It was a chance encounter that brought Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the Indian cricket captain, and Sakshi Singh Rawat, a hotel management student, together.

It was during the time of sweltering winter of 2007, when Indian cricket team including the captain cool-Mahendra Singh Dhoni were staying in the Taj Bengal hotel of Kolkata. Sakshi was interning at that hotel at the same time, a small place that transformed her life forever.

It was, when, Mahi was walking through a buzzing lobby when he realized that he has misplaced his keycard, Sakshi who was coincidentally passing by caught Mahi's eye. Despite being a hotel management student, Sakshi wasn't aware of the cricketing world, and Mahi was just another guest to her. However, Mahi was drawn to Sakshi's charm and simplicity, and he made it a point to get to know her better.

Coincidentally, it was Sakshi's last day of internship, and she left after her shift ended. But their brief interaction had sparked something special. After her departure from the Taj Bengal hotel, Mahi received her phone number through Yudhajit Dutta, Mahi's manager and Sakshi's friend.

Mahi began sending her messages. Initially, Sakshi thought it was a prank pulled up by one of her friends, but after a month or two of persistent messaging, she finally realized that it was actually "Mahendra Singh Dhoni- The captain of Indian cricket team" himself!

After a lot of pestering and chasing on Mahi's part, the two finally started dating in March 2008. They would meet in private, sharing soft moments of love, laughter, and joy. They kept their relationship extensively private, however the relentless media still managed to get a glimpse of it.

When he decided to propose to Sakshi, he chose a simple yet heartfelt approach. Instead of confessing his love, he asked her, "Will you marry me?" Sakshi, overwhelmed with emotion, said yes. On July 4, 2010, they tied the knot in a private ceremony in Dehradun, surrounded by close friends and family.
