"I go out," Bezy said as he pointed to the door leading to the outside field. I learned he had a habit of wanting to play with the fairies outside and I tried my best not to interfere. He'd spend hours with them if he had the chance.
"Go ahead," I said as I looked back down at my phone. He cheered loudly before leaving the palace and running to the field.
I'd been waiting for Queen to get ready so I could take her out but she was taking forever. I looked through the social media account we created a few hours ago and rolled my eyes at the number of notifications we were getting. We were already over one hundred thousand followers and we hadn't posted anything.
My phone began ringing in my hand and my father's contact flashed across the screen. I answered it expecting to hear my father but I heard a small voice and immediately recognized it as James.
"Hey," I said. "How are you?"
"I'm okay," he said. "I just wanted to say hi."
"I tried coming to see you a few times," I said honestly. "I was told you didn't want to see me?"
"Yeah," he said in a small voice.
"Why?"
"I don't want to be sad if you die again."
I was stunned into silence at his words and I pinched the bridge of my nose. That explained all of his strange behavior in the past few weeks. He hardly talked to me after the day I came back and whenever I tried to approach him, he left.
"I'm not going to die again," I said.
"Can you promise?"
"No," I said. "But nobody can promise. You want to spend time with the people you love whenever you can so just in case something happens, you have those memories."
"I know."
"If I died you'd be sad anyway, so why not be sad with memories of me you can have?"
"You're right," he said. "Can you take me to school on Monday? It's my first day at a new one."
"Sure," I said. "Can I ask you something?"
"Yes."
"You called me before I convinced you to stop avoiding me. What made you do it?"
"Oh, someone wanted to hear your voice," he said.
"Who?"
"Umm," he said nervously. "Me- I umm, I wanted to hear it. I miss you."
"Miss you too. I'll see you soon."
"Okay, bye." He hung up the call before I could say anything else and I moved my phone away from my ear slowly. He was still acting strange but that would have to be something I investigated when I went to go see him.
Queen walked down the stairs and my eyes moved to her. She skipped down the stairs and her hair bounced wildly on her shoulders until she made it to me. "I'm ready!"
"Damn," I said as my eyes fell on the outfit she chose. She wore a red bikini underneath a nude long sleeve mini dress and before I could get any more lost in her outfit, she pushed a duffel bag against my chest.
"Stop staring," she whined. "Where's Bezy?"
"He's outside," I said.
"I'll be right back, I'm going to tell the servants and fairies to keep an eye on him."
"Okay," I whispered.
She turned away from me to head outside and my eyes traveled to her backside. I didn't know what it was about her that just turned me into some horny teenager.
After a few minutes, she came back and clapped her hands together. "We can go now."
I held my hand out for her and we headed out to the car. The way to the lake was one that I knew well. When I was younger I spent a lot of time there when I wanted to be alone. The only few people that knew about it were Xavier and a couple of his exes.
That was how the rumors about it started. Since Xavier and I were the only ones who could find the lake, people who heard about it and came to try to see it their own, wouldn't be able to find it.
"We're not swimming, right?" She asked as she played with my hand on her lap.
"Of course we are," I answered.
"Hmm, okay," she said. She turned to look out the window and I quickly glanced at her.
"Why?"
"Just checking."
I studied her longer and thought about her words to see if I could figure out what she meant. I thought about our past together and a few moments later, a realization hit me and I turned to her.
"You can't swim."
"Not at all," she replied.
I sighed and shook my head. "You should've told me when I suggested it. We could've gone somewhere else."
"You seemed really excited and I wanted to see it," she said quietly.
"Well," I said. "I'll just have to teach you how to swim."
"Yay..." she said unenthusiastically. She pressed the button to turn on the radio and music began flooding the car. I laughed as she began singing the song that was playing and she ignored me and continued.
"For my talent in the competition, I should sing," she said over the music.
"Sure," I said. "If you want to lose."
She gripped my shoulder as a high note came in on the song and I groaned in pain. After a few more minutes, I drove through the dark and long winding road leading to the forest and Queen turned down the music.
"When did you make the lake?"
"When I was fourteen."
"Why?"
"I was bored."
As we neared the colorful waters, Queen's eyes widened as she sat up in her seat. "Oh. My. God."
"Excuse you," I said lowly.
"Sorry," she whispered as she stared at the area.
Besides my daughter, I'd say this place was one of the most beautiful things I'd ever created. The forest surrounding the lake was decorated in bright golden lights on the trees and occasional lanterns.
It was amazing to look at but the highlight of the area was the lake itself that was an ever-changing color show. It looked like there were colored lights in it but there were none. I just used Hell's energy to fuel it.
I parked the car a short distance from the lake and got out of the car. Queen got out before I could open the door for her and I rolled my eyes and walked to the trunk. I pulled out the multiple blankets and pillows I had brought and led them to the grassy area in front of the lake.
Queen occupied herself with crouching by the water and touching it and I smiled in her direction. "Woah," she whispered again for the sixth time.
I set up the area how I wanted to and set the basket of snacks down beside the makeshift bed. The best thing about this past was that nobody besides us would be able to find this place meaning we wouldn't be interrupted. Also meaning, we could do whatever we wanted.
I had spent the last few hours planning out this date so I knew exactly what I wanted to do and brought everything I needed to woo her. I set my laptop down on the blankets and pulled out the speaker from my bag and turned on a random song.
I'd never brought anybody here before. It was a place I liked to be alone in for my comfort but it didn't feel intrusive for her to be here. I wanted her in my personal space.
Queen slightly moved to the music as she continued distracting herself with the water. With her busy, I took my chance to go to the car and get the bouquet of black and red roses I made specifically for her.
I approached her and she looked over her shoulder as I got closer. A slow smile spread across her face as she looked at the flowers and then back to me. "Those are for me?"
"No, I like getting roses for myself," I said sarcastically.
She bit her lip as she stood up and I held them out for her. She moved to get them but immediately stopped and dropped her hands. "They're beautiful, but I can't."
"Why?"
"Flowers die when I touch them, I know you don't remember bu-"
"I know," I said. "Because of Lucifer's abilities."
"How'd you know?"
"He told me," I lied. Well, technically it wasn't a lie. He did tell both of us in the past.
"Oh, I see."
"These are specially made for you," I said. "In the month I was gone, I worked on a spell to make flowers that wouldn't do that."
She beamed up at me and held her hands behind her back. "You actually spent time doing that?"
I shrugged and she slowly reached out for the flowers. I moved them into her hands and let go and she froze for a few minutes to see what would happen. When the flowers still lived, she cheered and sniffed them.
"Thank youuuu!" She said excitedly. "I love them."
"You're welcome, Princess."
She smiled and her eyes moved to the area I set up for us on the grassy field and she raised her brows.
"You don't like it?" I asked.
"I-It's amazing," she laughed. "You're making it hard for me to want to take things slow."
"Do what you want, Princess."
