Queen
At my shock, a smile slowly spread across Syn's lips and a chuckle emerged from them. I looked at him wide-eyed for a few moments until I shook my head and realized what was going.
"Stop playing," I muttered.
"I'm not playing."
"Then why are you laughing?"
"Because you look terrified," he said.
I nervously looked around the empty patio and then back at him. Was he being serious right now? He hardly "met" me a few weeks ago and now he was proposing.
"Marry me," he repeated in amusement.
"Why?"
"You really asked me why," he said deadpanned.
"Yes."
He remained quiet and looked away from me before scoffing and standing up from his chair abruptly. He tossed a few bills onto the table and I looked up in confusion as he held a hand out for me.
"W-we haven't even eaten," I stuttered.
"That can wait," he countered impatiently.
I looked between the table and him but before I could make a decision he took my hand and practicality dragged me out of the restaurant.
"Syn, what the hell!"
He ignored me as we walked down the street and I rolled my eyes. I finally managed my pull my arm away from his grip and I glared at him. I was surprised to see that his anger was matching mine and he glanced behind me.
"Syn-,"
"Shut up," he ordered through gritted teeth.
My mouth dropped but before venom could be spewed out of my mouth, he grabbed my arm again and pulled me with him. I gasped as he picked me up and we sped through the street. I closed my eyes as I felt the cool wind on my face and I opened them when my feet were planted on the ground.
I looked around at the dark alley we were now in and I looked at Syn who was calmly leaning against the opposite wall.
"What was that for?" I snapped.
"We were being followed," he said.
"By who?"
"Some guy I saw earlier when we went out, I didn't think much of it until I saw him at the restaurant."
"What if it was a coincidence?"
"No such thing."
I shivered as I felt another breeze engulf me and I wrapped my arms around myself. Syn made long strides towards me and removed the jacket he was wearing to put it over my shoulders.
"I'm sorry," I whispered as I looked up at him.
He looked down at me and raised a brow. "For not answering my proposal or for fighting me?"
"The second one," I answered.
"You're fine," he said as he turned his back to me and walked away.
I followed a short distance behind him and watched his tall frame make long strides through the empty streets. "Are you mad at me?" I asked loudly.
He stopped walking and let me catch up with him before he wrapped an arm around my shoulders. "Why would I be mad at you?"
"Because I didn't answer you," I said.
At my words, he stopped walking and turned to look down at me. "Queen, I'm more than in love with you and I know you're one hundred percent the person I want to be with forever. You haven't seen me in over three years and I come back a person you don't know, I understand if you want to wait."
"I appreciate that, but that's not why I didn't answer."
"Then why?" He asked in confusion.
"Because you didn't ask. You said 'Marry me'," I mocked. "Next time ask."
With that, he smiled and took a step away from me. "What are you doing?" I asked as I looked around.
He dropped onto one knee swiftly and I took his hand to pull him up. "Syn, what if we're still being followed?"
"We're not," he whispered.
I relaxed a bit and he gently removed his hand from mine. "Queen..."
"Syn..."
"Let me continue."
I nodded and he took a deep breath. "This was a lot easier when I did it in my head...shit," he cussed. I laughed and he shook his head. "I more than love you so much that it's starting to hurt, Princess. I know we have a lot of shit we're going through right now but I know we can do it together. Please fucking marry me...again."
"That was really bad, Syn," I giggled.
"Ouch, I'm pouring my heart out here," he joked as he held a hand over his chest. I laughed again and he smirked up at me. "This shit is hard, Queen."
"Is it?"
"Very."
"Hmm, stand up. I want to try," I said excitedly.
He quickly shook his head and looked around. "Absolutely not. That's embarrassing."
"Are you saying that women-"
"Don't start. I'm standing up," he muttered. As soon as he was back on both feet. He crossed his arms and blew out an exasperated breath as I struggled to lower myself on my knee.
"Damn, what the fuck," I giggled as I almost fell to the floor. "This is hard in heels."
He shook his head and I smiled as I saw him try to hold back a grin. I cleared my throat and he glanced down at me. "Syn, will you marry me?"
"First of all," he started. "That was weak. Secondly, yes I'll marry you."
I cheered excitedly and Syn helped me rise to my feet. I quickly threw myself into his arms and he stumbled backward at the impact. I squealed in delight as he quickly spun me around and a moment later, he set me onto the ground.
I bit my lip and looked up at him, waiting for him to speak. Instead of doing that, his eyes moved to my lips. They lingered there for a few moments before he cleared his throat and kissed me on the forehead.
I frowned but it was quickly replaced with a smile when I remembered why he was being so cautious to me. I appreciated the patience more than anything but it was hard on me. I couldn't even imagine how it was for him.
He held me against him as we walked a short distance to the motorcycle. When we made it he hopped on and my eyes widened in remembrance as I looked at him. "We forgot the bears!"
"I'll get you new ones," he said.
"Can you get me new memories, too?" I questioned.
He sighed and passed me the helmet. "I'll circle back to the restaurant."
I quickly put the helmet on and sat behind him as my arms wrapped around his hard body. The cycle beneath us roared to life and I closed my eyes as he passed the familiar buildings we ran by.
After a couple of minutes, we arrived back at the restaurant and Syn got off the vehicle. I took the helmet off and he kissed the top of my head quickly. "I'll be right back if I'm-"
"If you're not back in two minutes, leave...I know," I repeated. He nodded and quickly turned towards the restaurant. Remembering the last time that he left me alone, I stayed on guard of my surrounding.
There was nothing unusual about the busy street but I felt uneasy, like someone was watching me. The feeling was a lingering one but I'd have to chalk it to my paranoia since I couldn't see anyone.
I counted down like I usually did but when I reached zero Syn still wasn't back. I know he told me to leave but I couldn't just yet. I gave him another few minutes but when he still wasn't out, I got off the motorcycle and walked into the restaurant.
I glanced at the hostess from earlier and gave her a small smile. "Hi, did you see the guy I just came in with?"
"Yes, he went to the patio," she said sweetly.
I gave her a quick thanks and walked to where she was instructed. Every step I took closer to the outside balcony felt heavy as an eerie feeling weighed me down.
When I finally made it, I looked around and saw the bears still on the floor but no sign of Syn. My heartbeat became faster as I thought about what that would mean. I looked around and became so entranced by his appearance that I jumped when I felt someone touch my shoulder.
I turned around to see Syn and I let out a large breath of relief as I wrapped my arms around him. When I pulled away I glared up at him and hit him on the chest.
"Ow, what was that for?" He winced as he touched the place I hit.
I wiped away the tears from earlier and held my finger up at him. "You were gone for like three minutes!"
"I needed to pee," he joked as he held his hands up. "Why didn't you leave?"
"I would never leave," I said quietly as I looked down at my feet.
"So you just tell me you will to make me feel better?" He asked.
"Yes."
He sighed and picked up the bears from the floor. "I just keep finding reasons to love you more."
"Shh, let's go," I said as I tried to stop a smile from spreading across my face. I headed back into the restaurant and Syn followed. I heard him groan behind me and I glanced over my shoulder in concern.
"Are you okay?" I asked.
"You look amazing in those jeans."
"Stop," I whispered as we walked past a couple of guests.
"You look better out of them, though," he added.
"Well they could be on the floor of my bedroom but you keep playing." I heard his breath catch from behind me and I laughed softly as we walked back to the motorcycle.
The ride back to the apartment was a quiet one, I almost fell asleep as I laid on Syn's back but once he parked, I suddenly felt more awake than I was before.
I yawned and stretched as we got off and Syn took the bears from my arms. "I'll carry these for you."
"Thank you, fiancé," I teased.
He laughed and we made our way into the building. We walked in a comfortable silence up the dimly lit stairs and as we neared my door, I noticed something off. I stopped walking and Syn looked at me in confusion.
"What is it?"
"The mat is three inches to the left of where it usually is," I said.
He glanced at it and turned back to me. "Maybe we moved it when we walked out earlier."
"No, I notice these things," I said in certainty.
Syn set the bears down and cautiously walked towards the door. "Stay here, I hear someone in there," he whispered.
I ignored him and he rolled his eyes as I followed close behind him. When we reached the front of the door, we saw it cracked open and I could hear the faint sound of classical music.
Syn gently pushed the door open and my eyes widened as I saw the back of a man facing a window in the apartment.
"Who are you?" Syn said in a dangerously low voice.
"A friend," he said as he turned around. I gasped and he gave me one of his usually charming smiles. "I've been waiting for you."
