Raven's POV

I and Newt were walking to the Homestead on our way to the gathering. When we arrived at the Homestead Newt opened a door. Newt pointed at a chair where I could sit down.

I looked around me and saw boys sitting. I guessed that those boys were the Keepers. I saw Newt and Alby, they were the leaders.

I thought I was in the room with ten other boys.

Alby cleared his throat and started asking questions, again.

'Do you remember your name now?' He asked me for the second time today.

I still didn't really wanna tell him, even though I told Newt. I didn't really like Alby, but maybe I just had to know him better. 'Raven.' I answered.

'Okay, we are having this gathering because we think it's strange that we have all boys and now a girl. All those other boys got out of the box awake. Raven was unconscious.' Alby said.

'I can't do anything about the fact that I was panicking.' I said a little upset.

'Just forget about the unconscious part, Alby. She can't do anything about that.' Newt said.

'Alright then. You don't remember anything else right, Raven?' Alby looked at me.

I nodded.

'We can't let her sleep with those boys around her.' Newt said.

'I agree.' A different voice said. I turned my head a little to see who was talking. It was a dark-skinned boy, wearing a white shirt, brown jeans, and an apron. He looked like a Cook.

'But where does she sleep then?' Another voice said.

'We could ask the builders to make her another room.' Newt replied. 'Do you think you'll be able to do that, Gally?' He looked at a boy with a brown shirt and dark blonde hair. I noticed his eyebrows, they were curved weirdly.

'Yeah, I think that we'll be able to make that.' He answered. 'But I don't think it'll be done today.'

'Alright, then she can sleep in the hospital room for a while. Is that okay with you, Clint?' Newt asked.

'Sure.'

'Raven, tomorrow you will start as a Slicer, Winston will help you.' He pointed at a boy.

When the gathering was over it was almost time for dinner. Newt told me that I could sit with him and a few others. We walked over to the kitchen. I saw the boy with the apron giving everyone food.
When we got our food I followed Newt to one of the picnic tables. I saw Alby and Minho sitting there too with two other boys.

'Hey, I'm Winston.' One of the boys greeted me. 'I'm the keeper of the Slicers and I will help you tomorrow.' I nodded.

'And this is Zart. He's the keeper of the Track-hoes.' Winston motioned to a blonde boy.

I sat down and started eating my food. It still felt a little weird to have all those boys around me, but I at least knew some of them now.

I thought about the moment when Newt told me I wasn't supposed to go into the maze. He still hadn't told me why.

'Why am I not supposed to go into the maze?' I asked.

The boys looked up at me with weird looks on their faces. They stared at me like I was crazy.

'Are you gonna answer me or what?' I asked them.

'It's dangerous.' Newt finally said.

'Why am I not allowed to go in there? I saw a few boys coming out of there earlier.'

'They are Runners, like me.' Minho said.

Newt didn't say that I got to try out that job. He didn't even mention one thing about it.

'Can I try that job too?' I simply asked.

Newt his eyes widened as if I said something really weird. 'No one wants to be a Runner.' He frowned.

' I want to.'

The boy with weird eyebrows walked towards us. 'Girls can't be a Runner. They are too weak.' He told me.

What? How dare he say that. I got mad at him.

'Oh, so that's the reason you aren't a runner.' I looked at him.

I heard someone next to me choke on their water. I think Newt just took a sip when I said that to the boy. He started coughing heavily.

'Gally, leave her alone.' Alby told the boy.

Why am I not allowed to go running? Was it the reason the boy, Gally, told me?

'Is that the real reason?' I looked at Minho.

'No. No one gets to try running as a job. But I guess if you want to I could give you the training to see if you could be one.' Minho answered.

'Yes, that would be great!' I was kind of excited even though they said it was dangerous. I still didn't know why.

'So since we have a new Greenie.' Newt looked at me. 'We are having a bonfire tonight.'

'Sounds great.' I replied.

After a while, I looked at all the boys around the bonfire. I was sitting next to Newt, on a bench. I saw lots of boys standing in a circle. I took a closer look and saw that the annoying boy from earlier, Gally, was fighting with another boy.

The boy he was fighting with gave Gally a hard push which made him fall.

'Woohoo!' I yelled at the boy since he put Gally in his place. I thought no one would really notice me saying anything but I was wrong. All the boys looked over at me.

'You think you can fight me?' Gally stood up.

I was gonna give it a try, because why not? I got off the bench and walked towards Gally.

'It's simple, you have to try to stay in the circle.' Gally told me. 'Try to last at least a second.'

I got ready and pushed Gally. It didn't seem to work. I tried again but failed. I have to try something else, I told myself. Gally ran towards me so instead of pushing him in moved to the side. I then stuck my leg out. This made Gally fall over and roll out of the circle.

He got up and quickly brushed the dirt off his shirt. 'You win, shank.' He said a little mad.

After a few hours, I decided to go to sleep. I told Newt and Alby and got to the Homestead.

I walked into the homestead and saw that no one else was there. They were all at the bonfire. I walked upstairs to the hospital room. I saw four doors. I knew exactly which one was the hospital room, but I was curious about the other rooms. I opened one of the doors and saw just a bed and a chair. It wasn't very special so I opened another door. The room looked the same as the other one.

Suddenly I heard a voice. It was a woman.

'Raven.'

That was the only thing I heard. I followed the sound and it lead to the door I hadn't opened yet. Before opening the door I put my ear against it to listen to the voice.

'I'm sick. I can't take care of you anymore. The government knows that I'm sick. They are gonna take you with them soon.'

Who is the woman talking? Is she talking to me? I quietly opened the door and saw nothing but darkness. I walked into the room.

Suddenly I felt like I was falling. I was falling into a deep black abyss. I tried to scream or say something but I couldn't.

Suddenly my feet touched the floor and I was standing in another room. It looked like a living room.

I didn't know if it was a dream or actually happening. Suddenly a woman and a little girl appeared. I guessed she was eight years old.

'Raven.'

I heard my name again. The woman bend down and looked at the little girl.

'Are you listening to me?'

The woman asked the girl.

'Raven.'

My name again.

'Raven!'

This wasn't the woman her voice anymore. It was a boy.

'Raven!' I heard again.

I opened my eyes. I felt a hard ground under me. I blinked a few times to get used to the light.

Newt was hanging above me with a worried look on his face.

I quickly got up. I looked around and saw that I was in a bathroom. A bathroom? How did I get here?

'Why the bloody hell are you laying on the bathroom floor?' Newt looked at me.

'I, uh.' I didn't know the answer. 'I don't know.'

I was confused. I walked out of the bathroom towards the hospital room not realizing I left Newt alone with a worried look on his face.

I was still thinking about the woman and the girl, which I guessed was me. I couldn't get it out of my head. I was in such deep thought I didn't even realize I got into the hospital bed with my normal clothes on.

I fell asleep immediately, not even noticing that someone lifted me.

A/n: chapter 3 already! This one was a little longer and maybe a little confusing but I hope you liked it.
