Last Night

I looked over at Syn who had been quiet for the majority of the night and I sighed. We thought that having him get out would make him cheer up a little, but he still seemed miserable.

I looked over at the dance floor where Cas and Cleo were dancing and I turned to Syn. "Do you want to dance?"

"No," he muttered as he sipped on his fifth drink of the night. "You go."

"No," I said as I shook my head. "I'm going to stay with you." He shrugged in boredom and I looked around the club again. "My friends should be here in a few minutes."

"You have friends?" He asked dryly.

"I do," I laughed softly. "You were gone for a long time, Syn." He hummed and I turned around again and smiled when I saw the couple of my friends I had invited tonight. "Zay!" I called out.

He turned to me in the crowd and smiled brightly before taking his girlfriend's hand and walking towards us. "Hey man," he said as he neared us. I shook all of their hands and laughed softly as they all sat down.

"This is Syn," I said as I gestured to him. "And Syn these are my friends, Zay and Chris." Syn nodded in their direction before returning to his drinks and I shook my head. "He's not in the best mood tonight."

"What's going on, man?" Chris asked as he held his arm over a girl's shoulder. I didn't know if it was his girlfriend or not considering he was with a new girl every day.

Syn ignored his question completely and Chris raised a brow in my direction. I shrugged and leaned back in my seat. "His girlfriend is cheating on him."

"I'm so sorry to hear that," Zay said. "How long we're the two of you together?"

"For a while," Syn muttered.

"I've been where you are and it takes time, but you just need to—"

"Yeah, yeah, do what he says if you want to be depressed for a few years," Chris teased with a hearty laugh. The girl beside him giggled and I grimaced. Did she know she wasn't the only one? "Females are like shoes. You can buy one and like it, maybe even love it, but you will never wear one pair of shoes forever. There are way more...better shoes...so why bitch about the one that doesn't fit anymore?"

"That's really offensive," Zay's girlfriend said.

Chris shrugged and chuckled before turning back to Syn. "If you miss a pair of shoes, try another
one and I promise you you'll forget about the other."

Chris and I disagreed on plenty of things. Truthfully, I despised him. His off-the-wall beliefs and disrespect in regards to women were something that pissed me off. Zay seemed to stay friends with him though, so if I hung out with him, Chris was a package deal.

"You're saying if I sleep with another girl, I'll forget about her?" Syn asked.

"Definitely," Chris answered.

"I don't think that's accurate," I said in the nicest way I could.

"There's only one way to find out," he said with a smirk as he turned around.

Syn wouldn't do anything right? Caspian joked about it earlier but Syn pushed the idea away. A sober him would never do anything this soon, but he wasn't himself right now. He was drunk as hell.

Chris snapped his fingers and a couple of girls came over to him in tight dresses and red lipstick. They were no doubt beautiful, but this wasn't what Syn needed right now.

"This is my friend, Syn," Chris said smoothly.

"Hi, Syn," they said together.

Syn looked up at them and then back to Chris before shaking his head. "I'm not interested."

"That's not possible," a girl said as she slid into the booth beside him. She pressed her body against his before whispering something into his ear and I frowned. She laid a kiss on his jaw and moved lower until Syn suddenly moved away.

"If you don't get the fuck away from me, I'll kill you. I said I wasn't interested," Syn said once again boldly.

"Damn!" Chris laughed loudly. "You heard him, bitch. Get the fuck away from here."

The girl scowled at him before moving out of the booth and going back into the crowd. Syn ran a hand through his hair before moving to leave his seat and I raised a brow. "Are you okay?"

"I'm going to the restroom."

I nodded sadly and he walked away from the table. Zay sighed from beside me and I turned to him. "He seems fucked up about his girl."

"He is."

"He'll be fine," Chris groaned. "He just needs to get some new pussy."

"What the fuck is wrong with you?" Zay asked.

They got lost in their own little fight so I took my chance to excuse myself. I needed to check on Syn and make sure he wasn't passed out somewhere.

I cautiously moved through the crowd careful not to bump into anyone and walked into the men's restroom. There was no line so I pushed the door slightly to go in.

I paused at the door briefly and watched as Syn vigorously washed away the spot that the girl had kissed him. The red lipstick was completely gone, but Syn rubbed at it as if it were still clearly there.

He stopped after a few moments and I looked at him in intrigue as he laid his palms onto the counter and began crying. The last time I saw him cry was when he died, but this one was worse. His body was shaking with sobs and it broke my heart to see it.

Syn was the strongest person I'd ever met and crying was something that he never did. The fact that he was doing it over something Queen did truly put things into perspective for me. She hurt him immensely. I loved her, but my anger was now solely directed at her.

I'd lectured Syn enough for hurting her the way that he did, but I was afraid I had to interfere as well. As his best friend, it was my job to protect him and if it had to be from her as well, I'd do it. I thought I knew her better than this, but I guess I was wrong again. If Syn would never speak to her again, I wouldn't either.

From this point on, Queen was nothing to me besides an ex Syn had.

"Syn," I said as I walked in. He looked at me weakly before running a hand down his face and I stepped towards him. "Do you want to leave?"

"It's fine," he said. "I'll leave when you all leave."

"Are you sure?" I asked. "I can go home with you and Cleo and Cas can stay."

"No," he shook his head. "Don't leave early on my behalf. Go enjoy yourself."

"Okay," I nodded slowly. "Promise me you won't cry anymore?"

"I wasn't crying," he muttered.

"Righttt," I said in disbelief. "I'll meet you back at the table?"

"Okay." I turned to leave at his confirmation, but quickly turned right back around and hugged him. He didn't pull away or complain as he usually did, but he remained rigid. "I'm here for you, Syn. We all are."

He nodded and I took a deep breath before walking away and leaving the restroom. I still saw my friends sitting at the table and my vision slightly blurred. I knew I was buzzed after a couple of drinks, but I thought I could handle it.

The only thing I needed right that wasn't in this crowded club, was fresh air. I needed to sober up if I was going to be able to deal with more of Chris's bullshit.

I walked out of the club and relaxed as a gust of cool wind hit my face. There was a short line of people still trying to get in and I sat on the bench in front of the fountain at the club's entrance to take deep breaths.

I closed my eyes to relax, but immediately opened them when I heard a familiar voice.

"You know who I am. Let me pass!" Queen snapped.

My mouth dropped as I saw her talking to a bouncer and I scoffed. After everything she did, what gave her the right to try to come here? Was it to rub it into Syn's face?

"Ma'am, you're not on the list."

I stood up from the bench and walked towards the commotion and grabbed Queen's arm. "She's with me."

The guard nodded and Queen glared at him as I pulled her away. I kept pulling her past the club and she frowned as I did so. "What are you doing? The club is back there."

I let go of her roughly as we reached an alley and she winced as she held her arm. "Did you have to be so rough?"

"Why the fuck are you here?"

"Syn broke up with me out of nowhere and none of you were answering your phones," she said sadly at my tone. How did she manage to look so innocent during this? Had she been pulling the wool over all of our eyes all of this time?

"Is everything okay?" A voice said. I looked up to see Cleo and Cas walk towards us hand in hand and I furrowed my brows. "We saw you come outside and I heard you down here," Cas said slowly.

"Queen?" Cleo asked as she walked towards her. I watched as she shook her head in disappointment at her and I crossed my arms. "What are you doing here?"

"I came to see Syn," Queen replied as she looked up at us in confusion. "So if you'll excuse me."

She moved to walk past us but Cas stepped in front of her and shook his head. "It's not the time. He doesn't want to see you."

"Why not?" She asked desperately. "What did I do?"

"Are you fucking serious, Queen?!" I snapped. "You know exactly what the hell you did."
