Chapter 57
A View To A Kill
Lola stirred for a moment, before lifting her head from Klaus' chest who wakes at the feeling of Lola moving away from him, "It feels strange waking up here with you." She notes regarding the change of scenery for them, now in her room at the boarding house, "It's like I'm in high school and I snuck up my rule breaking boyfriend into my room in the middle of the night."
Lola drops her head onto her pillow as Klaus leans over her, his hand snaking around her waist, "Well half of that is right."
She leaned up to him and caught his lips with hers, feeling his dumbstruck grin through their kiss, "Did you find Kol?"
"No." Klaus rolls his eyes as he moves out of the bed and begins to get dressed, "I did however discover that in between acting like a crazy man and attempting to kill our sister he's managed to absconder with all the daggers."
Lola scoffs as she pulls the covers over her face, "Of course he has."
"Which is why I'm going to retrieve the dagger that remains to be in the possession of Rebekah and use it on him."
Klaus pulls the covers from Lola's face, she frowns towards Klaus as she props herself up on her elbows, "You can't dagger Kol."
"Not only can I, I need to." Klaus corrects her, he picks up on the annoyed expression on his beloved's face making him sigh, "Kol's irrational fear towards Silas has pushed him over the edge, sweetheart. We need to put him down. By doing so it will also release Damon of the compulsion." He smirks over to her as he picks up his shirt, "I thought you'd be happy about that, no longer having to babysit your older brother."
"Let me talk to him." Lola demands as she moves from the bed, closing the gap between her and Klaus.
Klaus' eyes darted towards Lola, "No."
She sighs, "Nik, come on. He's not going to listen to you, Rebekah or anyone else. He doesn't trust anyone because everyone wants the cure for their own agendas, except me. I'm the only one who has no interest whatsoever in finding the cure, so let me talk to him."
Klaus shakes his head as he starts to walk towards the door, "It's not happening."
"Give me one good reason why."
Lola narrows her eyes at Klaus who steps closer to her with a glimmer of tease in his eyes, "I can give you several, starting with this." The corner of Klaus' lips perk as he slowly begins to unbutton his shirt that Lola is wearing, making sure his hands graze over her skin leaving goosebumps all over her body, "And this." With each button he undos, Klaus leaves a trail of kisses against Lola's body from her neck down to her bare stomach.
Lola squeezes her eyes shut as she tries to focus on keeping her balance upright and not focusing on Klaus' lips exploring her body, "You're trying to distract me with sex."
She can feels Klaus' smirk against her skin until he slowly comes to his feet and towers over her, "Is it working?"
"It's working."
She pulls Klaus' shirt over his head, throwing it to the floor. Their lips collide with each other in a passionate and heated kiss, both knowing how much each other wants this, not realising how long it's been until they're back in each others arms. Klaus grips hold of Lola's thighs, picking her up with ease then lowering her onto the bed without breaking from their kiss.
Lola can feel Klaus' smirk against her skin are his lips cascade down from her neck towards her stomach once more, no doubt because he can hear her heart racing through her chest. She bites her bottom lip to try and control herself until her eyes widen at the sound of her phone ringing on the dresser beside her.
The feel of Klaus' necklace graze against Lola's bare skin is electrifying as he hovers over her with a territorial look in his eyes, "Don't answer it."
Without even looking at who's calling, she ends the call, "I'm not. It's no one important." Lola runs her hands through Klaus' short curls and pulls him down towards her again, locking their lips even more impatient than before.
"No one important?" The voice says through the phone, making Lola and Klaus both freeze, they both slowly move their attention towards Lola's phone on the dresser as the voice begins to raise, "No one important?!"
Klaus' eyes meet Lola's, both sharing a confused expression, "You answered the phone?"
"I didn't mean to!" Lola snaps in a hushed tone, gesturing to both of their half naked bodies, "You were distracting me."
"Charlotte Amelia Salvatore, you can't ignore me!"
Klaus buries his face into the nape of Lola's neck while leaving a trail of kisses, "Just hang up."
Lola sighs, "She'll just keep ringing."
"She's right, I will. Then if you don't answer I'll just keep ringing again, and again, and again." Adrianna taunts at the other end, Lola is about to speak up until Adrianna beats her to it, already knowing what Lola was going to say, "Then even if you switch off your phone, Lo, I'll still be in your head. Maybe even singing along to something obscure like Pony-"
Lola moves her hands away from Klaus, raising them up in defeat, "Moment's gone." Klaus rolls his eyes and climbs off Lola and begins to get dressed once more as Lola sits on the edge of the bed and grabs her phone, "What could my beautiful and amazing best friend possibly want this early on a morning?"
"I want my stubborn and horny best friend to check her emails."
"Really?" Lola scoffs, "I give you compliments after you interrupted me and all I get back is stubborn and horny? All of this to check my emails? I never check my emails. I don't even think I have an email."
"Yes you do. Last time I seen you I set it up for this very moment."
"How do I even find my emails?"
Lola can practically hear Adrianna's eyes rolling from the other end, "Click the icon that's an envelope."
Lola looks through her phone while still on the call with Adrianna and finds the email icon, "Oh, look at that. I do have an email. Oh, free yoga membership!"
"Thank goodness for that, you'd have never been able to afford it." Klaus quips as he walks into the adjoining bathroom.
Lola throws a pillow in his direction before her attention gets snapped back to the email Adrianna is talking about, "Wait, this is a flight confirmation. For tonight."
"I don't want any excuses or hesitation. It's been too long since we've been in New York together so pack your bags and get your cute butt over here."
Lola rolls her eyes as she stands up from the bed, "Oh now I have a cute butt, what happened to stubborn and horny?"
"You are all three things. I'm sure Klaus won't mind me stealing you for a few days."
Klaus closes the gap behind Lola, placing his hands against Lola's hips, resting his chin against her shoulder, "On the contrary I think it's a brilliant idea."
Lola moves away from Klaus and glares over to him, "Yeah only so you get to dagger Kol because I won't be here to meddle."
A smug grin appears as Klaus begins to walk backwards towards the bedroom door, "Precisely."
"Ade, I'm gonna call you back." Lola throws the phone onto the bed and narrows her eyes towards Klaus, "It's not happening."
Klaus grips hold of his shirt Lola is wearing, pulling her closer to him, "What if I distract you again?"
Lola puts her hands on Klaus' chest and attempts to move away from him, "No."
In one swift motion, Klaus spins them around with Lola's back now against the door as his hands now place against Lola's bare waist, "Are you sure?"
She looks away as her cheeks begin to blush, "No."
Lola smiles broadly as Klaus pulls her closer to him as he leaves an array of kisses along her jawline down towards her neck until he suddenly stops and sighs in annoyance.
Lola pulls away from him and looks at him puzzled, "What?"
"Your brother is awake."
Lola nods slightly, her lips form a thin line to try and hold back her laughter as she pats Klaus on his chest, "Moment has definitely gone."
"Right well we all have our roles to play." Klaus starts as he puts on his coat, "You can continue to babysit until your flight and I will retrieve the dagger and put an end to all of this."
"Nik, I swear to god, don't you dare. It's going to end badly and you know it."
Klaus stands for a moment, shaking his head, attempting to shake away the ever-growing smirk that is forming, "Why don't you see it as just a simple conversation with my brother which is will end with him simply just...falling asleep."
Lola scoffs as she begins to pace, "Do you think I'm stupid?!" There was a short silence between the pair which gets interrupted when Klaus begins to laugh which makes Lola look at him unamused, "You think I'm stupid."
Klaus clears his throat to stop his laughter, he tries to compose himself looking down at the ground before looking back up at Lola, "I'm going to pay for that in a subtle way later, aren't I?"
Lola shrugs off the shirt, letting it fall to the floor leaving her in just her underwear as she walks into the bathroom, "It's not going to be that subtle."
-----------------------------------------------------
Lola hits a wooden stake against the bars on the door leading into the cell where Damon is residing in making him flinch slightly, "Rise and shine, big bro."
Damon continues to lay on his front on the ground, he squints his eyes as he lifts his head up looking over to see his younger sister with a smug grin on her face, "Here's me thinking Stef was enjoying me being down here, you're really enjoying it."
"Got you some breakfast, aged just how you like it." Lola throws in a small vial of blood, it lands just in front of Damon as she shrugs, "Problem is it's less than a shot of tequila."
Damon grunts as he attempts to lift his head up higher, "I get that you're mad about me and Elena and you don't agree with us together but can I have nice Lola this morning? Instead of this gloating, sarcastic Lola?"
"You don't deserve nice Lola." Lola snaps, she sighed as she ran her hand through her hair, "Look, it's not that I don't agree about the two of you being together. It is slightly disgusting but that's not why I'm angry with you."
"Well do share, lil sis." Damon croaks with his famous smirk plastered on his face, "We got plenty of time down here."
"You can't help who you fall for. I know that. But what annoyed me is how you went about it, D. You broke Stef's heart."
Damon's heart sinks a little when he sees a mixture of sadness and disappointment in his sister's eyes, he sighs lowering his head back against the ground, "It was never my plan to hurt him."
"I know it wasn't. But you should have at least took his feelings into consideration, just like I said to you at the pageant. Okay, I get it. You and Elena are in love, congratulations!" Lola scoffs lightly, "But did you really have to kick off your epic romance the day after Elena breaks up with Stefan?! That's low, D, even for you."
"I know, I know!" Damon exclaims, "If I could turn back the clock it wouldn't have happened that soon."
"Problem is, Damon, you believe yourself when you say that." Lola's voice is low and gentle, she pauses making Damon look back up towards her, "But that's not the truth, deep down you know that."
Lola turns to walk back upstairs until Damon croaks, "Don't go." She turns back to see a pleading look in his eyes, "Please? It sucks being down here on my own and I wanna spend time with my sister."
Lola hesitates for a moment before she crosses her arms against her chest, "Fine. But no more talk about you and Elena."
Damon purses his lips, he rests his chin against his hands, "Maybe you could tell me how it was possible for my sister to be in love with someone like Klaus Mikaelson."
"Yeah, we're not talking about that. I'm vetoing it."
"Come on, what is it about him?"
Lola smiles faintly, "We're the same."
"You're the same?" Damon deadpans, "What, you go on killing sprees together? Join in when he daggers his family?"
"I wish I could dagger you." Lola mutters as she rolls her eyes, "We don't have to explain how we work to anyone because it's nobody's business."
"Doesn't it bother you thinking about everything he's done?"
"I started acting like I didn't care." Lola purses her lips pretending to be in thought then shrugs, "But then I realised I really wasn't pretending and I actually didn't care."
Damon narrows his eyes towards his sister, "I know that's not true, baby sis."
"What makes you think you know what's the truth and what's not?" Lola retorts, her words showing the annoyance she is growing towards Damon, "You knew a past version of me. Maybe you just don't know this version of me as well as you think you do." She clears her throat, allowing her words to sink in for Damon who looks away from her with a sorrow look in his eyes, "I'm finished talking, I've got a flight to catch."
"Let me guess, you're off to some sunny destination to get away from the drama and probably make children cry in the process." Damon quips.
"No, Adrianna is practically forcing me to meet up with her in New York."
"Just you?"
Lola lets out a dry laugh, "Well, obviously. You and Adrianna don't exactly get along after the whole drama in '92."
Damon rolls his eyes, cringing at the memory, "Don't remind me. I meant, you are actually going to spend time away from your psycho hybrid of a boyfriend?"
Lola shrugs and gestures to the empty space around her, "I'm spending time away from him right now."
"I heard you sneak him in last night, just couldn't go two minutes without seeing him could you?"
Lola stares blankly at her brother for a moment, "I'm not a teenager, D. There was no sneaking Klaus here last night." Her face twists with grimace, "Good to know everything you said at the pageant was a load of bullshit."
It stays silent between the pair until Stefan walks down the stairs, giving Lola a soft smile before standing beside her and watches their brother continue to lay on the ground inside the cell.
Noticing his brother's presence, Damon looks up, "You coming to snap my neck again? Because I woke up feeling completely un-murderous, and I'm pretty sure that it's safe to set me free."
Stefan retrieves a vial of blood out of his pocket until Lola speaks up, "I've already gave him some blood."
Stefan nods, not bothering to hide his smug grin as he puts the vial of blood back in his pocket making Damon groan with annoyance, "Oh man, really? You practically bled me dry. At least spring for a bag or something. I'm thirsty." Stefan waves around a bottle of water before putting it between the bars of the door, Damon looks over to the bottle and scoffs slightly, "Not exactly what I had in mind."
Lola turns to see Klaus standing beside her with a smug expression. He slowly walks past her, allowing his hand to trail against her lower back sending shiver up her spine.
Damon slowly stands up, groaning as he does so, he walks towards the door and grabs the water bottle. He frowns when he notices Klaus standing on the other side of the door who continues to wear the same smug grin, "Hello, mate."
Damon frowns at him, "What the hell are you doing here?"
Klaus grins at the older Salvatore, "Babysitting."
Damon's eyebrows shoot up in fake surprise, "Oh."
"Give him a vial of blood every couple of hours, so he doesn't desiccate." Stefan hands Klaus a few vials of blood, "If he gets too much strength back, or if he just annoys you, bleed him out again."
Damon grips hold of the bars, raising a brow towards Stefan, "Silent treatment, huh? Is that your best shot?" He looks over to Klaus with an impassive expression as he shrugs his shoulders, "He's still pissed at me for sleeping with Elena."
"You sure about that?" Klaus retorts, his smug grin growing by the second, "'Cause I saw him trying to sneak out of Rebekah's bed this morning, which would suggest to me that he's moved on."
Stefan sighs, shaking his head then looking towards the ground as Lola's eyes widen watching her younger brother neither confirm nor deny making her bite the inside of her cheek to stop herself from laughing.
"Well, well." Damon scoffs, "Looks like my brother ripped out a page of my revenge-sex handbook."
Stefan stands up straight from leaning against the wall, "Well, why don't you two enjoy your little, uh, villain bonding time? I'll let you know when I get the dagger from Rebekah." He walks past both Klaus and Lola, giving her a reassured smile.
Lola turns to watch Stefan walk back upstairs before her expression turns hard looking towards Klaus, "I said let me talk to him."
Klaus' eyes meet Lola's with a harsh stare, "And I said no."
Lola scoffs, crossing her arms against her, "You can't tell me what to do."
"It's true, you can't." Damon drawls out as he watches the pair's domestic, "She's a stubborn one over here."
"Shut up, Damon." Lola scowls her brothers before turning her attention back to Klaus, "You can't just expect me to let you go through with this."
Klaus steps closer to Lola, with a hardened stare, "I expect you to go to New York as planned and stay safe."
"Kol won't hurt me." Klaus laughs dryly at Lola's statement, shaking his head looking away from her making Lola step closer to him as she glares at him, "He won't."
"You have two options, love." Klaus begins, he gestures towards Damon who continues to watch the pair, "You either stay here and continue to babysit your brother or you go to New York."
Lola clenches her jaw as she looks over to a smug looking Damon, then back to Klaus before turning on her heel and walking back upstairs.
Klaus watches as she storms away, trying to ignore the sting in his chest that Lola could be right that his plan is going to end badly.
Damon chuckles as he drags himself over to the cot within the cell, "You do realise she isn't going to listen to you."
Klaus opens the cell door, stepping in and glares over to Damon, "What makes you such a sudden expert when it comes to Lola?"
Damon shrugs his shoulders before laying down on the cot, "She's my sister, I know her."
Klaus smiles, grimly, "Well you say that and yet you only discovered about her witch heritage a month ago." Damon looks up at Klaus annoyed, making Klaus' grin broader, "I wonder how many other things you don't know about your sister."
Damon ignores the dig, picking up the lid from the vial off the ground and begins to toss it up in the air. Klaus starts to pace around the cell, "You know, none of this would be an issue if you'd have just done your job properly. I was perfectly willing to let you train Jeremy."
Damon scoffs, glancing up at Klaus, "No, you weren't. Are you kidding? You got there day two. Do you know how hard it is to get these Xbox brains to focus?"
Klaus continues to pace, "And then when I turned a room full of barflies into vampires for him to slaughter, you let Kol kill them."
"Your brother problem, not mine, buddy."
"And whose bright idea was it to saddle Jeremy with a conscience, hmm?"
Damon frowns over to Klaus, "Well, we couldn't have him trying to stake Elena in her sleep, now, could we?"
"Ah, yes, for the love of Elena." Klaus mocks, "How is it that she manages to overlook every horrific thing you've ever done? Is it wilful ignorance, or perhaps something more pathological?"
"Some people are just more capable of forgiveness than others." Damon grunts impassively, "Bet you score about a negative 500 in that realm."
Klaus grins, "Come on. There must be a secret. It can't just be the sire bond. What is it? Compulsion? Manipulation?" Klaus stops pacing and faces Damon, "What is it you say to her?"
Damon catches what he's throwing, he raises a brow in interest as he sits up, "I think you're talking about a certain blonde Salvatore and I'm not talking about Stefan. You're worried by going through with this plan to dagger your brother, Lola won't forgive you. Something tells me it's not just that one reason."
Klaus clenched his hands into fists, despising that Damon's words relate to their current situation. It was true that there was a part of Klaus that has been keeping him back and it's been ever since he killed Carol Lockwood. He's never been able to get the vision of Lola standing behind him at the fountain, a look he's never seen in her eyes aimed at him; fear.
"We've been through worse." Klaus snaps back, "One instance I remember in particular was back in 1919 when you almost killed your sister."
Damon's face drops, turning cold, "We moved passed that."
"Have you indeed?" Klaus taunts, "Let's talk about how you would always chose the love of a doppelgänger over your family. 1919 you staked Lola because she wouldn't help you release Katerina from the tomb, back in 1864 you promised Stefan an eternity of misery because he forced you to turn into a vampire after thinking your beloved Katerina died in the town's fire. Now that's a bit dramatic for my liking, but I wonder if Stefan realised the eternity of misery continues on with yet another doppelgänger. Not to mention you completely disregard Lola when you gain infatuation for the doppelgängers."
"Go ahead, Klaus." Damon rolls his eyes, "Lay it on me about all the bad things that has happened between me and my family. See, I don't mind being the bad guy, because somebody has to fill that role and get things done. You do bad things for no reason. You do them to be a dick."
Klaus glares at Damon, "Debatable."
Damon shrugs, pursing his lips slightly, "If you're gonna be bad, be bad with a purpose. Otherwise, you're just not worth forgiving."
"So what was your purpose when you killed young Jeremy? Wasn't it just because back then Elena didn't share the same feelings as you?" Klaus laughs slightly knowing his words are getting to Damon who begins to tense up, "You know, as much as you'd hate to admit it, we are similar, Damon."
Damon's face twists with disgust before he scoffs, "Well we both have a brother who acts like a saint and a sister who can be the most annoying creature on the planet."
Klaus smirks at Damon's words, "I'm talking about how we try to stay clear from the darkness that consumes us when it comes to those we truly love."
Damon's eyes spark in interest, he narrows them towards Klaus, "Are you saying that my sister is that person for you?"
Klaus shrugs his shoulders as he continues to pace, "I believe your sister changed me for the better, Damon. Whether people agree or not."
Damon lies back down and sighs, "I feel like it's about time I give you my older brother grilling when it comes to whatever the hell you have going on with Lola."
Klaus rolls his eyes, turning away from Damon, "This is why daggers need to work on you."
"How'd you meet? Murderers Anonymous? Oh, wait I know." Damon looks over to Klaus, eyes full of mischief, "She stabbed you with a fork, didn't she? It was love at first fork stabbing."
Klaus scoffs as he gestures down to Damon, "It's no wonder she moved away from you all those years ago. I honestly don't know how she puts up with you and all these incessant questions."
Damon sits up, propped up on his elbows as he narrows his eyes towards Klaus, "How did you, Klaus Mikaelson, feared by all, fall for my sister?"
Klaus contemplates whether to even respond to Damon, but then he simply shrugs his shoulders, "We're the same. For example, we don't have to explain ourselves to anyone and more importantly, we don't want to." Damon shakes his head slightly as he tries to fight back his grin making Klaus grow more annoyed, "Something amusing?"
Damon laughs before he looks up at Klaus, "She said the exact same thing. There is one thing though." Damon sits up and shuffles to the edge of the cot, joining his hands together leaning against his lap, "Lola is human again. You didn't know her when she was human, but I did. And this life that you've both been living, isn't going to do it for her. Maybe for another year or so, but sooner or later, Lola is going to age like a regular human while you stay you. How do you think it will feel for her to age when you just stay how you are? Maybe she'll want a family, it's not like you can do that for her." He shrugs his shoulders nonchalant, "That's the thing when it comes to Lola, she doesn't want something until she knows she can't have it. It's been like that ever since we were kids and I doubt it's gonna change now."
-------------------------------------------
At the Gilbert residence, Kol is standing in the family room playing on one of Jeremy's video games after Elena invited him inside and offering a truce. Elena walks through the kitchen and looks into the family room holding up a bottle of gin, "Sorry, I had to dig up the old people alcohol."
Kol turns around and pauses the game, he scoffs lightly as he walks into the kitchen, "Yeah, that's the problem with people today. They have no drinking imagination. Turn-of-the-century New Orleans – now, they knew how to make a drink."
"You lived in New Orleans?"
"We all did."
Elena shifts slightly in her spot beside the island in the kitchen, "Is that where you all met Lola?"
Kol nods, "In 1887, yes."
"What was she like back then? Was she-"
"A selfish person who only thought of herself?" Kol interrupts Elena with exactly what she called Lola the day prior making Elena's eyes widen in shock, "I heard about your little confrontation with her yesterday, she told me all about it through one of her many voicemails."
Elena laughs nervously as she opens the bottle of gin, "It was just a heat of the moment thing, I didn't-"
Kol frowns and puts his hand up gesturing for Elena to stop, "Spare me whatever apology you are trying to put across, you can save that for Lottie. But to answer your previous question, she was happy."
Elena frowns at Kol's words, "Was?"
Kol sighs and leans against the island counter, "Lottie was a different person back then, she was like a free spirit. Granted our family was never shy of drama in the city but there's something different about her now, she's changed." He frowns thinking back to their time a hundred years ago while Elena listens intently, "It's as though there is something weighing her down. I assume it has something to do with her brothers, she wasn't exactly on speaking terms with them both during our time in New Orleans. We were all relatively happy at over the years we had there."
"What changed?"
Kol's demeanour changes as his shoulders stiffen, looking over to Elena with a blank expression, "Niklaus shoved a dagger in my heart."
"Why?" Elena questions as she turns around and grabs two glasses, "What did you do?"
"What makes you think I did anything?" Kol snaps back, "Has your alliance with my brother softened you to his horrors?"
Elena shakes her head as she approaches the island counter again, "I don't have an alliance with Klaus. We had a mutual interest in finding the cure – that's all."
Kol narrows his eyes towards the doppelgänger, "Had?"
"Yes. And I'm willing to give up looking for it if you promise to leave my brother alone." Elena offers her truce, when Kol doesn't respond she picks up the drinks mixer, "Now, can you teach me how to make this?" Elena smiles slightly as Kol takes the mixer, "I'll get some ice."
Elena watches as Kol pours the gin into a glass as she opens up the refrigerator and pulls out her phone to reveal a text from Jeremy,
"Trying to find B. KEEP KOL THERE."
Elena gets a bowl of ice and closes the door when Kol is standing right behind the door, startling her. She brushes off her shock and holds the bowl of ice out offering it to Kol, "Here you go."
"Would you like one?"
Elena hesitates briefly before shrugging her shoulders, "Sure, why not?" She follows Kol back towards the island counter as he puts ice in both of the drinks. Elena clears her throat with what Kol said earlier still playing on her mind, "You said that Lola didn't stay in touch with Damon or Stefan when she lived in New Orleans." Kol raises his head slightly gesturing for her to continue, "Was it like that the entire time she was with your family?"
"Are you trying to insinuate it was my family's doing?" Kol asks in a harsh tone, Elena's eyes widen and mouth agape but Kol continues without giving her a chance to respond, "It may be hard for you to hear that Damon or Stefan could potentially be in the wrong but in this case they were. It seems to be very rare that Lottie will decide on what's best for herself and coming to New Orleans all those years ago was the first time she did so and if it was up to me, she'd think like that again and leave this town."
---------------------------------------------
Lola has spent the last couple of hours trying to get in touch with Kol but has proven impossible, she has left him several voicemails but has had no luck getting a call back. She has pushed back her time as much as possible but her flight to New York is in an hour and with Adrianna constantly ringing her to make sure she's actually going to get on the flight, it's for the best she gets on the plane.
Lola grows anxious that Kol hasn't got back in touch, she fears that Klaus has already got to him and has daggered him. She knows the lack of trust Kol has towards everyone and is honestly understandable when there is a threat always looming that he could be daggered once more. She gives in to her thoughts and realising there wouldn't be anything she could do to prevent this, she just hopes that Klaus would undagger him while she is still alive to then spend the rest of her human days apologising to her best friend.
With her bag in her hand she rushes down the stairs of the mansion when her phone rings, a small part of her hoping it's Kol but as she predicted it's Adrianna, "You don't have to keep ringing me, Ade. I'm literally about to leave right now. Just please have a bottle of tequila waiting for me when I get there."
"I'll do one better, I'll have one waiting for you at the airport when I pick you up."
Lola can't wipe away the grin on her face, it's the little things that Adrianna does that makes her grateful their friendship still continues after so many decades, "I'll see you soon." She hangs up the phone and walks towards the front door, as she opens it Kol is at the other side of the door. She drops her bags, sighing with relief as she sees him, "There you are! I've been trying to call you all day."
Kol pushes past Lola and steps into the mansion, "And I've been ignoring you all day."
Lola scoffs as she closes the door behind them both, she has a playful smirk on her face, "Come on, you're not still mad about my little Silas joke from the other day, are you?"
Kol glares over to Lola, "I'm glad you find this entire situation amusing, Lottie."
"Why don't we just take a step back for a second and look back at everything that's happened?" Lola suggests, "Can we do that? For instance, what did you hope to gain when you compelled Damon to kill Jeremy?"
"No one can find the cure because in order to find the cure they find Silas." Kol shrugs, "If your brother kills Jeremy then no one will have access to the map."
"Right, the evil Silas who even Kol Mikaelson fears. But if Damon kills Jeremy then he has the hunter's curse for who knows how long."
"Better him than me." Kol sends Lola a vicious glare, "If you were smart you would be in fear of Silas too. Besides, I've just spoken to Elena and she has offered a truce."
"A truce?" Lola echoes in a spiteful manner, "You are expecting me to believe that Elena freaking Gilbert has offered you a truce? Let me guess, she will stop their search for the cure?" Kol puts his hands into his coat pockets as he nods making Lola let out a scornful laugh, "Now who isn't smart."
"You weren't there so you cannot possibly comment on what happened."
Lola smiles to herself, stepping closer to Kol, "No I wasn't there but I can guarantee I know what was said. First of all, she invited you into the house, correct?" She can tell by Kol's face she's right making her laugh slightly, "That was a dumb move on your part. Then no doubt tried to warm you up with a bit of alcohol, Ric used to live there so there is definitely no shortage of booze in that house." She sighs dramatically, putting a fake pet lip on, "Then I bet she went on about her first and only kill, poor Elena."
Kol narrows his glare towards Lola, "Care to explain why it was a dumb move on my part to be invited into their home?"
"Are you seriously asking that?" Lola deadpans, "Come on, Kol, you're not really this stupid are you? They've got you right where they want you! Don't you see it?"
Kol shakes his head in disbelief that someone he considered close is chasing the side against him, "You're underestimating me, Lottie. They can't do anything." He reaches inside his coat and reveals the white oak stake, "At least not without this and they won't get chance to even get near it. I thought we were friends, but you're just like the rest of them." His eyes turn cold as he steps closer to Lola, still holding onto the white oak stake, "Now, I know you love putting yourself in situations you shouldn't but I can't let you continue doing so."
Lolas entire body trembles as she steps away from Kol who has a horrified look in his eyes as he takes one step closer every step she steps backwards. A look Lola is familiar with but never having it aimed at herself, "You wouldn't actually hurt me, would you?" He doesn't respond, Kol continues to step closer to Lola making her step backwards, "Kol, come on. Think about this, I'm trying to protect you!"
"I don't need your protection!" Kol seethes, "Don't even pretend that I am truly a part of this family, the stupid always and forever vow was never meant for me. I'm seeing my plan through then I'll be going after Niklaus and you can't stop it from happening."
Not knowing what to do, Lola panics and grabs her phone out of her pocket to try and ringing someone, anyone but Kol vamp speeds in front of her blocking her from moving away. He grabs her phone out of her hold and throws it to the other side of the foyer.
Lola has a horrified look towards someone she considered to be a best friend, a brother, "Kol, please."
Kol hits Lola across her head with the white oak stake, knocking her out instantly. Kol looks down at Lola's unconscious body as his breathing becomes erratic. He looks around in panic, not knowing what to do next, whether or not his brother was planning on daggering him he knows that he definitely will now.
Kol picks Lola up and carries her down into the basement, lowering her onto the bed that is still in one of Klaus' many art rooms, the same room Elena resided in when she had the hunter's curse. He blinks away tears as he looks down at his best friend he has just betrayed, he dabs away the blood that is on her forehead from the blow, "I'm sorry, Lottie. I'll come back for you when this is over."
---------------------------------------------
Back at the boarding house, Klaus soon grows impatient that Stefan continues to not answer his calls, "Your brother's lack of communication is infuriating."
"It's one of his trademarks." Damon mumbles, "Like his brooding and his hair. Just like Lola's trademarks are her stubbornness and love of forks. All us Salvatores have got 'em."
Klaus pushes back the odd feeling at the mention of Lola's name, feeling as though something has happened. However, he pushes it back, hoping that her ignoring his messages just means she has actually got on the flight to New York.
"I don't understand what's taking so long." Klaus exclaims, "I mean, how hard is it to steal a dagger?"
"From a vampire who's been stabbed as many times as your sister, I'd say difficult." Damon jests. Klaus sighs as he takes a vial of blood out of his pocket, glancing down at it before throwing it towards Damon. Damon bends down to pick up the vial, "Sweet."
"You disappoint me, Damon." Klaus taunts, "You're not trying very hard to get out of here. I expected more the daring escape artist, less the cell potato."
"Well, I am compelled to kill Jeremy, so I figured it's probably smarter to sit here and chit-chat with you than bust out of here like the Hulk."
"How do you think Elena felt about that, by the way?" Klaus continues his taunting, Damon's face hardens at his words, "Your inability to overcome Kol's compulsion for a single moment even though it meant saving the person she loves most in the world?"
"She's met me. She knows impulse control's not my strong suit."
Klaus grins as he steps further into the cell, "Still, must be hard trying to live up to Stefan. I remember when I compelled him to feed off Elena. He fought it so hard, he actually managed to resist. Now, that's love."
"What do you know about love?" Damon retorts before pulling a face of disgust, "Oh, right. You and Lola."
"I know that you're in love with Elena. But I think you're afraid of what might happen when we find the cure at the end of the rainbow." Klaus shrugs, "Personally, I don't see a fairytale ending for you. All I see is Stefan and Elena. I think you see the same thing."
Damon stays quiet, taking in all of Klaus' words before he looks back up to Klaus and scoffs, "I'm sure if for whatever reason my sister can overlook everything that you've done, Elena and I won't have a problem. You may not see a fairytale ending for us but I could say exactly the same thing about you and Lola." It is now Klaus' turn for his face to drop as Damon continues to taunt, "Based on your reaction earlier, deep down you know that one day Lola could leave you. My sister is many things, she's stubborn, she acts cold and can be a real bitch when she wants to be. If she was here right now she would agree with everything I've just said. But, underneath all of that her heart is pure and it will only be a matter of time before it pulls her away from the darkness."
Silently, Klaus glares at an smug looking Damon who drinks the vial of blood. Until Klaus' phone begins to ring, he looks at the screen to see it's Kol, "Well, if it isn't the happy homicidal maniac."
"Did you know that your darling former blood bag and her brother are trying to kill me?"
"What?"
"Don't pretend like you're not in on it. Your obsession to find the cure clearly trumps any sibling loyalty you once felt."
"I don't know what you're talking about."
"I'm going to rip off Jeremy's arm and kill Elena just for sport. Then I'm coming for you."
Kol hangs up the phone, Klaus angrily steps towards Damon, grabbing him by the neck and shoving him against the wall, "What the hell's going on?"
Damon struggles in Klaus' grip, "I don't know."
Klaus' grip becomes tighter around Damon's neck, "What are Stefan and Elena planning?"
"I don't know. I've been stuck in the penalty box with you since yesterday. Stefan won't talk to me, and Elena won't come to see me, so maybe you're right. Maybe she's written me off."
"Tell me what you know." Klaus compels Damon.
"I don't know anything about a plan."
"Stay here till I return." Klaus releases Damon from his grip and storms out of the cell, slamming the door behind him.
Damon falls down onto the cot as he regains his breath, "I will stay here until you return..." He glances down towards the bottle of water Stefan gave him earlier which is laced with vervain, "...or not."
----------------------------------------------
At the Gilbert house, Elena is upstairs with a makeshift stake through her stomach, trapping her against the wall. Kol drags Jeremy down the stairs and into the kitchen where he puts him onto the island counter, strapping his arms to stop him from escaping.
Kol pulls out a cleaver knife out of the knife block, "Now, like I said, I don't fancy the hunter's curse, so I'm just going to chop off your arm. But don't worry, I'll heal you right up with a bit of blood after." Kol holds Jeremy's head against the counter, "Sorry about the sting." He frowns as he glances between both of Jeremy's arms, "Now, which arm is it? Is it left or right? I'll just chop off both to be safe."
Jeremy shuts his eyes tight, waiting for the impact of the knife when suddenly Elena appears, grabbing Kol which makes the cleaver miss Jeremy and instead cuts through one of Jeremy's restraints. Elena slams the cleaver into Kol's chest, making him scream out in pain as she shoves him against the counter.
Jeremy releases himself out of the other restraint and rushes over to the sink where he grabs the spray hose and sprays Kol with the vervain laced water, Elena moves away from Kol as he screams at the burning of the vervain.
Jeremy keeps the water on Kol as Elena reaches over to Kol and grabbing the white oak stake out from Kol's jacket, "Jeremy, now!"
Elena throws the stake over to Jeremy who swiftly catches it and stakes Kol directly into his heart. Kol screams out in pain and bursts into flames. He continues to scream as he staggers through the kitchen, both Elena and Jeremy moving out the way from him.
Kol falls to the floor as the flames die down, leaving Kol's body completely charred. Elena looks up to see Jeremy staring at something behind her, she follows his gaze to see Klaus standing in the doorway of the house, his eyes wide as he looks down at his deceased brother.
His glare slowly moves up towards the Gilbert's as he anger becomes stronger, a stray tear falling down his cheek, "What did you do?"
"We didn't have a choice." Elena panics, "He was trying to cut off Jeremy's arm!"
"Lies!" Klaus seethes through gritted teeth, "He never would've gotten inside if you hadn't have set a trap for him."
"You said you were going to put him down too."
"I was going to make him suffer on my terms!" Klaus bellows, his words becoming more and more furious. He sighs as he looks around the house, "I'm going to burn this house to the ground. And then, when you try to flee for your lives, I'll kill you both without blinking."
"You kill us, you'll never get to the cure." Jeremy states, "You'll never be able to make any more hybrids."
"You really think I care for an instant about my bloody hybrids?" Klaus retorts with venom seeping through his words, "I want the cure so I can destoy it. I would've killed you all the second we dug it up, but now I'm just gonna watch you burn instead."
Klaus falls to the ground, crying out in pain as his bones break. Bonnie walks past him and steps into the house, "Invite him in." Elena and Jeremy look at Bonnie confused, "Do it!"
Klaus fights through the pain and comes to a stand, he glares over to Jeremy who hesitates for a moment before saying, "Come in."
Klaus falls forward into the house as Bonnie magically pulls him in, immobilising him. Bonnie turns to face the Gilberts, "Living room. Go!"
Elena and Jeremy run through the living room and into the kitchen, Klaus follows them but an invisible barrier makes it though he can't follow them into the kitchen. Klaus slams his hand against the barrier, trying to break it but it's no use. He quickly tries to run the way he entered but the barrier continues blocking him in with Bonnie standing next to the barrier.
Both Elena and Jeremy stand by the front door as Klaus glares at Bonnie, "Witch, you can't do this to me."
Bonnie takes a step closer to the barrier, "You have no idea what I can do now."
She turns to walk away, gesturing for the dumbfounded looking Gilberts to follow her out of the door.
"I will hunt all of you to your end!" Klaus shouts at them, fuelled with anger, "Do you hear me? Do you!?"
