Chapter two
'You want us to go in there?' Newt said once the four of us got out of the car. It was in the middle of the day right now and we stood in front of a abandoned tunnel. I couldn't see what was in the tunnel, it was dark in there.
'I don't wanna come across as too negative, but if I was a Crank, that's exactly where I would be.' Newt added.
I felt a shiver going down my spine when Newt said Crank.
'I don't think we have much of a choice.' Thomas looked up from his map.
'All right. I get shotgun.' Newt walked back to the car and I followed him.
Once Frypan and Newt sat down in the front and me and Thomas in the backseat Frypan started driving.
'Well, here we go.' Frypan sighed when we entered the tunnel.
'Yeah. Right into the Cranks nest.' I said slightly afraid.
'Just take it nice and slow.' Newt shined his flashlight trough the tunnel with a frown on his face.
I saw abondoned cars everywhere in the tunnel.
'Whoa!' Thomas said and I turned my head. Frypan had stopped the car. In front of the car was standing a man. A Crank.
His clothes were ripped and he seemed to be inhuman. His eyes were black and hair was ripped out of his head, leaving red marks.
'Take it slow.' Newt quietly said.
Suddenly Thomas jumped closer to me what made me jump too.
'Jezus Christ, Thomas!' I sighed, but then I saw the reason he did that. A woman peeked trough the window. Her blonde her was messy and fuzzy and she had dark circles under her eyes.
'Please.' She said in a hurry. 'Please.' She started hitting the car. 'Help me. Please.' She sounded desperate, but I knew we couldn't help her. She was infected.
'Okay, Fry. We gotta go!' Thomas said.
'Please! Open the door!' The woman said again.
'You need to go right now, Frypan!' I said as I got further away from the woman.
Frypan started the car and drove towards the man that was still standing in front of the car.
The man jumped on top of the car and started smashing the front window. 'Just floor it, Fry!' Thomas yelled. Frypan started driving at a faster speed and he made some turns, trying to shake the Crank off.
'Floor it! Come on!' I said when the glass began to broke.
'Come on, Fry! Shake him off!' Newt said in a hurry.
'I'm trying!' Frypan started making sharper turns while we drove further into the dark tunnel.
'Go!' Thomas said when the Crank finally got off the car. Frypan made one last sharp turn.
'Oh, shit!' I shouted when the car fell down with us still in it. Glass broke and the car fell on its side. I felt a slight pain going through my shoulder, but nothing bad.
'Everyone okay?' Thomas coughed as dust flew around. I saw a blurred vision of Thomas getting out of the car, but with all the dust in my eyes I couldn't see very well.
'My hand.' Frypan murmured. 'My hand.'
'Fry, cover your eyes.' I heard another glass break.
'Come on, Raven.' Newt said and I started climbing trough the broken window of the car.
'You okay?' Thomas asked.
'Yeah.' I sighed.
I saw Newt hold his wrist for slight a second and then he quickly let go of it again.
Once we all got out and caught or breaths I heard a gagging noise. I turned around and saw a Crank standing there.
'I think we gotta move.' Thomas said as he took a few steps back. 'Now!'
'Wait a minute.' Frypan crawled into the car again.
'Fry, what are you doing?' I said as I looked at the Crank.
'Hold on!' Frypan shouted while still being in the car, that was upside down.
'Come on!' Newt said a the Crank got closer to us.
'Frypan, we gotta go!'
Frypan got out of the car with a gun in his hands. He pointed it at the Crank and pulled the trigger. The Crank fell down onto the ground.
'Nice shot, Fry.' I sighed in relief. Then I saw dozens of other Cranks coming our way. 'Okay, we gotta go!' I shouted and we started running.
'Go, go!'
Frypan started shooting at the Cranks.
'Frypan, come on. Let's go!' Thomas shouted.
'Whoa.' I immediately stopped running when I saw the other Cranks running towards us. Cranks got closer to us from both ways and we had nowhere to go.
'Fry, you got any left?' Thomas asked.
'Yeah.' Frypan started shooting again. I knew he would never have enough bullets to shoot all the Cranks, and that scared me. We had no way out and we didn't have a car.
More Cranks surrounded us. 'I'm out!' Frypan yelled in frustration.
'Shit!' I looked at all the Cranks. Suddenly I heard the motor of a vehicle and I turned around. A car drove trough the crowd of Cranks, making them fall on the ground.
'Hey, get in!' I saw Brenda appearing as she started shooting at the Cranks.
Thank god.
'Go, Jorge, go!' Brenda shouted once we all got in the car. Brenda and Jorge in the front and the other four of us in the back.
'I'm impressed.' Jorge started once we got out of the tunnel, daylight almost blinding me. 'You guys almost lasted a whole day.'
Brenda turned around and looked at us, clearly wanting an explanation.
'I'm sorry. I didn't wanna bring you guys into this.' Thomas looked at her.
'I think what he's trying to say is thanks for saving us.' Frypan said.
'You're welcome.' Brenda grinned and turned around again.
'That checkpoint back there, that was the city's last defense. If that was overrun, chances are the city is, too.' Jorge said as he focused on the empty road.
'Yeah, unless they figured out some other way to keep the Cranks out.' I saw Newt staring trough the window and I leaned in to take a peek too. Jorge stopped the car and we jumped out. There was a bit city with tall buildings.
A giant concrete wall was around the entire city, and it was really tall. No one could possibly get over those walls without any help.
'Funny... We spent three years trapped behind walls, trying to break out, and now we wanna break back in.' Newt stared at the city.
'Yeah. It's hilarious.' I said. An odd feeling washed over me when I saw the big walls.
'Jorge, how do we get in?' Thomas asked.
'Don't look at me, hermano. Those walls are new.
I guess that's WICKED's answer for everything.'
'Well, we ain't gonna figure it out from up here.' I sighed.
'You really think he's in there?' Newt asked Thomas.
'I guess we'll find out.'
'You know she's gonna be there too.' Newt looked at Thomas.
'Yeah, I know.' He looked down.
'Well, I don't want to see that traitor again. It's her fault Minho's in there.' I said mad.
'Let's just go.' We got back in the car again.
