Cain
"Hang him by his feet," I ordered my men. Two of them removed Dimitri from the sack he was in and attached him to the chains that were hanging in the abandoned warehouse. My men stood in a large circle around me as we looked at a knocked-out Dimitri.
I was thankful that they all came out to help me find the bastard this late at night. My rage towards him after what Mia told me, was uncontainable. I'd spend hours torturing him just because of it. This was my first time doing anything like this but I was angry enough to give it my all.
I was human, meaning I was weaker than him, so regular punches wouldn't work well enough. Luckily, I brought a few friends with me. I walked over to the bag of items I had brought and picked up a bat.
I shoot back up and twirled the item in my hand as I walked back in his direction. I moved to bat to swing it onto him when someone cleared their throat. I turned in the direction and one of the men pointed to his clothes. "Sir, your shirt will get bloody."
I scoffed at him and looked down at my clothes. I didn't give a shit about that. I had plenty of vests and suits and if this one were to get ruined I'd wear another one. "Don't interrupt me again."
He nodded and everyone laughed as I turned back to Dimitri. I swung the back across his face and I heard winces across the warehouse as a loud crack came from Dimitri's neck. I gripped his hair and roughly turned him to face me. "Wakey, wakey," I said in a sing-song voice.
His eyes fluttered open and I leaned the bat against my shoulder as I gave him a large smile. "You're up!"
He seemed disoriented as he looked across the room and I slapped his cheeks. "Look at me, bitch. I want you to be present for this."
"Where am I?" He asked.
"You're at mi casa," I joked as I gestured around the room. He moved against the shackles and I scoffed as realization came across his face. He shook his head as fear began to take over his features.
"Please no, don't hurt me," he said.
"Oh? The vampire leader is already begging for his life?" I asked. "I didn't think it would be this easy."
Before he could say another word, I swung the bat and slammed it against his stomach. He screamed out and I laughed at the sound. "You are so going to enjoy your time with me."
"Why are you doing this?" He asked.
"Connect the dots you dumbass, why the fuck do you think you're here?" I said.
He looked lost and then nodded slowly in understanding. "Queen."
"Don't say her fucking name," I said as I hit him with the bat not once but four times. When I stopped, he spat blood on the floor. When I looked down at where he spit, I saw my bloodied shoe and my mouth dropped. I had to blink a couple of times to make sure my eyes weren't playing with me but when I stopped, his germs were still there.
"Do you know...how expensive...these were...you disrespectful cunt?" I asked slowly as I looked back at him.
He opened up with his mouth to speak but I held my hand up. "No, no worries," I said as I stepped back. I removed my dirty shoe with one hand and held it up to his face. "Clean it."
"My hands are tied," he grunted.
"Clean it with your tongue then," I said with a laugh. The men around me laughed and I raised my brow for him to go on. He looked ashamed as he moved his head to actually lick it and I gagged. "You're such a bitch."
I slapped him across the face with the shoe and tossed it to the floor. "When my sister introduced you, I knew that I didn't like you. But she insisted that you made her happy and I left you alone," I said as I shook my head. "That will be the one and only time I ignore my intuition."
"She loves me," he said. "If you kill me, she'll never forgive you. The UNDERWORLD would never forgive you. You'd have to step down as—"
"Blah, blah, blah dude. Your voice is so boring and monotone," I said with a scoff. "I don't give a fuck about any of that. You hurt my sister."
I watched him as he closed his eyes and hung his head. I moved to wake him up thinking he fell asleep but he looked back up at me and quickly shook his head. "I didn't hurt her, I swear," he said quickly as he shook his head.
Mia and Bezy had no reason to lie and I'd trust them over him any day. "You did." He shook his head but I nodded once again. "You did."
"It wasn't me," Dimitri said.
"Then who was it?" I asked.
"It was Sebastian," he replied.
"Who the fuck is that?"
Dimitri
"Sebastian come back!" I begged as I closed my eyes. It wasn't fair that he only let me out when he was getting hurt. What a fucking coward.
"You realize I can hear you, correct?" Sebastian said.
"Get back here, this isn't my punishment to accept. You're the one who did this!"
"Oh please, what's another victim for you?" He asked.
"You know that wasn't me," I whispered. I had to watch Vladimir hurt people for years and there was nothing I could do but sit and watch. It wasn't what I wanted to do again.
"Uh-huh, I'm sure you tell yourself that."
Sebastian
One week ago I managed to be free of the monster that was Syn SinClaire but my life was no longer the same. Shortly after I told him everything in exchange for my life, my father found out. Supposedly Lilith sensed a rat, and all fingers pointed to me.
My father took away my inheritance and I lost everything. My business, my friends...anyone that I had affiliated myself with while I was rich.
Maybe that's why I was sitting here and begging for mercy from the woman I had betrayed so harshly. "Lilith, I'm sorry. He was hurting me."
She looked like shit. The bags under her eyes were profound as she stared into my soul. "You fucking ruined everything," she spat. "Because of you, we had to make a new plan."
"I'm sorry," I apologized again. "I'll do anything for your forgiveness." I didn't want to be desperate but I was completely alone. I needed someone in my life. Even if it was someone as crooked as her.
"Anything?" She asked mischievously as she looked back up at me."
"Anything."
"Even die for me?" She asked.
I shook my head in confusion. "What? No-,"
"There's something I've been meaning to try. But I'm not sure it will work," Lilith said as she stood up from the table. She walked to a shelf nearby and pulled out a book and set it onto the table. "Have you ever heard of possession?"
"I guess so," I said with a shrug. I'd watched plenty of scary movies to at least know what it was.
"The world knows who I am," she said. "I can't just disappear without being found, so I'd like to be someone else."
"This book will help you do that?" I asked.
"It will," she said as she eyed me inquisitively. "But nobody has tried it in centuries. I don't want to be the first in so long."
"What are you asking?"
"I'll forgive you, if you be my test dummy, for lack of better words."
"That's insane," I said.
"Think about it. Your life already went to shit. Why not be someone else? Someone richer, more likable, funnier," she said with a smile. "You no longer have anything to live for, Sebastian."
Her words were hurt but they were appealing. I'd only want to do it if it worked. There was nothing here for me. I lost everything. After thinking about how I came this low in life, all signs pointed to Queen. She ruined my life and all I did was love her.
I nodded, finally making up my mind and looking up at her. "I'll do it. Who's the body will I go into?"
She grinned and opened the book in front of me to reveal a news article. My eyes widened when I looked at the title and I shook my head. "You want me to go into the body of a rapist?!"
"No," she said slowly as she walked back to the shelf. "Not exactly."
She picked up a magazine and came back to her seat. "This is him now."
"Dimitri Russo?" I asked as I read the name on the magazine.
"Yes. The Underworld's sweetheart. He's the leader of all the vampires in the underworld and he's loved by everyone. Wouldn't you want to be him?" She asked.
My eyes skimmed the magazine and a small flicker of hope lit in me. I could have another chance at life if I did this...that small flicker soon burned out as I looked back at the newspaper. "Not if he did all those things."
"That's where it gets a bit complicated," Lilith said. "That man you're looking at." She pointed to the article. "His name was Dimitri Russo until he became the first person to ever be a subject for possession."
I nodded slowly in understanding and she continued. "They decided to use a spirit that was already close to death in an insane asylum. His name was Vladimir Russett, which is the man who committed those crimes.
Dimitri Russo is innocent and the world knows what happened. Your only fear should be that the two of you will share one body," she said with a shrug.
I was still confused and I shook my head. "Where is the Vladimir guy?"
"His soul returned to Hell after he was sent to the electric chair."
"And Dimitri survived? How?"
"He's...he's not like all of us. Have you ever heard of a Lazarus?" She asked excitedly as she leaned her arms onto the table.
"No, what is that?"
"Basically, it's someone that dies, but comes back to life three days later. He is the one and only one of those," she said.
"That's why you want me to go into his body?" I asked.
"Well that, and because he's the first successful subject of these trials."
"He agreed to this?" I asked.
"He doesn't really have a choice," Lilith said with a laugh. "This is his purpose. He's a vessel for souls."
"How would this work?" I asked.
"It's not that difficult, to be honest with you. I'll kill you and once you die, you'll roam around as a spirit for one day before going to Hell," she said. "Before that day is over, I'll kill Dimitri, and you can jump into his body."
"And if he resists?"
"As I said, he doesn't have a choice." Lilith stood up and closed the book. "No one is forcing you to do this, I just thought-,"
"I'll do it!" I said.
"Are you sure?" She asked.
I nodded quickly and she smiled as she sat back down. "Well then great."
"Let's do it now then," I said as I stood up.
"Hold your horses," she said. "There's something I'd like you to do for me since I'm helping you out."
"What?" I asked as I slowly lowered myself onto the seat.
"On the one day that you're a spirit, I need you to do something for me," she said.
"Do what?"
"Well thankfully, I saw ahead of time and created a fake gun of Cain, so be grateful you didn't ruin EVERYTHING. Felix and Xyla have left Jeradua and all we need is a shooter. I figured since you're the reason that..."
"You want me to kill Syn," I said dryly.
"Yes."
"While I'm a ghost? Is that even possible?" I pressed.
"I have a way for it to be possible," she said confidently.
"Why me?"
"Because you'll be invisible, duh. No witnesses will see you do it. And while you're busy with that...I'll kill Dimitri and do the spell."
I remained silent as I tried to process everything she said. After a few seconds, she sighed and held her hand out. "Do we have a deal?"
"We have a deal."
