Cleo

I paced my bedroom as I looked down at the pregnancy test on the best. I thought my period was skipping because of my birth control but I'd been throwing up so much. I wanted to deny the fact that I could be pregnant but as the days passed, it became harder to deny.

I looked around the empty room and then back down at the unopened box and ran a hand through my hair. This can't be happening. I didn't remember fucking up my pills.

My anxiety began to claw at my chest and I sat down. I talked to Xavier and Cas about children before and we all decided we would wait a few years since we were so busy. I was still stripping with no intent to retire just yet, and the boys were traveling and occupied with the clubs. None of us were ready yet.

Maybe you're not pregnant.

The thought in my mind made me burst out into tears because there was no way I wasn't. No matter if I didn't take the pregnancy test or not, the possibility was more than likely.

I needed to take it but I couldn't do it alone. I didn't want Queen and Mia knowing just yet so there was only one other person I could think of to stay with me.
I rushed to my phone and went to their contact to call them.

The ringing against my ear ensued as I waited for them to answer and I tapped my door impatiently. "Come on," I groaned.

"Hello," the groggy voice spoke.

"Hi," I said cheerfully. "Can you come to my room, please?"

"It's 6 am," he said tiredly.

"Please," I begged.

The phone hung up quickly and my mouth dropped as I was taken aback by the rudeness. I moved to dial their number again until a knock sounded at my door. I let out a breath of relief as I scurried to it and welcomed my irritated guest.

"What?" Syn said dryly as he walked into the room.

I closed the door behind him and he sat down at the edge of my bed and yawned as he looked at me blankly. "Thank you so much for coming," I said.

"You're Queen's best friend, I didn't think I had a choice," he muttered.

"Hey! Aren't we friends too?" I asked.

"Eh."

I rolled my eyes and shook my head. "Anyways, I think I'm pregnant," I said with a grimace. I waited for a reaction but his eyes were glazed over as he looked in my direction in boredom. "Syn," I called as I snapped my fingers in his face.

He blinked a few times and looked back up at me. "What?"

"Did you just fall asleep with your eyes open?" I asked. "I hope that's not a frequent thing because that shit is terrifying."

He chuckled lowly as he pulled his hoodie over his head and I shook my head again. "Please pay attention, this is important."

"I'm attention," he said.

"What?" I asked.

"Paying," he corrected seriously with a lazy nod. "I'm paying attention."

"I think I'm pregnant."

A slow smile spread across his lips and he clapped his hands together in applause. "Yay."

"Not yay," I said as I shook my head.

"Yes yay," he teased. "I'm going to be a godfather."

"You won't be a godfather if I kill you," I threatened. His smile immediately dropped and I nodded proudly at myself. Drunk or sleepy Syn always seemed to be less threatening than sober him.

"Now listen to me," I said. "I'm going to take the pregnancy test, okay?"

"Okay," he said as he stretched.

"Wait here, please."

"Mhm," he hummed as he laid back. As soon as his head hit the bed he fell asleep once again and I rolled my eyes. I'd just have to wake him up when I was done.

I went to the restroom and closed the door behind me. I placed the box down at the counter and stared at it for five minutes before I nodded and gathered the strength to take it. Let's do this.

When I finished, I placed the test on the counter and left the room. It was supposed to take three minutes for results but this felt like an eternity. I paced the area in my bedroom in anticipation and Syn groaned from my bed.

"Stop walking," he groaned. "I can't sleep."

"You're not supposed to be sleeping," I whined. "You're supposed to be supporting me and telling me that my relationship will survive this."

"Why the hell...of all people, would you call me for that?" He asked as he lifted his head and looked at me blankly.

"I wasn't ready to tell Queen or Mia, and Cain isn't here. Besides, you are Xavier's best friend."

"Am I?" He asked dryly.

"Yes."

"He's barely talked to me since I've been back, Cleo. I also know that he agreed to keep me in the dark about Queen."

"Caspian told you, didn't he?" I asked as I rubbed my temple.

"He seemed to be the only person honest with me when I got back," Syn said.

"I'm sorry I didn't tell you, it's just that-"

"You thought it was best for Queen," he continued for me. "I understand that."

"Then you should understand that Xavier thought it was best for you," I insisted.

"No, that's the thing. Xavier knows me better than anyone and he knows that keeping Queen a secret from me was the opposite of the best for me. He did it for himself, not me. And that's not the Xavier I know."

"Maybe he didn't want to lose you," I argued back. "Xavier was a wreck after you died Syn. He would drink all day and when he would sleep he'd have nightmares. He worked himself to the bone to find a way to bring you back."

Syn closed his eyes and nodded slowly. "Then why is it now that I'm back he's avoiding me?" When I couldn't give him answer he looked back up at me and sighed. "It's because of guilt, Cleo. He knows that I know what he did."

I wanted to defend Xavier but I knew Syn was right. Xavier wasn't selfish though, he just didn't want to lose his friend again.

"He's changed, and I'm afraid I don't know who he is anymore," Syn said.

I ran my hands through my hair in frustration and closed my eyes. "So you don't want to be friends with him anymore?"

"That's not what I said. I said he's changed," he said. "I may not know who he's become but he's still my best friend."

I smiled and silently relaxed as I realized I may have misunderstood the situation. I was thinking that I was going to have to go through another era of Xavier losing Syn.

"He's the same, trust me. He's just been through a lot without you," I said. "Him agreeing to Lucifer's idea was just him being scared."

Syn nodded. "Tell him to stop avoiding me. I miss him a little bit...don't tell him I said that."

"Will you forgive him though?" I asked hopefully.

"That depends," he said with a shrug.

"On what?"

"The results of the pregnancy test."

"How..." I asked in mild bewilderment.

"If you're not pregnant, I can stay mad a little bit longer. If you are, then I need to prepare for my godfather duties and get over it," he said with a smile.

"What if it's Caspian's?" I asked.

"If it's Caspian's, it's still Xavier's and I'm still the godfather," he said simply.

"What if Caspian doesn't want you as the godfather?" I offered.

"Cleo...why do you insist on ruining my dreams?" He asked seriously.

I laughed at his flat tone and shook my head. I had no doubt that if I was pregnant, Xavier and Cas would both agree that Syn would be the godfather to the baby. I walked to the restroom and closed my eyes as I picked it up. I squinted as I walked back in front of Syn and I took a deep breath.

"I want you to look at it first," I said quickly. "I feel like it'll soften the blow."

"Okay," he said.

With my eyes closed, I held the test up in his direction and waited for his reaction. When he didn't answer I peeked my eye open and looked at him.

"What is it?" I asked.

"You're not pregnant," he said.

"Oh," I said as my heart slightly fell.

My hand dropped to my side and I swallowed the breath that caught in my throat. I had been thinking about the future we had if I was pregnant and I may have gotten excited even though I was scared.

Hearing that I wasn't pregnant made me a little bit sad even though I told myself I didn't want to be. I blinked back tears and took a deep breath as Syn watched me.

A few moments later, a deep chuckle came from him and I rolled my eyes at him. "What's funny?" I asked dryly. I wasn't in the mood to play around right now.

"I was joking," he said.

"What?" I asked.

"You're pregnant. I just wanted to see your reaction."

My eyes widened as I looked at the test and I screamed as I read "positive". I smacked him on the side of the head with my hand and he laughed softly.

"Why the fuck would you do that, Syn?"

"Because now you have to ask yourself why you were sad when you thought you weren't pregnant," he said as he stood up.

"Because I want it," I said slowly.

"Exactly, so stop freaking out."

I nodded and smiled as I thought about how I would tell Xavier and Cas. I was still incredibly nervous to tell them but Syn's little "joke" relieved a little bit of tension.

"Ouch!" I said as Syn flicked my forehead. "Why'd you do that?"

"You weren't listening to me," he muttered.

"What did you say?" I asked in an annoyed tone as he rubbed the area he hurt.

"I said to take care of my godchild," he said as a sour look appeared on his face. "I don't think I like that word."

"What word?"

"Godchild...it sounds gross now."

"Well, what do you want to call it, if not that?" I asked.

He thought for a moment before nodding slowly and looking at me. "Devil-child sounds better."

"It really doesn't but whatever floats your boat," I said with a fake sweet voice.

"That floats my boat," he said slowly as he walked past me and to the door. "Take care of the child, Cleo. I have plans for it."

"What plans?" I asked as I turned to him.

"I don't know," he said with a shrug. "To hold it, I guess. I've never held a baby before. At least not in real life."

"Where have you held one, if not real life?" I asked in confusion.

"In my dreams," he said with a small smile.

I didn't know what he meant but I still felt sad for him. He must've had a dream of his child. Her death hurt me so I couldn't imagine how horrible he held.

"If everything goes well, you can hold it all you like," I promised.

He nodded and a smile appeared on his face. "I'd appreciate that." I smiled back at him and he opened the door to leave. My eyes widened as I remembered something else and I called out to him.

"Yes?" He answered.

"Can you not tell anyone yet?" I begged.

He closed his eyes and softly banged his head against the doorframe. "So many secrets," he muttered.

"What?"

"Nothing. I won't say anything." He quickly closed the door behind him and I looked down at the test again happily.

This is a good thing.

I just needed to figure out a way to break the news to my men.
