Queen

Syn opened the door to the restaurant for me and I held the giant bears he won for me against my chest. "Thank you," I said.

I froze instinctively like I'd been doing all day when we were in contact with people and Syn held a hand at the small of my back. "Relax," he whispered into my ear.

I took a deep breath and relaxed as he led us to the hostess in the front of the restaurant. "Table for two," Syn said.

The woman smiled at us and I smiled back when I realized our disguises were working. She passed us two menus and gestured at a large dining area. "Sit anywhere you like, the patio is also open for dining if that's what you'd prefer."

"Thanks," Syn muttered. We walked away from the woman and he moved his arm around my shoulder and kissed my forehead. "Inside or outside?"

"Outside," I answered.

We walked past the scarce guests in the restaurant and out to the patio. I moved to get my chair to sit down but Syn slapped my hands away. "Ow," I pouted as I rubbed my hands.

He grinned down at me and pulled the chair for me. "There you go."

"You're sweet," I said. "But you're an asshole."

He laughed softly and sat in the chair across me. I set the bears down next to my leg and smiled. I didn't even know I could have as much fun as I did today. Even before Syn died we didn't date so this was an incredibly nice change.

He took me to a pier nearby and we played a bunch of games. More like me dragging him from game to game but he didn't protest. They were all fun but once we began playing a game, he couldn't lose. We would play and replay until he won something for me.

The game hosts were pretty annoyed every time he would do it but I thought it was the cutest thing ever.

"The last time we had a candlelit dinner, you tried to kill me with a salt shaker," he said as he sat back in his seat.

"That's an overreaction, I passed you the salt."

"You passed it to my face at one hundred miles per hour."

I laughed softly and he smiled at me. "You had fun today?"

"I had a blast," I admitted excitedly. "It was funny as hell when you were yelling at the Ferris wheel attendant to bring us down."

"I heard a screw fall out from...somewhere. I saved everyone on that machine," he said nonchalantly.

"Uh-huh."

"I just don't like them, I don't mind the heights but they're just weird."

I smiled and looked around the dimly lit area. We were the only two out here and it was intimate enough already without him looking at me the way he was. "Why are you looking at me like that?" I asked as I covered my face.

He moved my hand out of my face and held it in his as he leaned his arms onto the table. "Like what?"

"Like...that," I said as I circled my hand in front of his face.

"I can't look at my girl?"

"Ughh, my pussy," I mumbled lowly as butterflies flew across my body.

"What?"

"Ughh, my heart...you're being so sweet."

"That's what you said," he said with a smirk as he kissed my hand.

"Mhmm."

The door to the patio opened and a waitress walked over to us with a notepad in hand. "Can I start you off with drinks?"

"Umm..." my eyes skimmed the menu for a certain drink and I pursed my lips.

"I'll have a whiskey," Syn spoke up. "And she'll have a...strawberry lemonade."

My heart skipped a beat but my eyes remained on the menu. How did he know that? It was my favorite drink but he only knew it before he died. Was he remembering things?

"Okay, I'll be right back to take your orders."

"Thank you," he said. "Are you okay, Princess?"

I looked up at him and set the menu down slowly. "You ordered me a strawberry lemonade."

"Is that not what you want?" He asked. "I should've asked you but that time we met at the diner you ordered it so I thought-"

"Oh, you remembered from the diner a few weeks ago."

"Kind of," he said.

"What do you mean?"

"It felt instinct to say it, but after I thought about it my mind connected it to the diner so...I don't know," he answered.

"I see," I said. "It's my favorite."

"I'll remember that," he said with a smile. He took my hand on the table once again and randomly fidgeted with it between his large ones. "Tell me some of your other favorite things."

"Like what?"

"Favorite number."

"Seventy-two," I answered.

"Any significance?"

"It's a pretty number."

"Day of the week?" He asked.

"Umm...Thursday."

"Why?"

"It's like the door from boring days to fun ones," I said. My response must've been funny because he chucked and shook his head. "You?" I asked.

"I don't have a favorite day."

"How can you not?!"

"How can you?" He laughed. "Favorite ice cream?"

"Strawberry cheesecake," I said and bit a corner of my lip.

His face turned sour and he shook his head. "Ew, that's gross."

"Shut up," I said in defense. "You probably like mint or mint chocolate chip...some nasty shit like that."

He laughed out loud and covered his face with his hand. "I do, but in my defense it's the best flavor."

"A damn lie," I said in amusement and shook my head. We laughed together again and when it died down, he looked at me intently.

"Tell me about when we met," he requested quietly.

I looked away and sighed as I thought back that far. It wasn't something I forgot. How could I forget meeting the love of my life? It's just that after he died, it was always a painful memory to revisit.

"Well, I came to stay at the palace because you and Xyla were about to get married."

"I've been wondering how I didn't end up marrying her," he said humorously.

"Yes, call me Queen the home wrecker," I teased. "But umm yeah, I came to the palace and your mom and Julius kind of threw a party."

"Sounds like them."

"Definitely, but I remember coming in and you were like staring at me."

"Did I?" He asked.

"You were trying to be...discreet but I can feel when people are looking at me kind of. So whenever I looked at you, you would look away and so on. Then a little while later you went outside to get air and I followed you out."

"Why?"

"I don't know truthfully. I asked myself that for a while after. I just felt drawn to you in a way, probably because of the soulmate thing."

"Cas told me about that."

"Yup, I just wanted to be around you. My heart in a way was pushing me to you, but my mind was telling me to get the fuck away."

"I'm assuming you chose your heart," he said with a smirk.

"I tried not to. I mean, I followed you out and then you scared the hell out of me and forced me to sit down with you and talk," I ranted.

"Yet you stayed?" He questioned.

"I did."

"Were you happy with me, back then?"

"I was. The happiest I'd ever been." He nodded slowly at my answer and I ran my finger along the palm of his hand. "I'm happier now, though."

"Really?" His face lit up at my additional words and I smiled as I nodded. "I'm glad to hear that, weirdly enough."

"Why?"

"When you talk about who I was before I died, I know it was me but it feels like a different man that I'm in competition with...for you. You loved him, you married him and started a family with him. I don't feel like I'm that man, but I do know that I'm crazy about you," he admitted.

"I don't know that I'll ever be him again, Queen. So it makes me happy to hear that you're happy with the man I am at this very moment."

I stood up and grabbed Syn's face from across the table and pulled him in for a sensual kiss. He tensed at first but when he saw that I was okay, he gave in and our lips moved together in sync like they always did.

I sat back down when the patio entrance opened and I bit my lip as I looked at Syn. He looked dumbfounded as his eyes remained on mine and I peeped at the waitress nervously.

"Thank you," I said as she set the drinks down.

"Would you guys like appetizers or do you want to start-"

"What was that for?" Syn asked me.

I glanced at Syn and turned back to the waitress with an apologetic look. "Surprise us," I said quickly. She must've gotten the hint to leave because she smiled at us and walked away.

"What was what for?" I asked as I looked back at him.

"The kiss, what did it mean?"

"It meant that I want to be with who you are now and whoever you'll become. Even if you're never your old self again."

"Marry me," he said quickly. I looked up at him in shock and shook my head slowly.

"Huh?"
