|| chapter 9 - Awake! ➽✧ ||

▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄

He woke up. He woke up on a small medical bed, lights fixed around him as he felt his face, it was dry, and his goggles were in his bedside. Multiple racks that held tubes were stuck into his back palm, feeling a light bandage around his forehead. He lifted the covers, finding him shirtless but with a huge wrapping of white wraps that covered the huge slice on his hip. He could faintly see pink tint to where the gash was, but it looked as if it was handled enough.

A screen viewed his pulse, beeping to the rhythm of his heart, watching the line fall and rise as it kept going.

He slowly rose his head, his body was still half numb from the impact as he heard tiny voices from the hallway. His door was slightly closed, so he could still hear what they were saying.

"Raikou's doing fine. We've been able to put him into a stable condition, but he might have to be kept here for a few more days."

"I'm sorry, seeing him like this makes me anxious..."

"I know Hawks. It's all over, but right now, you can call his mother to visit right now. You might be able to visit him too if you want? "

"Sure..."

Raikou's eyes was interlocked on Keigo's, slits stating at the thunderstorm user's pale yellow eyes. The bird man in utter shock while the boy left infased.

"Y-your awake?? The doctors said you might wake up in a few weeks, but I didn't know now!"

"Yea- kinda just forced myself too."

Being wrapped the second time, instead by a pair of red wings, Keigo rushed up to him and embraced him, as if he was like some little human he was trying to protect, and he was.

"H-hey! I'm still recovering! Let go of me!"

"Haha, sorry little bird!! Maybe the big birds still too small?"

"Nah- I like Thunderbird better."

"Alright little bird!"

They went on laughing and chatting for a while, until Raikou's mother eventually came to see him because of the news. The screen in his room showcased a falling Raikou struggling against what looked like a nomu.

Kyoka had pouring streams down her eyes, rubbing her hand against his face, dented only with a few cuts brought together with some stitches.

"Honey I- I saw you on the news. I came as soon as I could, but when I saw you... fighting the nomu all by yourself- I couldn't help but start crying.."

"Hey mom! Don't worry, I'm fine now! You can still take care of me even if I'm here."

"Erm actually, it wasn't a nomu. It was some guy in a nomu suit, apparently trying to scare his victims, but his only Quirk is to change the size of his arms, making it look as if he was growing in size. Don't worry. We have already contained him. But still, even with a Quirk like that, as well as that suit, able to withstand thousands of impact of force, its no wonder he was able to hold against you."

Raikou remembered the scene with the nomu. The way it look so realistic, but it did seem a little loose, like his head could pop out any second, he remembered that. He remembered the little stitches on his arms, but the gloves he apparently was wearing had a special sort of material, making it stretch out, he almost though that was their skin.

"Thank you for your explanation Hawks. And yes. We did some analysis on him and he was a former student of U.A, but he failed the hero course and was sent to general studies, where he ultimately though the world was against him. I think your parents would have been in their first year when he was in his third."

The four of them, one mother, a recovering son, an uncle who's a retired hero, and a police officer all stood in silence, except that Raikou had been sitting up on his bed.

He had just learnt he had stayed over a week in the hospital before he woke up, and was visited by his schoolmates, until they then came back the next day. It was a good thing he told his uncle about them, and even gave them his number before they went, but obviously didn't know they cared to visit, until they did.

"Hey! Raikou's awake!"
He was amused to see both of them racing to his room, just by the red cheeks they had from running and how they both laid on his bed for a rest.

"Hey guys.. how'd you know I w-was here?"
"Because Hawks told us, and the news. Hey! Your pretty famous lately!"
Kazuma pointed out, poking Mirako's cheek to annoy her while they both sat up.
"I h-have?? No way..."
"Yea! -Hey stop that! Anyways, we're gonna be here for a really long time. You know- hanging out!"
Mirako instead pinched Kazuma's cheek, grinning at Raikou as he watched her ears had suddenly perk upwards in delight.
"Yea!

Kazuma added, stumbling off the bed to escape Mirako's grasp.

Kazuma and Mirako both exchanged stories to tell Raikou, as each story became interesting by the day, some about how he got his Quirk, or how Mirako was in a small accident where she met her idol.

Both were chatter boxes, while Mirako had sweared the most out of all of them, but Raikou looked as if he had found his people. People who don't care and just live life tbe way it is. A popular boy he didn't like the attention, seeking justice when he spoke him for himself, and a girl fond of her idol, chasing her dreams into following in her footsteps. And him. A boy with great parents, but a past he would try to erase, seemingly finding his way through the world with the help of loved ones. He wanted this. He wanted to cherish this. The smiles his friends gave, the worry in his mother's eyes when she saw him, and the feeling of being valued by his own idol. That's what he wanted. That feeling.
