Quarter No. 15
Happiness becomes more valuable in two situations, one when you are at its receiving end after a long battle of struggles and second when you have your loved ones with you by your side at the time when your heart craves for their presence. Moreover, isn’t it politically, diplomatically and philosophically correct that happiness relies in those little handful moments which you steal and store from the nanoseconds of the time.
Monami was feeling no different than that unexpressed yet the jubilance she longed for. She was ecstatic with Karan’s presence. His companionship was more praiseworthy than any gift, any gesture, and any fulfilled wish of hers.
Karan left no stone unturned in making his wife’s day euphoric. After they had their breakfast, which was specially cooked by him, while talking with the Mahajan’s, Karan asked her to show him the place which is her home away from home. Although there was not more than a room, hall, kitchen and two galleries, yet he wanted to know more about her space and Monami was yet again touched by this gesture.
The forenoon and noon were passed with more than the regular calls, endless teasing by their family and friends which did not include Karan, since he thought he could let his spouse free from his razz, at least for this day. Moreover, he was low key effulgent too, for his leg was pulled by his and her friends enough for the birthday post he shared on instagram. Monami, who knew nothing about the sweet deed of her husband, was quite taken back when Sidharth teased her on call saying, “Kya baat hai moti billi, tera banda toh kahi bhi peeche nahi hai aur is hadd tak ki hum normal logo ki biwiyan bhi, hume tere Kaptaan Sahab se training lene bol rahi hain.”
(Woah you fatty, your man is leading in all sorts and to the extent that wives of us ordinary men are compelling us to take training from your Kaptaan Sahab.)
“Kya ghooma phira ke baat kar raha hai tu kaminey?” Monami was unable to catch the hidden meaning of his words.
(Why are you talking in a roundabout manner, moron?)
“Yeh sahi hai, kaam tera banda karey aur gaaliyan mai khau.” Sidharth chaffed. He then continued, “Rukk tujhe whats app kiya hai, check kar.”
(How is this even fair? It’s your man who is doing everything and I’m the one who is receiving your cussing.) (Wait, I’ve shared you on what’s app.)
As soon as Monami saw what it was, her cheeks heated up and her eyes closed on their own accord. This man, Karan Shergill, had attained a degree of PhD in making her flush.
“Bro, back to earth.” Sidharth’s voice broke her trance and she when he saw that his buddy is refusing to meet his eyes, he said or rather razzed, “Haan vaise gaaliya khaane waali cheez toh definitely nahi ki usne.”
(But yeah, he didn’t do anything which deserves abuses.)
“Lekin agar tu chaahe toh ussey kisses zaroor de sakti hai.” Sanjana joined her husband and friend on the call, making Monami’s eyes wide.
(But if you want, you can definitely give him kisses.)
“Sanju!” Monami exclaimed before saying, “Kuch toh soch samajh ke bol.” She then addressed Sidharth, “Aur tu bro, yeh kabse kya keh raha hai?”
(At least think before speaking.) (And bro, what are you saying this since so long?)
“Le, ab isme kya sochna? Tera he pati hai, itna toh kar he sakti hai, in fact iss sey zyada bhi, agar tu chaahe toh.” Sanjana said nonchalantly but her last words made her wriggle her eyebrows.
(Hah, what is there to think? He is your husband, you are eligible to do this much, in fact even more, and that is if you wish to.)
“Kya Sanju, yeh apni Monu hai. Yeh nahi kar sakti. Aur itni der se mai kya keh raha hoon?” Sidharth first mocked Monami and then confusedly asked her in context to her earlier question.
(What Sanju, she is our Monu. She cannot do this. And what am i saying since so long?)
“Chup karo tum dono. Aur Sid, Karan mera.. ban.. mera ahhh, aisa kuch nahi hai, samjha? Monami first reprimanded her best friends and then she fumbled badly when she had to clarify that Karan is not uska banda.
(Shut up you both.) (Her man.)
“What? Tera banda? Whatever sails your boat bro. Chal, I’ll catch up later enjoy.” Sidharth hung up but not before teasing her again.
(Your man?) (Okay...)
Monami blinked her eyes thrice in order to understand what just happened a few seconds back and then hit her head lightly with the edge of her phone, blushing slightly.
She was startled when she was enclosed suddenly in an embrace and her back was met with a firm chest. Karan clasped the wrist of his left hand in his right palm and gave a little tug, tightening the hold a bit.
“Karan!” Monami gasped at his suddenness.
“Hmm?” Karan hummed letting the side of his jaw meet the side of her head, making her breath hitch a bit more.
“A-ah... Kya hua?” Monami asked, a bit shortened with the breaths due to this proximity.
(What happened?)
“Tum kuch keh kyu nahi paayi unhe?” He swayed them a bit.
(Why weren’t you able to say something to them?)
“Kinhe?” Monami was confused, but she let herself loosen slightly, in his hold, getting accustomed to his bodily warmth.
(To whom?)
“Tumhare dosto ko.” Karan said shortly.
(To your friends.)
“Kya nahi keh paayi?” She again asked, now more relaxed.
(What I was unable to say?)
“Yahi, ki mai tumhara he banda hoon!” Karan took a leap of faith and in the moment, he nuzzled his nose in the crook of her neck, tracing its path before aligning his jaw with her head.
(This thing, that I’m only your man.)
“Mm.” Monami wanted to say something, but she could only moan. Her body was not in her control and she could feel her wild heartbeats in sync with his. They have taken yet another step in their relationship and she did not feel any discomfort, rather this was pleasurable to her.
She loosened herself completely, raising her hands and keeping them firmly on his hold, freeing him from his apprehensions as well and when she felt Karan securing their hold. Monami whispered, “Abse keh dungi.”
(I’ll say from henceforth.)
Karan swayed them again. “Hmm, aur kya kahogi?”
(Hmm, and what you’ll say?)
“Yahi ki, tum mere ho.” Monami closed her eyes as soon as she whispered that, inhaling a deep breath and Karan smiled softly before dropping a sweet peck on her temple before his lips found their way to her cheeks.
(That you are mine.)
“Umhm. What about you, Mrs. Shergill?” Karan questioned before turning her, still keeping close with his hands in the same position and gazing deep in her eyes.
As he turned her, Monami’s palms grasped his shoulders for support and then she took a second to calm her erratic beats before answering, “Mai bhi.”
(Me too.)
“Kya? Tum bhi sirf apni ho?” Karan teased her, taking full advantage of her fidgetiness.
(What? That you belong to yourself only?)
“Uh, mera matlab ki mai...” Monami frowned when she didn’t got a chance to correct herself.
(Uh, I mean that I...)
“Haan haan, ab bolo bhi.” Karan bit his lower lip to hide the smile that was desperately poking his cheek to surface up.
(Yes, yes. Now say something.)
“Karan, mujhe bolne do, tum har baar aise he karte ho!” Monami scrunched her nose.
(Karan; let me speak. You always do this to me.)
“Arrey toh maine tumhe kab roka?” Karan was thoroughly entertained.
(Hey, when did I stop you?)
“Okay now, let me speak.” Monami said firmly and then in another second she was effusive as she raised her trembling palm from her chest to his face and cupped it, before saying tenderly, “I’m yours too.”
Karan was on cloud nine when he heard these words. Though his wife at times lacked in words, yet her gestures made up for them and then at times like this, when she used words, he was left all charmed. He pulled his one hand back and took her palm and kissed it briefly.
Then Monami asked him about how come he knows what she was talking about, so Karan said that he came when Sanjana said that she can do more than that, if she wishes too.
“C’mon now, tell me what is it?” Karan pleaded, wanting to know more and now that this had managed to colour her cheeks red, he needed to know and he will.
“It was nothing.” Monami said, averting her eyes.
Karan pulled her closer to him, making her more crimson than she already was and leaned into her ear saying, “Soch lo, nahi toh phir mujhe Sanjana se puchna padega.”
(Think about it, or else I’ll have to ask about it from Sanjana.)
Monami shivered when his breath caressed her ear and she fisted his shirt from the shoulder then, just in a flow she raised herself on her feet, taking the advantage of the situation before raising on her feet and kissing his cheek, making him freeze and she trudged out but not before saying, “She asked me to do this if I wish to.”
The couple spent a few minutes alone, rewinding the scenes that transpired between them, letting the tingles and jitters seep deep in their bodies, and then just to brush off the silence that took place in between them, Monami went in the room and initiated, “Uh Karan, let’s go in the balcony with our plate and spoon or bell perhaps?”
Karan nodded, appreciating her effort and made a mental note to have a talk about the events that took place between them, he knew that communication is the key and he was keen on not letting that key catch rust.
The couple went into their gallery and Monami smiled at her fellow soldiers who were visible to her from there and nodded her head in yes when a few of them asked if he is her husband and they were pleasantly surprised to actually see Karan Shergill standing there.
Karan politely smiled at them and then joined his wife who started ringing the bell when the people started, a few seconds after 5, as per what the nation’s Prime Minister asked them to. They made sure to contribute their share, in order to pay a hearty tribute to their health workers, policemen and so on and so forth. Karan made sure to put a short video story of the same, in a way to engage and ask more people to express their gratitude. But what also became the highlight of the evening was the fact that Kaptaan Sahab was with his wife during this, since her reflection was captured in the camera.
Once done with this, Karan and Monami went inside and stood in quietude after they kept the bell and the plate at their respective places. The moment that they lived was indeed a significant step up in their relationship. Karan finally decided to break the ice between them and hence he held her hand and led them both in the living room to sit and have a comfortable talk.
“Monami, I know we both are new to this phase of our relationship, in fact this companionship itself a major change in both of our lives and yes we are taking more time to get accustomed to each other’s presence in our close proximity and that I believe is entirely okay, given to the fact that we hardly have spent a remarkable amount of time with each other, in such a close space.” Karan let his fingers roam and graze the skin of her palm dubiously yet with a grip that was providing him with a much needed confidence as well. He exhaled a sight before continuing with an easy smile that was making its way on his lips, “You know what Mrs. Shergill? I have come to this point wherein I can say that I like you, I like you very much.” He felt the hold of her hand getting more firm.
Karan paused, letting his wife take her time and then he began, “I know yeh kaafi jaldi hai, lekin ho he itni special, ki kisi ka bhi dil jeet sakti ho. Kahin na kahin, tum mere liye itni khaas bhi kahi na kahi isi reason se bani. I felt that first flutter when we met in the morning at FS and then, after our marriage, there are quite a few occasions. Be it your dynamics with baby or with Bhabhi or be it the way you treat Papa and Bhaiya. But the most endearing part is, how you bloom like a beautiful blossoming flower when I’m close to you. Though there are quite many more shades of yours, but abhi ke liye itna kaafi hai, nahi?” He eased out in the end.
(I know that this is quite early but I can’t help. You’re so special that you can win anybody’s heart. Somewhere along the lines, you’re exceptional to me due to this reason only.) (But for now, it is enough, right.)
Monami was swept off her feet with this confession that Karan just made. She was totally unprepared and never did she think that he’ll stump her out like this. She was in awe of the sincerity that this man carried and how he expressed his feelings to her, with his whole heart.
“Karan, at times I don’t even know how you do what you do? You make everything so easy for me. I have never felt like this, ever before. It is said that a girl leaves a lot behind her when she is married, yes it is true but you have never made me feel like that. As a matter of fact, I would preferably say that you have made sure that I never lose that left behind part. Yes, we are gripped by our commitments and are bounded by time but what we have is more real and rawer than anything else.” Monami leaned a bit forward, letting her knee touch his.
She then continued, looking in his eyes, “You know what? Tum soch bhi nahi sakte ki mai kitni khush hoon, tumhe yaha iss waqt apne saath dekhke. Aisa pehle bhi hua hai ki mai ya toh mere birthday pe akeli hoon and rarely, kabhi aise waqt pe bhi jab mujhe chot aayi hai. Lekin family ki itni yaad pehle kabhi nahi aayi. So thank you, for all that you have done, thank you for being you, Karan and I mean it. Moreover, I know you must’ve wanted to talk about what happened today, it wasn’t forced, it was meant to happen and it did. We are tied in a sacred knot and things like this are normal, and yes I liked the way all of it went, naturally and organically, you make me feel so secure that I can never put that feeling into words. I’m grateful to maa and papa, for you and mumma and papa for making me meet you.”
(You can’t even think how overjoyed I am, to have you with me in this juncture. It has happened before that I am on my own on my birthday and rarely at time times when I’ve gotten injured but never have I longed for a family like this, before.)
Karan was close to tears when he heard the last words of her, who the heck even said that she does not know how to express? He knows how floored he gets when he hears her feelings in her words. He was so fucking right when he said, that she is special and so much that she has the capability to win anyone’s heart. But for now, he wanted that heart to be his and his only.
They kept gazing at each other, letting their silence talk with each other, allowing each other to sink in whatever had been told so far and more so, what lies in between those said words. Seeing that Karan’s eyes were literally controlling themselves, Monami just said softly which she didn’t until now. “I like you too, Kaptaan Sahab.”
Saying so, she blinked at him twice and saw him unmoving, she immediately leapt forward and rounded her arms around his torso, hiding her in his embrace. Karan’s reverie broke feeling her in his arms and he chuckled, letting a tear fall from his eye as he tightened the hold. When Monami felt that drop of salty water on her upper arm, she tightened the hold, making him smile.
Karan's insides felt jittery hearing a nickname from her side, for the first time. Oh boy, he felt happy. Although this name will be special to him, it'll be on second only because the first one will always be the way she utters his name, when he is close to her.
The rest of the evening they were lost in their own bubble. They cooked their dinner together and also made preparations for the food that will be prepared for the next day.
Karan was thankful that he decided to actually buy a few dresses which he shopped when they got off days. He cleaned up well and put on his best looking nightwear and asked her to do the same. He transformed their dinner into a candle light one and he also made sure to do a simple dance with her on their favourite Kumar Sanu songs.
While dancing, she asked, “When did you even capture that pic? The one you’ve stealthily on instagram?”
“Your best friend must’ve told you about this ha?” He shook his head before saying, “I clicked that last night, when you almost buried your head in the bouquet, after I went to change.”
Monami smiled coyly and then said, “Yes he did. But why don’t you tell me before doing anything like this?”
“Because that is how it is supposed to be.” Karan twirled her in a back hug and said.
Monami would never fail to be in awe of this man, her man; she bit her lips when her inner self hinted at these words. His unsaid gestures for her, speaks volumes. She felt content in his arms.
The brightness of blue of the day soon transformed the sky first in the orange and yellow hues and then, concealing all of it in the dark blanket of the night. The walls of the quarter here witnessed some of the most prepossessing moments of the couple. They called it a night but not before Karan wishing his better half a last wish of her day, just like he wished her the first. They let their slumber cover them with their fingers along with their destinies entwined.
The next morning rolled in pretty fast, that was the thought that seeped into Karan’s mind the first thing. He let out a grumble before opening his eyes but all his grumpiness left him when he saw the way he and his wife were sleeping. Their entangled palm was nowhere to be seen, Karan slept on his side, by capturing the entire length of her forearm in the cocoon of his hands and the hands, still in a secure hold. Monami was facing him too, sleeping very close to his personal space, almost in it. The closeness, allowed him to affectionately gaze over her calm visage for quite some time and then he slowly freed his hand and dropped a small peck on her forehead before correcting the quilt on her and hopped out of the bed.
Not after too long, Monami woke up too and quickly did her morning business, sensing she’ll have to make the Pooja preparations. She dressed herself in a comfortable pair of a top and pyajamas and trudged towards the door. She then went in the gallery of the living room to witness her husband sweating out. She felt her throat getting parched and heat crawling on her cheeks at the sight of a shirtless Karan holding the bottle above his face to let the water cascade on his face. This sight left her curling her toes in anticipation. Although she has seen him, with a bare torso, some time back, yet this picture of something else. She shook her head to clear her thoughts as she saw him grabbing his t-shirt. Monami then swiftly dashed towards kitchen to do some work and also to distract her mind.
Monami was about to start with the morning meal when she heard footsteps approaching her. She tilted her head and saw Karan whose lips tugged a smile on seeing her and she wished, “Good Morning. Go freshen up, while I make some breakfast for you.”
Karan raised his hand to mess up his already tousled hair and then he shook his head in a denial before saying, “Arrey nahi, iski zaroorat nahi hai. But yeah, a cup of coffee would be great. Lekin issey zyada aap apne ko nahi thakayengi Officer Sahiba. I’ll come in just a short while and then we’ll prepare whatever is supposed to be done. And I won’t hear in anything.” His tone in end left no room for arguments making Monami nod at him with a tender smile.
(Hey no, this is not needed.) (But you won’t tire yourself out, Officer Sahiba.)
Soon after, the couple got busy with the food preparations, more like Monami got busy and Karan helped her by cleaning out the slab and utensils. All this while, Monami narrated him the importance of this festival and the stories related to this. She also disclosed him about how she used to be so excited in her childhood, seeing her mother all dressed up looking similar to a bride.
Albeit Karan wanted to see Monami all decked up in a saree, yet he didn’t wanted her to get troubled even while draping it and then carrying it, given to her injuries. But since his wife insisted, he agreed on a condition to help her out if she feels any sort of discomfort. Monami nodded and went in the room to change while he occupied the living room, to give her the privacy.
Once Monami was dressed up, she called Karan to help her out with tucking the safety pin on her Pallu on her shoulder and he did as asked, but their eyes held each other’s quite intensely when they felt the back of his palm grazing her bare skin on the back. Karan averted his after placing her hair back and then held both her elbows and swayed them. He frowned before asking, “Tum toh itne acche se taiyaar ho gayi, lekin mera kya? I don’t have anything in ethnic.”
(You have dressed up so well, but what about me?)
Monami’s brows furrowed too, before she realised something and pulling away from him, she went where her cupboard was placed and pulled out something. “Here, take this.”
“Not bad Mrs Shergill. But wait a minute isn’t this mine?”Karan first praised his wife and then he squinted his eyes in realisation.
“It is, actually...” When Monami was interrupted, she knew he’ll speak something to tease her.
“Kya baat hai, mujhe itna yaad kar rahi thi, ki mere kapde apne saath le aayi. But why in my absence though? I wouldn’t have denied you had you asked me.” Karan teased, wriggling his brows while leaning on the wall adjacent the mirror.
(Woah, you were missing me so much that you carried my clothes along with you.)
“Galti se aagaya tha, aur ab jaao bhi. We are getting late.” Monami said while narrowing her eyes.
(It was a mistake and now go.)
Karan feigned hurt, “Ouch, you hurt me.”
Monami shook her head with a silly grin playing on her lips before moving out of the room the she video called her mother and then assembled all the items required for worshiping. Karan joined her too and held the phone for her.
Monami offered her prayers and Karan made sure to offer his too. They were having their meal when Monami squeezed his hand said, “I know you have kept a fast for me, thank you for making me feel so special.”
Karan blushed slightly and turned his hand hold hers.
Their togetherness felt so much like home; it felt as if this is where they belong. Distance makes the hearts grow fonder of each other and this was clearly the case. Unke beech ke faaslon se, unki nazdeekiyan har haal mein badh rahi thi.
(The distance between them seemed to fuel up their closeness, increasing it in ten folds.)

This was pretty longgggg.
How was the chapter?
How were MoRan's moments?
Ain't they both so pyaare?
Btw, for the person who don't even know R of Romance, how was scene?
Was this chapter rushed?
Also, a word for the picture? This was closest to what I imagined.

And a few words in comments and votes, means a lottttt. It makes me feel acknowledged. Oh and if possible, please share this too?
