I blew on my nails to let the blue polish dry, but it felt like it was taking forever. It probably only felt long because I was desperately wanting to do anything else but this. I only did it because I couldn't live with bare nails for some reason.
It was strange, but that was me.
My phone buzzed from beside me on the bed and my eyes widened when I saw a notification from Cain. Was I late? The purpose of our meet-up early this morning was for me to give him the money I owed him, but we completely forgot about it.
We made plans earlier to meet at the park tonight so I could actually give it to him, but that was hours away. I quickly picked up my phone and opened it to look at the message.
Cain: Can we meet earlier?
11:47 p.m.
Me: Sure. When?
11:47 p.m.
Cain: Right now. I'm outside your window. Open up.๐
11:47 p.m.
Me: The attitude from that emoji was highly unnecessary.๐
11:48 p.m.
Cain: Police! Open up! ๐ฎโโ๏ธ
11:48 p.m.
"What the fuck," I whispered with a laugh as I read the text message. Only his randomness somehow seemed to be charming. I quickly got out of my bed and let out a sigh of relief that I and my room weren't completely unpresentable.
I walked carefully to the window to be careful that the nail polish on my toes didn't get smeared and I cautiously moved the curtain to the side. When I looked out of the window, no one was there and I frowned. I looked around and I almost gave up until Cain popped up and I screamed.
I didn't understand what he got from terrifying like this but all I knew was that he was lucky there was a window between us because he would've gotten punched again. I frowned as I opened the window and he laughed as he came inside.
"You should have seen your face," he laughed.
"You're really mean," I muttered as I closed the window behind him. I heard him laugh at my comment from behind me and when I turned around, I found him looking around at my room.
I didn't think I'd be so nervous to have anyone in here. I loved it, but it was exactly designed for my personality. Some would say it was dorky, but I thought it was fun. I had the consolations painted on my ceiling with stars and it flowed in the dark when the lights were off.
My table was a mess of tarot cards and a crystal ball and my large shelf in the room held random artifacts that I had along with plenty of books that I hoped he'd ignore. Not to mention the gazillion board games that I had for no reason at all.
My bed was an eclectic scheme of purple and black fuzzy pillows and blankets and above my bed, there were posters of my favorite boy band when I was a little bit younger.
I lived here since I was a child but after I got married I moved out. My grandfather never felt the need to change it since he knew it wouldn't work out; which I didn't blame them for, I was only seventeen and the man was forty.
It's been four years since I've been back, but it didn't take much for me to feel back at home. Even with all the childish decorations.
"I like your room," he said as he looked around.
"Thanks," I said quietly.
"You're such a nerd," he said with a small laugh.
"Okay, we're not going to say anything until I know what your room looks like," I said.
"I'll show you one day," he whispered as he looked down at the crystal ball. "Can you tell the future and shit?"
"Yes," I joked. "In a few minutes, I'll be kicking you out of here for being an ass."
He laughed again and I was reminded of the reason why he was here. I walked to my drawer and pulled out the envelope full of the money I was planning on giving to him, and I held it out.
He smirked down at the envelope before ignoring it completely and walking past me to my library. I follow quickly behind him so I could be careful of what exactly he decided to grab. His eyes trailed over everything but paused at one item and I looked up at him.
"My brother-in-law read this book," he pointed out. "Is it any good?"
My eyes widened when I saw "Sold To The Vampire Dom" and I quickly shook my head. "No, it's really bad," I lied.
"What is it about?" He asked in amusement.
"Just some girl who falls in love with some guy...I guess," I said as I tried my best to keep the conversation casual.
"I might need to check it out one day," he said with a nod. I followed him as he walked back to the middle of the room and his eyes landed in the tarot cards. "Is this future shit too?"
"No, Cain," I said. "They're for spiritual guidance. You can gain insight into the past, present, or future. Not just 'future shit'."
"Hmm, what's this?" He asked as he pointed at the large book next to the cards.
"That's for palm readings."
"You can read palms too?" He asked in surprise.
"I can," I said slowly.
"You're so cool," he whispered. I tried to hold back a smile at the sweet compliment, but it was no use as my skin color changed and notified him of everything I was trying to hide. He smiled at the pinkish shade I had turned into and I rolled my eyes.
"Can you read mine?" He asked.
"Your what?" I questioned.
"Palm."
"Oh umm sure," I answered.
He removed his suit jacket and carefully set it down on the back of the chair before taking a seat at the edge of the bed. He rolled up one of his sleeves and looked up at me before holding his hand out.
I swallowed a nervous lump in my throat as I walked over to him and picked up his hand. It was hard to focus when he was looking at me the way that he was so I walked away and picked up an item from a nearby drawer.
"Am I being blindfolded?" He asked with a knowing smirk.
"It's a sleeping mask. Your eyes need to be closed for this to work," I lied.
"Oh really?" He asked.
"Yup." I slid the fluffy bunny decorated mask over his eyes and I snickered at the eyes from the mask.
"What's funny?"
"Nothing," I said as I held back a laugh. "Now be quiet so I can read this."
"Okay," he whispered.
I smiled once again before looking down at his hands and taking a deep breath. "Even though you're a fire sign, you have water hands. Which makes you a lot more complex than a lot of people."
"Sounds about right," he shrugged.
"You dissed me for being an emotional cancer, but your hands tell me you're pretty emotional too. You're a logical thinker but you're more likely to act on your feelings and impulse."
"Hmm."
"You have a mount in Mercury, which means that you have good social skills and you're good at revealing people's true intentions. You have another one in Venus which shows an emotional connection to sexuality and romance...which kind of makes sense considering, you know?"
He laughed softly and I shook my head at myself before continuing. "You have an Inner Mars which represents strength and tenacity...be careful with those as an Aries because your stubbornness and impulsivity can make you overbearing or get you in trouble."
"I don't think I'm-"
"Shhhhh, I'm not done," I said. He smiled before remaining quiet again and I continued. "Your head line is wavy meaning that you're a progressive thinker but it has a break in it."
"What does that mean?"
"Well, it could mean that you're prone to bitter thoughts or you have a lot of sudden epiphanies that you rarely think through."
"Okay," he said with a shrug. "That may be somewhat accurate."
"Hmm, this one right here is the heart line," I said as I softly traced the line. He sucked in a breath as I did that and I paused before continuing. "It deals with love, friendships, relationships, sexuality...all of that."
"This is the one I've been waiting for," he teased. "Turn it up."
