Chapter 6
Girl in New Orleans
Just as Klaus is drifting off to sleep, Lola shifting around wakes him up. Klaus turns to face her, wrapping his arm around her waist and pulls her closer to him, "What's wrong?"
"Nothing." Lola sighs heavily, "I'm okay. I just can't get comfortable." She begins to relax slightly in Klaus' hold, "I'm okay now."
Lola stays still for a moment as they both begin to relax but it's not long until she starts shifting around in bed once again. Klaus huffs as he quickly gets out of the bed, "If you are going to continue moving around might I suggest some tea to help you sleep or another room perhaps."
"I'm sorry!" Lola exclaims, face palming as she continues laying in bed, "I've just got a bad feeling."
Klaus rolls his eyes, "Not this again."
"Don't act as though this happens all the time. It was a hundred years ago when this happened." Lola looks over to him with a smug grin, "And my bad feeling was right."
Klaus gives Lola an unamused glare, "Yes and you love to remind everyone at every giving moment that you claimed to have predicted the titanic sinking."
Lola sits up in bed, "I did predict it!"
Klaus scoffs, rolling his eyes as he climbs back into the bed with his back to her. Lola lays back down facing up at the ceiling as she ponders on her thoughts until she sits up again and looks over to Klaus, "Actually, now that I'm thinking about it. This happened in '63 too."
Klaus pulls the sheets up himself further, still with his back to her, "Let me guess, you predicted flower power."
"Idiot." Lola rolls her eyes, "Adrianna will vouch for me, I was exactly like this and guess what happened?" Klaus remains silent, Lola taps him against his back slightly, "Go on. Guess."
"I just did." Klaus grunts not bothering to move.
"Three days after I had this feeling JFK was assassinated."
Klaus can't help but laugh as he wears a sarcastic grin, sitting up in the bed and looking over to Lola, "Well I can't really see another ship sinking or president assassination happening any time soon so what may this bad feeling be about this time?"
Lola shrugs her shoulders as she sits back on her knees, "That's why I can't get comfortable because I don't know."
Klaus sighs as he stands up, pulling the sheets down to the foot of the bed, "Come on, get up."
Lola's brows pull together in confusion glancing at the bed and Klaus, "What?"
"I'm making you tea."
Lola's face squirms with slight disgust, "I don't want tea."
"Yes, well I would like to sleep." Klaus walks over to their door, opening it up slightly before turning to face Lola again who hasn't moved from the bed, "It's 2 in the morning, love. So either drink the tea I am going to make you or I'll find another room to attempt at getting a few more hours sleep."
Lola remains silent for a second before giving in, she rolls her eyes as she lays back down in the bed, "Fine. I'll have your stupid tea."
Klaus tries to fight back a smug smile as he walks out, "Just wait there."
Klaus waits at the bottom of the stairs for only ten minutes, not bothering to make the tea. Remembering the last time they were in the same scenario, in 1912 just one month before the sinking of the titanic. That time he made the tea but by the time he went back into the room, Lola was fast asleep. It's as though the mere threat of tea instantly made Lola want to fall asleep. She absolutely detests chamomile tea.
Wearing a smug grin, Klaus eventually makes his way up the stairs and down the hallway towards their bedroom. Low and behold, Lola is now fast asleep in the bed. He chuckles to himself as he climbs into the bed next to her, "Some things never change."

The next morning, Klaus is in his study going through papers until he hears a loud crash from his and Lola's bedroom and Lola shouting, "Son of a bitch!"
Within seconds Klaus is at the doorway of their bedroom, with a worried expression he glances over to Lola who is sat surrounded by all her clothes, "What's happened?"
"Nothing fits anymore!" Lola exclaims as she gestures down at all the clothes, "These?" Lola picks up a pair of jeans, "Won't fasten." She throws them back into the large pile and then picks up a white shirt, "This? Squishes my boobs." The shirt joins the jeans in the pile, Lola comes to a stand as she is holding onto a black dress, "This? Makes me look bigger than I actually am!" Lola aggressively throws the dress onto the pile, she huffs stepping out of the pile and begins to pace around the room.
Klaus bites the inside of his cheek to try and stop himself from laughing at Lola's theatrics. He steps further into the room, "Would it help if I told you how beautiful you look this morning?" Lola remains silent showing no expression when Klaus closes the gap between them both, he turns her around for them to both face the mirror, wrapping his arms around her, "You're glowing, love. It's not the end of the world that you can't fit into these clothes right now."
Lola scoffs as she pulls herself out of his hold, she continues to pace around, "No, it's really bad!"
Klaus fights back rolling his eyes as he sits down on the bench at the foot of their bed, "I will buy you every single item of clothing there is in every single size if I have to."
Lola stops pacing and turns to face Klaus with a deathly expression, "Every size?" She steps closer to Klaus, "I'm going to need every size?"
"Well you are growing our child, sweetheart." Klaus laughs slightly, standing up from his seat, "You're only just starting to show and-" He notices the panic that is starting to set in on Lola's face, he takes hold of her hands, "Perhaps we don't talk about that right now. I'll have someone bring you new clothes." Klaus frowns, he eyes dance around Lola's face as her breathing becomes heavy and her eyes start to get glossy, "What's wrong?"
Without saying anything, Lola pulls Klaus into a hug, "I'm sorry." Klaus pulls away to speak but Lola interrupts him, "I'm being a bitch and I'm sorry." She scoffs as she gestures down to the pile of clothes, "I'm having a meltdown over stupid clothes then I'm snapping at you, these hormones are just making me crazy and-"
Klaus interrupts Lola with his lips colliding onto hers, he pulls away with a smirk, "Don't you mean crazier?" Lola pulls away from Klaus with an unamused glare making Klaus try to fight back a grin, "No jokes for the foreseeable I take it? Why don't you stay up here and relax, okay?"
"Okay!" Lola snaps unintentionally, taking both her and Klaus by surprise. She cringes slightly before flashing an apologetic smile, "Sorry."
Klaus kisses Lola against her forehead before walking out, with a slight regret of walking into their room in the first place, "Five months to go."
Lola sits on the edge of her bed and reaches for her phone, dialling her younger brother's number. Totally ignoring Damon's plea to wait until he calls her. Stefan quickly answers the phone making Lola sigh slightly with relief, "Stefan! Oh thank god you've answered. Are you okay?" She's greeted with silence from Stefan's end of the phone, all she can hear is distant chatting in the background, sounding like he is in the grill, "Stef?"
"I'm sorry I have no idea who you are." Stefan finally speaks up, "I know the ID says Lola but I don't know who Lola is."
Lola scoffs as she stands up, "Okay, I know you're both low key annoyed that I've left town but playing some game where you pretend you don't know me? It's rather childish, Stef."
"Oh, wait." He drawls out, "Damon told me we have a sister called Lola. You're my sister, right?"
"Give me that." Lola hears Damon's voice come into play, "I told you to not answer."
"It kept going off and it was annoying me."
Lola can hear Damon scoffs then shuffling around on the phone until she hears Damon more clear, "Hello, sister."
"What the hell is going on?" Lola seethes walking into her bathroom and turning the faucet on, wanting privacy with her brothers.
"There's a slight problem."
"Slight!?" Lola echoes before a laugh that is a mixture of nerves and scornfulness, "Apparently Stefan doesn't know who I am so I would say that's more than just a slight problem!"
"You just gotta trust me, Lo." Damon pleas in a much calmer tone, "I told you that a witch linked Stef to the infamous Silas, well the spell was so powerful that it sorta wiped Stefan's entire memory."
"I leave town for a few months and it completely goes to shit! What the hell, Damon!?"
"I love you, Lo, and I am trying to not be my classic asshole self but you're not here." Guilt starts to form in the pit of Lola's stomach not realising how much she actually misses Mystic Falls until now, "More than anything I wish you were but I know you've said you need to deal with stuff in New Orleans and I'm not getting in the way of it. So please, let me deal with this, okay? I'll fix this, I promise. But if you keep hounding me I'm going to block your number again. You have a good day, little sister."
"No, wait! Damon-"
"Mhm, bye now."
Lola looks down at her phone in shock slightly but also not even surprised anymore that Damon has once again hung up on her which is becoming a regular occurrence lately. Not allowing Damon to once again block her number, she decides to block his first.

Lola is greeted downstairs with Rebekah smiling broadly at her in the living room holding out a glass full of kale smoothie. Lola glances down at the glass then back up to Rebekah, "I'm guessing you've spoken to Adrianna?"
Rebekah nods as she holds the glass further towards Lola, "If you don't drink it willingly, I'll make you."
Lola rolls her eyes as she takes the glass from her, "I hate you both." Rebekah watches Lola, amused, before there's a knock at the door. She turns back to Lola who sits on the sofa and shrugs, "You're closer to the door now."
Rebekah scoffs as she turns to walk towards the door, "When did I become the butler of the family?" Rebekah's face pulls slightly when she answers the door to reveal Agnes, "What do you want?"
"Sophie has asked me to come and check on Lola." Agnes informs, "Can I come in?"
Rebekah opens the door further to allow Agnes to walk in. Lola hears everything and scoffs, "I don't need checking up on by a bunch of annoying witches!"
Agnes smiles over to Lola as she sits opposite her, "How are you feeling?"
Lola shrugs as she picks up a random book from the side, quickly losing interest in what Agnes has to say, "I feel fine."
Agnes edges forward in her seat slightly, "You are four months pregnant now, Lola. You haven't gone to a doctors for any sort of check ups."
Lola narrows her eyes over to the witch, "And how would you know that? Do you witches take turns playing guard outside and making notes if I ever leave this place? Besides, I've got two originals keeping me company who can hear the baby's heartbeat which sounds perfect."
Agnes watches as Rebekah walks past them both and sits beside the table opening up her laptop. Agnes' attention turns back to Lola, "I think you should go and see a doctor just to be on the safe side."
Lola sighs as she continues to flick through the book, "I told you Agnes, I feel great!"
"You are overdue for a checkup."
"What am I gonna do?" Lola retorts as she slams the book shut, "Pop into the Quarter for a quick ultrasound? People in the Quarter still think I'm a vampire so how are we gonna explain myself walking through the Quarter on my way to the doctors office especially when I have a witch as my chaperone? Nothing to see here!"
"A lot of women would kill to have a child." A jealous sounding Rebekah grunts from behind Agnes, "It strikes me as odd that you're not taking better care of yours."
"I know a doctor out in the Bayou, off the beaten path. Now, I took the liberty of making an appointment for you. Tonight, after-hours, just us." Agnes smiles genuinely over to Lola, "Vampires will never get word of it."
Lola narrows her hesitant stare towards her, "Will it make you leave me alone for the time being?" Agnes laughs slightly before nodding. Lola sighs, "Okay, fine. Bayou-baby-doctor it is. You can show yourself out."
Lola watches as Agnes shows herself out then looks to the back of the room where Klaus walks in. He scoffs as he sees Rebekah yet again looking through the satellite maps, "Please, sister, tell me you're not still at it with the internet search." He smiles to himself as he pours a glass of bourbon, "How does one begin, anyway? Just type in "anonymous attic?""
Rebekah rolls her eyes at Klaus' quip, "Someone has to find Elijah, even if I have to search every bloody attic in New Orleans."
Klaus smiles smugly towards Rebekah, leaning against the drinks table, "Like looking for a needle in a rather large pile of needles."
"I remember details about the attic Marcel took me to." Rebekah continues to intently search through, "There were shutters on the windows behind Elijah's coffin."
Lola sits beside Rebekah and glances towards her screen, "Hm, that should narrow the search down from say 1000 to 900."
Klaus takes a seat on a chair opposite Rebekah, "Myself, I prefer actual strategy as opposed to mind-numbing labour. Marcel's delay in returning our brother makes me suspect he's no longer in charge of the situation. If Davina's loyalty to Marcel is strained, perhaps the young witch will be open to discussing a new alliance."
Rebekah smiles bitterly at Klaus, "As usual, your power grabs are more important than rescuing your brother."
Klaus purses his lips slightly as he shrugs, "I prefer to think of it as killing two birds with one stone. Rob Marcel of his secret weapon, bring our brother home."
Rebekah glares over to Klaus, still unimpressed. She smiles tightly over to him before closing down the laptop and leaving the room swiftly just leaving Klaus and Lola.
"How did it go with Cami?" Lola questions as Klaus sits in the same spot Rebekah was, "Is she going to continue being your little pawn in getting information about Marcel?"
"Yes while also writing my memoirs." Klaus smirks over to her, shuffling closer to Lola and putting her legs over his lap, "Or shall I say, our memoirs."
Lola's brow raises in interest, "Ours?"
"We'd be foolish to not keep a note of our history together." Klaus places his glass onto the table, his hands both finding a place against Lola's upper thighs, "What did the witch want?"
Lola's hands go to her growing stomach, "Forcing me to go and see some doctor for a check up."
Klaus leans closer to her, moving her hair away from the side of her face, "Forget the witch, I'll take you myself."
"I can look after myself, don't worry." Lola assures him, she sits up slightly, her lips just inches away from Klaus' as she smirks, "You just keep on making sure you get our home back. Do whatever it takes."
Klaus mimics the same smirk, "I love you."
Klaus moves closer to Lola until they lock lips, he lowers Lola further down on the sofa. Lola's smile beams, butterflies swarm around in her stomach as the feel of Klaus' lips against her neck and collarbone,
"I love you."

Much to Lola's disgust, Agnes driven Lola to the doctor deep within the bayou in Agnes' car. Lola breathes with relief when they finally pull up to the doctors, "Next time, I'm driving. Your seats are starting to give me a rash." She frowns looking over to the little shack, "This is the doctor's office?"
Agnes smiles over to her, "Dr. Paige is only this far out because Marcel's men kept terrorising her patients." Lola hesitates as she continues to squirm at the sight of the office, "Go." Agnes softly presses, "She won't bite!"
Lola's hand goes to the door handle of the car before removing it and looking over to Agnes with a deathly calm expression, "You do realise if this is all one big hoax you don't need to be worried about what Klaus will do. You need to be worried about what I'll do."
Agnes gulps slightly as she nods over to Lola who smiles wickedly at her before getting out of the car and walking towards the doctors. Agnes watches intently as she does so before taking her phone out, "Send them in now and tell them to do it quickly."
A little while later in the doctor's office, Dr. Paige is giving Lola an ultrasound. A strong heartbeat is heard making Dr. Paige smile down at Lola, "Your baby's heart rate is perfect."
Lola smiles to herself, "I knew it. She's a tough one, like her mom." Dr. Paige chuckles, handing Lola a tissue to wipe off the ultrasound gel from her stomach.
Dr. Paige watches curiously as Lola sits up on the seat, "I understand you've recently moved back here after a long time away?"
Lola shifts around on the seat uncomfortable before clearing her throat, "We're pretty much done here, right?" Lola glances down as her phone goes off to see a text from Rebekah,
"Where are you?"
"Your blood pressure is a bit high." Dr. Paige informs as she begins to walk out of the office, "I've got something for it."
Lola watches as the doctor walks out of the room and stands beside Agnes in the waiting room. Lola stands up from the seat as she texts Rebekah back,
"Bayou clinic with doctor. Taking care of the little one, remember?"
Lola attention goes to outside when she hears a wolf howling loudly, so loudly it sounds close by. Curiosity grows as she glances out of the window, expecting to see the same set of amber eyes from the other night but is instead greeted with a set of car headlights approaching the doctor's office.
Lola steps back from the window as she begins to grow anxious when Dr. Paige walks back in with a pack of pills. Lola's face twists slightly as she shakes her head, "Ahh, you know, I'm-I'm actually not that good with pills."
Dr. Paige laughs slightly, almost in a nervous manner, "Neither am I, truth be told."
Dr. Paige walks past Lola but Lola's attention goes back into the waiting room when she sees a group of men walking into the office and begins to speak to Agnes in a hushed tone. Lola turns just as Dr. Paige begins to walk towards her with a syringe, she holds her arm up about to lunge at Lola with it. Lola harshly grabs her wrist, digging her nails into her skin, she headbutts the doctor, making her step back away from Lola slightly, giving Lola the opportunity to injecting with the doctor with the syringe.
Lola turns back towards the waiting room to see the group of men heading straight towards her. Lola runs towards the door managing to lock it shut before they could enter. She looks around panicked trying to determine her next action as she can hear the men pounding on the door, trying to break it down. Lola rushes over to a window within the room and tries to open it but is proving difficult. Lola finally manages to slide the window open, she jumps out of the window and begins to run away from the doctor's office just as the group of men are able to make entry into the room. They all watch as Lola sprints away from the office.
Taking a breath, Lola hides behind a large oak tree. She grabs her phone about to ring Klaus but her shaky hands and posture make her unable to do so. She almost drops her phone when she hears twigs around her breaking. Lola glances over her should to see silhouettes of the men looking around the wooded area. With a deep breath, Lola moves away from the tree just as one of the men, holding a shotgun, walks past her. Lola wraps her arm around the man's neck before immediately snapping it. Lola gasps as she feels a heavy arm wrap around her neck, one of the other men attempting to grab her. Lola elbows the man in the face making him release her, he steps back slightly from the force. Lola punches the man in the face before grabbing the pocket knife from her pocket, stabbing it directly into his carotid artery.
Lola grabs the shotgun that the first man was carrying, she twists around in her step just as another man runs up towards her. She knocks him to the ground as she hits him against the jaw with the shotgun. She continues to beat him down with the shotgun until he's dead. She stays kneeling down for a moment to catch her breath but her breath gets stuck at the back of her throat when she looks up to see another man walking towards her.
Before Lola can react, Rebekah appears, immediately snapping his neck. Rebekah looks around at the other fallen men and smiles slightly over to Lola, "Have to say, I'm impressed."
Lola laughs breathlessly as Rebekah helps her up, "Turns out working out with Stefan finally came into use. How did you find me?"
"Your text got me halfway, vampire hearing did the rest." Rebekah continues to glance between the men on the floor, "Who are they?"
"Witches." Lola assumes between breaths, she shrugs her shoulders, "Warlocks. Whatever."
Rebekah's eyes widen as she looks over Lola's shoulders to see more men approaching carrying flashlights, "There're more of them. Run!" Lola hesitates for a moment before running away in the opposite direction. Rebekah watches as she does before muttering to herself, "If I had a dollar for every mess my family has got me into..."
Rebekah gasps when she is shot in the stomach with an arrow before another one going straight through her heart. Rebekah begins to desiccate and falls to the floor. Lola turns around just as Rebekah falls to the floor, she steps closer horrified, "Rebekah!"
Lola looks down in shock when she feels an arrow shoot through her shoulder, it's as though it's coated in something which makes Lola begin to feel dizzy. Her eyes roll to the back of her head before falling to the ground close by to Rebekah.
Rebekah awakens in the woods of the Bayou after passing out from being shot in the heart with an arrow. She pulls out the arrows with a groan of pain, "What the hell?" Rebekah sits up to find five or more bodies surrounding her, all of which look as though they were mauled. Rebekah looks around in horror when she doesn't see Lola, "Lola? Lola!?"
She heads towards the doctor's clinic in the hopes of looking for any clues to find out where Lola could be. Rebekah nudges the doctor with her foot who is still unconscious on the floor from the syringe Lola injected her with. Rebekah's attention turns to the doorway when Klaus appears, "Wow! You abandoned your quest for power to help out your family!" She narrows her glare towards him, "Having an off day?"
Klaus steps further into the room, trying his best to remain calm, "Who took her, Rebekah?"
"I don't know."
"What do you mean, you don't know?" Klaus begins to grow more anxious and agitated as he steps closer to Rebekah, "And who killed her attackers?"
"I don't know!" Rebekah echoes in a harsher tone, "I had an arrow in my heart. If it wasn't Lola who killed them, thenโ" Rebekah is cut off when she hears wolves howling in the distance. She scoffs slightly, "Lovely. Maybe her distant bloodline will know where she is."
Klaus' heart sinks as both he and Rebekah step outside of the doctor's to see a disoriented Lola walk over to them, her clothes look ripped slightly and covered in dirt. Klaus rushes over to her, "Lola! What happened?" Lola continues to stare out into the distance, Klaus places his hand against her shoulder softly, "Tell me what happened, love."
Lola's face pulls slightly, her brows knit together as she tries to think back, "I can't remember."
Klaus' other hand finds a place against Lola's other shoulder as he examines her for any possible wounds. He begins to look confused, "You've completely healed. There's not a scratch on you." Rebekah sighs with relief as Klaus' assumption. He shakes his head slightly in disbelief, "It's not possible, not anymore."
Rebekah rushes over to Lola, wrapping an arm around her, "Leave her alone!" Rebekah guides Lola towards the steps of the doctor's office when a realisation hits, "It's the baby. The vampire blood-- Klaus' vampire blood-- in your system. It can heal any wound." Rebekah smiles faintly over to a dazed Lola as they both sit on the steps, "Your own child healed you."
Klaus smiles slightly at the thought of their child healing Lola but stops as Rebekah speaks up again, "How did you escape? You were outnumbered, unarmed? Those men were ripped to shreds!"
Lola looks up to Klaus as he turns around, "I think it was the wolf. I think it's trying to protect me."
Klaus' anger builds as he steps closer to them both, "The witches were supposed to protect you! When I get my hands on Sophie Devereaux--"
"It wasn't Sophie." Lola shakes her head slightly, "It was Agnes."
"Fine!" Klaus exclaims, "Agnes, Sophie, it's all the same to me! I'll slaughter the lot of them!"
Rebekah looks over to Klaus, "Not if Elijah gets there first."
"Elijah?" Lola's attention perks as she looks over to Rebekah with hope filling her eyes, "Did you find him?" Klaus frowns slightly at Lola's sudden perkiness in regards to his brother, hoping that his deep fears aren't going to come to light.
Rebekah smiles softly at her, "He's been in touch, and he has a plan. All he asks is that we take care of you."
Lola mimics the same smile at Rebekah, feeling grateful towards Elijah and the fact one of the things he's still focusing on despite what's going on with him, is to keep to his word and care for her. Lola smiles up at Klaus, "Can we go home now? I'd really like to sleep for a few days...I promise no more shuffling around in bed. I don't think I've got the strength."
Klaus nods with a smile as Lola slowly comes to a stand with the aid of Rebekah. Her face drains of it's colour as she begins to feel dizzy once more, her knees buckle as she stumbles and starts to fall. Klaus rushes over to her, catching Lola before she hits the ground, "I've got you, love. I've got you." Klaus picks her up with ease, scooping her into a bridal-carry in his arms as he and Rebekah begin to walk towards the car,
"I've always got you."
โโคโ
A/N: "I've always got you." *screams externally and internally, ahhhhhhhhhh* OBSESSED...even though I'm the one who written it...
Just a little recap - Lola is distantly related to the Lebonair wolf-line as Giuseppe had an affair with a woman within the wolf pack which later continued to create the Lebonair bloodline.
Gonna try and get the next chapter out ASAP, hopefully tomorrow!!
Hope you enjoyed it!!
