Jay walks into his daughter's room to see her quickly pull the covers over herself and says, "hmm, I wonder where Gracie went?"

Giggles were heard from underneath the purple and pink comforter and Jay slowly walks over to the toddlers bed and sits down and says, "I can't seem to find her. I guess she won't be able to have the chocolate chip pancakes mommy made for her"

Gracie pulls the covers back from over her head and laughs, "Daddy, I'm right here"

"There you are princess" Jay smiles, then starts to tickle her.

"Daddy! Stop it, I'm ticklish there!"

Jay stops then says, "you want some pancakes sweetheart?"

Gracie excitingly nods her head and gets out of her bed and grabs her father's hand and they head towards the kitchen.

"The whole thing is a mess, Sarg" Jay explains to Hank as he, Sam and Hailey walk towards the crime scene that Atwater and Rojas responded to, "We're basically looking at three crime scenes. It started back there on Washburn with a carjacking that Atwater and Rojas responded to"

"Two offenders fled and crashed into that car" Sam says, pointing to the car they had just passed and placing her right hand on her growing stomach, "then one offender took off in the car, the other one Rojas chased down and he was impaled by rebar"

"So that's our DOA" Hank says.

"Yeah"

"Carjacking victim?"

"Yeah, she's a young woman. She was beaten pretty bad. She's on her way to med" Hailey says.

"Listen, did the responding backup units pick up anything cause I was on the zone and I didn't hear any chatter"

"That's the thing, Sarg. They didn't call for backup." Jay says, making them all stop in place.

"Huh. Alright, do me a favor. You and Sam. Tie this thing off for me"

Jay and Sam nod their heads and head back towards the second crime scene.

Kim wipes away Antonio's name from the chalkboard that holds everyone's radio calls on it (for example; if Sam were to call for backup she'd say '5021 Kennedy ')

Adam walks down the hall passed interrogation and onto the bullpen seeing Kim do this and asks, "whatcha doing?"

"I'm updating the board. Voights orders"

Adam groans and says, "boss?"

"Huh?" Hank says, standing next to the whiteboard.

"This is for real? Antonio's moving to Puerto Rico for sure?"

"It's what he wants. He's got family there. Look, end of the day, it's probably a good decision." Hank says as Vanessa Rojas walks onto the unit and everyone turns to look at her, "you all know officer Rojas. Welcome to intelligence"

"Thank you" Vanessa smiles, "okay, I hope this isn't the part where I have to make a speech."

"Nothing like that" Hank says and Vanessa walks over to the group, who are gathered around Hank at the board, while Sam sits at her desk with her feet up, "okay, what do we got?"

"Straight up aggravated carjacking. The victims name is Ruby Garcia" Burgess says, taping her picture onto the board, "she's 24. She's at Chicago med with head trauma. We lodged a BOLO on her stolen car, nothing yet"

Hailey hands Kim a picture of the deceased male who was impaled to put on the board and says, "We ran prints on our DOA John Doe. He's not in our system. No wallet or ID"

"Alright, that means we gotta ID his partner, so talk to your CIs. Let's get a list of everyone previously arrested for carjacking in that area. Kev, reach out to major accidents, start the paper"

"Yes, sir" Kevin says, wheeling the whiteboard away.

Brayden scratches at the back of his neck and says, "We've been chasing a major cartel supplier and we're dropping that for a carjacking?"

"The offender died while we were chasing him, so we own it" Hank explains, "let's just tie it off cleanly and quickly and move on"

"Sergeant?" Vanessa says, making Hank turn towards the new officer, "what would you like for me to do?"

"I want you to head to med and get a victim statement from this Ruby. And ride with Upton. You two are going to be partnering together. Jay, you'll ride with Kim" Hank says and walks into his office followed by Hailey.

Sam watches this happen and as she was about to get up to talk to her husband, Brayden walks over to sit on the edge of her desk and says, "Remind you of anybody?"

Sam chuckles and says, "Yeah. Hailey is me, two years ago, when Voight told me we were partnering up"

"And look at us now"

Hank and Sam follow Adam down to the roll up where Kevin is currently sitting in the tech room and says, "According to our victim, Ruby, she saw the offenders running from the street behind her. Now assuming these geniuses didn't drive their own car to a carjacking we checked the nearest L"

"Right, and that takes you to the Pink line, which is three blocks south" Kevin says, as the three now stand behind him as he's currently watching the POD footage, "this is ten minutes before the jacking, Sarg" then he pauses the video and gets a close up on the guy, "that's our John Doe right there during happier times...before he was impaled. That's karma for you"

"You run facial rec on the partner?" Sam questions.

"Already on it" Kevin says, pulling up his sheet, "Felix Rodriguez. 19 with a juvie rap. Lives in englewood with his mama"

"Drag his ass in" Hank says.

"Hey Sarg" Kevin says, as he and Adam walk into the once empty room that got turned into another meeting room where the team is minus Jay and Kim.

"So, turns out Ruby's car was fitting with a high end fireproof drug trap" Adam says, taping a picture of the burned car to the whiteboard, "which is lucky for us because it preserved the drug residue inside, which the field test confirmed was heroin"

"So this wasn't a carjacking, is was a drop rip" Sam states.

"Exactly. The lab told us the fingerprint found inside this trap is definitely Ruby Garcia's" Kevin says.

"Okay, which means Ruby wasn't some innocent girl who got her car jacked. She's a drug runner" Rojas says.

"Have Jay and Kim scoop her up" Hank says, leaving the room.

"Copy that" Kevin says as he and Adam leave behind him, as Sam lifts her feet up on the desk and places both her hands on her stomach.

"Do you know what the twins are yet?" Hailey questions. Sam sighs and says, "Not yet. Not for another couple weeks"

"Congratulations" Vanessa smiles.

"Thanks Rojas"

"These your first?"

Sam, Hailey and Brayden all look at each other and laugh while Vanessa looks confused and says, "What?"

"COD?" Hank questions as he and Sam arrive at the crime scene where Ruby was killed.

"Deep puncture wounds to the chest. M.E. says it looks like a serrated blade. No evidence of robbery, sexual assault, struggle. It was a purposeful, quiet kill" Kim explains as they walk over to the body where Kevin was searching her. Adam walks up the small steps to the group and says, "only the one witness so far. Neighbor who discovered Ruby's body says he saw someone running away"

"Give a description of the offender?" Hank asks.

"It was too far away. Just a guy in a hoodie." Kevin says.

"Alright, we'll talk to the roommate and search the apartment. Meanwhile, I want you guys to keep working the area. Surveillance cameras, suspicious persons reports...and let's find this prick who killed this girl" Hank says, kneeling next to the body.

Before Sam and Brayden go to talk with the roommate, Jay pulls his wife aside and says, "Baby, you sure you're okay to be here right now?"

Sam gives her husband a reassuring smile and says, "I'm fine, Jay. Promise" then she takes his hand and places it on her belly, "we're fine"

"It's horrible. I just can't believe it" Ruby's roommate, Karla Moore says as she enters Ruby's room followed by Sam and Brayden, "this is Ruby's Room. Was...oh, my god"

"How long have you lived with Ruby?" Brayden asks.

"Um...we've been roommates for about a year"

"And no one came to the door? You didn't see her leave with anyone?"

"Uh, I haven't seen her since yesterday"

"She involved with anyone? A boyfriend or a guy you saw her with?" Sam asks.

"No...no, she didn't have a boyfriend."

"Anyone shady in her life? Someone that could've threatened her?"

"Not that I know of"

"How'd you meet ruby?" Brayden asks.

"At Pescado. She worked there. We just kind of hit it off. We talked about how we wanted to live in Lincoln park, but it was way too expensive, so, um...we out all of our money together and we moved in here. We were living the life. That's what we would always say..."

"We ran Ruby Garcia" Burgess says, pointing to her mugshot, she had just taped onto the board next to her other picture, "she's got two priors. One was coke, one was selling joints to an undercover when she was 16. She spent time in juvie."

"What else?" Hank asks.

"Um, okay..." the officer says, opening a file, "no biological family, given up for adoption, grew up in foster care. It looks like she had a hard life."

"And a short one" Rojas adds.

"M.E.'s confirmed that Ruby was stabbed with a serrated knife" Hailey says, walking over to the board and taping up her autopsy photo, "they also found this on her toso"

"That's a brand. Looks like the letter, 'F'" Kevin says.

"Hmm. Alright, run this through the detective bureau, see if they've come across anything similar." Hank says. Adam walks onto the bullpen and says, "Well, I spoke with the crime lab. Hailey" then he passes the blonde a map to put on the board, "they, uh, pulled the data from Ruby's GPS. Mostly non descript, or all driving around the city stuff, but there's one outlier, this neighborhood in the wild 100s. She went there four times in the last month, including right before she got jacked"

"Well that's gotta be where the weight is kept. She was picking up dope from a source." Jay says.

"Right, so dig in, go to your CI's. Find out who's moving heroin in that area and find out who Ruby was working for, cause right now he's looking good for her murder" Hank says walking to his office.

After doing a bust, which Sam had to stay behind on, the brunette leans against the cement walls of interrogation when Hank says, "12 kilos of heroin, Jose. That's super class x felony, bro. It's game over"

"Then why are we talking?" Jose Soto questions.

"We need you to help us clear up the murder of Ruby Garcia, who was stabbed to death last night" Sam says.

"What's in it for me?"

"For you? Nothing" Hank states, "there may be something in it for your kid brother, Frank, though" then he leans his hands on the metal table as Jose's smartass facial expression drops to concern, "yeah, we rolled him up, too"

"Come on, man. My brother ain't got nothing to do with it"

"Boy was he in the wrong place at the wrong time."

Jose lightly scoffs and says, "I'll tell you what you need to know...you don't squeeze my kid brother"

"Start talking"

"I didn't kill her. I didn't even know her"

"She was at your bar" Sam exclaims, "she had your heroin in her vehicle. She lost your drugs"

"Wasn't my drugs anymore. Deal was done. I got my end. She was a mule for the buyer."

"So, who was the buyer?" Hank asks.

"Never met him"

"You never met him?"

"We only do business by text"

Hank and Sam look at each other and the Sergeant says, "so you're saying you know nothing about the buyer?"

"I know his money's green and he always sends girls to pick up the product"

"So you hired the bangers to jack the car? And who's gonna suspect the guy who sold the drugs to steal the drugs" Sam says.

"They made it too easy. Sending cute girls to pick up drugs? What was I supposed to do? But I didn't kill nobody"

"You got an alibi for 6 o'clock last night?" Hank asks.

"I was at Franks soccer game. He lost"

Sam walks out of the bathroom meeting up with Adam down the hall who says, "I'm sorry"

"You've said that like a thousand times in the last week"

"I know and I want you to know I never meant for her to see it happen"

"I know" Sam says, making the two stop, "but she's very impressionable. You got to remember that"

"You're right. Oh god, maybe I'm not the right person to be a godfather"

"Adam Bob Ruzek. Listen to me, you'll be great. Just take a deep breath, it's a learn as you go kind of thing"

Adam takes a deep breath and says, "You're right. Now on the subject of names. if it's a boy, I nominate the name Adam"

"Oh god, not you too" she laughs, walking away, leaving behind a confused officer.

"The burner used to do the drug buys was purchased by Alexa Rivers, 42" Jay says, taping her picture onto the board, "she's not on DEA's or Narcotics radar. Based on the amount of heroin we think she bought from Soto, she should be"

"Before she started the restaurant, Alexa was a social worker. She taught a vocational training course for at risk youth. Ruby was one of her students." Kim explains.

"She's got two priors. One for possession, one for agg-battery. She broke the eye socket of her live in girlfriend"

"Jeez" Kevin says.

"So, what are we waiting for? Let's bust her" Rojas says.

"Alright, based on what?" Hank asks.

"Ruby was running drugs for Alexa, who has a history of violence, so when Ruby lost her load, it makes sense she killed her. Street justice."

"Well, that's a very good theory, but so far we got no evidence Alexa murdered Ruby. What we do know is Alexas in the drug trade. So let's catch her dirty. We'll take her off the street, then build a murder case"

"She might not be holding being her supply just got ripped" Adam says.

"Right, there's an opening which means she's looking for product. I say we lay somebody under with the bait, Sarg. See if she bites" Kevin says.

"Hmm" Hank hums.

"What the hell happened?" Hank asks Adam and Vanessa, leaving his office as the two officers walk onto the bullpen, after trying to do a deal with Alexa.

"I mean, we laid the bait she just wasn't gonna bite" Adam says. Kevin walks over to Sam and hands her a bag of chips, a candy bar and a water he got from the vending machine for her who says, "thanks Kev" giving him a fist bump.

Kevin smiles and says, "I got you girl"

"Vanessa, I was clear, you were supposed to follow Adams lead. Why'd you go off book?" Hailey asks.

"Because it wasn't gonna work" Rojas states.

"How do you know that?" Jay asks.

"I know Alexas type. She's only got woman around. Vulnerable ones. Ones who need her. She wasn't gonna talk to this guy"

"Sarg, me and Burgess sat on Soto the whole time. Alexa never called him" Kevin says.

"Yeah, for some reason, she got cold feet" Kim says, "Rojas is right. She wasn't gonna do the deal"

"Hey, tell them your idea" Adam says to Vanessa.

"Sergeant, I know how to get to her"

While Vanessa goes back undercover to try and make a deal with Alexa. Sam heads home for the night.

While Sam gets Gracie ready for bed, Denise walks into the toddlers room and says, "Kelly is downstairs"

"Alright, thanks Dee" Sam says. Gracie then takes off running and once she gets to the staircase she sits on her butt and slides down the stairs then runs over to her god father Kelly, who picks her up and kisses her cheek and says, "Hey Ace"

Sam walks down the stairs and smiles saying, "Hey Kells. Thanks for coming so quick"

"Of course. What's up?" Kelly says, as they walk into the living room to sit on the couch.

"So last week, when Jay and I went to the doctors to check on the baby, we found a surprise"

"What?"

"I'm having twins" Sam smiles, as Gracie holds up two fingers. Kelly's face turns into shock then smiles, "wait, twins. As in two babies" Sam nods her head as Kelly brings her into a hug, squishing Gracie in the process, "I can't believe this. This is insane. Twins don't run in either of your families" and as they depart the hug, Gracie moves the hair from her face and gives her uncle and mother the stink face, "Sorry Ace"

"I can't believe it either. Jay asks me everyday if he's seeing double and needs glasses"

"I'm so happy for you, Sammy"

"Thanks Kells"

"So, five kids huh?"

Sam sighs and says, "don't remind me"

"And I know how much you hate minivans, so, are you guys keeping the jeeps?"

"I mean, we're gonna have to. We don't have enough money right now for a new car. But we'll figure it once these munchkins get here" Sam smiles.

Kelly points to his goddaughter and says, "What is this one gonna think when they get here?"

"That she's not getting enough attention. She has you, Jay, Adam and pretty much everyone wrapped around her tiny finger" Sam smiles, tickling her daughters tummy, "huh pumpkin. Which she's really good at by the way. It's gonna be painful for the first few months. I know that for sure"

"Mommy, can I have snack?" Gracie says, standing up from Kelly's lap and leaning on the couch cushions.

"It's almost 8, sweetheart. You should be in bed"

"Pwease, mommyyy" Gracie begs. Sam sighs and says, "You can have one cookie. That's it"

Gracie smiles and slides off the couch, grabbing Sam's hand and guides them to the kitchen. Sam turns to Kelly and says, "See what I mean? Wrapped around her tiny finger"

After finally putting Gracie to bed, which felt like forever. Sam sits on her bed, putting lotion on her legs as best she could when Jay walks in.

"Hey baby. How was the rest of the case? You get Alexa?"

Jay sighs, taking off his badge and gun putting it in the safe under the bed and says, "we had her. Then Karla Moore, Ruby's roommate, stabbed her in the heart"

"Huh. Well, how the turntables..."

Jay chuckles and says, "You gotta stop watching the office so much"

Sam fake gasps and says, "what, never!"

Jay smiles taking his shirt off, going to throw it in the laundry basket but misses and says, "I'll, uh, just get that later" making Sam rolls her eyes, "how did Kelly take the news?"

"Good. He's really happy for us"

Jay then unbuttons his jeans, sliding them off, tossing them over to the laundry basket and making it this time, then gets into bed, placing his hand on his wife's stomach and says, "hey munchkins. It's your daddy. I just wanted to say I love you two and I'm so excited for you to be here. Four more months"

Sam smiles, combing her fingers through her husbands hair and says, "what do you think the genders are?"

Jay looks up at his wife's beautiful brown eyes and says, "both boys. You?"

"Girls"

"Oh, god. Please no"

Sam lightly slaps Jays arm and says, "Jay Ryan Halstead"

"I mean, I'll be happy with whatever but it's only me and Wyatt. And you, Gracie and Denise overpower us as it is" Jay jokes making them both laugh.

"As long as they're healthy"

I really enjoyed writing this chapter! I think it's because I put several fluff moments in it 🥰
Also, the next 2-3 chapters is the One Chicago Infection crossover, so be ready for that! 🤭
Also, what do we think the genders are gonna be? I want everyone to guess! And they'll be revealed after the infection crossover!
