『 Chapter twenty: Hangover arguments 』

You probably glanced over once and saw me having a good time and decided to ruin it for me!

Needless to say, Aurora awoke with a massive hangover. Maria had called Fury and told him that Aurora was unwell and was resting at my apartment, away from everyone's accusing stares and mumbles. She cleverly left out the part where we had found her in a gay bar drunk.

Maria had to go into work, however I stayed at the apartment. My girlfriend was skeptical about me staying alone with Aurora, however I assured her I was only there to make sure she didn't hurt herself and she recovered, as it would be us who would get told off for not looking after her.

I didn't tell Maria how I actually felt guilty for the way I had reacted and exposed Aurora's confession. I didn't mean for it to spread around the whole of the Triskelion so fast, and for it to change people's view of the agent. After all, to many, she was a hero, an idol.

"Morning," I said clearly as Aurora groaned and stretched her arms above her head.

She huffed, eyes still closed as her arms dropped back down and she lay still, face slightly contorted with pain. I placed a glass of water and a painkiller on the coffee table in front of the sofa.

Eventually, the agent pushed herself into a sitting position, opening her eyes, then rubbing them with her fists.

"There's water and painkillers on the table if you want them," I told Aurora, standing a little way off.

She fixed her blue gaze falteringly on me, a disgruntled look in them, and her eyelids drooping. I returned her gaze with an unfaltering stare until she dropped her gaze and reached for the glass and the painkiller.

Once she had swallowed the pill and drank some of the water, she asked groggily, "What happened last night? I assume I didn't end up in anyone's bed."

I blinked, an odd feeling in my stomach as she said the last sentence.

"Oh, I uhhh..." I sat down on an armchair. "No, you were really drunk. Dangerously drunk."

"Did you follow me in there?" Aurora asked suspiciously.

"No," I shook my head. "We didn't realise you were in there until we came in."

Aurora tensed slightly, although she badly failed at hiding it.

"We?"

"Me and Maria."

There was a long moment of silence, followed by a quiet, "Oh, of course, you two are dating, aren't you."

I nodded.

"We couldn't leave you in there for god knows what to happen to you. You could barely walk."

"I know," she rasped harshly. "I was with a girl, and we were really getting along. I remember that much."

"She was using you Aurora."

"No she wasn't."

"She was."

"You don't know that, you were too busy trying to get Maria in your bed."

I felt my face flush with anger and embarrassment.

"What me and my girlfriend do is none of your business," I muttered.

Aurora didn't seem to hear me, continuing, "You probably glanced over once and saw me having a good time and decided to ruin it for me!"

"You were dangerously drunk, you could be anywhere this morning, and who even knows if that woman would've stayed to look after you!"

"I don't need looking after!" Aurora raised her voice. "I'm not a god damn baby!"

I scoffed.

"You act like it! Getting all worked up at the fact I wanted to do something with my girlfriend and I can do it without getting drunk off of my head!"

Aurora stood up, and straightened the dress she had been wearing the night before. She grabbed her heels from beside the sofa and put them on with a huff.

"You can't leave," I told her coldly. "Not looking like that."

She didn't respond to me, standing up and walking towards the door. Sighing with anger, I stood up and followed her. As she put her hand on the doorknob, I pushed her wrist away, standing with my back to the door, blocking her way out.

"Move or I'll move you," she warned darkly.

"You wouldn't," I scoffed.

"I would."

"You couldn't."

Aurora's jaw clenched and she put her hand towards the doorknob, only for me to grab her wrist. She reacted, yanking out of my grip, then aiming her fist at my face. I ducked easily and grabbed her waist, spinning her around and slamming her against the door, making a loud thump.

"Fury's gonna kill me if I let you go like this!" I snapped after she groaned from the impact.

"I'm gonna kill you Romanoff," she threatened in a low voice. "If I have to fucking kill you to leave, I will."

I was startled for a moment, as she was speaking in the same low, threatening voice she spoke in when she was being controlled by Dreykov. No, she wasn't being controlled by him. She was beyond angry, and hungover.

"And I'll restrain you to the damn couch if I have to to stop you from doing so."

Aurora huffed and wriggled in my grip, however I knew she had given up. She was probably already suffering from an insane headache, now probably even worse. I loosened my grip on the girl and she wriggled away from me, stumbling backwards in her heels.

"You need rest," I told her, leaving no room for argument in my tone. "I don't care if you don't want to stay here, you're staying until you're well enough to go back to the Triskelion."

I grabbed Aurora's upper arm as she stumbled, stopping her falling. She huffed in annoyance as I led her back to the sofa, where I pushed her down. She sat with her elbows on her knees, head in her hands, covering her face. All she wanted was to live a normal life, but I had to go and ruin it. I thought with a pang of regret. I watched Aurora for a moment, brows furrowed, then I spoke to her in a softer voice, "I've got some spare clothes you can borrow. That outfit can't exactly be comfortable right now."

When the woman didn't respond, I sighed quietly and went into my bedroom.
