"oh. most likely because... actually no definitely because of the grand bout."

kohaku then explains to Senku and (y/n) on how the men fight for her sisters hand in marriage to become chief, like how her father once did. And then how she got close to bashing magmas head in.

"that's so cool! I wish someone would do that for me!! Senku you should do that if someone asks for my hand in marriage."

"you think i could do that? you're completely delusional then, and even if i could its illogical for me to fight for you. But also so that's why your dad disinherited you?"

Senku said, leaving (y/n) with a sad look. If her friend wasn't willing to fight for her even in a joke scenario, if it came down to it would he fight for her at all?

"I guess it was the last straw."

"she's always been a wild child, too much to handle."

"they'll be another grand bout next month actually!"

"ooo do i get to watch?! i wanna see you beat his ugly looking ass!!"

chrome then spoke up.

"So that's why magma went and killed gen!! having a chief like him would be bad news for everyone!!"

"well it could stand in the way of our goal, right, senku?"

"yes. it will become a challenge to recruit the villagers and to continue production of the panacea for ruri..."

everyone was in thought for a bit.

"Hey this is actually a good thing! If one of us is the winner of the bout we could marry ruri and become chief!! that would solve all our problems, we could easily get ruri to take the medicine and recruit the others to our cause!"

"ding ding ding 10 billion points for (y/n)!"

senku said patting her hair.

"Oi kinro, ginro! a question for you two."

Kohaku stated intensely at the two boys with (y/n) behind her.  Senku and Chrome were off to who knows where.

"What do you think of my big sister ruri!? would you like to marry her?!!"

Kohaku asked sternly, leaving ginro to go on a rant about her lovely personality and how 'ladylike' she is.

"that's quite vulgar, ginro. It's kinda gross..."

(y/n) said leaving the blonde completely and utterly embarrassed.

"I! NO I DIDNT MEAN IT LIKE THAT YOURE ALSO REALLY PRETTY (Y/N) AND YOUR BOOBS, I MEAN YOUR FACE I MEAN YOUR LADYLIKE REFINEMENT IS VERY NICE LETS GET MARRIED!!"

Ginro pleaded to our lovely (y/n) grabbing on her wrist. leaving his brother no choice but to hit him.

"the outsiders correct, ruri is more than just a face. or are all womens looks all your concerned about. if so you disgust me, ginro. And you'd be grossing out (y/n) too she certainly won't marry you."

omg we love a man who can stand up for women maybe i'll get married to this one!

(y/n) thought with a dreamy smile.

"But my answer is simple 'guards don't engage in discussion.' rules are rules. I already get it Senku and (y/n) aren't bad guys. but if it's just casual conversation then it's fine. just skip the details."

kohaku looked at kinro with a sad expression.

"we're trying to save my sisters life."

The 4 of then walked to the camp.

"you know you two barely look the same. the only thing tying you together is that beautiful shade of green of your eyes."

(y/n) said to kinro while kohaku and ginro chatted away.

"beautiful? you don't know me, so don't say such silly things."

"Silly! i was just trying to make conversation."

(y/n) scoffed, crossing her arms.

"i'm sure you're really sweet though. even if you are a stickler for the rules. I'm kind of the opposite, i'm a bit impulsive and i tend not to keep track of the rules. So i think eventually we'll get along!"

she says, optimism lacing her voice.

"get along! what you said is nothing like me that's the complete opposite."

"have you never heard the saying opposites attract!! oh wait.. you probably hadn't sorry but yeah no i'm sure we will eventually!"

opposites attract? what does that even mean? does she want to attract me to her, is she trying to seduce me! Kinro as a guard you must not be swayed by anything. Rules are rules.

Kinro thought, his face getting a bit red. The thought of a girl trying to seduce him was quite a foreign idea. luckily he doesn't have to think about it anymore as kohaku asked him and his brother to spar with them.

"YOU THINK YOU CAN DEFEAT MAGMA LIKE THAT HIT HARDER!"

Kohaku screamed at kinro and ginro as she tried to train them. Chrome decided to keep watch from atop in the shed.

"the truth is chrome. I'd like to train you more than anyone. But the only chance of beating magma are kinro and ginro. (y/n) and I might not even be allowed to enter, i'm sorry."

"damn village is homophobic."

"you're head over heels for ruri right! so i bet you sing on board with the plan of kinro and ginro to marry her!"

Senku said cackling at senku.

"don't be mean senku!"

(y/n) yelled, hitting him in the process.

chrome bright back to one of his fondest memories with ruri. when they were kids, the hope ruri had in her eyes when chrome said he'd cure her. He will never forget.

"it's not a problem at all. If this scientific panacea can cure ruri... if she can live on happily that's good enough for me. because above all else i'm a genius scientist!!"

wow that was so inspiring!! chrome and his love for ruri is so nice. I wonder if senku would say the same about me? Hell if anyone would say the same...

"heh heh heh so you've changed jobs from a sorcerer to a scientist?"

"Yup not a sorcerer anymore!!"

"we'll leave the grand bout stuff to our battle team! meanwhile chrome you can be my sidekick and help me work towards sulphonamides."

noise just kinda faded out for (y/n) after that. what did he mean sidekick? that's what he'd always call her. come to think about it Senku and her don't really interact that much anymore... maybe he doesn't want to be her friend anymore? even worse he probably hates her at this point. She's done nothing notable that she can think of except be a hindrance. is this really the fate for her and senku..?

"GLASS!"

"oh are we making glass next! i can't wait!!"

(y/n) said in response to the sudden sound. She has to be as useful as possible. But she didn't really have much of a direction with all of this, sure she knew her stuff but senku was making the moves, did he really need her for anythin-

"Oi (y/n)! help me get this thing off!!"

Senku called out trying to get the watermelon off of suikas head.

"OF COURSE!!"

or i find some way to get senku away from the main story for 5 seconds so it can at least seem like he has an intrest in y/n 😭😭
