The sun peaked through the trees and I yawned as I looked at the forest we were still in. We must've fallen asleep during the movie I played. I turned to Queen and found her still sleeping and I smiled. She looked peaceful...absolutely carefree.
The last time I watched her sleep like this I went into her mind and her reaction...wasn't the best. So that wasn't something I'd be doing any time soon. I moved her stray hairs behind her ear and she stirred in her sleep. The blanket fell off of her naked body and I ignored the way my body reacted and lifted it over her shoulders again.
We had a week for the public's image of us began to matter and we needed to start going out more frequently. Yesterday was the calm before the storm for us. I pulled out my phone to go to our social media account and was taken aback by the high spike in additional followers.
We still hadn't posted anything and it was strange to me how many people just followed our...username. Seeing as we needed to post I moved to the camera and held it out in front of me. I hated pictures but this was a necessary evil. The more people thought we were like them, the chances are they'd love us more.
Show them a side of you they've never seen before.
I took a deep breath and began taken selfies of me with a sleeping Queen behind me. I did different poses and types of pictures and even let myself smile in a couple of them. When I was done, I sent them to my mother and asked her which one I should post.
She responded almost immediately and I was shocked.
Mother: ALL OF THEMMM AHGHJSJHSHAGAHAHAHWHAHAHAHA!!! THIS IS MY HOME SCREEN NOW! The third one is my freaking favorite ❤️
The third picture she was referring to was one where I had Queen's arm draped over my shoulder and I was making some funny face. I didn't know why it was her favorite considering I looked ridiculous. I did admittedly have fun taking it though.
I put all five of the pictures I took under one post and everything was going well until I had to come up with a caption. I laid down and thought for a long time until I just put an emoji of a black heart and called it a day. The likes and comments almost immediately rolled in and I turned off my notifications again.
We needed to start getting ready to leave. After my mother's advice, I had dates planned for the next few days. If we wanted to make it to the one today, we needed to get out of here.
I let her sleep a while longer as I got dressed and put all the stuff back into the car. When I was done and there was nothing else to put away, I moved back to the bed and kissed her forehead. "Wake up, Princess. I'm taking you to get breakfast."
Her eyes fluttered open and when she looked at me she smiled. I looked at her suspiciously since she was usually a grumpy person when she woke up but she wrapped her around me and pulled me into a hug.
"What's wrong with you?" I asked into her neck.
"I'm happy."
"Hmm," I hummed as I pulled away. "If this is all it took to get you into a good mood, I would've done it a long time ago."
She laughed and got up from the bed gracefully and my eyes landed on her naked body. She touched my face and smiled down at me for walking past me and to the car. My eyes followed her until I snapped myself out of my thoughts and got up.
I packed up all the blankets and pillows into the car and made sure we were leaving nothing behind. Satisfied that I got everything, I walked to the passenger side of the car where Queen was getting dressed.
She was wearing a white sundress and she smiled up at me as she tied her hair into a messy bun. "You good?"
"I'm good," I said.
"Love you," she said happily.
"I don't like that."
She laughed softly before wrapping her arms around me and looking up at me. "I more than love you."
"I know." I opened the car door for her and she rolled her eyes at me before getting in. "I more than more than love you."
"You just had to one-up me," she said with a sigh.
"Always."
The drive back to the palace was a quiet one as we listened to music and relaxed. For once, it felt like everything was as going right for us. There was no looming danger and we weren't broken up. We were just...us.
I held my hand out between us for her to take it and she smiled at me before placing her hand in mine. As we neared the palace, a small bit of nervousness came back but I buried it and parked the car.
"We're together," I said as I looked at her.
"Yes we are," she said.
"Forever?" I asked as I held out my pinky.
She smiled and nodded before wrapping hers around mine and kissing my thumb. "Forever."
I kissed hers and as I pulled away, I looked into her eyes. "Don't break my heart, Princess."
"Don't break mine, Syn."
I shot her a wink before opening the car door and walking out. Like always, she opened hers herself before I could and I gave her an annoyed look. "I'm sorry, it's years of habit. Do you want me to get back in?"
"Yes."
"Wait, seriously?" She groaned.
"Get back in the car," I commanded as I opened it.
She got in as I said and I closed the door behind her. I walked around the car once and she laughed when I came back to her door. I opened it and she stepped out elegantly before nodding.
"Thank you, servant," she mocked in Xyla's voice.
"O-oh, y-you're welcome, your h-h-highness," I stuttered severely as I quickly bowed.
Queen burst out into laughter as she walked past me and I closed the door. We walked to the trunk and removed the bags we needed right now and left everything else. Queen put her duffel bag over her shoulder and I took it from her.
"You're already carrying a lot, Syn." She frowned at me and I closed the trunk and began walking to the palace.
"I got it," I mumbled. I walked with ease up the steps and Queen followed close behind me.
There was a commotion at the top of the steps to the palace and when I looked up. My eyes widened as I saw Lilith standing in front of the guards and I dropped the things I was holding. I looked towards Queen whose steps had slowed and I held my hand out for her.
Whatever reason she was here, was one Queen and I needed to deal with together. I didn't know what I expected but I was beyond surprised when Queen took my hand in hers.
We walked up the steps together and I clenched my jaw as I looked at the woman that was responsible for destroying our life and taking our daughter from us.
"What are you doing here?" Queen snapped.
"I just wanted to check on you," Lilith said. "I heard about what happened and I- I couldn't stay hidden."
"You're responsible for what happened!" Queen yelled. I squeezed her hand to support her and she took a deep breath. "You have some fucking nerve coming here."
"I know," Lilith whispered as she glanced at our clasped hands. "But I had no idea Sebastian would..."
Queen ran her hand down her face and looked up at me. "Syn, you know her personally...but Lilith is my mother."
"He knows," Lilith said. "You REMEMBER that, don't you Syn?" She asked as she heavily pronounced 'remember'.
Her words and the ways her eyes were shimmering with mischief made me realize that the good place Queen and I had finally come to, was about to blow up.
"What are you talking about?" Queen asked in irritation.
"The month that he was gone," Lilith said. "I bet he hasn't told you that he has his memories back."
"What?" Queen whispered in shock as she looked between us. I closed my eyes and prepared for the inevitable and remained quiet. Lilith wasn't done. She was going to tell everything.
"He traveled to Eden and ate an apple to get his memories back," she said. "He also killed your dear mother, Zara." I shook my head silently and waited for the rest to come.
"Syn, is it true?" Queen asked. I could hear the pain in her voice and it made my chest cave in. I opened my eyes to see her looking at me with watery eyes and I nodded slowly.
"There's more," Lilith said with a laugh. "Bezy, that monstrous thing of yours...he died."
Queen shook her head. "He's inside."
"He died in Heaven. He was revived with a deal, but he died. Syn let him die," she said as she pointed at me.
I expected Queen to turn to me and cuss me out but she didn't. Her hand remained in mine and she looked at her mother in disgust. A tear streamed down her cheek and she shook her head.
"You couldn't at least pretend to change," she whispered. "You're still up to your same tricks. Still here, trying to break us up by telling me all of this."
"No, I-"
"I've grown up, Lilith," Queen spat. "I'm not as naive as I used to be."
"I'm telling you the truth," Lilith said. "He remembers. Everything I've told you is true."
"I know," Queen whispered. "I know you're telling the truth. But you made a mistake in coming here. Guards!" The guards quickly came when she called and Queen pointed to her. "Send her to the torture chamber. Have someone watch her for a few days until I come down there."
"Yes, your highness," they said as they grabbed her arms.
"No! Let go of me!" Lilith screamed as they dragged her away. "I'll kill you!" We watched her until she faded away into the distance and I turned back to Queen to see her staring down at the floor.
"Are you going to kill her?" I asked.
"Soon, yes," she whispered. "Right now, I need to keep her alive so I can find a way to help Dimitri."
We remained silent for a few moments and I looked at our still intertwined hands before looking back up to her. "Queen I-"
"Don't," she whispered weakly as tears streamed down her face. "I don't want to hear it...I just-... I don't care. I'm not going to ask how Bezy is alive right now, all that matters is that he's okay."
I took a deep breath as I waited for her to change her topic to me and I mentally prepared for her to be done with me once again.
"I'm not going to ask why you can't tell me about that month and I don't care that you killed my mother. I would question why you didn't tell me you have your memories but I'm guessing it has something to do with what happened."
"I'm sorry you had to find out this way," I said.
"You remember," she cried. "Everything?"
"I remember everything."
She removed my hand from hers to sob into her hands and I didn't know what to do. I wanted to comfort her but I didn't want to interfere.
I had to accept that this could be the end of us.
I deserved whatever anger she was about to direct towards me and I opened my mouth to tell her just that but she threw herself into my arms. I stumbled backward in a mix of shock and surprise but I held her as she cried.
She pulled away and looked up at me as she cupped my cheeks. "I've missed you like crazy."
