MIGUEL Diaz had looked leaner since the last time he saw Cameron. His hair looked slightly thicker and longer since then too. Even though it had been only a few days he simply looked too fine. And that pissed her off.

He had come over with their Leopard Leo, a gift and a sheepish smile. Alexis was out at the moment leaving her daughter alone with her ex.

"You look great. Did you just come back from a run?" He shut the door behind him, taking in the sight of the gorgeous girl as they found their way to the living room.

"I was about to go on one but you texted me," she responded. He set the stuffed animal and a box on the table in front of the couch closest to the television.

Cameron missed Leo the Leopard also but at least he wasn't lost on his mini holiday.

Miguel hesitated sitting down, "Oh sorry I could come back later."

"No, it's fine you're already here," she waved him off, insisting that he sit next to her.

Miguel quickly did so, nervously wiping his hands on his pants.

"I just... I'm sorry. I'm so sorry for leaving like that." He stated, "I should've told you before"

"It's fine Miguel, I mean... It's not like we were together..." she trailed off.

He squinted his eyes, shaking his head, "Don't do that. Seriously. I hurt you. And we were on track to get back together. Tell me the truth. I can take it. Plus I left you on a really important day, it was messed up. So tell me."

"I lost All-Valley. You can see it on YouTube." She grumbled, "I've been trying to avoid all the videos but it's like a meme. My ass hit the mat quickly."

"But you beat Sam since you made it to the finals," he was right in that assumption.

Cameron exhaled deeply, "But I didn't win."

"I know. I know but that doesn't mean you weren't amazing."

"You weren't there Miguel. You wouldn't know." She snapped, rendering him silent. "You still just upped and left. I thought I could push that aside but it hurt. A lot. Just when I thought we were heading to a good place. This happens and you weren't there. But I know you needed to do this. You needed to deal with your past instead of running from it. So I didn't wanna bother you too much either. But I was scared for you. Worried every day. That something bad could happen to you... again." She couldn't even express the hurt she felt when she realised he wasn't there, at her side during the fights. She didn't wanna make it about her. But how could she not? "Did you even think of that?"

"Of course I did. And I'm sorry." He leaned closer to her, making her gulp. "It was wrong of me not to even ask about how everything went down. I was selfish not to ask and I was selfish for going and worrying you and my family."

Cameron didn't know what else to say, she knew he wanted to speak up more so she let him.

"Well, my dad... he was a bad guy as you know. My mom and Yaya were right for not sticking around. He didn't even know I existed." Disappointment and disgust were the words that came to mind when he met his father, Hector Salazar. "And I guess that's what's best. I got to know him without him knowing who I was. And with that, I know that my past is my past. I should never have gone searching for it."

She frowned, "But you did. And I think you needed to, I guess."

"Yeah. Sensei found me, he was there with Robby."

Her brows pinched together in confusion, "Keene was there, Why?"

"Probably some father-son bonding."

"Makes sense." She paused, staring at him intensely. He could detect her uncertainty. "So what else does this mean, you know for us? The past is the past. Is our past staying in the past?"

"What no, unless you want that?" He nervously gesticulated.

"No," she rushed out. "Not unless you wake up and leave to go to Mexico again."

"Never." He rapidly shook his head. "I was hoping we could get back together. Properly this time." A smile threatened to grow on his face. "And to show how serious I am. I got you something." He picked up the gift and presented it to her. Shooting him a glance, Cameron opened the box, eyes widening in shock when she saw a golden layered chain necklace. There was a leopard charm hanging from it. "It was all I could afford. Demetri and Eli helped me. If you don't like it — I mean we already have Leo and I brought him to Mexico with me, after all, it was my week with him."

"Miguel, please stop, this is beautiful." She peeled it out of the box, shooting him a look. "Wait shouldn't I be getting you something considering it was my mistakes that ruined us?"

"You didn't ruin us. We just needed time apart to come back together." He motioned her to turn around, carefully taking the necklace off her hands. "Now let me put this on you." He smiled when she faced away and shuffled closer. Her hair was out of and proud so he tentatively moved some thick strands away as he held onto the latch of the necklace. "I thought this was better than the apology breakfast I made my mom and Yaya. My mom threw up."

Cameron grimaced, "Remind me to never let you cook."

Her expression morphed into a happy one when she felt the cold links against her neck and saw the pendant sitting comfortably on her chest.

She turned around to look at him, breath hitching up at their closeness.

"It looks perfect on you... girlfriend," he whispered.

She smiled, "Well thank you, boyfriend."

"Just in time for your birthday."

"It is," she agreed, catching sight of his gaze dropping to her lips.

They began to lean in.

"Can I..."

She didn't let him finish his question and brought him in for a kiss. They slowly melted into it. Her arms snaked around his neck, as his hands gripped at her waist.

On instinct he tugged her closer, bringing their bodies together.

Cameron loved it and missed the feeling she got whenever she was with him. He made the hairs at the back of her neck stand to attention, her heart beat faster and her palms sweat. It mirrored all Miguel felt as he simply thought about her, let alone kissing her. It was like home. It was like winning. He never lost when it came to Cameron. Sure they argued, broke up and were on two different sides of a karate war. But they found their way back. They always did.

And they always will.

"No, no, no," he whined when she pulled away.

"I just wanted to add something."

"Hurry," Miguel childishly demanded.

"I don't think we should tell anyone about us yet."

His face fell, "Umm... why?"

He felt slightly agitated that she didn't want to tell the world about them getting back together. Especially with his hands hands firmly on her waist

"What if we break up again?" She asked with a pout, slowly pulling her hands away from his neck.

Miguel frowned, "Why would you say that?"

"I wanna be sure. Stable like the first time."

"Well, it's not the first time around. It's the second time. It's different. We've been apart for 8 months and 14 days," he ranted.

"I didn't realise you were counting."

"I didn't realise you weren't," he sassed back.

"Baby, I just want you to be sure."

He gasped, "Don't put this all on me."

"Well, you're the one who likes to jump on a bus and go to another country so yes. I'll put this all on you. Just give it until after my birthday and we'll tell everyone."

"Why after?" Exasperated Miguel.

Cameron told him, "My mom planned for us to do paintballing and I'm competitive."

He sighed, blowing out his cheeks, "Fine. Until after."

"Thank you. And just remember the invisible string theory," she teased.

"Oh trust me I will, I think it's telling me to take you to your room."

"Oh really?"

She laughed when he dragged her toward her room.

CAMERON'S phone rang early in the morning of her birthday, causing her to whine into her sheets as reached over to retrieve it. But her movement was restricted by an arm wrapped around her waist.

Miguel groaned when she tried to move again.

Aisha had already called her bright and early as did a few of her relatives who didn't respect her wanting to sleep during the summer.

"I would scream Happy birthday, but I know you'll hang up. So I'll guess I say happy birthday instead," she barely could make out her cousin's face on the phone.

"You don't respect the summer sleep," she grumbled.

Drew chuckled, he had already gone for a run before he started training with his team. It had been a week and he had already shown great potential.

When he properly eyed his phone he caught sight of someone else in the frame.

"Hey, Miguel." his teasing voice made Miguel open an eye and tiredly wave. "I knew you'd be back together the second he got back."

Cameron sighed, "Yeah, yeah. We haven't told anyone yet."

"That's dumb as hell, it doesn't take a genius to find out what's going on between you two."

"It was her idea," Miguel spoke up. His morning voice was to die for.

"Of course it was," Drew laughed.

Cameron pulled her bonnet back so he could see her eyes roll, "Anyway, thank you for the money you sent. I wish you were here for paintballing."

"Yeah, I would've kicked y'all asses."

"Whatever. Love you."

"Love you and happy birthday." Drew hung up.

Cameron peeled head off her pillow and set her phone down.

It was her birthday.

She pulled herself up, snorting when she could feel Miguel's arm tighten around her, "Miggy I told you to wake up before 6. Your alarm should've gone off."

It was 8 o'clock.

He stared at her, dreamily and muttered, "Happy birthday baby."

"Thank you, Amor," she smiled down at him as he eventually got out of her bed.

"I got you a card. I'll see you later okay?" Miguel tiredly grabbed his clothes, putting on what he could in a hurry. "You're gonna have a great day. I promise."

"Thank you."

He then kissed her forehead and exited from the window, almost toppling out.

Cameron wished she could've recorded it but once again it was too early and she didn't want to move.

Thankfully, she didn't have to, the door swung up and in came her mom with breakfast – the toast spelt out her name, with bacon and eggs near it. A cupcake was next to it with a 17th candle lit up with a mug of hot chocolate on the other side.

"Happy birthday my beautiful child," Alexis pressed a kiss to her head.

"Thank you mom, you sure you had enough space on the tray?" Cameron joked as she examined the tray on her lap.

"Shut it, now make a wish. I've run you a bath. You and I have a long day."

"I know."

"So get to wishing."

Cameron shut her eyes and blew out her candle.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━

"LISTEN up!" Cameron yelled, standing in front of the elite few who were invited to her paintball extravaganza. Her hair was in two space buns and her cheeks were coated with army-style paint.

"Jesus Christ," Lily reeled back when she picked up a paint gun.

Anala, Bert, Cameron, Chris, Demetri, Eli, Lily, Miguel, Mitch, Moon, Nathaniel and Sam stood in dark overalls and sporting clear goggles. With a pile of 6 bibs in the middle of them. The paintball session planned originally included Devon – but she had been very distant and Cameron had hardly seen her recently. Yasmine did not plan on coming because she couldn't stand group sports, but she RSVP'd the party later. The scenery was similar to Coyote Kreek but smaller and had more obstacles to get through or hide.

"Today is my birthday and if anyone messes it up I will scream. Is everyone in agreement not to mess up my day?" Cameron waited to hear them repeat it back to her.

"Yes," they answered.

She grinned, "Good."

"Now there will be teams," Lily announced, pulling out her phone.

Miguel leaned over to Eli and whispered, "Am I the only one who's shocked that Sam was invited."

Eli subtly nodded, "They've been getting along."

Miguel's eyes widened in wonder, "Really?"

"Things get wild in the valley when you go to Mexico," Eli joked.

Cameron yelled when she noticed they weren't paying attention, "Boys!"

"Sorry," they quickly apologised, whilst a few others quietly laughed.

"Team A is the birthday girl, then me of course," Lily read out, "Anala, Demetri, Nathaniel and Mitch. The losing team," she quickly corrected when she heard the others object. "I mean team B – Miguel, Eli, Bert, Chris, Moon and Sam."

"Oh so we're gonna win," Eli decided.

Demetri scoffed, "No chance."

Bert defended, "We've got All-Valley champs."

His team picked up white bibs and put them on.

"And we've got more girls," Nathaniel gestured to them, making them smile.

"As long as there is no fighting," Moon paused, "I am fine with this competition."

Cameron snickered, "Yeah, it's gonna be very friendly."

"That was sarcasm," Anala pointed out.

Cameron hissed, "No it wasn't 'Nala."

"No Karate shit here," Lily interrupted, "all other shit is allowed."

"Yes," some of the boys cheered.

"They're going down," Sam teased, earning a fist bump from Chris.

"Whoever loses has to buy the kegger," Eli suggested.

Cameron groaned, "We are not having a kegger, my mom and most of yours are gonna be around."

"Then we'll just keep it in your room until they go off doing whatever adults do."

"Whatever."

After checking their ammunition, a teen worker came over and stood near the birthday girl. Eli nudged Miguel peeping at the interaction.

"We need team names," the worker announced, lifting the sheet in his hands.

Mitch spoke up, "What about the Cobra –"

"How about no," the girls quickly shut that down.

Cameron quickly settled on, "Team Queen and Team Roses... you know for –"

"Guns 'N' Roses," Miguel finished her train of thought.

"Nice," Eli grinned.

"You into 80s bands?" the worker asked Cameron lowering his voice.

Everyone turned to them, Miguel more irritated than shocked.

"Yeah..." she awkwardly answered.

"That's cool," he said, impressed.

"Yeah, it is cool."

"Yeah what would be cool was if you started the clock," Miguel cut in, ignoring the snickering from some of his team.

Snapping out whatever trance he was in, the worker sheepishly agreed, "Yeah... sure man."

Cameron shot Miguel a subtle look, which he rolled his eyes at as the worker disappeared behind the stand.

"C'mon man, let's win this whole fucking thing!" Eli yelled and the teams split up quickly just as the buzzer started.

There was an hour on the clock but everyone knew it would be concluded in less time.

Rock music blared through the speakers as the teams began to start their fake kills.

"Sorry man," Eli grinned when he hit Nathaniel right between his clear goggles sending him to the ground, "it's nothing personal. Oh shit –" he ducked in time when Demetri shot at him. "Oh, you're so gonna pay for that."

Cameron stifled a laugh when she got out Moon straight away who was hiding in a large can container.

Sam wasn't far behind when she caught sight of Lily who was dragged out of the way by Demetri.

"Paint war!" Eli was heard yelling just before shooting at Chris who crawled away.

"You bitch!" Lily shouted when someone shot near her head. "You better not get paint in my hair!"

"Duck!" Cameron yelled, pulling the trigger when she saw Bert's head peak around the corner. A second didn't even go past before she heard a groan fall from his lips and his body drop. "Hell yes."

"Come out, come out," Sam whispered, momentarily shocked when she found Anala who didn't bother raising her gun. "Really?"

Anala shrugged, "I'm all yours."

Sam blinked rapidly, trying to distract herself from the flirty tone used and shot at her arm.

"Sorry," she apologised.

"Never be sorry for winning," Anala shot her a wink before disappearing around the corner, leaving Sam partially stunned.

Her frozen state was broken when a paint pellet splattered inches from her arm.

"Shit," she ducked for cover.

"You ass!" Mitch screamed when he was shot in the side by Chris.

"Gotta be quicker than that my friend," Chris said, laughing.

Cameron tried not to pant as her eyes darted between the small folds in the infrastructure. She could see people running and hear pellets raining down.

Just before she was about to stand up, she was pulled back, nearly drawing a scream from her before she realised who it was.

Miguel quickly pulled her into a kiss.

"Wait... wait...." she tried whispering but he kept pulling her back for more. "This better not be some cheap trick, because if it is that's kinda hot."

"What, being devious?" a smirk tugged at his lips.

"Yeah, it's a new look on you. But you know what's old? You being jealous of some random worker," she poked out his chest.

He argued, "He was checking you out, everyone could see."

"Well keep a lid on your jealousy Mr Diaz,"

Miguel simply shook his head and helped her up, which almost led her to getting shot at.

"You motherfucker!" she yelled, angling her gun to the assailant.

But fortunately for her, Miguel shot them down.

"Shit!" Christ screamed, "Someone got me in the ass."

"Man down," Eli called out.

"So chivalrous," Cameron stared at him heatedly.

"I try," Miguel gave her one more quick kiss before fleeing the scene.

"Damn," she muttered then crawled across the floor, taking cover behind another wall.

"Ouch!" Demetri cried out, "That was my nose."

"Sorry 'Metri," Lily weakly apologised, then narrowly avoided more attacks.

"Avenge me Roses! Avenge me!" they all heard Demetri shout.

Eli debated whether or not to shoot his girlfriend, but he prioritised an easy life so instead when he saw Nate, he let loose.

"I'm dead dude, you can stop hitting me," the younger teen covered his face.

Eli shot him one more time for good measure then picked up his gun.

There were 5 people left. Team Roses had Team Queen outnumbered by 3 to 2. It was tricky but it could work.

"Sam duck!" Miguel hissed, just as she just managed to avoid another pellet.

"Thanks," she breathed out.

"No problem."

From their hiding space, Lily cursed, "Oh shit."

"What?"

"I've got like 2 pellets left," she quietly said.

Cameron tossed over a spare gun, "Here, I picked up Bert's gun."

"Thanks." Lily shot into the ground to test it out, "Shit it's almost empty."

Cameron groaned, "Then don't shoot blind."

They quickly and quietly made up a new plan.

"I think we got them cornered," Eli whispered to Miguel and Sam as they crept up.

Sam wasn't sure, "Really?"

"Those are Lily's shoes," Eli pointed to where he could see them sticking out.

"On 3?" Miguel suggested.

Team Roses let it rip onto them, pulling the trigger as many times as possible even with double the ammunition.

But what they soon would realise was that they heard no screaming, no bodies dropping. Nothing at all.

Miguel stiffened, "Wait..."

"Shit," Sam cursed.

Eli glanced between them, "We've been duped."

"Get down!" Sam yelled, scrambling to hide when she heard movement behind them.

"Hello guys," Cameron narrowed her eyes as she shot Eli's back.

Lily screamed when she shot Miguel's side.

The best friends shared a look before pulling a trigger and hitting Sam in the legs.

Team Roses were down.

"Team Queen wins!" Lily screamed, bringing everyone else out. The victors celebrated despite the pain they felt.

Mitch cheered, "Hell yeah."

"I knew we could do it!" Nate praised.

"Hey Eli, I want 2 keggers now," Cameron yelled.

"Great," Eli drawled.

Miguel couldn't help but smile as he watched his girlfriend be held up and honoured.

"Whatever man, at least we get to drink," Eli found the light in this.

"I could do with one right about now," Sam joked as Moon helped her stand.

She may not have won but she enjoyed herself and karate wasn't involved.

"Team Queen! Team Queen!" the victors cheered around the losing team, but eventually everyone joined in. "Team Queen!"

━━━━━━━━━━━━━

"HOW many kids are here?" Amanda asked, over the music thumping through the home, after taking a sip of her wine.

Alexis sighed, "Too many, I should never have left the guest list to Lily."

"Kids," Carmen murmured, refusing to drink when she was offered, confusing the mothers.

"Art kids, karate kids – the good ones, and others are from around the Valley."

"As long there is no fighting, no kids throwing up and no PDA, it'll be fine," Amanda listed.

Carmen laughed, "That's wishful thinking."

"God I wish I had something stronger," Amanda gestured to her drink.

"I have more in my room," Alexis commented and gestured around the corner.

The mothers followed her down the hall.

Cameron stated from the kitchen, "I'm sticking to my cider, you know how touchy-feely I get when I'm drunk."

"Girl, just say horny," Lily giggled.

"Yeah, we all know how horny you get." Eli sniggered, arm wrapped around his girlfriend's waist. "Miguel told me."

Cameron froze for a moment, "How much?"

Eli gave her an odd look, "More than I should know."

"No one can keep a secret," Cameron groaned.

"Is there another secret that I don't know about?" Lily questioned.

"Another?" Eli raised a brow.

Moon joined them leaning across the counter, "Secrets, tell me."

"I love food," they all heard Nathaniel say as he bit into some pizza.

Cameron quickly assured them all, "There's no secrets."

Mitch rushed over, "Eli, help me, Bert's trying to do a keg stand outside."

Eli discarded his drink, "Shit."

He quickly followed behind Mitch.

Cameron giggled and then caught sight of something she never wanted to see again.

"Please tell me Yasmine is not trying to swallow Demetri's face on my couch," she groaned into her hands.

Moon seemed to think it was romantic whilst she ate the vegan snacks.

"I won't tell you," Lily started.

"Good."

Lily tried pulling Cameron's hands away from her face, "I can show you."

"No, let go of me you demon," Cameron whined when she caught a glance of the excessive PDA happening. Her grimace fell when Sam came over, "Oh hey."

"What's happening?" Sam asked slightly amused.

"Evil things," Cameron said, whilst Moon responded, "Girlhood."

"Nice," Sam smiled.

Cameron noted, "You don't seem comfortable."

"Being sober at a party full of sweaty teenagers and wine moms is weird."

"Anala is also not drinking," Moon stated.

Sam's appeared intrigued, "Really why?"

"She doesn't drink," Cameron answered.

"Oh, that's cool," Sam turned to see Anala sitting next to Chris, engaging in a civil conversation.

Miguel joined them shortly after.

Lily hummed in agreement, "Very."

Moon followed Sam's gaze only to realise something else, "Why is Miguel staring you down, Cameron?"

"What?" Cameron peered her head to the side, then suppressed the urge to roll her eyes. "Oh, he is."

"Is something going on between the two, because of the jealous vibes I got from him at the paintball match..." Lily trailed off.

Moon nodded, "Same even after I was out by the first round."

Sma gasped, "I felt them too."

"You guys felt nothing but pain. Leave it at that," Cameron decided, but they didn't.

"The pain in my legs has worn off, but I definitely –" the doorbell cut Sam off.

"Oh look another guest..." Cameron thought she would be grateful to see another face until she realised who it was. "Oh."

No one expected to see Robby Keene step into the house with Johnny trailing behind him.

Miguel went to stand up, but Chris held him back. Anala briefly remembered Robby from All-Valley.

Feeling the eyes on him, Robby's gaze finally found the birthday girl. She sceptically stared at him. In all honesty, she didn't like Robby mainly for what he did to Miguel as well as Eli, and the guilt she felt when he texted it was her fault. But today was her birthday, a day she wanted a day without any unease. Now, it would be the second birthday she was having without her dad His hair looked longer and his demeanour was confident, not arrogant. So, to put a stop to the murmuring and whispering, she stepped forward.

Miguel watched the entire exchange, from where he stewed between Chris and Anala. Robby held out a pack of her favourite canned drink, Fanta. Miguel rolled his eyes, muttering and cursing under his breath when Cameron accepted it.

Johnny let out a sigh of relief after leaving a can of beers for Cameron on the side, " Happy birthday kid."

"Thanks," Cameron said, before turning to Robby taking the peace offering. "There's spicy food over there; try not to choke or anything."

"Thanks," Robby awkwardly replied, then stepped away and out of the limelight.

"That was nice of him," Sam spoke up.

The girls didn't know what else to say but decided to open a can of Fanta.

"I'm gonna go tell Eli before he starts something," Lily murmured.

"Thanks," Cameron nodded, Lily disappeared outside. She looked at Sam and said, "Hey, could you give one of these two to Anala, I know she likes them also."

"Y-yeah, sure." Sam's stammering caught Cameron off guard, but it was quickly dismissed when Miguel came over.

"What the hell?" he hissed, replacing Sam's space.

Cameron sighed, "Mig, can you calm down?"

"I was calm until he came over. Why is he even here?" Miguel couldn't knock the sneer on his face.

"I didn't invite him. Johnny definitely did." Cameron knew it was a part of another one of Johnny's plans to have them all getting along. "Besides, he wouldn't be here if he was still part of Cobra Kai."

"Maybe..."

"Anyway, Aisha tried to call me again but the signal is terrible at Camp," Cameron switched topic.

At the mention of his friend, Miguel's face morphed into something friendlier, "She's at another physics one?"

"Yeah." Cameron nodded, then felt flustered under his gaze.

"Can I tell you something?" he leaned closer.

She gulped nervously, "What?"

"You look so beautiful right now."

Cameron bit down on her lip, trying to stop her smile from appearing, "Miguel."

Miguel's lips trailed against her ears, "What?"

"This is gonna get us found out," she replied, placing a hand on his chest.

"I really don't care." When he pulled back, his heated gaze dropped from her eyes to her lips and then to her chest, where his gift sat comfortably. "And that necklace looks great, who got it for you?"

She played coy, "Just some guy."

He quirked up a questioning brow, "Some guy?"

"Yeah, he tells me he loves me, buys me jewellery and has great hair."

"Oh really?" he grinned.

The music got louder as more guests began to dance. More of the kids wanted to disappear into the garden where the actual fun was happening but were sidetracked by the food. Amanda and Alexis emerged from the hallway slightly tipsy, whilst Carmen was helping them up.

Robby still stood in the corner, with a plate, awkward as hell, with only his dad and Miguel's grandmother to talk to.

"I need to get some air," Cameron murmured to Miguel who was eager to follow her.

"I'll join you."

As they made their way through the party, he heard some murmurs.

"-- Dude she's so hot –"

"--I wonder what her birthday suit looks like– "

"-- Do you think I have a chance?--"

Having heard enough, Miguel pulled Cameron by her belt loops, making her squeal as she turned around, placing her hands on his shoulders for balance. He leaned in and kissed her, earning gasps and then cheers around the room.

"I knew it!" Lily exclaimed, next to Moon who captured the moment on her phone.

"About time," Johnny said to Rosa, who clasped her hands together joyfully.

Robby stared with indifference.

"It's time for cake!" Alexis called out when they pulled out apart, grinning at the couple.

More cheers followed at her announcement.

a/n:

8 months and 14 days, miguel was counting every single second. i was considering that they stay broken up but take it slower, but this is cobra kai. i doubt they last another season apart. i tried to add as many interactions as possible with it seeing naturally as well.

i feel like miguel and cameron's relationship fully started in season 5 just because they're more mature now. also, I wanted to do cameron's birthday here since this episode wasn't full of much. tory will be avoiding cameron mainly out of guilt that she feels since she feels like a fraud.

also alexis' birthday breakfast -- my mum loves to spell out my name for toast next to my full english. it's the best thing.
