Chapter 25

The End of the Affair

3RD PERSON POV:

Klaus wakes up, he turns his head to see Lola still fast asleep with her back to him. He can't help but smile at her, it's taken decades to get her back and finally she's back in his arms.

Klaus gets out of bed and starts to get dressed. He stares down at Lola in amazement, completely captivated by her beauty. The sunlight was flooding in from the windows, shining onto her perfectly, radiating a soft golden glow on her skin. The white sheets were barely covering her, her legs sticking out of the sheets.

Lola starts to stir awake, Klaus gets back onto the bed and starts to wake her up gently as he leaves kisses on her shoulder blade, the same shoulder blade that her bird tattoo is on. Lola smiles as she gets woken up by this, she lays on her back and opens her eyes, looking up at Klaus, "Good morning."

"Good morning, my love." Klaus mutters as he leaves kisses all over Lola's face, making her laugh.

A sudden knock at the door makes Lola jump back into the real world. She shoots up on the bed and pushes Klaus off her. He's laid back on the bed as Lola covers his mouth with her hand. Neither of them speaking, until the voice from behind the door speaks up.

"Hey, Lo. It's me, open up." It's Stefan.

Lola looks down at Klaus and starts to panic, she points over to the bathroom signalling him to go hide in there. Klaus smirks as he puts his hands behind his head, refusing to move.

Lola glares back down at him before shouting up, "Just a second!" She grabs a pillow and hits it against Klaus' face. She glares back down at him and mouths, "Now!" Klaus sits up from the bed with his hands up in surrender, trying not to laugh, he walks into the bathroom.

Lola stands up from the bed, panicking, she grabs a towel and wraps it round herself and opens the door slightly to see Stefan standing there, "Hey, Stef." She says casually, "What's up?"

Stefan looks at Lola standing in a towel awkwardly and looks away, "Uh, sorry. I didn't mean to disturb you or anything."

"No, it's fine, I was just about to go in the shower." Lola says. Just as Stefan is about to reply, the shower starts to go off in the bathroom. Stefan looks at Lola confused, who still has a fake smile plastered on her face. She starts to laugh awkwardly, "There's something wrong with my shower, it, uh, it takes a few minutes for the water to actually run after you've turned it on."

Stefan shrugs, "Weird. Anyway, I'm going to the diner across the street. I was going to see if you were coming along too?"

"Yeah, I'll meet you there. I'll be about 20 minutes. Have a coffee ready for me." Lola says, Stefan nods and walks away as Lola closes the door. She watches through the peep hole, making sure he leaves, which he does.

She rests against the door as she closes her eyes and sighs with relief, that was way too close. She opens her eyes to see Klaus walking out of the bathroom, smirking. She picks up his shirt off the floor and throws it at him, "What the hell?!"

Klaus bursts out laughing as he catches his shirt, "I'm sorry, love. I couldn't resist."

Lola glares at him, "That wasn't funny."

He laughs even more as he walks up to Lola and wraps his arms around her waist. He kisses her cheek, "It was a bit." Lola caves as she laughs, admitting that it was funny but it was also too risky. Klaus moves towards the bathroom, still having his arms wrapped around Lola, "So how about that shower?"

Lola laughs and she moves out of his hold, "I'll be showering alone. Perhaps you do the same, in your own room." She starts to walk towards the bathroom but turns to face Klaus, "It should probably be a cold one at that."

Once dressed, Lola walks across the street to the diner where Stefan is waiting, sitting in a booth with his back to the entrance. She walks over and flicks his ear, he turns to face her as she slides in the booth opposite him, stealing his toast with a huge grin on her face.

"Perfect timing." Stefan says to Lola as the waitress walks over with a pot of coffee.

Lola smiles up at the waitress, "Amazing, thank you." Lola pours herself a cup of coffee and takes a sip as she watches the waitress walk away. She looks over to Stefan who has a weird look on his face, she removes the cup from her mouth and looks at him confused, "What?"

Stefan shrugs, "I don't know. You look different."

Lola pretends to act hurt and fake gasps, "Stefan Salvatore, I am offended. I know I don't look great in the mornings but all I've done is have a shower and brush my hair."

Stefan laughs, "No not like that. I don't know how to explain it...just different." Lola places her cup of coffee back on the table and looks away from her brother. He places his hand on hers, "Now you're doing that thing where you get uncomfortable and you won't even look at me." Lola sighs and looks at Stefan and smiles. Stefan sighs, "You know you can talk to me right?"

Lola looks up and sees Klaus walking into the diner towards them both, with an expression on his face she is familiar with; he's up to something. Lola pulls away from Stefan's hands and takes another sip of her coffee as Klaus approaches the table, "Good morning, Salvatores. How are we all doing?"

Stefan gets up from the booth and doesn't even look at Klaus, "I'm going to get a real drink." He mumbles as he walks out of the diner.

Klaus takes a seat where Stefan was sitting and takes the coffee out of Lola's hand, smirking as he does so and takes a sip.

Lola looks at him with a raised brow, "What are you up to?"

Klaus shrugs as he stretches his arms across the back of the booth seat, "I don't know what you're talking about, love."

Lola scoffs, "I know that look. That's your classic Klaus Mikaelson look whenever you have a plan."

Klaus smiles, "You know me so well."

"So, what are you planning?"

"We're going to Chicago."

Lola frowns, "Chicago?" Klaus nods, "You're going to ask Gloria for help aren't you?"

Klaus neither admits nor denies, but it's obvious that's what he's planning. He gets up from the booth and holds his hand out for Lola, "Come on, love. We should really get going."

---------------------------------------------------------

They all finally arrive in Chicago, the car pulls up into a warehouse.

"Welcome back to Chicago, Stefan." Klaus says as they all climb out of the car.

Lola walks towards the warehouse door and smiles to herself as she looks out at Chicago's skyline, feeling happy to be back.

"What are we doing here?" Stefan asks as both he and Klaus walk towards Lola looking out.

"I know how much you loved it here, it's also one of your sister's favourite cities." Klaus says as he looks down at Lola and smiles, he glances back over to Stefan, "Bringing back memories of the good old ripper days?"

Stefan shrugs "Blacked out most of them. A lot of blood, a lot of partying. The details are all a blur."

Klaus smirks, "Well, that is a crying shame. The details are what make it legend. Word was the ripper of Monterrey got lonely, so he escaped to the city for comfort. It was Prohibition. Everything was off limits then, which made everything so much fun."

-------------------------------------------------

*FLASHBACK*

"You are such a liar!" Lola shouts out in a joking manner.

"I'm not lying, sweetheart." Klaus says as he tries not to laugh, he coughs slightly as he tries to keep the cocktail Lola made him down, "It's really nice. What's it called again?"

"I haven't gave it a name yet. Let me try it." Lola says as she reaches out for the cocktail.

Klaus grabs the cocktail and lifts it up, "No."

Both laughing as Lola tries to grab the cocktail once more, "Come on, Nik. I wanna know how bad it actually is."

Lola sits up slightly to reach for the drink but Klaus drinks the entire thing, pulling a face as he does so. Lola look at Klaus, smiling in shock, "That was rude."

Klaus smirks and shrugs. Lola shrugs back, "I'll just go make another one."

Lola stands up and starts to walk towards the bar but Klaus grabs her hand and pulls her down to sit on his lap, "You're not going anywhere." He mumbles as he places kisses all over her face.

"Guess who my eyes have just spied, ladies?" Gloria says on stage, "Looking for a good time, Mr. Salvatore?"

"Save me a dance, Gloria." Stefan confidently says as he walks further into the club.

Lola freezes on Klaus' lap, she looks over to the dance floor to see her younger brother, whom she hasn't seen since 1864, speaking to Rebekah of all people.

"Is that..."

"My brother." Lola says finishing Klaus' assumption, "Stefan."

"Do you want to go talk to him?" Klaus asks.

Lola shakes her head and then looks back down at Klaus and caresses his cheek as she smiles, "No, I just want to stay here with you." They both kiss.

Rebekah walks back over to their table, "So that's your infamous ripper brother? It's obvious he's related to you."

Lola raises her brow, "How is it obvious, darling Rebekah?"

"Because you're both quite the lookers aren't you? The Salvatore genes are strong indeed." She replies smirking.

Lola laughs knowing exactly what Rebekah is insinuating, "Don't even think about it."

Klaus laughs, "You know she already has."

*END OF FLASHBACK*

------------------------------------------------

*PRESENT DAY*

"Chicago was magical." Klaus says as he reminisced.

Stefan scoffs, "Yeah, well, I'll take your word for it. Like I said, I don't remember most of it."

"Down to business, then?" Klaus says as he closes the warehouse door.

"Why am I still with you?" Stefan asks as he crosses his arms, "We had our fun, your hybrids failed. I mean, don't you want to move on?"

"We're going to see my favorite witch. If anyone can help us with our hybrid problem, it's her." Klaus says as he walks back over to the car, where the door is being help open by one of his little minions. Lola & Stefan follow and get back into the car also.

----------------------------------------------------

*FLASHBACK*

In the bar Gloria is singing another song. A waiter is pouring champagne on a champagne tower. Rebekah is dancing with a man but is looking at Stefan who is at the bar, drinking with a group of loud men.

Rebekah grows tired of them, she walks away from the dance floor, over to Stefan, "Sorry to crash the fun, boys, but some of us actually came here to hear the music. Not you."

"I am so sorry, sweetheart." Stefan responds with an attitude, "Are we offending you?"

The group of men laugh at his comment. Rebekah smiles slightly, she walks up to Stefan and slowly drags her finger across his face, "It would take a lot more than a baby face like this to offend me."

Rebekah begins to walk away but Stefan grabs her arm, "Hey, hey. You ever going to tell me your name?"

Rebekah smiles, "Sure. When you earn it." She steps closer and leans towards him, "Now do Gloria a favour and stick a sock in it." Rebekah then walks back into the dance floor to continuing dancing with the man.

Klaus and Lola watched all of that unfold, sitting in a booth in the corner of the club, "He's got quite the attitude on him, hasn't he?" Klaus assumes.

"He's not always been like this." Lola quickly defends her younger brother, she smiles slightly, "He was always the most calm out of all three of us when we were younger. But it's clear he isn't like that when he's busy being the Ripper of Monterrey. There was a woman that helped him before, but clearly he's sacked her off yet again."

*END OF FLASHBACK*

----------------------------------------------------

*PRESENT DAY*

Klaus, Stefan and Lola all walk into Gloria's bar. It's dark and dim but still looks exactly as it did all those years ago.

"Looks familiar, doesn't it?" Klaus says.

"I can't believe this place is still here." Stefan says as he looks around the club.

Gloria walks out from the back and looks at them all stunned, "You got to be kidding me."

Lola and Klaus both smiles over to her. Klaus takes a few steps towards her, "So a hybrid walks into a bar, says to the bartender..."

Gloria holds her hand out to stop him from continuing, "Stop. You may be invincible, but that doesn't make you funny." Gloria looks over to Lola and smiles, "I didn't expect to see the two of you back in the same room as each other." She points between Klaus and Lola.

Lola laughs awkwardly, "That's a long story."

Gloria looks at Stefan, "I remember you."

Stefan looks at her confused, "Yeah. You're Gloria. Shouldn't you be..."

"Old and dead?" Gloria finishes his sentence, "Now if I die, who's going to run this place, huh?"

Lola coughs and raises her hand, "Gloria, you and I both know I make a Cosmo better than you."

"That's the only the you can make, sweetie." Gloria says, laughing as her and Lola both hug.

Klaus turns to face Stefan, "Gloria's a very powerful witch."

Gloria shrugs, "I can slow the aging down some. Herbs and spells. But don't worry, it'll catch up to me one day."

Klaus turns to face Stefan, he places his hand on Stefan's shoulder, "Stefan, why don't you go and fix us up a little something from behind the bar?"

Stefan nods, "Yeah, sure thing."

Lola and Klaus both watch as Stefan walks to the bar. Klaus looks over to Gloria and smirks, "You look ravishing, by the way."

"Don't. I know why you're here." Gloria says as she takes a seat at a table, "A hybrid out to make more hybrids? That kind of news travels."

"So what am I doing wrong?" Klaus asks as both he and Lola take a seat at the table also, "I broke the curse."

"Obviously you did something wrong." Gloria starts, Klaus glares at her, "Look, every spell has a loophole, but a curse that old...We'd have to contact the witch who created it."

Klaus smiles slightly, "Well, that would be the original witch. She's very dead."

"I know. And for me to contact her, I'll need help. Bring me Rebekah."

Lola sits up straight and smiles, "Yes! Let's get Rebekah!"

"Rebekah." Klaus sighs, "Rebekah is a bit preoccupied."

"She has what I need. Bring her to me."

"What is this?" Stefan speaks up from the bar.

"Well, I told you, Stefan." Klaus says as he stands up, "Chicago's a magical place."

"But this is me. With you." Stefan says looking confused as he holds up a picture of Klaus and him from the twenties.

-------------------------------------------------

All three of them walk back into the warehouse. Stefan is still holding onto the picture from the bar.

"This doesn't make any sense. Why don't I remember you?" Stefan says to Klaus, confused. He grabs Lola by the arm, causing her to stop walking, "Why didn't you tell me about this? You said to me months ago you were in Chicago in the twenties, why didn't you tell me you seen me?"

Lola sighs and pulls out of Stefan's grasp, "It's complicated, Stef."

"You said it yourself: that time had a lot of dark holes." Klaus retorts.

Stefan starts to get impatient, "No, if you knew me, then why haven't you said anything?"

"I'm a little busy right now. Memory Lane will have to wait." Klaus says as he continues walking through the warehouse, Lola follows knowing exactly where he's going.

"What the hell is going on?" Stefan says as he grabs onto Klaus' arm, "Answer me."

Klaus removes Stefan's hand from his arm, "Let's just say we didn't get off to a brilliant start. To be honest, I hated you."

------------------------------------------------------

*FLASHBACK*

Stefan and Rebekah are both sat in a booth with a human girl between them. Stefan begins to drink for the girl's neck, Rebekah joins him on the other side of her neck.

They both move away from the girl and kiss, Stefan looks down and notices Rebekah's necklace, "It's beautiful."

"A witch gave it to me." Rebekah says softly, "Supposedly it's magical."

"And is it?"

Rebekah smiles, "It brought me love, didn't it?"

They both continue to kiss when Klaus walks over and pulls Rebekah away, "It's late, Rebekah, we're leaving."

Rebekah pulls away from Klaus, "Get off me!"

Stefan gets up and glares at Klaus, "Who is this guy?"

"Stefan, don't. He'll kill you." Rebekah warns, she glares over at Klaus, "Nik's a lot stronger than he looks."

"So this is the famous Stefan Salvatore. I've been hearing so much about." Klaus says as he looks at Stefan. He looks over to Rebekah, "Lola was right, he does have funny hair."

Stefan looks at him confused, "What did you just say?"

Klaus smirks at Stefan, he glares over to Rebekah, "I'm bored. I want to go."

"Then go without me, I'm not your girlfriend." Rebekah responds with an attitude.

"No, you're my sister, which means...you have to do as I say." Klaus retorts as he grips hold of Rebekah, pulling her away from Stefan.

Rebekah looks over Klaus' shoulder, "Oh, here comes your girlfriend now."

They all turn to see Lola walking towards them both after saying goodbye to Gloria. Stefan looks at his sister stunned, "Lola?!"

Lola smiles weakly, "Hello, brother."

*END OF FLASHBACK*

----------------------------------------------------

*PRESENT DAY*

Lola walks ahead of them both and walks towards Rebekah's coffin. She opens it up to see Rebekah laying there all desiccated, still in her twenties flapper dress she was in the last time Lola seen her.

Lola smiles down at her best friend, "Hey, Bex."

"Your sister. So I knew another Original vampire." Stefan says to Klaus, still confused.

Klaus smiles slightly. "If you can't handle it, then don't ask." He says as he joins Lola standing by Rebekah's coffin. He smiles down at her and gently touches her face.

Stefan walks over to them and looks down at Rebekah, "I don't recognise her."

"Well, don't tell her that. Rebekah's temper is worse than mine." Klaus says as he pulls the dagger out of her chest, "Time to wake up, little sister. Any day now, Rebekah. She's being dramatic."

Stefan has been pacing for some time, he turns to face Klaus and crosses his arms against his chest, "Look, why don't you just tell me what the hell is going on? I mean, you obviously want me here for a reason, right?"

Klaus shrugs, "Well, you have many useful talents."

"Do I?" Stefan mumbles.

Klaus turns to face Stefan, "In fact, I learned some of my favourite tricks from you."

Lola rolls her eyes, "Here we go."

-----------------------------------------------------

*FLASHBACK*

"Well, sister, it's been a while." Stefan says as they are all sat in a booth, Rebekah and Lola in the middle of the men.

Lola nods, "It has, 56 years to be exact."

Stefan leans forward slightly, smirking, "Are you still mad at me?"

Lola thinks for a second, "Well, I was." She turns to face Klaus, who is smiling at her, she smiles back, "But if you hadn't turned me then I wouldn't have met this charming man."

Klaus leans in closer to Lola, "You still might have met me, but you would have been a lot older. Even then, I would still love you, wrinkles and all."

Both Klaus and Lola laugh, she looks over to Stefan, "See what I mean by charming?" Klaus puts his arm around Lola and pulls her in closer, kissing her cheek as he does.

Rebekah smiles at the pair, "Your sister has been the best thing to happen to our family, Stefan." Lola smiles over at Rebekah as they both grab each other's hand.

Stefan smiles at his sister, "We may not have been on the best of terms but I'm glad to see you again, Lo. I've missed you, sister." He raises his glass to Lola and they both cheers.

"So Stefan, enlighten me. What makes you worthy of an Original like my sister?" Klaus asks, "She's pure vampire and you're no more than a diluted bloodline." Lola elbows him in the stomach for that little comment.

Rebekah scoffs, "Don't listen to him, Stefan. Nik's an elitist."

"Hmm. And where's the rest of your family?" Stefan asks.

Klaus shrugs, pretending to think, "Well, let's see. Um...I killed most of them."

"But not all." Rebekah corrects him.

"And you're okay with that?" Stefan asks Rebekah.

"Well, we all had the chance to choose a side." Rebekah says, she smiles over to Klaus, "I chose the right one, eventually."

"And what about you, Lola? Did you meet all of the family?" Stefan asks his sister.

"Most of them." Lola answers, all of them but Finn who has been in a box for 800 years.

"Where the hell's my wife?" A man demands as he walks over to the group.

Stefan acts clueless, "I don't know. I give up."

"You think you're so tough? Hiding in your bar, drinking your liquor? A telephone call to Chicago P.D. might set you straight." He threatens.

"Ooooh!" Lola and Klaus both say in unison, everyone laughs. The man mocks their laughing.

Stefan looks down at the dance floor to a girl, "Lila? Lila, please. Come here for a second."

"Oh, thank God." The man says as he sees his wife, he puts her arm around her, "Come on, we're leaving."

Stefan reaches his arm out to stop him, "Oh, no, no, no, no. No. You're sitting." Stefan compels them both.

The man sits down next to Klaus and Lila next to Stefan. Stefan takes off the girl's glove and gets a pocket knife out of his jacket.

"Stefan, don't be mean." Rebekah teases.

The man looks on, horrified, "What the hell are you doing?"

Klaus watches, intrigued. Lola also watches, intrigued, but also concerned how her sweet younger brother has turned into a ripper.

Stefan cuts Lila's wrist and the blood pours into a champagne glass, "Thank you so much, Lila. Why don't you go and bandage that up?" He compels. Lila gets up and leaves the table.

"I'd like you to join me for a drink." Stefan compels the man as he passes him the glasses containing the blood of his wife.

"What kind of sick freaks are you?"

"I said, drink!" Stefan demands.

The man shakily raises the glass to his lips and takes a sip of his wife's blood, coughing as he does.

"I didn't catch your name." Stefan says.

"Go to hell." The man spits out.

"Do you want another sip?"

"Liam." He answers, "Liam Grant."

"Liam Grant!" Stefan repeats, "Have another sip, Liam."

Klaus clinks his champagne glass on Liam's glass. Liam shakily raises the glass to drink once more.

"Finish it." Stefan teases.

Liam swallows all the blood in one gulp, everyone laughing as he does so.

*END OF FLASHBACK*

---------------------------------------------------------

*PRESENT DAY*

"I was your number one fan." Klaus says as he begins to walk out of the warehouse.

Stefan scoffs, "Why should I believe any of this?" He faces Lola, "Is this true?"

Lola nods in response as Klaus walks up to a guard man, "When she wakes up, tell her to meet us at Gloria's Bar. Then volunteer your carotid artery and let her feed until you die." He compels, the guard man nods.

"Where you going?" Stefan asks.

"You think I'm lying, Stefan." Klaus says, ignoring Stefan's question, "You and I knew each other. You trusted me with one of your secrets and now I'm going to prove it to you."

"How?"

"We're going to your old apartment." Klaus reveals.

They all walk into the apartment block, they make their way to the front door when Klaus speaks up, "What a charming little homestead."

He opens up the door to Stefan's apartment. Lola walks in first and looks around disgusted, "I forgot how much of a hell hole this is."

Klaus walks in, looking concerned, "Do you feel that? Is anybody here?"

Lola scoffs, "Who would want to be in here out of their free will?"

"It's been vacant for decades. People must break in all the time." Stefan concludes, "Why'd you bring me here?"

"Your friend, Liam Grant, the one who drank his wife's blood...I never could figure out why you wanted his name." Klaus explains, "And then you told me your little secret. It was all part of your special little ritual."

"One of Stefan's many rituals." Lola mumbles to herself as she looks around the apartment.

"To write it down." Stefan says quietly.

"And relive the kill," Klaus says smirking, "...over and over again." He walks over to what just looks like shelves, but reveals a secret room behind a secret door, he turns to face Stefan, "You believe me now?"

Stefan walks towards the secret room and looks in it.

Lola is still looking around, not pleased with this place, "Seriously, Stefan. Out of all the apartments in this city, you chose this."

Klaus laughs, "Not everyone has expensive taste like you, sweetheart." Lola rolls her eyes.

"Look what I found." Stefan speaks up from inside the secret hiding place, he walks out holding a bottle of whiskey, "1918. Single malt."

Klaus smirks, "My favourite. Let's go and find someone to pair it with."

Stefan closes the secret door behind him and they all leave the apartment, heading back to Gloria's.

They all arrive back at the bar, taking a seat. Gloria puts two beers in front of Stefan and Klaus, "Where's Rebekah?"

"She'll be here." Klaus answers, "I can't just conjure her on demand."

Lola stands up and starts to walk behind the bar, "I want you to help me with something, Gloria."

She turns to smile at Klaus, he smiles back knowing she is up to something. He takes a sip of his beer when he looks at Stefan looking miserable, "What's with you? I thought Chicago was your playground."

Stefan scoffs, "So this is why you asked me to be your wingman? Because you liked the way that I tortured innocent people?"

"Well, that's certainly half of it." Klaus says as he grabs a bottle of alcohol and starts to pour.

"What's the other half?" Stefan asks.

"The other half, Stefan, is that you used to want to be my wingman." Klaus says as he slides one of the shot glasses along the counter to Stefan.

---------------------------------------------------

*FLASHBACK*

Rebekah smiles at Lola, "You're glowing."

Lola laughs, "What are you talking about now, Bekah?"

Rebekah glances over Lola's shoulder and looks at Stefan, "I think this is exactly what you needed. You needed to speak to your brother again, after the whole drama you had with your other brother."

Lola rolls her eyes, "Don't remind me." Lola turns to face her brother and her boyfriend getting along, "I never would have put you and Stefan together."

"Do I get the big sister approval?" Rebekah jokes.

Lola pretends to think for a second, "Hm. Maybe...it would be fun to actually be sisters, wouldn't it?"

Rebekah rolls her eyes, "We already would have been if Nik would just pluck up the courage and propose."

Lola looks down to see both Klaus and Stefan looking up, she smiles at Klaus who smiles back and he then looks back to Stefan.

"I've never seen my sister this happy." Stefan says, smiling up at his sister, he looks back at Klaus, "You really love her, huh?"

Klaus nods, "Can't imagine the day I won't." He looks back up to see Rebekah watching them both, he turns to face Stefan as he laughs, "My sister fancies you, you know. But...I should warn you, Rebekah doesn't do anything half-speed, and that includes falling in love. So just be careful. She's totally mad."

Klaus flags down the bartender as they both laugh, Stefan takes another sip of his drink, "I appreciate the advice."

"And when the point comes where she inevitably leaves you...She can't help it, it's just who she is. Don't let your heart do anything stupid." Klaus warns him.

Stefan nods, "You know what, you're a good friend, Nik. I'm glad I met you." He holds up his shot glass in cheers.

*END OF FLASHBACK*

-----------------------------------------------

*PRESENT DAY*

Klaus raises his shot, "To friendship." Stefan clinks his shot glass.

"So I'm confused. If we were such great friends, then why do I only know you as the hybrid dick who sacrificed my girlfriend on an altar of fire and who apparently is in love with my sister?" Stefan bluntly responds with an attitude.

Klaus laughs slightly, he looks across the bar to see Lola with Gloria, laughing, he smiles slightly then face Stefan once more, "All good things must come to an end."

---------------------------------------------

*FLASHBACK*

Stefan and Rebekah are dancing. Klaus and Lola watch them with a smile on their faces as they sit at their table. Klaus has his arm around Lola and she is leaning into him, feeling content with everything in the moment.

Klaus starts to sense something, he tenses up as he looks around. Lola notices this she sits up and looks at him concerned, "Nik, what's wrong?"

Klaus starts to look panicked, "He's found us."

Suddenly, a wave of bullets come into the bar. Stefan and Rebekah seek refuge hiding behind the bar. Stefan grabs one of the bullets, "They're using wooden bullets. They know."

Rebekah looks down at the bullet scared, "That means he's here."

"Who? Who's here?"

Klaus and Lola, hand in hand, rush over to Rebekah, "Rebekah! Come on, we've got to go, sweetheart." Rebekah stands up from the bar and rushes over to them both.

"What the hell is going on?" Stefan shouts.

Rebekah turns to face Stefan, "Stefan!" She drops her necklace onto the floor.

Klaus pushes Lola and Rebekah away, "Go!" They both grab each other's hands and rush out of the bar.

Stefan notices Rebekah's necklace lying on the floor. Stefan is about to crouch down and take it when Klaus interrupts him, "Stefan. I'm sorry, but the fun has to end here."

Stefan looks at him confused, "What are you talking about?"

"You must forget Rebekah and me. Until I say otherwise, you never knew us, Stefan." Klaus starts to compel him, "You need to forget seeing your sister again, you haven't seen her since 1864. Thank you. I had forgotten what it was like to have a brother."

*END OF FLASHBACK*

----------------------------------------------

*PRESENT DAY*

"You compelled me to forget?" Stefan concludes.

Klaus looks down at his drink, "It was time for Rebekah and I to move on. Better to have a clean slate." He finishes the rest of his drink.

"But why?" Stefan asks, pushing for more information, "You shouldn't have to cover your tracks...unless you're running from someone."

Klaus glares at him, "Story time's over."

"You compelled Lola too, didn't you?" Stefan assumes, Klaus starts to look even more annoyed, "So much for loving her if you did that."

"It's because I love her that I did it!" Klaus snaps, he calms himself, "Like I said, story time's over."

"I need another drink. A real one." Stefan says, he finishes his drink and leaves the bar.

Klaus pours himself another drink, before he can grab it again, Lola pushes it away as she stands behind the bar. Klaus looks up to Lola who is smiling at him, "Here."

Lola places a drink onto the bar, Klaus looks up at her with a raised brow, "What's this?"

"The drink I made that night, but improved." Lola says, eager for him to try it again.

Klaus takes a drink, he smiles up at her and laughs, "It's definitely improved."

Lola playfully hits him on the shoulder, "I knew you were lying back then."

"I just didn't want to hurt your feelings." Klaus says softy as he holds Lola's hand.

She smiles at him and laughs, "Oh please, it will take a lot more than you saying my drink sucked to hurt my feelings."

Gloria walks back in the bar, she looks over to both Lola and Klaus, not happy with Lola getting close to him again. "Last call. Drink 'em up!" She shouts to everyone in the bar, "Lola, I need to speak to you."

Lola looks over and nods to Gloria, she smiles at Klaus once more and follows Gloria into the back of the bar, "What is it?"

"I think I've found a way to get the answers you've wanted all these years."

Lola smiles at Gloria, "Are you serious?"

Gloria nods, "This is why I need Rebekah, I need to speak to the original witch about this too. She's the only one powerful enough to fix this for you."

Lola rushes over and pulls Gloria in a hug, "Thank you."

They hug for a little longer, before Gloria pulls away and looks at Lola with a serious expression, "So tell me, what the hell are you doing with the hybrid again?"

Lola sighs, "It's complicated, Gloria."

"You still love him, don't you?"

Lola laughs as she shrugs, "Is that so bad?"

Gloria steps closer to Lola and cups her cheeks, "You need to look out for yourself, Doll."

Lola laughs, "I know what I'm doing, Mom. I am older than you remember." They both laugh but stop quickly when they hear a loud crash from inside the bar.

Meanwhile, back in the bar, Klaus is still sitting by the bar when he feels a new presence come up next to him. He smiles slightly, "I see they've opened the doors to the riffraff now."

Damon scoffs, "Oh, honey, I've been called worse."

Klaus starts twirling a cocktail umbrella in his hands, "You don't give up, do you?"

Damon shrugs, "Give me my brother and sister back...You'll never have to see me again."

"Well, I am torn. You see, I promised them both that I wouldn't let you die, but how many freebies did I really sign up for?" Klaus says, he looks up to the ceiling pretending to think, "And clearly you want to die, otherwise you wouldn't be here, so..."

Damon holds his hands up and smirks, "What can I say? I'm a thrill-seeker."

Klaus smirks to himself and then grabs Damon by the throat. He stands up, still having Damon in his hold, Klaus raises him off the ground. Something cracks as Klaus tightens his grip, Damon groans in pain and Klaus laughs, "Oh, dear, what was that? I'm boozey, so you'll forgive me if I miss your heart the first few tries." Klaus stabs him with the cocktail umbrella in his stomach, Damon groans in pain again, "Ohh! No, that's not it. Hmm." Klaus stabs him yet again, "Ohh. Almost." He taunts.

"You want a partner in crime? Forget Stefan and Lola." Damon bargains as he struggles to breathe, "I'm so much more fun."

Klaus looks up towards the ceiling like he is thinking about Damon offer, he then tosses him across the room. Damon crashes on top of a table, breaking it and lands on the ground.

Klaus walks over, rips a part of the chair off as a makeshift stake and crouches over Damon, "You won't be any fun after you're dead."

This is when Gloria and Lola walk out of the back, Lola looks at the scene unfolding in front of her, horrified, "Klaus, stop it!"

Gloria sets fire to the stake in Klaus' hand, Klaus groans in annoyance, "Really?"

"Not in my bar. You take it outside." Gloria snaps.

Damon tries to sit up but Klaus pushes him back down and looks at him, "You don't have to negotiate your brother's freedom. When I'm done with him, he won't want to go back. As for your sister, I already know she doesn't want to go back." Klaus takes his hand off Damon and walks away.

Lola rushes over to her brother and helps him up, "Oh my god. Are you okay?"

Damon stands up and pushes Lola away, "I'm fine." He glares at her, "You still don't want to leave, huh?" Lola doesn't respond, she looks away. Damon scoffs, "Of course you don't." He storms out of the bar.

Klaus walks back over to Lola, who's eyes are starting to tear up. He places his hand on her arm, "Come on."

Lola pushes Klaus away and glares up at him, saying nothing. She walks out of the bar herself and gets into their car when they are met with Stefan also and they all head back to the warehouse.

*FLASHBACK*

"Hurry up, Rebekah." Klaus shouts out as he walks around the car, "Let's go!"

Rebekah doesn't move from the spot she has been standing in for a while, looking towards the other end of the warehouse, "He'll be here any second."

Klaus takes a few steps towards her, "Do you want to die? We've been found. We need to move."

"Not without Stefan." Rebekah argues back. Lola gets out of the car she has been waiting in and walks towards them both.

"Stefan's not coming." Klaus starts, "We have to disappear. He'll draw too much attention. Let him go."

"What are you talking about?" Lola asks confused, Klaus turns to face her, a little startled that she was standing there. He sighs as he turns back to face Rebekah.

Rebekah glares at him, "What did you do?"

Klaus takes Rebekah's arm, "Come on. We don't have time for one of your tantrums."

Rebekah shakes his hand off her, "I don't want to run anymore, Nik! All we do is run." Her eyes filling with tears, "I want to be with Stefan."

Klaus sighs,"Fine." He pauses for a moment, "Then choose. Him or me."

Lola looks at her love, shocked, "Nik..."

Rebekah doesn't answer. Klaus places his hand on Lola's back as he turns to walk away, "That's what I thought. Get in the truck. Let's go."

Rebekah doesn't move from her spot, "Goodbye, Nik."

Both Lola and Klaus stop walking. He turns to face his sister, hurt all over his face. Rebekah turns to walk away but he rushes over and drives a dagger through her heart.

Lola runs up to him to try and stop him, but Klaus rushes behind Lola and puts his arms around her to stop her from helping Rebekah. Lola watches Rebekah desiccate and fall to the floor.

She pushes Klaus away from her and glares at him, "How could you do that?!"

"It needed to be done." Klaus states, "Mikael is here, we can't risk being seen."

Something in Lola's mind clicks, "You compelled him, didn't you?" Klaus says nothing, he looks away from her, "You compelled my brother. He doesn't even remember seeing me tonight does he?"

Klaus sighs, "I was doing it to protect you."

"You always say this!" Lola snaps as tears run down her face, "How was this protecting me? I am so sick of you so called protecting me. I've just made amends with him and he won't even remember it!" She hits Klaus against his chest, "Because of you!" Lola steps away slightly from him, she smiles weakly at Rebekah, "It's been so long since Rebekah has been happy, ever since the fire back home and then losing Marcel..."

Klaus grabs Lola's arms, "Do not speak his name!" He shouts at her, still hurt at the memory of losing Marcel.

Lola laughs slightly, "Or what? You can't dagger me, so what? You going to compel me as well?"

Klaus leans towards Lola's face as he glares at her, "Do not tempt me." He warns, he walks away, "As for Rebekah caring for your brother, she is weak. Love is a vampire's greatest weakness."

Lola scoffs, hurt by Klaus' words, "So what am I to you then? Am I just another one of your toys that you've been dragging around for the last 30 years?"

Klaus rushes to Lola and cups her cheeks, tears filling his eyes, "You mean the world to me. I love you so much. Which is why I need to do this..."

Lola shakes her head, knowing what he is about to do, "No, Nik, don't do this please."

A shaky breath falls from Klaus' lips as he starts to compel Lola, "You're going to forget about me."

Lola tries to move away, hysterical, "No."

"Forget about Rebekah, Kol, Elijah, all of us." Klaus says as he continues his compulsion, "I will find you again, I promise. But right now, you can't remember any of us or remember seeing your brother. Go." Lola stays standing where she is, "Go!" Klaus shouts.

Lola runs away in tears, she doesn't look where she is going when running, causing her to bump into someone. They both fall to the floor when a familiar voice speaks up, "Lola?"

Lola looks up to see her older brother, she looks at him confused, "Damon?"

Damon smiles softly as he pulls her in a hug, "Oh, thank god." He pulls away and checks Lola for any injuries and looking concerned why Lola was in such a state, "What's wrong? What's happened?"

Lola tries to think about what just happened, but she can't really remember, "I-I don't know. I was in Gloria's and then the police came in and then...I don't know."

"Who were you with?" Damon asks as he puts his jacket around Lola, "Where you with that family from New Orleans?"

Lola still looks confused, "What family?"

Damon sighs, "You're in shock, come on, I'll get you somewhere safe."

*END OF FLASHBACK*

--------------------------------------------------

*PRESENT DAY*

All three begin to enter the warehouse when Klaus stands in front of both Lola and Stefan, stopping them from walking, "Both of you stay out here, I'll tell you when to come in."

Klaus enters the room in the warehouse full of his family's coffins. Rebekah's is empty and the guard man is lying dead on the floor nearby. He looks around the warehouse, "Rebekah...It's your big brother. Come out, come out, wherever you are."

Rebekah rushes over and pushes Klaus against a wall, sticking the dagger through his chest, "Go to hell, Nik!"

Klaus takes the dagger out of his chest, holds it out beside him, and drops it, "Don't pout. You knew it wouldn't kill me."

"Yeah, but I was hoping it would hurt more." Rebekah snaps back.

"I understand that you're upset with me, Rebekah...So I'm going to let that go." Klaus says calmly, "Just this once. Brought you a little peace offering."

Lola storms into the warehouse, "Where the hell is she?!"

Klaus sighs, "You were meant to wait outside." Lola pushes past Klaus and stops in her steps when she sees Rebekah standing there.

Rebekah smiles over to her best friend, "You always knew how to make an entrance."

Lola smiles back and rushes over to her, "Hey, Bex." They both pull each other in to a hug, "I've missed you so much."

"You can come in now." Klaus calls out.

Rebekah and Lola pull away from their hug when Stefan walks in. He looks over to Rebekah, not showing a sign of recognition.

"Stefan..." Rebekah says softly, with smile on her face.

Klaus gets closer to Stefan, "Now you remember." He compels.

All of Stefan's memories come back, he blinks, he looks over to Rebekah and smiles, "Rebekah." He takes a few steps towards her and his sister.

"Stefan." Klaus haults him.

Stefan stops and turns to face Klaus, "I remember you. We were friends." Lola cracks a smile, the way Klaus and Stefan were back in the twenties was all Lola had dreamed about thinking of Klaus meeting her brothers.

"We are friends." Klaus corrects him as he puts his hand on Stefan's shoulder. He then turns to face Rebekah, "And now the reason you're here. Gloria tells me you know how to contact the original witch."

Rebekah scoffs, "The original witch?"

"What do you have that Gloria needs?" Klaus asks.

Rebekah touches her neck but realises her necklace is missing, "Where's my necklace? What did you do with it? I never take it off!"

"I don't know. I didn't touch it." Klaus responds.

"We need to find it, Nik. Now, I want it back!" Rebekah yells.

"Tell me that's not what she needs, Rebekah!" Klaus argues back.

"And I'm right back in the middle of Mikaelson arguments, great." Lola mumbles to herself as Rebekah looks into the coffin but doesn't find it so she throws it on the ground.

LOLA POV:

It's been quite a day, thinking back to much happier times in the twenties. I just wish it could be like that once more. I've came to hide in my old apartment, I had a couple hours catching up with Bex. Told her about Nik also compelling me, finding each other again in the fifties, but missing out the part on why I left.

I can't keep this to myself much longer, with Klaus and now Rebekah being back, it's only going to be a matter of time until Mikael shows up. Apparently some witch put a spell on him to keep him desiccated back in the nineties but I don't have faith that it's true.

I stand by the windows, looking down at the night life in Chicago, all the people just look so happy as though nothing wrong is happening in their lives. I wish I could say the same. I'm in love with a man who almost killed my brother tonight, and yet my feelings for him haven't changed. All I can think about right now is telling him the truth about Mikael.

"Thought I'd find you here." Klaus speaks up as he enter my apartment causing me to jump slightly.

I laugh to myself, still looking out of the windows, "You're good at that, finding me."

Klaus walks towards me and stands beside me, "Though I don't like to admit when I'm wrong, I haven't always been good at finding you." I smile up at him but don't respond. He sighs, "I know you're mad about Damon, but..."

I turn to face him and put my hand on his chest as I shake my head, "I'm not mad, well I am. But we do need to talk, just not about that."

Klaus' face changes, starting to look like his classic paranoid self, "So talk."

I take his hand and walk over to the couch, we both sit down, I start to shift uncomfortably trying to find the right words, "I need to tell you about what happened in 1958."
