The three of them finally reached the abandoned Hawkins junkyard after hours of walking. The area was filled with rusty metal, old automobiles, and auto parts. Aside from that, it was totally unoccupied and open. An ideal location to entice a Demogorgon.
"Oh, yeah. Yeah, this will do." As Steve removed his sunglasses, Bailey glanced across at him and heard a sigh. "This will do just fine...Good call, dude."
"Where in the world?" Worried about the sunglasses whereabouts, he inquired.
"I said medium-well!" When they heard Lucas voice, everyone turned around to see him and a young girl with red hair standing by his bike. When Dustin's blush caught Bailey's eye, he knew the girl he was crushing on was actually her.
"Who's that?" Steve inquired.
As the two of them approached them, Bailey beamed and attended to Lucas first, but Dustin quickly took him away. "My name is Bailey." He approaches the little girl and introduces himself.
"It's Max." While adjusting her position ever-so-slightly, she spoke. Discomfort was something Bailey could relate to. He smiled sympathetically at her.
As the three of them began to collect supplies for the night, Bailey snatched a piece of metal and hauled it over to the bus. He leant it against the bus while puffing.
"Hey! Dickheads!" Bailey shifted his focus over towards Steve. "How come Bailey andย this random girl are the only one's helping me out? We lose light in 40 minutes. Let's go.
Let's go, I said!"
"All right, asshole!" Dustin responded. "God!"
As he leant over the metal, Bailey fiddled with his fingers ever-so-slightly. Bailey stood there, staring at the metal as if it had some sort of effect on him; Steve couldn't help but smile as he glanced over at him.
As the sun dipped below the horizon, Bailey marvelled at the changing sky colours. "Come on, Bailey." Steve made the comment while standing at the bus's entryway. With a grin on his face, Bailey approached the bus and got on board just as Steve got on and shut the door behind him.
As Bailey leant his head against the bus wall, he sat on the ground and the world around him fell silent. Dustin strode restlessly down the bus aisle as Steve toggled a lighter on and off. Max appeared to be deep in thought, her palm resting on her skull.
"So you really fought one of these things before?" Max looked around, but she was particularly interested in the older teens. Steve gave her query a subtle nod. "And you're, like, totally, 100% sure it wasn't a bear?"
The fact that Bailey could still see the scar on his hand served as proof that everything had happened. "It's perfectly legitimate; you can't fabricate events like this."
"Shit. Don't be an idiot. Okay? It wasn't a bear"They cocked their heads in the direction of Dustin, who had halted pacing. "Why are you even here if you don't believe us? Just go home."
Max stood up and rolled her eyes in surprise." Geesh. Someone's cranky. Past your bedtime?" Max said as she ascended the ladder, Bailey looked over at Steve, furious that the advice he had given Dustin had obviously backfired.
"You all are completely ignorant." As Bailey stood up and made his way to the bus's terminus, Steve glanced across and shrugged.
Out of nowhere, a terrible shrieking sound emerged. As they all pivoted, a chill went down Bailey's spine. Hurriedly, they made their way to the window to peer outside. Bailey, trying to see what was outside, pushed in between Dustin and Steve.
"You see him?" Dustin inquired.
"No." Steve answered.
"Lucas, what's going on?" As Dustin raised his eyes to the sky, he wondered.
"Hold on!.... I've got eyes!" Lucas called back. "Ten o'clock! Ten o'clock!"
On its belly, a little Demogorgon crept towards the heap of flesh. A feeling of terror gripped him, and he averted his gaze. It seemed like Bailey was about to get sick.
"What's he doing?" Dustin asked
"I don't know." Steve said.
"He's not taking the bait. Why is he not taking the bait?"
"Maybe his not hungry." Dustin proposes.
"Maybe he's sick of cow." Steve answered.
Steve drew back as he snatched his bat; glancing down at it, he understood. With a shake of his head, Bailey pivoted around.
"No, Steve." While attempting to wrest the bat from him, he said something. " you're not going out there."
"Just get ready." Bailey and Dustin looked at Steve worriedly.
"Steve, you're going to hurt yourself; stop being so foolish." As he felt his emotions well up inside, Bailey shook his head and replied.
"At least I'll die trying to save you." Prior to understanding what he had uttered, Steve murmured. "Everyone here." Despite his best efforts, he couldn't help but give in to his feelings for Bailey; the brown-eyed boy glanced at him with a look of total confusion.
As he walked back towards the door, Steve turned around. He let himself out via the open door and then shut it behind him.
"What's he doing?"As she began to down the ladder, Max inquired.
"Expanding the menu." Dustin responded.
"Shut up Dustin."
In what seemed like a baseball stance, Steve swung his bat. Bailey felt terrible for him and couldn't fathom the thought of Steve injuring himself because of them all.
"He's insane." Max responded
"He's awesome." Dustin answered.
"His gonna get himself killed." Bailey finished as he shook his head.
Out of the fog, the Demogorgon came, at last. As Steve stood motionless, staring at the Demogorgonโthe source of that godawful chittering soundโBailey's heart raced with panic. Steve lifted his bat.
"Steve, watch out!" Lucas screamed from the roof.
"A little busy here!" Steve insisted.
"Three o'clock! Three o'clock!"
Bailey's head swivelled around. Another little Demogorgon was indeed creeping up on Steve. He seemed startled.
Demogorgons, their mouths open like flowers, rushed at Steve. Bailey let out a gasp as Steve sprang away from the monster and proceeded to roll over one of the red cars. With another swing of his bat, he struck out once more. Quickly, Lucas descended the ladder and met everyone at the entryway.
"Steve! Come on."
With the Demogorgons hot on his heels, Steve sprang into a sprint and raced towards the bus. The Demogorgon's jaws swung open, exposing rows of vicious teeth, As Dustin slammed the door in the Demogorgon's face and Steve leapt onto the vehicle, his mind raced with panic.
"Are they rabid or something?" Max questioned.
"They can't get in!" Lucas yelled out. "They can't!"
As the bus slid forward, it tossed them around. All around them, metal and glass shattered, there was a little hush, but it was brief. At the bus's entrance, a Demodog sprang into action. Steve swiftly retrieved his bat and unleashed a vicious strike on the Demodog.
In order to shield the children from harm while Steve engaged the monsters, Bailey led them to the opposite side of the bus and stood guard at their side. As Dustin yelled out, he raised his headset to his lips. "Is anyone there? Mike? Will? God! Anyone! We're at the old junkyard, and we are going to die!"
As soon as the Demodog was released from the bus, Steve retreated. It remained, nevertheless. The roof was beaten by it. The entire bus trembled as each paw smacked upon the antique metal. It was only when they peered up into the aperture that led to the rooftop that they noticed it. With its paws firmly grasping the ladder, the Demodog peered down at them.
"Out of the way! Out of the way!" In response to Steve's command, Bailey snatched her up and embraced her tightly as soon as Max let out a piercing scream. "You want some? Come get this!"
While yelling at the Demodog, Steve nearly swiped at him. Steve felt a flutter in his palms as his bat trembled frantically. The sound roused the Demodog, who promptly sprang off the bus and ran away.
The bus trembled once more, but after a considerable pause, it remained motionless. Crickets were the only sounds audible. After staring at the hole in the roof for what seemed like an eternity, Steve finally gave up and looked away. As a group, they shuffled to the windows. As far as the fog that encircles the junkyard was concerned, the air was clean.
"What happened?"
"Steve scared 'em off?" Dustin suggested, looking around.
"No" Steve murmured, his baseball bat resting on his shoulder as he peered into the distance. "They're going somewhere."
