The Map of Moments

"Wait..hold on.." Lola raises a brow towards Klaus as he continues to drive, avoiding her gaze, "You killed your father!?"

"I had no choice." Klaus drawls out as though this isn't the first times he's said those four words with such disdain, "I was protectingโ€”"

"Hope, I know." Lola sighs sinking into the passenger seat. She stares out of the window as the scenery flies past feeling her heart beginning to race once more.

"We're going to see our daughter."

Those words ring through Lola's mind for the millionth time in the past three hours. It felt surreal that soon she would be reunited with her baby girl, it didn't feel real. Why did it suddenly feel so hard to breathe?

It felt like a noose was tightening around Lola's neck the closer they got to the location where Rebekah and Elijah were with Hope. The heretic's throat felt dry, unable to coat the dryness that had formed.

Klaus glanced over, picking up on Lola's sudden silence. He knew Lola more than she knew herself, he knew when her emotions would get too much just like they are now.

He sighs softly, taking hold of her hand as he continues to drive, "Everything will be okay, my love. Our family is going to be complete again and I will never allow anything like this to happen again."

Lola closes her eyes, inhaling deeply and squeezing Klaus' hand, "It still doesn't feel real. That we are on our way to see her."

"I know," Klaus' tone was soft, not wanting to visibly show how anxious he also felt about seeing his daughter again. He had so many thoughts running through his mind, wondering it is was even the right choice to be seeing Hope again.

As Klaus navigated the winding roads towards the destination where their precious daughter awaited them, a whirlwind of emotions swirled within both him and Lola. The anticipation, the anxiety, and the sheer overwhelming rush of emotions threatened to consume them both as they hurtled closer to the moment they had been yearning for since their daughter's birth six months ago.

For Lola, the journey was an emotional rollercoaster. Her heart pounded with a mixture of excitement and trepidation. She couldn't shake the fear that had lingered within her ever since they had been forced apart from their baby girl. Thoughts raced through her mind, a torrent of hopes and fears colliding like waves against the shore. The weight of motherhood bore down on Lola, filling her with an overwhelming sense of responsibility and longing.

Beside her, Klaus gripped the steering wheel tightly, his knuckles turning white with tension. The journey had been a long and arduous one, filled with countless obstacles and challenges. But now, as they drew closer to their destination, Klaus couldn't help but feel a surge of hope coursing through him. He stole glances at Lola, seeing the mix of emotions playing across her face mirrored in his own heart.

A small blur is the distance made Lola sit up in her seat as the image began to get clearer, "Oh my god,"

The Salvatore felt like her heart as close to completely exploding out of her chest, hair sticking up at the back of her neck as the vision of her daughter becomes more visible. She barely even waited for Klaus to fully stop the car before she swung the door open, rushing towards the small house where Rebekah stood with Elijah who had Hope in his arms.

Rebekah and Elijah stood at the entrance of the safe house they once used a hundred years ago, their expressions a blend of relief and joy. In Elijah's arms Hope gurgled happily, unaware of the significance of the moment about to unfold.

The distance between Lola and her precious daughter seemed to vanish in an instant as the heretic rushed forward. Rebekah's eyes shimmered with tears as she watched the reunion unfold, her heart swelling with happiness. Elijah, ever the epitome of composure, smiled warmly as he handed Hope over to her parents, knowing the depth of their longing to hold her once more.

The closer Lola approached where Elijah and Rebekah stood the slower her steps got. Her breath caught in her throat as she drew closer, uncertainty clouding her mind. What if Hope didn't recognise her? What if the months of separation had blurred the bond between mother and daughter?

As she stood before them, Lola's eyes locked onto Hope's, searching desperately for any sign of recognition. For a fleeting moment, there was a flicker of uncertainty in the baby's gaze, a hesitation that sent a pang of fear through Lola's heart. Was it possible that Hope didn't remember her?

But then, as if sensing her mother's presence, Hope's expression softened. Her chubby cheeks dimpled into a smile, and she let out a delighted babble, reaching out tiny arms towards Lola. In that moment, all of Lola's fears melted away, replaced by a rush of overwhelming relief and joy.

Tears welled up in Lola's eyes as she reached out to take her daughter into her arms. As Hope was transferred from Elijah to Lola, the bond between mother and child ignited with a fierce intensity. Lola held her close, pressing kisses to her soft cheeks, whispering words of love and reassurance.

Lola closes her eyes, breathing out a deep and lasting sigh of relief as she feels her baby girl back in her arms after what felt like a lifetime of waiting for this pivotal moment. She swallowed down the lump in her throat that was the tipping point of Lola breaking down right there and then as she took in Hope's scent.

It was a feeling Klaus would struggle to explain as he slowly approached the love of his life holding the other love of his life. He felt so many emotions at once, he didn't know how to react at first when Lola slowly turned around with a smile he hasn't seen since the last time she held Hope in her arms; a smile born of happiness and pride.

With a faint nod of assurance, Lola stepped closer to Klaus and gently placed a babbling Hope into his arms. As Klaus held their daughter, Hope, in his arms, Lola felt a surge of emotion welling up within her. She watched him with teary eyes, marvelling at the sight of the man she loved cradling their precious child.

Elijah and Rebekah watched the tender reunion with quiet reverence, their own hearts touched by the raw emotion unfolding before them. Despite the doubts and fears that had plagued Lola's mind, it was clear that the bond between mother and daughter was unbreakable. In that moment of reunion, surrounded by love and family, Lola knew that nothing in the world could ever diminish the connection she shared with her daughter.

โ€”โœคโ€”

"Curse on the first-born?" Rebekah's face twists with confusion, adding wood onto the growing bonfire, "What the bloody hell is that supposed to be?"

"Well, according to Finn, our sister Freya didn't die of plague." Klaus began to explain, his expression softening for a moment as he glanced to Lola standing by his side holding onto Hope, "She was taken as payment by our aunt Dahlia, who then cursed all Mikaelson first borns for eternity."

"Is any of this even true?" Lola rolled her eyes as she swayed side to side with Hope babbling in her arms, "Your family aren't exactly the most trustworthy when it comes to their little riddles."

"It is true if we are to believe Finn, who learned it from the bastion of truth; our mother." Elijah drawls out in a subtle yet mocking tone.

"Well, no wonder Finn hates us." Rebekah scoffed, "He lost the sister he adored, and instead got a judgy pack of siblings who found him unbearably dull."

"Great." Lola dragged out in a sarcastic manner, "So, is there any chance of us running into your loony aunt Dahlia any time soon?"

"The fable's over a thousand years old. Dahlia is long dead."

Lola didn't even bother holding back a laugh at Elijah's words, giving him a deadpanned stare, "Yeah..right. Just like your mother, your father.." With pursed lips she glances over to Klaus, "Your biological father, oh and your brothers, shall I continue?"

"No one's going to hurt Hope, because no one's going to find her." Klaus tried to assure Lola but she wasn't buying it at all. Trouble follows the Mikaelson family whether they try to fight it or not. With an exasperated breath, Klaus glares over to his sister, "There's enough wood, Rebekah. You'll burn down the whole bloody state of Arkansas."

Rebekah wears a mischievous grin that matches the same one as Lola as the blonde Original shrugs, "Well, we're just missing a key ingredient!"

He looks towards Lola unimpressed, "Must you egg her on like this?" Klaus scoffed, hating the idea of the Mikaelson tradition, "No, we're not."

"Yes, we are, Nik!" Rebekah always loved the bonfire tradition, and the thought of Klaus disliking it? Well, it only made her enjoy the festivities even more, "Back us up, Elijah!"

An amused smirk twitches at the corner of Elijah's lips, "I suspect Niklaus would rather choke on the ashes."

"Do you have to be so boring," Lola scoffed, giving Klaus a playful glare before holding Hope up higher as the heretic wore a fake pet lip, "Look at this face. You can't say no to her beautiful face."

Klaus rolled his eyes but there was a hint of amusement in them, "You're going to do this a lot, aren't you?"

"Maybe." Lola smirked.

"It was Kol's favourite when we were kids!" Rebekah continued her tangent on the importance of the bonfire tradition.

"It's further evidence as to why we should ignore it!" Klaus retorted.

"It's Hope's first bonfire season, so it's happening," Lola shrugged, smiling at Hope in her arms before flashing a smug smile towards Klaus, "Deal with it."

Lola gasps softly, holding a giggling Hope in the air as she walks back towards the house, "We just won against daddy. Yes we did."

Klaus rolled his eyes Lola's actions but couldn't control the smile growing against his lips watching her with their daughter. Rebekah mimicked the same smug grin as Lola towards both her brothers before catching up to Lola inside the home, "Lola."

Just as Lola places Hope down onto the play mat, she look over to Rebekah who wears a soft smile walking in a wrapped up box, "There's something I want to give to you and given the season, it seems perfect."

Lola's face softened towards the Original, closing the gap and pulling her in an embrace, "Rebekah, you've already done enough. I know I keep saying it but thank you so much for taking care of Hope. You have no idea how grateful I am."

Rebekah's heart had never felt so full during the months she took care of Hope, it was a part of her life she really felt what her true meaning of life was supposed to be, to be a mother. Though she felt so much love and happiness towards her brother and Lola that they are finally reunited with their daughter, there was a part of Rebekah that hurt. Hurt because she would no longer be in the peaceful bubble raising Hope.

"It has been a blessing watching your little girl grow up, it felt so human." Breaking out of the embrace, Rebekah looks down at Hope whose eyes brightly shine up at the two women, "Though, I was fortunate to watch as Hope has grown, you haven't."

Lola sighs softly, "Rebekah, it's fine andโ€”"

"Here." Rebekah smiles, holding out the wrapped box further towards Lola, "You weren't able to be there in person to watch Hope grow but I wanted to create this for you. So that you have that piece of Hope's life, just in this form."

Lola unwrapped the package, revealing a leather-bound book adorned with delicate patterns and intricate designs. As she opened it, tears welled up in her eyes at the sight of what lay inside.

It was a meticulously crafted scrapbook, filled with photographs, mementos, and handwritten notes documenting every milestone, every giggle, every precious moment of Hope's early days. Each page was a testament to the love and care Rebekah had poured into looking after her niece, capturing the essence of Hope's personality and the joy she brought to everyone around her.

"Bex.." Lola whispered softly, her hands gently tracing along the details, "This is perfect."

As Lola flipped through the pages, her heart swelled with a bittersweet mixture of emotions. She traced her fingers over the images of Hope's first smile, her tiny hands reaching out for the world around her, her eyes filled with wonder and innocence. Each memory was a treasure, a reminder of the bond between mother and daughter that had never wavered, even in their time apart.

"She's so perfect." Lola whispered, her voice choked with emotion.

"Just like her mother." Rebekah's smile was soft, matching the tone of voice, "I've never been more thankful this beautiful girl has taken more of your traits than Nik's."

Lola laughed softly, eyes glistening with tears towards the girl she's classed as a sister for over a hundred years, "Thank you for this,"

As she closed the book, holding it close to her chest, Lola felt a deep sense of peace wash over her. Hope may have been in Rebekah's care for the first six months of her life, but now she was home, where she belonged. And with Rebekah's gift, Lola knew that every moment of Hope's journey had been cherished and celebrated, binding them together in a bond that could never be broken.

"God, you have no idea how much I've missed you, Bekah."

Rebekah wrapped Lola in a tight embrace, her own eyes glossed over with tears, "I suppose I have an inkling."

โ€”โœคโ€”

The scent of blooming flowers filled the air, mingling with the soft cooing of birds and the gentle rustle of leaves in the breeze. It was a scene of serenity and beauty, a perfect backdrop for a moment of quiet reflection.

As Lola gazed down at her daughter, a soft smile played at the corners of her lips as she sat on a blanket laid out. Hope's eyes, wide with curiosity, took in the world around her with a sense of wonder that never failed to captivate her mother. Tiny fingers reached out to touch the petals of nearby flowers, her laughter tinkling like music in the air.

In that moment, Lola felt an overwhelming sense of peace wash over her. Despite the challenges they had faced and the uncertainties that lay ahead, here in the garden, surrounded by the beauty of nature and the boundless love she felt for her daughter, everything felt right.

Unknown to Lola, Klaus stood at a distance, watching the scene unfold with a mixture of adoration and longing. His heart swelled with pride as he witnessed the deep connection between mother and daughter, a bond that was as unbreakable as it was pure.

"My father spoke about you." Klaus spoke softly as he sat beside Lola, "My real father."

Lola's nose scrunched up with a grimace, "Let me guess..he didn't appreciate the dog jokes."

Klaus chuckled, not surprised in the slightest Lola happened to throw a few insults towards his father, "Well, that was one thing he didn't mention but I had a feeling nonetheless that you couldn't help yourself when it came to those sorts of jokes."

"That's odd because the dog jokes were about 80% of the brief conversation I had with the man." Lola's brows knitted with confusion, glancing over to him, "So what did he say?"

"One of the last things he said to me was to hold onto you." There was more warmth in the hybrid's eyes than Lola has seen before, he smiles down at Hope in Lola's lap as the infant played with the bracelet against Lola's wrist, "That you and Hope are the peace I've needed for a thousand years."

As they sat together, Klaus reached out to gently stroke Hope's cheek, his touch tender and filled with affection. Lola leaned into him, resting her head against his shoulder, a sense of utter contentment washing over her.

Here, in the embrace of the man she loved, with their precious daughter nestled between them, she knew that she had everything she had ever dreamed of, "I want to be like this forever."

Lola's smile was so bright as she sat up straight, looking towards Klaus, "I want forever with you. I want to marry you. I just never want to be apart from you."

"Say that again." Klaus murmured softly, his hand cupping Lola's cheek.

Lola raised a brow, "I never want to be apart from you?"

"Before that."

"I want forever with you?" Lola teased with a smile, knowing what Klaus meant but still wanted to taunt him a little. She laughed as he squeezed her side for her teasing, "I want to marry you."

Though she may be the most frustrating woman that he knew, she had also made herself irreplaceable to him. She had become the woman that he wanted in his life the most because of how much she was able to make him laugh and feel so damn happy. For these reasons, he couldn't imagine a world without her now.

"I want to marry you." Klaus leaned closer, kissing Lola so softly his lips practically hovered as he smiled, "Right now."

Lola frowned yet smiled towards him, "Now?"

Klaus' smile only grew as he watched Lola's confused expression, "Right now."

"How are we supposed to do that?"

"I want to be with you forever, and you want to be with me forever." Klaus glanced at Lola, his heart swelling with love for the woman beside him. She was his anchor, his partner in all things, and he wanted nothing more than to vow his eternal devotion to her, "But in order to do that, we need to make vows, a commitment, a contract."

Lola raised a brow, narrowing a hesitant stare at him, "A contract?"

"A promise."

"How do you propose we do that?"

For Klaus, the weight of the moment was palpable. As a man who had lived for centuries, he had witnessed countless vows and promises, yet none held the significance of the ones he was about to make to Lola.

His heart swelled with a mixture of love and gratitude, knowing that he had finally found his true partner, his equal in every way, "We'll write vows on this piece of paper, agree to these vows together and then throw it into the bonfire and that will be our promise to stick by them, forever."

Lola's face softened, smile widening as she watched Klaus take out paper from his pocket with a pen, "You're serious?"

Klaus looked between the love of his life and the daughter he shared with her, sat on her lap babbling away happily, "What do you want our first promise to be?"

Lola felt a rush of emotions coursing through her veins. She had never imagined herself sitting beside a bonfire, writing wedding vows with the man she loved more than anything in the world.

Yet here she was, on the brink of pledging her heart and soul to Klaus, her rock, her protector, "That you'll love me, even when I vex you on a daily basis."

"To love each other, even when we're vexed towards each other." Klaus chuckled as he wrote their first promise down before his expression softened towards the heretic, "No lies. It's never worked in our favour, no lying. We're honest with each other."

It felt like a pinch me moment for Lola right now, to be here with the man she loved and their miracle nestled in her lap who had brought immeasurable light into their lives, "And we'll never give up on each other, just like you didn't give up on me when I switched my humanity off."

"And you didn't give up on me during the many, many occasions that you've stayed by my side." Klaus smiled lovingly towards her, "Always and forever. Now sign it."

"I have to sign it too?" Lola wears a teasing smile glancing down at the paper full of their promises, "This is our wedding?"

Klaus smirked as he held the pen up, "If you sign it."

As they finished writing, their eyes met in a silent understanding. These promises were more than just words on paper; they were a reflection of their deepest desires, their most heartfelt aspirations.

Lola watches as Klaus stands up, taking Hope out of her arms before holding his hand out for her as she smiles, "Now what?"

"Now I kiss the bride." With a tender kiss, he brushed a lock of hair from her face, his eyes softening with affection as he whispered words of love that resonated deep within her soul, "I love you, Mrs Mikaelson."

"Wow..name change already, huh?" Lola teased before her expression softened towards the man she'd now call her husband, "I love you."

Klaus passes Hope back to Lola who smiles brightly at her daughter, kissing her cheek to make the infant giggle, "We love you too, don't worry."

The glow of a match in Klaus' hand illuminates the look of love in his eyes before throwing it into the bonfire, the flames quickly spreading. His face softened looking over to Lola holding their daughter, "Care to do the honours?"

Lola's eyes glistened with the same level of love that Klaus had as she took the sheet of paper full of their promises to each other and threw them into the bonfire, "Does this mean you like the traditional bonfire now?"

Klaus chuckled, his hand intertwining with hers, "I love the bonfire now."

In that moment, surrounded by the flickering flames and the quiet beauty of the sun setting, Klaus and Lola felt a profound sense of unity. Their promises bound them together, forging a bond that was unbreakable, a testament to the power of love to overcome even the darkest of shadows. And as they held each other close, they knew that no matter what the future held, they would face it together, as partners, as lovers, as soulmates.
