Queen
My day was filled with countless meetings and phone calls like they usually were, but today was different. An emptiness was sitting at the pit of my stomach and I couldn't focus on anything. After Lucifer's news and request, I couldn't think about anything else, but my head would throb when I thought about Syn. It was a lose-lose situation but I'd deal with the headache for now.
I laid my head into my arms onto the desk and took deep breaths. My head lifted when I heard the door open and Mia walked in with two bags in her hands. "Hey girl," she said sympathetically as she set them down in front of me.
"Hey."
She pulled up a chair and sat across me. "I know today has been a long day for you with the whole Syn thing going on," she said as she opened the bags. "But food makes everything better."
I sat up and smiled at her. She wasn't wrong at all about that. "You're not dieting?" I asked.
"Not today," she said with a sigh. "You need an eating buddy and I-...since there are no other volunteers," she shrugged and looked around the empty office.
"If it's such a bother for you I think anyone else out there would want to eat Buffalo wings with the Queen," I joked.
"Well....eh."
We laughed and I shook my head as we dug in. After a few minutes of jokes and comfortable silence, Mia set her food down and laid her elbows on the table. She rested her chin on her hands and pursed her lips as she looked at me.
"What?" I asked as I covered my mouth.
"Are you going to be with Dimitri? Since Syn is...you know..." she insinuated.
"Umm." I slumped my shoulders and shrugged. "I have no idea about anything. Syn doesn't even remember me."
"Isn't there like some magic that you could do?" Mia asked sadly.
"The only thing I can think of is showing him my memories but you know I can't right now. I already agreed to Lucifer's plan," I said.
"I know but-, this is so sad to me."
"Me too," I said as my voice broke. I blinked to stop any tears from falling and I sniffled.
"Aww, nooo," Mia said as she got up. She rushed around the table to my side and hugged me. "Don't cry, everything will be okay."
"How do you know?" I asked as I wiped my tears.
"Well...I don't. But if it doesn't, I know a lot of therapists," she offered. I laughed and she pulled away and smiled down at me. "You'd be surprised how good therapy is."
"I just might have to take you up on that offer," I said.
She looked down at her watch and sighed. "It's almost seven, Dimitri will be here soon." I nodded and we cleaned up the food we ate. Dimitri insisted on picking me up whenever I came here for some reason. I thought it was weird but everyone told me I was overreacting and that it was sweet.
I grabbed my bags and items and headed out of my office. I waved goodbye to Mia who was the only one in the building and she smiled. "I'll see you on Friday. We have a busy day. And remember we're getting drinks on Friday night with Cleo!" She yelled. "Don't forget!"
"I won't forget," I said. I pressed on the elevator button and when it opened I was met with familiar blue eyes. Dimitri grinned down at me and held his hand out. I hesitantly took it and he pulled me into the elevator and against his chest.
"Hey baby," he said sweetly as he wrapped his arms around me.
"Hi," I said.
"How are you feeling?" He asked as he rubbed my back. "I tried seeing you after the meteor yesterday but your guards were adamant that no one could see you."
"It was a rough night," I admitted truthfully. Which it was, I found out my dead husband was back and he didn't remember me. How could I tell Dimitri that I spent the night crying about it?
"I hope you're feeling better now?" He asked as he pressed the elevator button.
No. "Yeah, I'm good."
"I can tell, you seem happier," he said as he took my hand into his again.
Did I? Happy was far from what I was so I didn't know how he was able to tell.
"Mhmm," I nodded.
The elevator doors opened and we walked towards the entrance of the building. "There's paparazzi again so make sure to smile for a few minutes, baby."
I nodded and plastered a smile onto my face as he opened the door. Before I dated Dimitri I was popular in the Underworld but the paparazzi wasn't this crazy. His being the heartthrob leader of the vampires here made them go insane when we started seeing one another.
We weren't even dating before magazines came out about us. The pressure from the media pushed us together so much that Dimitri ended up asking me out. I reluctantly agreed but I wasn't as in love with him as he claimed to be in me. I wasn't even sure I could love anyone romantically...anyone except-
"Your highness! When is the wedding?!"
"Will you two be having kids?"
"Smile over here!"
"Can we get an autograph?!"
The clicking and flashing of cameras were relentless and I couldn't see anything beyond the small crowd. The only thing leading my way was my hand in Dimitri's. He walked through them with ease with a smile on his face and I wondered how he did it. Maybe it was because he had years of dealing with it.
"Mr. Russo! When did you know you were in love?!" Someone yelled.
Dimitri stopped walking and looked down at me with a smile. "When I met her." The crowd swooned at his words and we continued walking until we reached his car. He opened the door for me and walked to the other side. The crowd of photographers surrounded the car and I frowned. I usually didn't mind them but today wasn't the best day for me.
Before I knew what was going on, Dimitri leaned over the seat and laid a kiss on my lips. I froze at the contact and the screams outside the car amplified. He pulled away from me with a smile and I cleared my throat. "What was that for?"
"Because I love you," he said as he started the car. He honked the horn and the crowd spread and he drove forward. The drive to the palace was silent and the long walk to my room was somehow quieter. "Can I ask you a question?" He asked as I opened the door to my room.
"Sure," I said. He walked in behind me and closed the door. And I sat at the edge of my bed and removed my heels weakly.
"Why do you still wear that necklace?" He asked.
"Excuse me?"
"The one on your neck," he said as he pointed to me.
My hand reached to it instinctively as it always did when I was nervous and I shrugged. "Umm, I don't know-... I just like it."
"Hmm," he said as he walked around my room. He moved to my dresser and opened it and set down velvet gift boxes on the dresser one by one. "...6...7...8...9," he said as he closed the drawer, crossed his arms, and turned back to me.
"Nine necklaces I have bought for you. New ones at that," he said. "Probably more expensive than the one you're wearing, yet you still wear that one. Why is that?"
I shook my head and sighed. This wasn't the first time Dimitri had this conversation with me. The necklace was one of the last things I had from Syn. It became a part of me over the years. An item that made me feel close to him even though he was gone. Getting rid of it meant giving up Syn to me, and I would never do that.
Not willingly.
"It's just important to me," I said.
He shook his head and looked off at the painting near my bed as he clicked his tongue. "I can't help but feel like it's because of Syn SinClaire."
My head snapped up to his. "Don't talk about him, please."
"Why not?" He said as he stalked towards me. "I'd like to know more about this infamous Syn SinClaire. The man who won my girl's heart. The man who managed to get him to marry her." He scoffed.
"Stop," I said.
"I mean the dude was fucked up! Yet somehow he got you," he said in disbelief as he lowered himself onto his knees in front of me. "Why does it seem like he hardly tried, yet I'm giving you everything in me and you-"
"He did," I interrupted as I stared off at the wall.
"He did what?"
"You said it seemed like he hardly tried. He did," I said and looked back at him. "You don't know him so I'd appreciate it if you never mention him again."
"Why are you just shutting me down?" He asked. "Aren't couples supposed to talk things through and discuss their feelings?"
"I'm tired, Dimitri," I said weakly.
He nodded and moved his hand off my lap. "I'm sorry about pushing you," he said. "I just-I don't want to lose you. But I feel like I'm losing to a dead man."
"I'm not some sort of competition, Dimitri." But if it was, Syn would always win.
He opened his mouth to say something but sighed in defeat. He shook his head and looked back at me with a tired expression. "You need to give him up, Queen. He's gone."
Even though he didn't know the complete truth about the words he said. He was right. The Syn I knew was gone. Lucifer's words repeated in my mind and I closed my eyes.
It's for the best.

Author's Note
Mmmm...yeah no. Bezy needs to come throw Dimitri out of a window or something...Jk we love our sexy god Dimitri😏
But this for real is a side to him we haven't seen...
I wonder why he picks up Queen from work everyday. Queen seems to think it's strange but hey, maybe he's just being a good boyfriend 👀.
We got to see Mia and she seems to be doing a lot better. I'm glad Queen has someone even if she did killed her, kidnapped her, tortured her😀. People change❤️.
