Queen
The baby woke up again after a few hours but went to sleep shortly after. We spent hours eating and watching scary movies. I jumped at every chance I got while Syn seemed completely calm and bored.
"How are you not scared of this shit?" I whispered.
"I've seen scarier," he muttered. "Is the Queen of Hell afraid of a demonic doll?"
"Oh please, it's a lot less scary here. But these movies scare the fuck out of me."
The baby began crying next to us and Syn picked him up. "Hey, kid."
His crying quieted down and Syn laid him on his chest next to me. "When did he eat last?" He asked.
"Umm, like four or five hours ago," I said as I sat up and glanced at the clock.
"He's probably hungry, where's his mother?" He asked.
"One of the guest rooms. I'll tell one of the guards to go check on her mom." I crawled out of the bed and to the door and opened it. I spotted a guard a few feet outside of the door and waved at him.
"Please have someone check on the baby's mother. She can come to get him or at least send back a bottle if she needs more sleep," I said. "She's in one of the guest rooms."
"Yes, your highness." He turned to walk back down the hall and I closed the door. I walked back to the bed and Syn's eyes were focused on the TV.
"Look," he gestured towards the movie.
I turned towards it and watched it intently. The main character was walking through a dark corridor and anxiety began to crawl in my skin. I jumped and screamed when a jump scare happened and Syn chuckled from the bed.
"You did that on purpose," I said as I held my hand over my chest.
"It was funny."
I ignored his horrible taste in humor and sat down. My head was in my shirt during the next few parts of the movie and I was so focused that I almost screamed when a knock sounded at the door.
"Wow," I whispered as I held a hand over my chest and walked towards the door. I opened it to see three guards and I raised my brow at them. "What's going on?"
"We can't find his mother. The other servants in the palace claimed there was never a woman working here with a child."
"I saw her cleaning earlier," I said. "She was wearing the clothes and everything."
"We looked through the cameras in the front of the palace and the woman carrying the child did come in, but she didn't work here. We showed her picture to the guards and servants but no one recognized her," he said.
"What the fuck," I whispered. "Well, who is she?! And where is she?"
"Her name is Anita Daniels, and she escaped from Dathrey Mental Hospital," he said.
"Are you fucking serious?" Syn asked as he walked next to me.
"I'm afraid so, sir."
"Is this even her baby?" I asked.
"The hospital told us that she was permitted to have her child with her."
"So where is she now?"
"We don't know, all the left was this," he said as he held out a piece of paper with red lettering.
"Whose blood is that?" I asked.
"We believe it's hers."
Syn and I looked at each other in shock and I ran a hand down my face. I shook my head and held my hand out for the paper and the guard gave it to me.
Your highness,
I'm sorry to curse you with this child, but I'm afraid you are the only one who is able to bear it. He belongs here in Hell. I love him with all of my heart but ever since he came into this world, everyone around me has died. I couldn't bring myself to end his life, but I'm hoping you do. Don't look for me, I'll be dead by the time you're reading this. I apologize once again.
P.S. Don't bother giving him a name, I call him Evil.
"Is this a fucking joke?!" I snapped.
Syn took the letter from my hand and quickly crumbled it after he read it. "Go to the fucking hospital and bring me her files. Now."
The guards scurried away and Syn slammed the door before walking back to the bed. The baby began crying once again and he gently rocked him absentmindedly. When he calmed down, he looked back up at me weakly.
"This is what happens when you're nice to everyone," he muttered.
"I-being nice gets us left with a supposed evil spawn? I totally knew that."
He shook his head and looked back down at him. I watched in confusion as he remained silent for a few moments and I raised my brow. "What's going on? Are you being possessed?"
He rolled his eyes at me and scoffed. "No, I'm just thinking..."
I looked at the longing way he was looking down at him and I quickly shook my head. "Syn, no."
"What?"
"You act like you've never watched a scary movie," I whispered. "Rule 101: Don't adopt mysterious babies that have death following them."
"Queen," he said lowly. "I was one of those babies."
"And I wouldn't have adopted you," I argued.
Syn laughed at my words and looked back down at him. "He seems normal. He's smiling, see?" He held him out and I did in fact see his happy face looking up at us but I was still cautious.
"Syn, this is so creepy," I said as a shiver ran down my spine.
"It is, but we can't just abandon him."
"His mother said to kill him, there has to be a reason, right?" I asked in a frightened tone.
"She was in an insane asylum," he said. "Her mind probably conjured up something."
"But-"
"Queen relax, it's just a baby."
"No," I said as I pointed at him. " I will not be that one wife in movies that is super paranoid and turns out to be right. You will listen to me, Syn SinClaire."
He looked taken aback by my outburst but nodded slowly and I took a deep breath. "We will not make any decisions or go to sleep until we get these files from the hospital. Then, and only then, will we be making any decisions about where he goes."
"Fine," he said. "He needs to eat, though."
"What? Baby formula or blood?" I asked.
"Umm," he said as he opened his mouth and looked into it. "He's not an underworld creature..."
"Human?"
"There is no heartbeat."
"Then what the hell is he?"
"I don't know," he whispered.
"If there's no heartbeat he can't be from Heaven. How can you tell he's not from down here?"
"Come on," he said dryly. "It's me."
I sunk my face into my hands and crouched on the floor. I didn't like unknown things. Call it paranoia from the movies we just watched, or the ominous warning in the letter...but I felt uneasy.
"His mother called him evil. That's underworld, Syn."
"I don't know," he said as he stood up. "I'll get formula and blood just in case. Watch him."
My eyes widened as he tried to pass him to me and I held my hands up. "Woahhhh chill, I'll go get the formula and blood."ย
Before he could say anything else I grabbed his keys off of the table and rushed out of the door. I distracted my mind as I walked down the dark halls but every time I stared at a dark corner for too long, I could make out the shape of a child. I knew it wasn't real but it was incredibly scary.
I rushed out of the palace and to the car and drove to the nearest pharmacy. Less than forty-five minutes later, I was back in the palace with a bag of baby bottles, formula, and a couple of bags of blood.
I made the walk back to my bedroom, but when I opened the door, I froze. Syn wasn't in the bed anymore, it was just the baby...or rather "Evil". He was sitting up alone in the bed and my eyes widened as I watched him watch me with a blank stare.
Gone was the smiling child from before and my blood ran cold. It's just a baby. If it's evil, you can fight it.
With that thought in mind, I walked towards the bed and placed the bag down. I emptied the contents down all the while glancing at the small child who hadn't taken his eyes off of me.
I slowly turned to him completely and crouched on the floor to be at his eye level. There was something off about him...I just couldn't exactly pinpoint what it was.
I eyed him and he stared at me. After a few moments, I pointed a finger at him. "Are you going to kill us?"
"No."
I screamed in my spot and immediately backed up to the farthest corner of my room at the sound of the deep voice. The baby gave me a care-free smile and I looked at it in complete fear.
Syn came out of the restroom in my room and he walked to the baby and picked it up. It giggled in his arms like it did before and I stood paralyzed in my spot. I didn't move until I felt a tear roll down my cheek and I immediately wiped it.
Syn's eyes moved to me and concern filled his features. "What's wrong?"
"Syn, it just talked. And its voice was deep as fuck," I ranted. "I don't know what that is but it's gotta go. Take it to Hell, do what needs to be done but get it the fuck out of here."
"Queen, I understand you not wanting kids but don't be so heartless. It's a child."
"THAT is not a child," I snapped.
"Relax," he said with a scoff. "I know it's scary because of what happened to his mother but you can't take it out on him."
"Syn, I am not doing this. I am packing my shit and I'm about to go," I said as I walked to my closet.
"What the hell?" He snapped. "Where are you going? You said we'd wait until we have the files."
"Syn! The baby talked to me! What baby do you know talks at four months?!"
"Maybe you just heard something. Your mind may be conjuring up all your parano-"
"Don't fucking say conjuring when we're talking about an evil baby," I seethed.
"You need to stop," he said in a gravely low voice.
"No, you need to stop," I argued. "I am the fucking Queen of Hell and I'm ready to get on my knees and pray to God that we don't get murdered. That says something."
"It says that you're insane," he whispered.
"Syn, you know I love you more than anything. It should tell you something that I'm about to leave you over this."
He looked at me for a long moment before turning back to the baby. "Are you going to say something to me too?"
The baby just continued smiling up at him and he shrugged before turning back to me. "Let's just wait for the files."
I nodded slowly as I wrapped my arms around myself and stared down at my shoes. "You go, I'm going to wait in here."
"You want to stay in the closet?" He asked.
"Yes." It's better than being out there, that's for sure.
He scoffed and shook his head. "Suit yourself."
I sat down on the carpeted floor and soon as he left and tried to control myself. Maybe my reaction was overboard but how else would someone react?
His mother warned us about her being evil and now the thing was speaking to me? I think the fuck not. I wasn't about to be the crazy woman like in these damn movies. I would throw that baby in the fiery pits of hell before any of that were to happen.
I don't know how long I sat on the floor but it was until my bottom hurt, so I stood up. I opened the closet door slowly to see Syn sitting at the table and I walked towards him. I glanced at the bed to see the baby sleeping to I slightly relaxed.
The table was full of papers and he rubbed his face before looking up at me. He looked stressed if anything and I frowned at him. "What?"
"Anita, the woman..." he started as he picked up a book. "This is her journal. There are hundreds of messy entries on the baby."
"What'd they say?"
"Just what you said, that she heard the baby talking to her and..." he trailed off as he sighed and closed his eyes.
"And what?"
"Her hospital records say she was confined by herself at the time she got pregnant. There was no trace of semen found in her and no other DNA besides hers in the baby. She was a virgin."
"Like Mary?" I asked in shock.
"Yup."
"But we already have a Jesus..."
Syn nodded slowly and opened the journal. When he got to a specific page, he slid the book to me and I picked it up. What I saw wasn't a journal entry at all it was two sentences written in what looked like blood.
Forgive me, father for I have sinned, I have brought into existence the destruction of all mankind.
"What does this mean?" I whispered as I flipped through the pages for anything.
"Think, Princess," he said. "Miraculous birth, apparently evil behavior, not being any creature we know of...we learned about this in school. I just didn't think..."
I shook my head quickly as my eyes watered. "No..."
"I think so," he whispered.
"You're trying to tell me that the fucking anti-Christ is sleeping in my bed?"
"Yup," he said.
I covered my mouth and looked back at the baby in shock. "Fuck...kill it."
"I don't think we should," he whispered.
"Are you fucking serious? You know all the stories, Syn. We'd be doing the world a favor."
"That's what you said about Xavia," he argued.
"It's not the same thing."
"Isn't it? You're already calling him evil before we've given him a chance," he said. "Wasn't Xavia also a being that was supposed to ruin the world? What makes us any different from the Seers if we kill this baby?"
"Syn..."
"We're already in Hell. What is there to be afraid of?"
"You're really going to guilt me into keeping this baby alive," I whispered.
"I think I am."

Author's Note
Uh-uh baby, that ain't gon work...
I think this is one of the first times where I personally don't agree with Syn. I get what he's tryna say but if that baby talked to me in that deep ass voice...I'd kick it like a football.
The anti-Christ?!
Goodbye๐
Who do y'all think is right? Should they kill it...or should they keep it?
