Chapter Two

~

The sound of an automobile coming towards us caused the five of us to snap out of our daze and dash off the platform.

But instead of stopping the automobile beeped and kept driving.

We stood there unsure of what to do, "The professor knew we were coming right?" Susan asked.

I was about to suggest we walk when a horse drawn carriage came into view.

"Great." I sighed not looking forward to the ride.

The carriage stopped in front of us and the old woman who seemed to have the permanent expression of experiencing a bad smell etched on her face eyed us up and down.

"I was told there were four children." She said.

"Yes well-" I started but she waved a hand cutting me off.

"Never mind that for now. Is this all you've brought?" She asked motioning to our limited amount of bags.

    "Its just us." Peter said.

The woman crinkled her nose. "Small favors." I had to close my eyes to hide my eye roll.

"Well hop in." She said tilting her head to the small carriage behind the horse. It would be a tight fit.

I ended up being smushed in between Edmund and Susan. Edmund threw a fit about be place next to me so in return I made sure to give him a face full of my hair.

"Et ur air ow I ace r I'll ush ou ow!" He muttered through my brown hair.

"What was that Edmund? Might you speak up I'm having trouble understanding you?" I said with a smirk causing Lucy to giggle.

When we reached the house grounds I about fell out of the carriage without Edmunds assistance. It was practically a castle!

The look of shock and excitement was visible on everyone's face, except for Edmund of course.

The woman parked the carriage and led us through the giant house doors.

"The Professor is not accustomed to having children around, so there will be some house rules." She said walking up the stairs.

I zoned out while she talked about what not to do knowing fully well that I would do it. Instead I admired the front space. It seemed cozy with a big fireplace, big windows, and comfy arm chairs.

"NO touchin of the historical artifacts!" She exclaimed to poor Susan who had her arm outstretched to a marble statue.

Edmund and Peter snickered while Susan pulled her hand away looking guilty.

We followed the woman as she led us down a long hallway to our rooms.

"Boys n girls will sleep separate. This is the girls room." She said leading us into a big room with three twin sized beds.

"Thank god I don't have to share with you." Edmund muttered to me.

"Its ok to be disappointed Eddie." I shot back sarcastically. We both huffed at each other and went separate ways. Him to his room, me to mine.

Why did he have to be so insufferable?

~

When nightfall came I found myself exhausted. Today had not gone how I expected. But tomorrow I would tell the Professor my problem and be on my merry way to my correct placement.

I was washing my face in the bathroom when I heard a knock on the door. I sighed and dried my face before opening it up.

"Hurry up, some of us have actual important things to do in there." Edmund complained.

"Like what, clog up the toilet?" I asked.

He stood agape, "y- you're the one clogging the toilet!"

"Nice one." I smiled shutting the door in his face. Truth be told I was finished, but like I said, I was a pusher.

When I eventually made my way back to the girls room I saw all the siblings huddled around Lucy who was softly crying. Upon seeing me she hastily wiped her eyes, I sent her a small smile.

"C'mon Lu, you've seen this place! Its massive! We can do what ever we want here." Peter tried to reassure the girl.

    "Are you sure?" Lucy sniffed.

    "Positive." Peter smiled.

After that the boys left to their own rooms and the girls climbed into their beds. It was pitch dark except for the candle by Lucys head. The only sounds were our breathing and the occasional sheet shifting.

No matter how hard I tried I couldn't seem to fall asleep.

"Charlie?" I heard Lucy call in a hushed voice.

"Yes?" I whispered back trying not to wake Susan.

"Will you tell me a story?" She asked shyly.

I paused getting intense deja vu of when I used to ask my Grandma to tell me stories. I nearly choked up.

    "Of course." I answered.

Lucy shifted in her bed so she was facing me. "Once upon a time there were two children, Mary and Jeffery." I started reciting the story my Grandmother had told me countless times.

"They met while playing in a garden between houses. So looking for adventure they agree to go play in Jefferys Grandfathers attic, but instead end up in Uncle Andrews study."

"Uncle Andrew tricked Mary into taking a yellow ring that caused her to disappear. After she was gone Uncle Andrew told Jeffery that he had been experimenting with magic as he was a magician, and that the only way he could get Mary back was if he went to her. So Jeffery agreed and took a yellow ring as well as two green rings which would allow them to return."

I knew I had Lucys attention now. "When Jeffery found Mary she was standing in the center of doorways to different universes. Mary and Jeffery agree to explore before going home so they jump into one of the doors ways landing in an ancient world called Charn. After they explore the city of Charn they find four statues of Charns old Kings and Queens of Fair, Wise, Unhappy, and Cruel."

"In the middle of the statues there is a bell instructing the reader to hit it. So despite Marys pleads Jeffery rings the bell awakening the Queen of Cruelty. Mary and Jeffery try to run from the queen but she follows them back to England."

Lucy let out a small gasp. "However in England The evil Queen finds that her powers do not work, though she is very strong. She decides she wants to rule over earth and enslaves Uncle Andrew. With his help she robs a jewelry store causing the police the chase after them. But the cab they stole crashes next to a street lamp."

"In an attempt to fight off the police and on looking crowd the Queen rips the lamp post from the ground and threatens everyone with it. But when she wasn't looking Mary and Jeffery snuck up behind her and grabbed her, using their rings to send her back to the portals between realms, along with Uncle Andrew and his horse."

"While surrounded by the pools to other universes the horse tries to drink out of one of them, sending everyone into that world. Jeffery thinks its Charn, but it is actually a uncreated world. A dark void. But not for long, because then a powerful golden glow starts to sing, creating life in the world. The glow named it Narnia, and it would be the most peaceful land to ever exist. Everyone was mesmerized except the Cruel Queen, so she tries to kill him with the street lamp but it bounces harmlessly off him, implanting its self into the fresh soil, permanently standing tall in the new world."

I paused. There was more to the story, as I had heard it thousands of times, but Lucy had fallen asleep.

I smiled to myself as I shut my eyes and fell into a deep sleep.
