Syn pulled a wipe from the package and stepped towards me. He eyed me as if asking for permission to touch me, and I answered by tilting my head up. He gently gripped my chin and gently wiped away what was on my face and I silently waited.

I wasn't sure what I expected him to say after my little scene, but I didn't think it would be nothing. He hadn't even mentioned it since we left the room. I didn't expect to blow up on him the way that I did, but after a week without him and being confused, I couldn't hold it in anymore.

"There we go," he whispered as he glided the wipe along my cheek one last time. He moved to throw away all the wipes he used and I turned to look at the mirror. All the makeup that was previously on my face was gone and the only thing showing how screwed up I was were my eyes.

They were still red and it would be impossible for anyone I passed by not to notice. I sighed as I looked back at the floor and Syn moved back in front of me. "Do you want me to take you to wherever you're staying?"

"Umm," I hummed. "No it's fine, you can just go home."

"I'm not leaving you here alone," he said. "Besides, I'm staying at a hotel nearby."

"Why?"

"Meetings and I'm meeting my father about James tomorrow. I figured it'd be better if I was close."

"Oh." I looked away from him and crossed my arms. It wasn't any of my business, but curiosity had its grip on me. "Meetings for what?"

"With a warlock about Dimitri," he replied.

I looked back up at him in surprise and was even more shocked to see that he was completely serious. I assumed that since I left, Syn would just stop. I saw Dimitri multiple times over the past week, but he never mentioned Syn. "You're still working on that?"

"Of course," he answered.

"Why?"

"Because it's important to you," he answered. "And I want Sebastian in a body by himself so I can torture him."

"Damn," I whispered.

"What?"

"I just didn't think that you would still..you know...continue to help after everything," I said lowly.

"You want the truth?" He asked as he leaned against the wall. I nodded and he took a deep breath before looking back at me. "It made me feel closer to you while you were gone."

"How?"

"It was just something you were so passionate about figuring out. I knew your schedule to visit him, and I'd go after you left. Even though we weren't together, it was like I could feel you in the room. Dimitri would tell me what the two of you did and talked about, and it made missing you hurt a little bit less."

My heart fluttered at his words once again, but I pushed the feeling down and stared at the floor. We had hardly talked. It wasn't good for either of us if I just fell for his words. I needed action. Something to SHOW me that every doubt I had in mind was nothing but figments of my imagination.

"But that's neither here nor there," he sighed as he leaned off the wall. A yawn escaped my mouth and I held a hand over my mouth tiredly as Syn looked at me. "Tired?"

"Very."

"Stay with me tonight," he said.

"Syn..."

"Not like that," he said. "It's a suite. There are two rooms. If you're too tired you can just stay in one of the rooms. I'll probably be gone before you even wake up."

I wanted to think about it before I answered, but another yawn told him how I felt before I could. "Come on." He took his hand into mine and led me out of the restroom. We walked back into the room we were in previously and the waiters met us with a cart of food. "We'll just be taking the check and the food to go please."

They nodded quickly and riled the carts out and Syn grabbed our things. He passed me my purse and held the contracts we had as we walked back out of the room. We approached the hostess and I looked around in boredom as Syn paid for the food.

When he was done, they passed him three large bags of the food we were supposed to eat tonight and I grimaced. Did he really expect us to eat this in one sitting?

He passed me one of the bags and set the other two on the table. He pulled out a wad of hundred dollar bills in his pocket and put it in the bag before tying it and turned back to me. "What are you doing?"

"Let's go," he said as he ignored my question. He began walking towards the exit and I followed behind him as he held the door open for me. He looked around for what I could only assume was paparazzi and when everything was clear, he began walking down the street.

"I hope you don't mind walking," he said. "It's around the corner."

"It's fine," I said softly as I followed behind him. My mind was still stuck on the reason why he put money in a bag of food. Did he just not want to carry it in his pocket?

I scurried to keep up with his long strides, and when he saw that I was struggling, he completely stopped walking and turned to me. "Take them off."

"What?"

"The heels. Take them off," he insisted.

"But they're cute," I said as I looked down at them. Granted my feet were hurting like crazy, but beauty is pain.

"They're not cute enough for you to be in pain," he said dryly as he set the bags down and got on one knee. He held an arm out for my leg as he looked up at me and I sighed as I set down the items I was holding and placed my arms onto his shoulders for support.

I looked around the street, thankful that it was empty and I felt his hand move to my heel. I shivered as I felt his calloused and strong fingers move against my ankle, but I shook my head of my thoughts and removed my foot from the shoe. I did the same with the other foot and Syn picked up my shoes alone with the bags before continuing to walk.

I followed him with more ease and we remained in comfortable silence before we turned a corner. Instead of continuing to walk down the street, Syn moved towards a corner in the entrance of an alley where two homeless men were sitting. They were wrapped in blankets and I would've thought they were sleeping if they didn't lift their heads when Syn came by.

"Syn!" One laughed heartily as he stood up from the floor.

"Hey Jack," Syn greeted him. The man pulled Syn into a hug and pat his back before pulling away and looking up at him.

"What brings you back here man?"

"I was in the neighborhood," Syn answered as he glanced at me. "How are you feeling Reese?" He looked down at the man who was still sitting on the floor and he gave Syn a thumbs up.

"He'll be fine," Jack laughed softly. He looked down at the man and when his eyes roamed around, they landed on me and he waved me over. "Don't be a stranger. He talks about you all the time, Your Highness."

I walked toward them and smiled slowly at his words. "All the time?" I asked as I glanced at Syn.

"Not all the time," Syn replied.

"Well, for the past couple of weeks," Jack said humorously.

"Uh-huh," Syn muttered. "I brought this for you guys."

"What's this, man?" Jack asked in shock as he hesitantly took the bags. "You know you don't gotta do any of this..."

"I'm aware," Syn muttered.

"We still got food from the other day you brought," Jack said as he shook his head. He lifted the bag for Syn to take back, but Syn shook his head.

"You can stop rationing," Syn said. "Just eat, okay?"

Jack looked between the both of us and he seemed like he was at a loss for words. After a few moments, he slumped his shoulders in defeat and gave us an appreciative smile. "Thank you, man. You have no idea how much we—"

"Thank me by eating and getting medicine for Reese," Syn said. "Are you still going to go to the job interview?"

"Yes sir," he nodded professionally.

"I'll see you there," Syn said. "I won't go easy on you."

"I wouldn't expect you to, sir."

"Be on time, Jack," Syn warned.

"I always am." He laughed.

Syn gave him a single nod before walking away and I gave Jack a sweet smile. "Here you go," I said as I passed him the bag in my hand.

"Thank you, pretty lady," he said in amusement as he took it from my hands.

"You're welcome. Have a good night," I said.

He said his goodbye to me and I rushed back to Syn's side. We walked side by side quietly for a few moments before he glanced down at me. "You realize you gave him our food, right?"

I didn't know what it was about the moment, but I burst out into laughter. Syn sucked in his lips and held a serious look on his face to keep from laughing at my laugh and he shook his head. "You're a weirdo."

"That's why you gave me that bag to hold," I said as my laughter died down.

"Yup."

"I'm sorry," I apologized.

"You're fine," he said.

"Who are they?" I asked.

"Just a couple of people I met last week ago. I'm trying to get all of my businesses back together now that I'm back. He stopped me in the middle of my trip to the diner and he told me he needed a job," Syn said.

I nodded and Syn looked at me before shoving his free hand into his pocket. "I was prepared to just give him a random job maybe as a cleaner because he seemed like he needed a job."

"But?"

"He told me he had a Masters in Computer Science," Syn said. "Seeing as I was searching for a web developer for the company's sight, I told him I was holding interviews...which I am. He made it clear that he wanted no special privileges when he's being interviewed and I completely agreed with it."

"How do you think he'll do?"

"As good as anyone else that will come prepared," Syn answered. "You know how strict I am when it comes to work. I won't be lenient with him."

"I see," I said slowly.

"Mhmm," Syn hummed as we approached the hotel doors. "I believe he'll get the job though."

"What makes you say that?"

"He has a few things that a lot of supernatural creatures lack these days," Syn said as he held the door open.

"What?"

"Tenacity, ambition, persistence," Syn listed off as we walked into the lobby. "That will set him apart from the other candidates that I see."

I was completely focused on his words, but my stomach growling made me scrunch my face. I hope he didn't hear that. I was starving, but this was embarrassing.

He pressed the elevator button and I relaxed in relief as he didn't my gut complaining. The chatter around the lobby must've been enough to drown out the sound. The elevator door opened and a couple of people walked out and bowed before we walked inside.

Syn pressed a button and when the doors closed, he looked down at me. "I'll order a pizza."

"Stop," I groaned as I looked away from him in embarrassment. He'd heard a lot worse from me, but I was supposed to be sexy tonight.

"And wings..." he offered. At that, I stopped my embarrassed groaned, and side-eyed him. My expression must've been funny because he burst out into laughter, but I was truly intrigued now.

"Wings you say?" I questioned. "What ty—"

"Garlic Parmesan, I know."
