The Doctor - in his tenth regeneration to be exact - was sitting in the control room of the T.A.R.D.I.S., slowly floating through time and space. For once, he didn't had to do anything and he didn't feel like it either. Feet on the desktop, book in his hands and just doing absolutely nothing. Except from reading and turning the pages, of course. He was reading A Song of Ice and Fire, wondering why there was so much fuss about it on Earth 2016, but he had to admit; he had a hard time with the first book. There were just so many characters! But he wouldn't give up, he had read more challenging books, he was sure about that.

He turned another page and till his relief, he saw the next chapter was about Daenerys. At least she was interesting.

But, the quietude didn't last long...

The lights of the TARDIS flickered and a bit confused, the Doctor looked up from the page, glancing at the lights above his head from over his glasses. He reached for the bookmark but then all the lights turned off. The red emergency lights turned on and started to flash in a fast tempo.

"No, no, no," he muttered. "Not now."

The alarm started to clang through the space and the Doctor fought the urge to clasp his hands over his ears. He jumped up from his chair and ran towards the monitor. The screen was filled with Gallifreyan writing and he pushed the glasses further upon his nose, reading as fast as he could but the writing continued to change. Now the screen even went black, then white, and then black again. Frustrated, he slammed on top of it with the flat of his hand.

"Work with me here, now..." The circular Gallifreyan writings appeared again and were reflected in his glasses. His eyes flew over the writings before they could disappear again. "Oh, that's bad," he said as he realised what it meant. "That's extremely very not good." The wheels in his head were spinning, but it didn't take him long to come to a conclusion. He had hoped for years it would never come to this, but he supposed it had been inevitable.

"We're going to need hunters... The best in the world." For a moment he stared at the time rotor, but then started to run around the console, flipping several switches. The time rotor started to move and the iconic sound of the TARDIS filled the whole room. The Doctor hold on to the console while the space ship was jumping through the Time Vortex, heading towards Lebanon, Kansas.

But he didn't know the Eleventh Doctor was also heading that way, because he knew what was going to happen and he could not let that happen again. That Doctor knew they were going to need the help of someone who was somewhere almost impossible to reach, but they would need him nonetheless. He just had to convince the Tenth Doctor and the hunters to go get him... Hopefully, they would listen to him.

Jamie awoke with a start when she almost thrown out of bed as the TARDIS suddenly started to move violently. She jumped out of bed and tried to reach the console room without being thrown at the walls because of the jolts. With difficulty, she reached the room and saw Rory and Amy were already there, gripping tight of the rails at the edge of thehexagonal platform.

"Couldn't you have woken me before you started to jump through time and space?!" Jamie squeaked as she tripped over her own feet when the TARDIS made a sudden movement. Rory walked towards her, still holding onto the rails, and helped her back on her feet.

"I don't know what's gotten into his mind," Rory said while eyeing the Doctor. "He just suddenly said it was time again and that we had to move."

Jamie observed the Doctor who was staring at the monitor by the console. "Where we going?" she asked him with a loud voice to make herself hearable above all the noise.

"Kansas," the Doctor replied with a just as loud voice.

"You mean America? But I thought today we would be going to New New New New New New New New," as Jamie was saying 'New' she was counting them on her fingers as well, and when she reached the fifteenth 'New' she stopped, "York?"

"Some other time, perhaps. This is more important. I have to fix something and this is the last time I can try." That last part he whispered to himself, he didn't want his companions to know he was in his last incarnation and he did like it to keep it that way. Actually, his companions didn't even know he was able to regenerate but that would change soon. It had never bothered him; that someday his regenerations would run out, but he had to fix this. He couldn't leave this life without trying to and today was his chance.

"All right, then. Kansas it is," Jamie grumbled. All three of them noticed there was something off about him, but they couldn't quite put their finger on it. Maybe it was because he was more serious than his usual self, but perhaps that would be the reason why they shouldn't argue with him and just roll along. But they all silently agreed they were going to ask him about it, as soon as possible. Because this, this was not like him and it worried them till the bone.
