He went back to reading the book and I glanced at the book to see what page he was on. He caught me trying to look and he sighed as he opened his arm for me.
I shook my head to decline and looked away from him. "No, I-"
"You can be mad at me later, just give in for a few minutes," he said seriously. I pondered his offer and hesitantly moved closer to him and laid my head on his chest. He wrapped his arm around me to hold the book and I closed my eyes as he cleared his throat.
"You hurt me, Alexander-"
"Are you reading out loud?" I groaned as I relaxed into his hold and wrapped my arm and leg around him.
"Shhh," he said. " 'You hurt me, Alexander. No one else but you has the power to raise me to the edge of the Heavens and crush me into the depths of Hell within the same second,' I cried as I stared into his icy blue eyes. The same eyes that had struck my soul when we first met. The same eyes that had pierced through my boundaries and invited his evil into my heart.
'Eliza, this is who I am. I hurt you because I canโbecause I know no other way to show you how I feel about you,' he said. 'I made a mistake, you can't leave me." I shook my head as my heart ached with all the memories of us. Who would've known that the person you loved the most in the world could destroy you the most?
'Do you love her?' I asked him. He gave me a pained expression and shook his head. 'How could you think that?'... 'Because you won't let her go, Alexander!' His face became stoic at the tone of my voice and I turned my back to him. 'I can't be with you until you let her go. You can't have her and claim you love me.'
I walked towards the door to leave and paid no mind to the splintering in my chest. I should've known this would hurt. This is the punishment that came with loving Alexander D'aureville. I knew that when I met him, I knew it when I fell in love with him, and I knew it as I paid the consequences now.
'Je te tuerai avant de te laisser me quitter,' he spoke lowly. An eeriness floated throughout the room and I froze before I could open the door. 'What does that mean, Alexander?' I heard his slow footsteps come closer to me but he didn't answer. I turned in my spot and jumped as I saw his blue eyes staring down at me.
The moonlight cast a chilling tone of colors onto his beautiful skin that made him look terrifying. 'What did that mean?' I asked more sternly. 'I said, I'll kill you, before I let you leave me, Eliza.' I got a peek of his sharp extended fangs behind his full pink lips and my eyes watered.
This wasn't the first time I heard one of his threats. Due to that fact, it was hard to take him seriously. Even if his words were true, perhaps death was better than the pain he was putting me through. Without a second thought, I turned my back to him and laid my hand on the cool doorknob. 'So be it.'
I twisted the knob and he slammed the door shut as his fangs sunk into my neck. His teeth tore relentlessly into my skin and I cried as he kept his promise. It was no longer a secret why so many of his previous subs had disappeared as this was the curse of falling in love with him.
I didn't fight death as it clawed itself around my soul and pulled it out of my weakening body. How sick was it of me to be joyous that it was his love of me that was pushing me towards the heavens yet again. My eyes fluttered closed and my last breath escaped my lips as I heard the words I'd been waiting to hear all this time. 'I love you, Eliza,' " Syn read.
My body shook as tears flowed down my cheeks and Syn placed the book down. "Why are you crying? That was a horrible ending."
"It was beautiful," I cried softly.
"He killed her," Syn said slowly.
"He loved her," I said as I sat up and wiped my tears. "He just didn't know how."
Syn gave me a confused look and raised a brow. "So he killed her..."
"She may come back as a vampire," I said. "We won't know until the next book."
"He still killed her."
"Why are you still on that?" I asked as I fanned my face. "There's beauty in that death, Syn. Before they met her life was horrible, and he saved her."
"That's not how I interpreted it," he said.
"What other way is there?"
"He bought her from a vampire sex slave trade and she got Stockholm Syndrome. He used her for sex and made it seem like it was her falling for him. When she finally came to her senses, he killed her. Not to mention all his other subs."
"Syn," I whispered as I looked at him. "Do you want me to kill you?"
He laughed and I shook my head. There was no reasoning with me when it came to defending my favorite fictional characters.
"Alexander is a good man, he just doesn't believe it. He bought her because she was being abused. He didn't pressure her or have sex with her until she was ready. She fell in love with him but he didn't know how to express himself so he lashed out."
"He cheated on her," Syn corrected.
"She ended things with him," I argued.
"Okay, so I can sleep with another woman since you've ended things."
"Sure," I said. "If you want to die." His eyes widened and he stifled a laugh but I was completely serious. "I'm not Eliza, Syn. I'll seriously murder you."
"Noted," he whispered.
"Anyways that was poetic. The same person that brought her back to life took it away. I believe he turned her purposely..."
"So that she'd be with him forever?" Syn whispered.
"Yes," I said excitedly that he was catching on.
"I understand that, as toxic as it sounds. It reminds me of me, in a way."
"With who?"
He shook his head and laughed softly. "Alexander is still fucked up."
"Okay no," I said. "We're going to talk until you get this through your damn head. He was in love with her from the moment he met her."
"He never said that until she was dead," Syn said with a smile.
"It was obvious."
"How so?" He asked teasingly.
"His actions," I answered.
"Oh from the spankings, making her watch him fuck other subs, cheating on her, or killing her?"
I groaned and laid back on the bed as I stared at the ceiling. "This must be a man thing," I said. "You just don't understand."
"Maybe it's because I'm a man that I do understand, Princess," he said as he laid down next to me.
"Enlighten me," I muttered.
"He didn't fall in love with her when they met," he said as he looked into my eyes. "He saw an innocent girlโa damsel in distress, and she became something he wanted to himself. As soon as he paid money for her, she became his possession and he took advantage of the fact that she thought he saved her."
I stared into his eyes as he explained it to me and I frowned. "She forgave all of his mistakes because she believed he didn't know how his actions affected her. But he knew. He knew that everything he did was hurting her but he just didn't care.
I'm sure he fell in love with her at some point after buying her but it wasn't real love. It was a love you have of something you own. When she was leaving it fractured his ego and he killed her."
"I disagree," I whispered. He raised a brow at me and I took a deep breath. "I'm sure some of the things you said are true but he didn't look at her as some item he owned. They both possessed one another equally. He killed her because he couldn't imagine a life where she was alive and not with him."
"Hmm, maybe that's a woman thing," Syn said.
"Maybe."
"Do you think she's going to be a vampire in the next book?" Syn asked.
"I hope so," I said. "I just wish I could've read it from his point of view because I'm way too in love with him."
"Seriously?"
"How could I not?" I asked humorously. "He never let her go no matter what. Tenacity is hot."
"Oh but when I do it it's not," he muttered sarcastically.
"Says who?"
