Mia
I stood on the balcony as the phone rang and went to voicemail again as it had when I called Cain for the past few weeks. I was supposed to be getting fucking married and here I was stalking because I was worried about his dumbass. I mean, he's my best friend. It'd be wrong to get married without him being here.
I walked back into the room and Cleo gave me a sympathetic look as she noticed the sad expression on mine. "He didn't answer?"
"Nope." I groaned and threw myself onto the bed face first and Cleo laughed as she hit me with a pillow.
"Relax, I bet he's fine," she insisted. "He did say he was going away for business, didn't he?"
I scoffed and perched myself up on my shoulders to look at her. "He doesn't have a business, Cleo."
"I mean he sorta does, with all the subs and stuff right?"
"Funny you should mention that. I went to his penthouse and they have a substitute. Cain hasn't been there all month."
"Okay, that's weird."
"Right?!"
"I think you're worried for other reasons too," Cleo teased.
"What do you mean?"
"You like him," she shrugged.
"Cain?"
"Yup."
"Queen's brother? The one who stalked me for three years? That one?"
"The exact one," she said with a giggle. "I'd go as far as to say you may be in love with him."
I burst out into laughter and Cleo twirled her blue hair between her fingers as she watched me with a smirk. Tears moved to my eyes from the laughter and I shook my head as I wiped my eyes.
"No, no. I love Jackson," I reminded her.
"There's nothing wrong with loving two boys at once," Cleo said.
"Well of course you'd say that," I joked. "Speaking of three ways though, how is the wedding planning going?"
"You're a little bit rocky at changing the subject but I'll let it slide since I like wedding talk," she said with a small laugh. "I want to ask Queen to be my maid of honor."
My ears perked up and I squealed in excitement as I sat up. "This is almost as exciting as an actual proposal."
"I know right?" She said cheerfully. "Also, I want you to know I love you just as much as Queen, I just—"
"Girl, you don't need to explain. This is your wedding. I'm not worried about that as long as you're happy," I said sincerely. "But I do get to be a bridesmaid, right?"
"Of course," she answered happily.
"Great, you get to be one in my wedding as well."
"Umm ma'am, who's going to be the maid of honor for your wedding?" She asked in amusement as she crossed her arms.
"Queen, duh," I answered. We both laughed and turned to the bedroom door when it creaked open.
"Are you guys gossiping about me?" Queen asked as she peeked her head into the room.
"Yes," Cleo sarcastically replied. "We're talking so much shit, you should just leave."
Queen grinned at us and walked into the room. She closed the door behind her and scurried to the bed before jumping on to it.
"How was Dimitri today?" I asked.
"He was the same, we watched a couple of movies. Nothing crazy," she said.
"That's good, I'll go visit him tomorrow."
She smiled at me and nodded. "I think he'd like that." Cleo looked between the both of us strangely and I looked up at her in question. "Am I intruding?" Queen asked nicely.
"You could never intrude," Cleo answered in a sweet tone. "We were just talking about weddings. Do y'all realize that the three of us are all engaged?"
"It's so weird," I admitted.
"Three besties all on the path to becoming wives," Cleo said in satisfaction.
"Don't say that," I laughed. "You make it sound so...contractual."
Cleo laughed at my words but it quickly died down when she turned to Queen who had her head buried in her arms. I nudged her with my hand and she looked up at both of us tiredly.
"What's wrong?" Cleo asked
"I'm not getting married," Queen said sadly. "At least not anytime soon."
"What? Why?" I pressed.
"Syn hasn't called me in an entire month. I'm not going to just jump to the aisle whenever he decides to show his..."
"His what?" Cleo asked as she wiggled her brows.
"His ugly face," Queen finished stubbornly.
"Girl, you know damn well that's not what you wanted to say. If he was here you'd probably be sitting on it," she said smugly.
"Cleo!" Queen and I groaned in sync.
"What? I'm being honest. You know you would."
"You're too much," Queen said.
"Are the two of you at least going to be in a relationship?" I asked.
"I don't think so. It's not even just the call. He took Bezy PLUS he has the audacity not to call. Bezy is like my son and Syn just took custody, without my permission and without letting me know where he is. I don't like how nervous and worried I am."
I laid my hand over hers and gave her a sympathetic look. "I'm sorry, sweetie. Guys can suck."
"So what you're saying is...when he does finally come home, you're not going to fuck?" Cleo asked.
"Seriously?" I asked in shock as I tried to hold back a laugh.
"Pfft, you're insane but no. I'm not going to 'fuck' him. I'm going to break up with him."
"Lies," Cleo yelled.
"I am," she insisted. "What he's doing is fucked up."
"You're going to see him and forgive everything. Trust."
"You think I'm that weak?" Queen asked in surprise.
"No, I don't think you're weak. But I do know you love him too much to leave him," Cleo said.
"Hmm, we'll see," she said. "Mia, you believe in me, right?"
"I'm this situation?" I asked.
"Yes."
"No." Her mouth dropped at my response and I shrugged. "I'm with Cleo on this one."
"You both will see," she said confidently. "Watch."
My phone vibrated in my hand and as Queen and Cleo got lost in a random conversation, I checked my notifications. I jumped from the bed when I saw a text message from Cain and the girls turned to me.
"What?" Queen asked.
"Cain texted me," I said in a freaked-out voice.
"That asshole hasn't answered my calls either," Queen muttered. "What does he want?"
"I'll check," I muttered. I opened his message and quickly read it to myself. "Shit," I whispered.
"What is it?" Cleo asked me.
"He said, 'We're home'."
"Who's we?" Queen asked.
Cleo scoffed and shook her head. "Who do you think?"
Queen got up from the bed angrily and stomped to the door. "Fucking assholes!"
Cleo and I glanced at one another before rushing after her. A loud thud made me turned back to Cleo and I rushed to her side as she untangled the bedsheets from her feet.
"You need to be careful," I laughed.
"Bitch, I'm excited," she exclaimed. "Vampire run us there. Come on."
"Don't call it that," I said humorously. I held her by her arm and sped out of her room. Within seconds we were in the foyer and my eyes landed on Syn, Cain, and Bezy. Queen wasn't here yet so I assumed she was still on her way.
"Ooooh, y'all in trouble," Cleo sang as she pointed to the boys.
"Me trouble?" Bezy asked. I was happy to see that he didn't change. The only thing different about him was his fresh haircut and new clothes.
"Not you," Cleo cooed as she walked to him for a hug.
I turned away from them to see Cain's eyes traveling down my body with a smirk played on his lips. Under his stare, I finally noticed how underdressed I was with just my shorts and t-shirt. I mean it was almost midnight, I wasn't prepared for his presence.
Not that it would matter what I wore in front of him.
Cain crossed his arms as he slowly walked over to me and I rolled my eyes. "Well, I've missed you." His hand reached out for mine but I took a step away and shook my head.
"You're fucking crazy if you think we're good."
"I am fucking crazy," he said smoothly.
I rolled my eyes at him again but he pulled me into a hug before I could react. My mind told me to fight against his strong arms but his familiar musky scent fucked with my mind. I unwillingly relaxed into his hold and his hand moved to my lower back.
"Tell me you missed me too," he whispered into my ear.
Finally gathering my strength from the arrogance in his voice, I laid my palms on his muscular chest and pushed him away. "I didn't miss you, at all."
"The hundreds of calls on my phone beg to differ."
"So you saw the calls," I mumbled.
"I saw them today when I came back to the underworld, yes," he said.
"So you weren't on a business trip."
"I don't have a business, Mia," he said slickly.
"I hate you," I said honestly.
"Good."
We all turned to the top of the stairs at the sound of Queen's rushed footsteps and I stepped away from Cain to prepare for her fury. She adjusted her mini dress as she quickly pattered down the stairs and her curly hair seemed to move with the same energy.
I moved away more when she walked to Cain and grabbed him by the ear and pulled him to her.
"Why the fuck didn't you answer my calls?"
"Ow, ow, ow I was busy!" Cain replied painfully. I crossed my arms and smiled at the pain he was in and he glared at me.
"You and I will talk later," she said to thin through gritted teeth as she roughly let him go. He held his hand over his ear to ease the pain and I laughed beside him.
"That's embarrassing," I whispered.
"Fuck off."
Everyone seemed to quiet down as Queen walked over to Syn's direction. We all must've known that all her anger this past month would come down on him like lightning.
She walked towards him quickly but instead of saying anything, she walked past him and purposely bumped shoulder with him before walking to Bezy.
"Queen!" He yelled as he picked her up and hugged her. She hugged him back tightly and when he set her down she smiled up at him.
"I've missed you so much! How are you?" She asked.
"I miss you. I good," he said happily with a yawn. Queen took his huge hand into her arms and rubbed it gently.
"Let me take you to your room to sleep, okay?"
"Okkayyy," he drawled out. Queen walked past Syn quietly again and led Bezy to the staircase.
"Do I get a hello?" Syn finally spoke up with a smile in her direction.
Queen stopped walking momentarily as if his words had struck her, but within the same second, she continued walking and completely ignored him.
"I'm in trouble, aren't I?" Syn asked.
I shook my head in his direction and clicked my tongue. "You're done for."
