Chapter 1

The Originals

"Are you sure this is a good idea, Lo?"

She can't help but roll her eyes at the concern flooding Adrianna's words as Lola continues to walk down the french quarter, "I don't know what else I'm supposed to do, Ade. I didn't want to believe Katherine and I really hate to admit it but, she was telling the truth. Before Hayley left Mystic Falls, I gave her a necklace but it wasn't just any necklace. I put a spell on it so I was able to track her with a locator spell without needing her blood."

"Where'd you learn that spell? Harry Potter?"

"Okay, sarcasm doesn't suit you. Leave that for me. But as I was saying, the spell shown that Hayley is here in New Orleans. I just don't know the exact location." Lola comes to a halt in the middle of the quarter, she glances over to a busy looking bar called Rousseau's, "If you were Hayley would you spend time in a trashy looking bar?"

"Whichever bar served the cheapest beer, that's where we'd always find Hayley."

"I think I've found the next place to look then. Okay, do you remember what you have to say if Klaus gets in touch with you?"

"This is the other thing that's a bad idea. Why haven't you told Klaus you're in New Orleans?"

Lola sighs as she looks around the quarter, still being hit with nostalgia even though it's change quite a bit since she was last here, "Because I don't want him to worry. You don't see his face whenever New Orleans gets brought up, it's still so raw for him. I'm not even going to be here long, I'm just grabbing Hayley and leaving."

"Fine, if Klaus calls then I say you're with me in New York. I hate this but fine. If anything happens though, Lo, I'm gonna kill you."

"Everything will be fine. I'll call you soon."

Lola walks into a busy looking Rousseau's bar, she walks straight over to the bar taking a seat when a barmaid walks straight over to her with a warm smile, "What can I get you?"

"Can I just get a water please?"

The blonde barmaid laughs slightly as she pours Lola a glass of water, "Wow, this is the first non alcoholic drink I've served while I've worked here. Not much of a drinker?"

Lola purses her lips as she shrugs, "Quite the opposite actually. I'm just not feeling great from the long travel to get here."

"Is it your first time in the big easy?"

"I used to live here actually." Lola smiles as she can hear the distant sound of jazz bands in the streets, being hit with hundreds of memories of the city, "Feels like a lifetime ago."

Lola can feel eyes watching her, she turns to see a brunette woman standing in the kitchen looking over to her. As soon as she sees Lola looking over, she glances away and continues cutting up food. The expression on the woman's face made Lola curious, it's as though she was expecting to see Lola sitting there and yet had a twist of surprise.

"So, what brings you back?" The barmaid questions making Lola jump out of her thoughts.

Lola clears her throat, turning her attention back to her, "I think a friend of mine is here, I'm just trying to figure out exactly where she'd be."

"Maybe I can help. We do get a lot of people in here but she may have stood out to me." Lola smiles at her offer, she pulls her phone out and shows her a picture of Hayley, "Come to think of it, she does look familiar. I'm sure I seen her in here a few times talking to Jane-Anne."

"Is Jane-Anne here?"

The barmaid looks around the bar and shakes her head but then perks up when she spots the same brunette woman who was looking over to Lola, "No, but her sister is." She gestures over to her standing in the kitchen, "There. Sophie."

Something in Lola's mind clicks, "Devereaux?"

"Yeah, do you know them?"

Lola smiles slightly at her, "I know of them. Thank you for your help." She narrows her eyes towards her name tag, "Camille."

Cami scoffs, "It's a grandma's name. Please, call me Cami. I need to get this name badge changed, men keep hitting on me in french. I didn't catch your name."

Lola holds her hand out, "Amelia." Cami smiles, shaking Lola's hand. It's been a long time since Lola lied about her name, however she deemed it necessary being back in New Orleans.ย

Lola stands from the bar about to walk away until Cami stops her, "Wait, this is going to sound creepy but have we met before? I swear you look really familiar."

She too can't help but think that Cami looks familiar to her but Lola just can't figure out why. She shakes her head, "No, I don't think so. I must just have one of those faces. Thank you for your help."

Lola begins to walk out of the bar through the back entrance, she can feel Sophie watching her as she does so. Lola waits for a moment in the alley way and it's not long after Sophie walks out looking around frantically.ย

Lola steps out from the side, behind Sophie, "Hello." Sophie jumps and turns around, wide eyed to see a smug looking Lola standing behind her, "I'm guessing by you following me out of this bar you know who I am?"

Sophie straightens up her posture, broadening her shoulders as she nods, "Lola Salvatore."

"Two options, we can play nice and you can tell me where my friend is and I'll be on my merry way." Lola tilts her head a cold smile appears, "Or I'll find something to use to pluck out your teeth until you tell me where my friend is. You're a Devereaux, I know Hayley was looking for you and your sister so I know you know where she is."

Lola's glare doesn't leave Sophie as the door behind her opens to reveal Jane-Anne, "Soph?"

"You must be Jane-Anne." Lola turns around to see Jane-Anne slowly walking down the steps towards the pair, "Where is Hayley Marshall?" Jane-Anne anxiously glances over Lola's shoulder towards Sophie making Lola roll her eyes, "Look, I'd rather my stay in this city come to an end as quick as possible so tell me where she is."

Jane-Anne stands beside her sister, "I can take you to her."

"What have you done to her?" Lola questions in a dry tone, glaring between both of the sisters, "If either of you have hurt her in anyway shape or form, I'll happily kill you both."

"Threats aren't going to work on us." Sophie snaps back in a harsh tone, "You either come with us or nothing."

Lola brows shoot up in surprise at her tone, she can't help but laugh as she steps closer to them both, "Oh, but you think threats would work on me? You both clearly know who I am so you probably know that I don't have a great deal of patience."

"You being back in this city isn't a coincidence." Sophie begins making Lola roll her eyes as she leans against the brick wall, "We need your help." Of course, New Orleans witches and their schemes. It may have been almost a hundred years but this is the one thing Lola doesn't missing being in this city, "I said we need your help!"

"You don't have to repeat yourself." Lola bluntly responds as she looks up towards the sky, "I ignored you just fine the first time."

"Please." Jane-Anne pleads as she steps closer to Lola, she places her hand on Lola's shoulder, "We're desperate."

Lola scoffs as she pushes herself away from the wall, "Clearly. Just take me to Hayley."

โ€”โœคโ€”

The Devereaux witches leads Lola into theย Lafayette Cemetery, her face twists with repulse as she looks around the cemetery, "Do you bring all the people you lure into this city to the cemetery? It's a bit morbid, don't you think?"

Both Sophie and Jane-Anne come to a halt next to one of the mausoleums, Jane-Anne gestures towards it, "She's through there."

Lola glances between them both confused as she walks between them towards it before turning around to face them, "That's it? You're just going to let me go in there and speak to Hayley? What's the catch?"

"There is no catch."

Lola narrows her eyes at them both, annoyance in her glare, "You are New Orleans witches, there is always a catch with you."

"Lola?"

Lola turns to face the mausoleum where she can hear Hayley's voice inside. She looks back over to the witches before walking into it to see Hayley sitting in the corner of it. Lola sighs with relief as she crouches down beside Hayley, "Oh, thank god. Are you okay?"

Hayley nods, pushing a motherly Lola away from her, "Yeah, I'm fine." Lola purses her lips slightly as she stands up straight looking down at Hayley before hitting the back of her head. Hayley groans at the hit, "What the hell was that for?"

"If you answered your phone like we agreed then I wouldn't be here." Lola remarks, "I told you not to trust witches."

"News flash, Lo..." Hayley drawls out, Lola looks at her. Her brows shooting up to gesture for Hayley to continue making Hayley laugh at how oblivious she can be, "You're a witch."

Lola mouth gapes open to quip something back but clamps shut as she shakes her head, "Shut up. What have they done to you?"

"They lured me out to the bayou which is when a bunch of witches attacked me and injected me with wolfsbane." Hayley explains as she stands up, "Then I woke up and I was here."

"What do they want with you?"

"It's not me they want." Hayley mumbles, she looks over to Lola awkwardly, trying to fathom the right words, "I was just their pawn to get you here, it's you they want."

Lola frowns, "Why the hell do they want me?"

"Don't do it. Please." Sophie pleads with her sister as they walk further into the cemetery, "What if I'm wrong about her?"

"That's the beauty of you-- you're never wrong. She's the only way we're gonna get to Klaus."

"Can we get someone else to do the spell?"

"Who?" Jane-Anne retorts as she begins to remove things out of her bag, placing them onto the floor, "Half the witches don't believe you, the other half are too scared."

An anxious Sophie paces around, "Because they know we're gonna get caught, Jane-Anne!"

"We don't have any other options, Sophie." Jane-Anne stands, taking hold of a teary-eyed Sophie's hands, "Now go. You know what you need to do."

Sophie hesitates for a moment before, agreeing with a quick nod. She walks back towards the mausoleum where Lola and Hayley are. Jane-Anne watches as she does so, she takes a deep breath before she kneels beside everything she emptied out of her bag, including a some of Lola's hair she slyly took outside of Rousseau's.

"This doesn't make any sense!" Lola exclaims as she paces around the mausoleum, "I haven't been in this city for almost a hundred years! Why do they suddenly need me back here?" Lola frowns as she begins to feel light-headed, her breathing becomes uneven as she leans against the brick wall for support.

Hayley frowns as she steps closer to her, "Lo? You okay?"

Lola clears her throat, "Yeah, I just-"ย

Lola takes a deep breath as she moves her hand away from the brick wall but the dizziness becomes stronger, her vision becomes blurred. Hayley catches her as Lola stumbles slightly before her vision goes completely black and she passes out.

"Lola? Hey, wake up!" Hayley gently brings her to the floor, shaking her slightly to try and wake her up when Sophie walks into the mausoleum. Hayley's eyes fill with rage as she glares over to her, "What the hell have you done to her?"

"She'll wake soon."

"So you keep me trapped here to lure Lola to then make her pass out with whatever creepy witch magic you've got going on?" Hayley's eyes soften as she looks down at the unconscious Lola in her arms before glaring back at Sophie, "She will kill you for this."

Sophie bows her head slightly before clearing her throat, moving the anxious thoughts about what her and her sister have just done, "Thanks to the spell my sister is performing she won't be able to."

โ€”โœคโ€”

Lola begins to stir awake, still in Hayley's hold. Hayley breathes out relief, "Thank god."

She clutches hold of her head as Lola begins to sit up, looking around dazed and confused, "What the hell happened?"

Sophie walks into the mausoleum, "Good, you're awake."

"No catch, huh?" Lola scoffs as she stands up, "You've got 30 seconds to tell me what you're playing at before I kill you."

"We need your help."

Lola laughs almost spitefully, "Yeah, I know. You've already said this but using magic to knock me unconscious isn't the best way to get my help."

"Lo," Hayley practically whispers as she takes hold of Lola's hand, "You need to listen to her."

Lola watches Hayley's face squirm with an anxious look, "Why are you pulling that face?" Hayley remains quiet, Lola looks over to Sophie who's face is cold, "Will someone just tell me what the hell is going on!"

"I've been having visions of you." Sophie explains.

Lola scoffs, "Well, I'm flattered about the kinky visions but I am spoken for."

"By Klaus Mikaelson."

Lola looks over to the witch amused as she crosses her arms against her chest, "Oh, you have been doing your homework."

"Word has got round that you broke the spell your aunt used against you." Sophie takes a step closer to Lola, "Now you're witch. Human."

Lola shrugs, "So what do you want? A gold star for stating the obvious?"

"What I want is your help." Sophie demands, "I need you to get Klaus back to the city."

"Then you'll ask him for help, I gather?" Lola concludes, getting a nodded response from Sophie. Lola can't help but laugh, "Do you honestly think that Klaus Mikaelson is going to help a bunch of irritating New Orleans witches? You're as stupid as I thought. More so, actually."

"You're right, we are witches of New Orleans." Sophie begins, "You have history with our ancestors. So you know that we are keepers of the balance. Which means we know when nature has cooked up something new."

Lola can't help but roll her eyes, growing more and more impatient, "We just keep going round in circles, this is pathetic. Well done, you learnt that I'm a witch after 146 years of being a vampire. You're wasting my time." Lola takes hold of Hayley's hand, "Hayley, we're leaving."

Hayley stays standing in the same spot, "You need to listen to her."

"I have been listening but the stupid bitch isn't making any sense." Lola seethes, "Last time I checked we aren't in the bat cave trying to figure out riddles."

"I have a special gift." Sophie speaks up, Lola turns to face her, gesturing her to continue, "I'm able to sense when a girl is pregnant."

Lola stares at Sophie blankly for a moment before glancing over to an awkward looking Hayley. She narrows her eyes at Hayley as she scoffs, "Oh, you didn't."

Hayley eyes widen as she shakes her head, "Lo-"

"I told you to stay away from Tyler Lockwood!" Lola scolds.

Hayley starts to shift in her spot, picking at her nails, "She isn't talking about me."

"Well, then what-" She catches Hayley's gaze when she glances down at Lola's stomach. Lola begins to laugh as she shakes her head, "This is a joke, right?" She glances over to Sophie who is showing no emotion on her face making Lola laugh even harder, "Oh, Sophie Devereaux, you are so funny." Sophie frowns over to her as Lola clears her throat to calm down her laughter, "That was a good joke."

"The spell my sister done which made you pass out confirmed my visions." Sophie explains while Lola is still laughing slightly, "You're pregnant, Lola. With Klaus Mikaelson's child."

"It's not possible." Lola's laughter dies down as she looks over to Sophie, she starts shaking her head in disbelief, "You're lying."

Sophie shakes her head, "It's not a lie. It's the truth."

Lola stares at Sophie with a deathly calm expression, "Klaus is a hybrid, he's been dead for a thousand years." She gestures to herself, "Also, may be a human now but I'm a human who is 168 years old. This is a pathetic invention of a story."

"Magic made Klaus a vampire, but he was born a werewolf." Sophie gestures over to Lola, "You were born a witch. Vampires may not be able to procreate but werewolves and witches can. This pregnancy is one of nature's loopholes."

"Why should I believe anything that comes out of your mouth?" Lola retorts but gets more silence from Sophie. She scoffs to herself, "I'm done with this."

Lola starts to walk out of the mausoleum until a witch, Agnes, blocks her from stepping out, "I'm sorry but you're not going anywhere."

"Who the hell are you?" Lola seethes as she steps closer to the witch, "Get out of my way."

Lola attempts to do magic against the witch but nothing happens, she stares down at her hands for a moment wondering what's happening until Sophie speaks up again,ย

"The spell also didn't just confirm the pregnancy. Until we remove the spell you're not able to perform magic."

Lola stays having her back to Sophie, facing Agnes. Lola starts to laugh in a bitter manner making Agnes look at her confused. The wicked smile leaves Lola's face as she glares over to the witch, her eyes turn dark as she grabs Agnes, pinning her against the brick wall. She pins Agnes' arms to her back,ย

"Luckily for me, I can do a lot more than just magic." She adds pressure to a certain part of Agnes' neck, making her scream out in pain. Lola laughs slightly before glaring over to Sophie, "If I keep adding more and more pressure to this point I'll paralyse your hocus pocus friend over here."

Another witch, Sabine, walks into the mausoleum heading straight over to Sophie, "Sophie, you need to tell her the whole story."

"What else are you going to tell me?" Lola scoffs, her grip getting tighter against Agnes, "Let me guess, this so called miracle child is Lucifer himself reborn."

"I believe you have history with Marcel."

Sophie mentioning his name makes Lola's posture freeze, she holds her breathe for a moment before releasing a shaky breath. Hayley picks up on Lola's sudden change in posture, "Who's Marcel?"

"What do you know about Marcel?" Lola demands Sophie, her voice breaking as she says his name.

"I know that he's alive. He didn't die like you all thought he did." Sophie informs, Lola releases her grip from Agnes, when she does, Agnes rushes over to stand beside Sophie and Sabine as Sophie continues, "Now he's running the quarter just like you all did a hundred years ago."

Lola scoffs, "I know you're full of shit. Marcel died in 1919."

Sophie shakes her head before she sighs, "He's out of control. He's run all the wolves out of town. Us witches are banned from performing any form of magic and if we do the punishment is death."

Lola's brows knit together as she looks over to her confused, "You said your sister performed a spell on me." Sophie bows her head and nods slightly, "So, she is just offering herself up to be killed?"

Sophie clears her throat as she looks back up at Lola, her eyes glossy, "My sister has risked her life to prove what I've been having visions of is true."

Lola glances around the eerie silent mausoleum, "I'm still missing the part where this so called pregnancy you claim is happening has anything to do with your problems with Marcel who is apparently alive and well."

"We need Klaus here. He is the key to stopping Marcel. If you do this then no one will find out about the newest member of the original family. Until Klaus comes back here, you're under our control." Sophie explains in a stern voice, she steps closer to Lola, looking over her shoulder towards Hayley, "We won't harm you in any way but that doesn't mean we won't harm those you love."

Lola's breath becomes rapid as her nostrils flare, looking away from the witches momentarily before she lets out a humourless laugh, glaring back at them, "How dare you use pathetic attempts of threats against me." She steps closer to them all as darkness and anger fills her eyes, "How dare you try to control me. None of this is going to work in your favour. You'll just end up dead. Whether it be me or Klaus, none of you are going to survive this. Especially if you harm Hayley any more than you already have. No one touches her."

Sophie glances between the two witches she stands between before looking back towards Lola with a pleading look, "Then help us."

โ€”โœคโ€”

In Mystic Falls, Klaus walks into the study and finds a folded up letter propped against the glass decanter with "Klaus" written on the front. The curiosity grows as Klaus picks it up, turning it over to see a wax seal with the letter "K" imprinted on it. He rips off the wax seal and opens the letter,ย

"Klaus, I hear Elijah has refused you the cure and in return, you have refused me my freedom. Shame on you both. But while you boys sort out your problems, I have one last thing to offer you. I've caught wind that there is a witch in New Orleans named Jane-Anneย Devereauxย plotting a move against you. Hunt her down. What she has to say will rattle you so deeply to your core that chasing little old me will be the least of your concerns. It's been a fun five centuries, Klaus, but I've worn down too many good heels running from you.

Love, and hate, Katerina."
