Adam
I crossed my arms as I looked up at the large and gloomy palace and I took a deep breath. I never imagined I'd stay in Hell for as long as I did, but my family was here. I was only thankful Lucifer was no longer in charge because he'd kill me on the spot.
He was still one person that I dreaded seeing considering we'd been enemies since the beginning of time. I hoped to somehow put it past us, but...it's Lucifer.
I glanced at the female guard to my left that I noticed was staring at me and winked in her direction. She cleared her throat and turned away from me and I laughed before turning back to the door. I never thought it'd take this long to see Queen.
"Are you new here?" The guard that I made flustered asked.
"I guess you could say that," I replied. "I'm not from the Underworld."
"Upperwolder!" Another guard yelled. They both held their guns up at me and I crossed my arms. Even if they were to shoot me, I'm sure I'd either come back or be sent to Heaven. My father's punishments weren't so easily foiled by something as insignificant as death.
"If you're going to shoot me, just do it," I said. "There's no need to be afraid of me."
"All of you are horrible to us," he said.
"I know."
"Why would you be any different?" The woman said.
The door to the palace began to open and I smiled as I swung my head in the girl's direction. "Because my daughter is the Queen of Hell."
If only they knew that I'd managed to get inside the palace before. I was only knocking this time because I wanted them to know I was truly back.
Eve, as much as I despised her, was a part of me. She was created from a piece of me that would now be forever gone with her. As soon as I no longer felt the tug between our souls, I knew she was no longer of this world. Problem was, I didn't feel her anywhere...which was odd.
Regardless of that strange mystery, it wasn't my main focus. I wanted to get back to my family and her being dead only aided in that goal. I was aware they had Lilith contained as well, so I didn't sense any danger in visiting everyone.
I looked back up to the door to see Syn and Queen walking out and I smiled. Queen's eyes widened as she looked at me but she made no move to walk towards me. It looked like she was trying to gauge if I was real, but couldn't do it.
I stepped towards her but the guards stepped in my way. I didn't want to have to hurt them but they were getting annoying. With the flick of my hand, they were held midair and dropped their weapons.
I took my opportunity to walk towards Queen and as I did, I looked in Syn's direction. I could see that he knew it was me and he stepped aside from in front of Queen. I nodded at him appreciatively and stopped walking when I was directly in front of her.
"Hi."
Her eyes were watery as she looked at me and I sighed. I hated that she had been through so much that she couldn't trust the things directly in front of her. She looked up at Syn and he nodded down at her.
"It's him," he said.
At his confirmation, she threw herself into my arms and I staggered backward as I hugged her back. "How are you here?"
"It's a long story," I whispered as I rubbed her back.
I heard her crying into my shoulders and my own eyes began to water. I looked back up at the man who I'd seen as my son for the past few years and mouthed a "thank you". Not only for believing me but for not giving up on her as I asked.
He nodded and crossed his arms before looking back at the door. "We should head inside. I'm sure your son would like to see you as well."
Queen pulled away slowly and wiped her tears as I looked at Syn in confusion. "My son?"
"Cain," Queen said slowly. "He's inside. I don't know the history between th-"
"May I see him?" I interrupted.
"Of course," she nodded. "Let's go inside."
Syn walked in before us and I wrapped my arm around her shoulders. She smiled brightly up at me and I kissed the top of her head before we walked inside.
I was surprised to see that the inside of the palace wasn't some sort of dark dungeon. It was bright and luxurious. I could almost see my reflection in the beige marble floor. A crystal chandelier lit up the area from above us and in front of me, there were two large staircases on either side of the foyer.
"This is nice," I said in awe.
"Thanks," Queen replied.
"Should I call Cain down or would you like to go up...?" Syn offered.
"I should probably go alone," I grimaced. "I'm not sure what his reaction will be."
"Okay," Syn said. "I'll show you the way."
Queen gave me a comforting squeeze on my hand before letting me go and I took a deep breath as I followed Syn up the stairs. After a draining set of steps, we made it to the top and Syn turned towards me.
"Welcome back," he said.
I smiled at him and opened my arms for a hug but all he did was look at me blankly. I raised a brow in his direction and he rolled his eyes before stepping into the hug.
"Good boy," I said as I pat his head.
He quickly pulled away from me and glared down at me. He wasn't much taller than me but his malevolent aura did make him seem a lot larger and of course more terrifying. I would've been a lot more scared if I wasn't Queen's father.
"This will be your first and last warning, Adam," he said seriously.
"Son," I said as I laid a hand on his shoulder. "Take a chill pill."
"A what?"
"Isn't that what you kids say these days?" I asked. "Take a chill pill...brosky."
He looked at me for a long moment before shaking his head slowly. "Disgusting."
He swatted my hand away from his shoulder and I laughed as he walked away from me.
I followed closely behind him in silence before questions began surfacing in my mind. "How's your father?"
"Same as always," he muttered.
"What does that mean?"
"It means he's the same as when you knew him," he answered as he looked at me and stopped walking.
"I don't believe that," I said.
"Well if you stick around, you'll see for yourself," he mumbled as he began walking again.
"Is that an invitation for me to stay?"
"Where else would you go?" He asked.
"I don't know, but I wasn't planning on staying here," I admitted.
Syn stopped walking completely again and turned to face me. "What do you mean by that?"
"I don't want to interfere in your lives. I'm just here to visit," I answered truthfully.
"You're a father," he said. "It's your duty to interfere."
"Is it?" I questioned. "My children have lived years without me. I shouldn't just barge in and plant myself in your lives. I'll visit often b-"
"You're staying here," he said. "End of discussion."
"Why am I the older one, but I'm being treated like a child?" I asked humorously.
He ran a hand through his hair and shook his head as he looked at me. "Stay for a while. Queen needs you and I'm sure Cain does as well. You can't just pop up and disappear on them."
I nodded slowly as I glazed over his words in my mind and clasped my hands together. "I'll stick around, but I shouldn't live here. I'm too old to be here with you all."
"You don't have anywhere to go," he argued. "At least stay until you get a place of your own."
"Fine, I'll do that."
"Okay," Syn said. He looked around the halls before taking a step towards me and crossing his arms. "If you abandon or hurt Queen and Cain, I'll make sure you're paralyzed until the end of time."
I laughed softly and nodded at his warning. "I appreciate how much you care for the both of them, but trust me when I tell you, none of those will happen."
"Just making sure," he said as he turned back around. "Let's go see if Cain likes you."
"You're cruel, son."
