βΒ° α ΰΌ UNTIL THERE WAS TROUBLE
chapter nineteen. ghosts.
Sam twists and turns on the couch, due to having a nightmare. Jay walks into the living room and nudges for her to wake up and says, "Sam...Sam, wake up"
Sam suddenly wakes up and says, "What's going on?"
"Looked like you were having a nightmare. Everything okay?"
Sam sits up on the couch and says, "Yeah. Everything's fine" then she walks into the kitchen to grab herself some coffee.

"Alright, three White males approach" Adam says, pointing to the computer, as Sam, Hank, Kevin and Hailey huddle around his desk to look at the surveillance footage of the meet that was supposed to go down, but instead ended up with two shooting victims, "close quarter shootout. Garcia gets hit, but he gets a few shots off"
"Hits my boy Scott Jansen" Hailey says, referring to someone she knew while working undercover.
"And offender one leaves in the van. Offender two leaves in the sedan"
"And they leave Jansen to die"
"Right. Do you recognize offender one or two?" Voight asks Hailey.
"No, I've never seen them before. They weren't part of Booths old crew"
"We didn't get any hits on facial rec" Sam says.
"Anything on the vehicles?" Hank asks.
"The sedan has no plates. Van had tags, but it registered to a bogus address in Texas, so I got a BOLO out on make and model" Adam answers.
"Alright, we got a rip crew who knew about a van with liquid meth, and they knew when and where the deal was going down."
"My money's on Booth. He likes doing rips. 'Better margins when the products free'. He used to say that all the time." Hailey says.
"Alright, give it a shot. But let's not spook this guy. You tell the press the homicide was a road rage incident."
"Copy that" Adam says.
"Get eyes on Booth right away"
~~~
"So you want to dust off your old cover?" Hank asks, as he, Jay, Sam and Hailey walk down the hall at the district back to the unit, looking at files.
"Best way to chase this, Sarg" Hailey says.
"You never testified?" Sam asks.
"No, we had enough to prosecute without me needing to blow my cover."
"And you're sure this Kelly character is alive and well in Booth's universe?" Hank questions.
"As far as Booth knows, Kelly got scared when the cops busted him and scurried back home to Iowa"
"What about this Garrett Thompson? Copper out of Rosemont you were partnered with" Hank asks, making the group stop.
"What about him?"
"Says here you went under as his girlfriend."
"Correct. He got killed during that operation."
"There's a note in the GPR that says rumors were going around that Garrett flipped and he moved to Mexico?" Jay says.
"He was good police. Booth murdered him"
"What happened?" Sam asks.
"They never found his body, so we couldn't make a case, but it was Booth. He never liked Garret then one day, Garrett was gone. Look once Booth turns the liquid meth into crystal, he's gonna have a lot of product to move. If I get in, I pitch Jay as a potential buyer, and we bust his ass." Hailey says.
"Alright, let's do it. But listen...I want you going under to bust a drug dealer, not get revenge in Garrett's murder" Hank says.
"Understood"
"Good. Get apartments set up. You still backstopped?"
"Drivers license, family photos, you name it. Kelly's good to go"
"Alright" Hank says, before walking away.
As the funeral continues, for Scott Jansen, Jay and Sam sit in their vehicle, a distance away, running plates of the people that show up.
"William, one, Sam, six, three, one, five" Jay says, looking through the scope, watching a guy jump out of the car and race to the funeral.
"Got a hit" Sam says, after typing in the license plate into the tablet, "car belongs to Tyler Whitlock, 19. Two stints in juvie, recent bust for possession, and he's Booth's nephew"
"Family business. How quaint"
After listening to Hailey and Booths conversation, they got nothing. Sam sighs, leaning her head back on the head rest.
πππ
"Still no luck with Booth. Hailey thought that he bit, but so far, radio silence" Jay explains to Voight.
"We got nothing on the drug rip, either" Adam says, sitting on his desk, "there's no chatter on the streets. No intel from Narcotics or gangs"
"You guys are lucky I work here" Antonio says, looking at the whiteboard.
"You got something?" Hank asks.
"Yeah. I think my unwitting, Perez, was in on the rip"
"What do you mean?"
"I ran his vehicle through NVLS. Turns out his car was parked outside Booths paint warehouse three different times in the last week. Pretty sure they weren't talking about color palettes."
"So you think Perez and Booth planned the rip together?" Brayden asks, folding his arms over his chest.
"He's knows lots of dealers. Be perfect for Booth"
"So Booth steals the product, cooks it, hands it over to Perez to sell? I mean, that's a match made in heaven" Sam says.
"Yeah, but the problem is, if Perez is the distributor, we got no angle to play. Hailey pitching Jay as a buyer doesn't mean anything." Voight says.
"We gotta do something about Perez" Antonio states.Β
"I've been having nightmares...since my accident. I've barely been sleeping" Sam says, picking away at the threads on the white pillow, at her therapists office.
"About what?"
"About Justin, my mom and my friend Emma"Β Sam admits.
"Do you remember what these nightmares are about?"
"Kinda. I mean, I'm watching them get killed. And the second I see the light go out of their eyes, I wake up"
"Are you taking the Medicine I prescribed you to help you sleep?"
"I am, but it obviously doesn't help"
Dr Roma writes something down on her notepad and says, "Can you tell me anything else about these nightmares?"
Sam looks at Dr Roma and sighs.
Sam is sitting at the bar at Molly's, taking another shot, wiping away her tears when Hermann walks over to her and says, "You okay, kid?"
"Huh? Yeah, I'm good. Just tired"
"You know being tired and drinking alcohol don't exactly go together"
Sam looks up at the firefighter and says, "What are you, my therapist or the bartender?"
Hermann chuckles and says, "You're cut off, detective"
"Happy hour, more like crappy hour" Sam scoffs, getting up from her seat, and walks towards the front door when she bumps into somebody.
"Whoa, Sam. You okay?" The voice asks. Sam looks up at the male figure in front of her and says, "I-I'm good"
"You don't sound to good"
"Like a wise man once said, 'Being tired and drinking alcohol don't exactly go together'"
"Let me help you get home" Connor says, putting Sam's arm around his neck so he can help guide her to his car.
"Tha-thanksss, doctor" Sam slurs, "you're the best"
πππ
The next day, Sam pops a couple aspirin and takes a big gulp of her water as she walks into the roll up and sees Jay and Hailey and says, "Hey, Voight says you guys are headed out to do a meet with Booth"
"Yeah" Jay says. The brunette turns to the blonde and says, "Hailey, you mind giving us a minute"
"Yeah, sure" Hailey says, walking outside to the undercover car.
"What's up?" Jay asks.
"You'll be okay, right?"
"Yeah, of course"
Sam grabs a hold of her husband's hand and says, "Booth is dangerous. Please, just make it back in one piece, or I'll have to kill you myself"
"Always" Jay says, kissing his wife's forehead, then leaves to find Hailey at the car.
"You guys doing okay?" The blonde asks. Jay shrugs and says, "We're slowly working through it"
"Good"
~~~
"I think he's got a thing for her" Jay says, as he sits in front of Hanks desk, with Hailey beside him and Sam behind Voight, "like he's obsessed. He asked me if I slept with her" then he looks at Sam and mouths, 'I didn't'.
Sam nods and mouths, 'I know'.
"We can use that to our advantage. Play him a little bit, get the deal back on track" Hailey says.
"Play him? What are you talking about?" Jay asks.
"He's vulnerable. He needs buyers. We can exploit that"
"No. No. Enough is enough" Hank says, "We know what this guy is capable of. Look, Kelly is moving back to Iowa, end of story"
"Boss, I think you should reconsider, because..."
Hank interrupts the blonde and says, "Hailey. It's over. Now shut down that UC apartment tonight."
Hailey nods her head and leaves the office. Hank looks at Sam who sighs.
"You mind if I take a couple for a personal? I haven't been sleeping much" Sam asks her Sergeant.
"Yeah"
Sam gets up from leaning on the desk and puts her hand on Jays shoulder and says, "be careful please" then leaves the office.
πππ
"Hey" Sam says, walking into the living room to see her husband sitting on the couch, with a sleeping Gracie in his arms, "how's Hailey doing?"
"She puts on a tough act, but I can see that she's struggling"
"Well, if anyone can get through to her" Sam says, putting her hand on her husband's shoulder, "it's you"
"Yeah" Jay says, then clears his throat, "I was thinking that maybe, when I put Gracie to bed, we can sit and just talk"
"I think that sounds like a great idea" Sam says, then stands up, "I'll meet you in our room" then she walks to the staircase.
Jay smiles to himself and kisses his daughters head and whispers, "mommy and I will be back together in no time, I promise princess"
a/n;
P.S, Jay and Sam talk all night...about everything.
Also, I lied about how many chapters there are gonna be.
So there will be 4 more chapters left, instead of 5! π€
