<CHLOE BABAJIDE>
It was complicated. Really, it was. Right now, I was sitting next to Jayson, and for some reason, he was more focused on his phone than on me.
We hadn't had a proper date in forever, and now that we were actually on a date, we were both ignoring each other and pressing our phones. "Tsk, tsk, tsk," I said, and he spared a glance at me, only to discover I had put my phone aside.
I raised an eyebrow at him, and he got the message, keeping his phone aside, folding his arms, and looking at me. "Fine, what did you want to talk about?" I looked him dead in the eyes and said, "Let's break up." He looked at me, then smiled before chuckling, but my face was emotionless. Then he stopped and said, "Are you being serious right now?"
"Dude, do I look like I'm joking?" He raised his brow as I crossed my legs and folded my arms. We were in one of the fancy restaurants outside school, having lunch, but the lunch wasn't going right."You're embarrassing yourself, you know that, right? I came here on your request to patch things up," he said. I chuckled as I said, "Patch things up? Really? Jayson, you're draining me—""The fuck is all that about draining! You're the one who's draining me! Always overreacting, throwing tantrums at every slight chance." He yelled at me, and I wasn't going to have this with him.
"Oh, wow! And you think you don't throw tantrums either? Dude, you always gaslight me into thinking I'm the bad guy in this relationship, all because I ask for a little attention." I yelled back, and he slammed his fist on the table. That made my heart jump, and I immediately regretted it.
"Are you saying I'm being toxic to you right now? Because if that's what you're saying, then this is just fucking twisted." He said, stood up, and took his leave while I was left there staring in shock.
"Ma'am, here is your bill," the waiter said. I saw the sum of 10,000 Naira and hissed, telling him to hold on and bring me a bottle of wine. Yes, Jayson might not be worth it after all, but for the stupid decision of choosing to love and date him, I needed as much alcohol as I could get.
I was on my merry way, getting drunk and wasted, when someone grabbed the bottle out of my hands, saying, "That's enough. You shouldn't be getting wasted over a guy who doesn't give two shots about you." I turned to look at the person who spoke, saying sluggishly, "Hhhhoooowww dddarreee youuu! Do you, meee, Presidents ddddaaaugghter. Fuck youuu bissh" and soon after, I passed out. But before I blanked out completely, I heard him say, "I still can't believe this is the same girl who used her spite to ruin my favorite shirt."
How I got home that night is a mystery to me.
Zoe's POV
I woke up with a loud yawn and stretched on the bed. My daughter was close beside me. I smiled at the sight of her; she was the cutest thing I had ever seen, and I was more than proud to be her mom. I picked up my phone on my bedside table, yawning again.
Damn, it feels so good to not have any exams to deal with. No tests, no exams, no classes. Yes, we are officially on break; I finally have some alone time to relate with my daughter. Maybe we would do Netflix and chill, depending on the weather; if not, we would most likely head out.I picked up my phone and began scrolling through the internet.
After a while, I felt someone snuggling close to me. For a moment, I was terrified, thinking that what I was watching in a meme video was clinging onto me. I looked at her side, and my daughter was smiling. "Good morning, mummy. Feeling good; we both don't have school today." And I smiled, ruffling her hair.
She was on holiday as well, and I was more than happy that we were finally going to have our time together. "Good morning, nunu. Did you sleep well?" I asked. And she frowned, saying, "Mom, why do you keep calling me that? I told you I've outgrown that name." And I laughed. "Not in my eyes, you haven't."
And she just grumbled beside me, and I laughed. Not long after, my phone began ringing, and I picked it up without looking at it. "Well, if it isn't my beautiful ray of sunshine. Good morning, Zoe bear." I grinned, realizing it was Joel.
"Good morning, Joel boo. How was your night?" I asked, blushing like a finished girl, and we talked for what seemed like forever. That was until Serenity started grumbling in my ears that she was hungry, and it was only 9 am. I rolled my eyes at that when Joel said, "Is that my baby girl talking? Give the phone to her." I just chuckled and said, "Oya, nunu, calm down and talk to daddy." I said, and she said "yay" in response.
I chuckled, smiling at their relationship. It's baffling how Joel was able to honestly love my daughter like she was his own. I was smiling, thinking of our blessings, until I heard a loud sound and someone tumbling in. It was none other than my twin sister, Chloe. I knew she reeked of alcohol. "How much did you drink, sis?" I said, voicing my thoughts, and she said, "Good morning to you too, sis," before gagging and rushing out to throw up.
Great, just great. Now I have two kids to look after: my daughter and my sister. There's no possible way we're going outside today. I sighed and rubbed my face, knowing that I may not have classes, but it's going to be a long day. The sooner I start, the better. My daughter decided to give me back my phone, and I quickly wrapped up my conversation with Joel before ending the call.
"Chloe, are you okay? Why did you drink so much when you know you can't hold your liquor?"
"Fuck you, bitch!" she drunkenly yelled at me before passing out. I sighed. But I immediately frowned when my innocent daughter mimicked her, saying the same things. "Don't even think about it. That's not a good thing to say," I scolded before managing to carry my sister and laying her on the bed. I was still struggling with that when her phone began to ring. Looking, but before I could pick it up, it rang off. At the same time, my eyes caught a glimpse of a white envelope hiding somewhere between my boxes.
Once my sister was safely lying down, I picked up the phone and saw that the call was from Jayson, her supposed boyfriend. I was contemplating whether I should call him back or not, but he instantly began flooding her phone with messages.
"Oh my goodness. That explains why she's drunk. Jayson and Chloe broke up," I said out loud, staring at my now sleeping sister. Poor thing; she must be going through a lot. I thought as I picked up the paper that was hiding between my boxes. I thought it was an ordinary sheet of paper, but I was awfully wrong. Opening it up, I realized it was a letter.
From Nathaniel.
And it said ...
"Meeting you was my life's reward. Serenity, and to you, I give my life savings."
If I said I was shocked, it would be an understatement. I haven't finished recovering from the shock that Chloe is now single, nor do I have to face a new reality that somewhere, Nathaniel, even in death, left something in Serenity's name, and I would have to read the full letter to find out what it is.

<TYLER ADEOYE>
Yes, I've been emailing and texting, and at this point, I think I am officially a nuisance to her. Even I feel like a nuisance to myself. Hence, immediately after we had our one-month mid-semester break, I went home, locked myself up, cried myself to sleep, and played a lot of video games, leaving my mom and sister to pick up after me.
It was a little embarrassing, actually. A former band member, now a model, has both his mom and twin sister picking up after him. You can't blame me, you know; I am heartbroken. The only girl I have ever loved refuses to see or even talk to me because I cheated on her. I sighed, stuffing a bag of chips into my mouth and messing up the place I was sitting.
I was busy playing soccer when my mom entered, yelling my name: "TYLER!!" I completely ignored her, using one hand to block my ear. She stood above me, and it only made her fume more when she saw the mess I had created in my room, which I had extended downstairs to the sitting area.
"What, ma? I'm kinda in the middle of a game right now; can you come back later?" I said, not sparing her a glance. I was so focused on what I was playing because I wasn't about to lose, not when I was already leading 3-6, and if I could make this goal, I was sure to win this match and win the bet of beating my roommate, Dayo, three times in a row.
Before I could even sense it, my mom pulled me by the shirt, startling me and making me lose concentration. "Son, go clean your room; we have guests coming over tonight, and it's filthy in there!" she said, roughly pulling my shirt close to her and pushing me away. Phew, thank God she didn't hit me, I thought, as I responded.
"What, Mom? It's my room—" I said, but she interrupted me mid-sentence, saying, "It's my house." I chuckled, still not sparing her a glance, before saying, "So, go clean it yourself." That statement was supposed to be a joke, but she took it too seriously, yanking the controller out of my hands and using it to hit my head.
"You dare use my spell against me, son?" Her voice was so deep that I was worried I was going to lose my life. To make everything worse, I turned to look at her, and she was mad, red all over. She was about to hit me again, but this time with her bare hands, but I was able to slip out of her reach as I rushed to go and clean my room. My mom still made sure to get the Abara landing on my back as I made my way there, up to my room.
