Chapter 33
I look up at the helicopter hovering over us, bright lights shine down on us and I look back Eiichi who's currently yelling into a phone, switching between English, Japanese, French; almost like a broken record. I only hear two words from him in English that makes me freeze, 'grab her'. The man who had a gun pointed at me put it's back in his pocket and stalks over to me throwing me over his shoulder as he faces Eiichi. My body yells in protest, my ribs digging into his shoulder.
"We're leaving, Daisuke deal with the rest here," Eiichi orders coldly and the man follows walking past his fallen comrades lying in the snow. Immediately gunshots start firing off and you don't have to be a genius to know that Eiichi doesn't want any witnesses left over. They don't walk far before we reach the car I was just in less than thirty minutes ago.
"You just had to give us trouble didn't you Victoria?" he snarls as he opens the driver's door while his subordinate opens the back and throws me inside with me landing awkwardly on the seats. "How did they even find us, fuck!" he yells as he starts the car.
A tiny smile grazes my lips already knowing how they found us. It's all because of a six-year-old boy that has the most amazing memory. It all worked out with him seeing that small portion of my tattoo and since there's the internet, they could translate everything. If it was Jason, there's no way he would remember every single kanji. A small chuckle escapes my mouth and Eiichi whips his head around to glare at me.
"Do you think this is funny?" he shouts.
"Your plan is unravelling and by tonight your base will crumble. That policeman you said I'm so smitten for, I know he's here and there is no way he's letting you drive out of this forest tonight," I chuckle. Right as I say that I hear sirens in the distance, the sound of the helicopter not too far away from us.
"Sir, we can't take her with us, she's a liability and will slow us down," the man beside me tells Eiichi. He's silent for a moment, no doubt thinking of his next move.
"Kane, we're ditching the car," he tells the man. The man -Kane- turns to look at me in question and Eiichi continues. "We're ditching her as well, I already got the rest of the locations when we were on our way here. Tie her up Kane, there's a lake about less than a mile from here. I'm going to drive the car into the lake and Daisuke will be nearby to get us," he tells him as he reaches into the glove apartment and gets some rope. He's going to drive this into a lake? Is he insane? Wait, why am I even asking myself that.
Kane works quickly bounding my hands together and I can feel the panic rising inside of me. If the police don't reach us in time, I'm going to be dead tonight. My breath hitches as the water comes into view, with the moonlight shining it's picturesque and serene and I realize we're on a small cliff. We're less than fifty feet away, twenty, ten, zero.
"A pity things had to end this way, goodbye Victoria," Eiichi tells me in a sinister voice. The car flies in the air for a moment, I watch Eiichi and Kane jump out before it hits the water. The impact of the car hitting the water throws me against the windshield, no sound escapes my lips from the impact. Instantly water starts filling inside as it starts to sink, the freezing water washing over me. I let out a cough when some water enters my mouth, my nose burning as well.
"Jason, if you're out there, please, please reach me," I whisper and a warm tear trails down my cheek. I cried from the beat down earlier but now I'm crying because of fear, because I can see how this will end. I take one last breath as the car is fully submerged in the water, my eyes shut as I hold my breath but I can't hold it for much longer since it's putting a strain on my chest.
My lungs can't take it anymore and I breathe out, my last breath going into the water and now the water fills my mouth. I can feel myself choking, my body slowly starting to weaken, my arms and legs going lax since I can't fight anymore.
I think my heart stopped for a moment because I'm woken up to something solid against my back, hands pressing hard into my chest in continuous up and down motions. My body convulses and I feel myself coughing up the water that went into my lungs. I'm turned over onto my side and I continue coughing the water until I'm left shivering.
I can barely open my eyes and the sounds around me sound muted, but what I can see and hear is the sound of sirens, the flashing lights from the car, but I can make out the figure of the one man I wanted to save me sitting beside me in tears. Relief washes over me, my mouth twitches to smile but I have no energy left inside of me. This time I welcome the darkness knowing full well I'm finally safe.

This is such a reoccurring theme I'm starting to get sick of it. Universe if you can hear me, I really don't want to come back to a hospital unless it's for work, for real though, I can't do this anymore. I've been awake for a couple of minutes, the only thing I've been able to move was my toes and fingers, well the fingers that aren't currently in a bright blue cast.
My ribs don't hurt either, I don't feel that pressure and pain from last time. Slowly the memories of that horrid night come back to me, my breath hitches in my throat as the scenes flash in front of me. My eyes laser-in on a figure shifting on the sofa and I tense for a minute, my mind still thinking I'm with Eiichi but when I see tattooed covered hands scratching its head, I slowly start to relax.
"Jason?" I whisper. He freezes as he looks up at me, eyes widening to see I'm conscious. He quickly rushes to the bed, one hand holding mine the other hand gently touching my face as if to confirm I'm really awake.
"Hey sweetheart, I missed you," he whispers back as he leans down to kiss my forehead before pressing a soft kiss to my lips.
"How long have I been out? A couple of days? A week?" I question as he sets the bed into a sitting position and pours me some water.
"How about two months, it's already the last day of May," he replies as he sits down beside the bed while still holding my hand.
"Two months?" I ask incredulously as I take slow sips of the water.
"You were injured badly plus they found traces of some knockout drug still in your bloodstream," he tells me. "Besides severe bruising, you had some deep lacerations, four broken ribs, a bad concussion not to mention you drowned and you had to be given CPR and also had hypothermia. They said that whatever injuries you got the cabin you shouldn't have been able to move, actually your lucky your even alive."
"Trust me, it was all adrenaline. If I had my way, I would have probably passed out before they threw me back in the car," I smile weakly.
"You're so fucking strong for not giving up," he says leaning forward to press his forehead against mine. "So fucking strong," he says moving down to kiss me again.
"As much as I'd like to continue this, you should probably go get a doctor and let them know I'm awake. Am I in a hospital in Quebec or did they fly me back to Toronto?" I question as he moves back a bit.
"Three weeks ago they decided to fly you back to Toronto so right now we're at your workplace," he answers.
"That means I was in Quebec for a good month," I muse to myself. "Wait, hold on, what about Oli? Did you stay in Quebec with me for the month I was there?"
"I flew between here and Toronto. Every three days I'd switch from there to here. I couldn't leave you by yourself after everything that happened, I almost lost you that night," his voice tightens and so does the grip on my hand. "But there's no way I could leave Oli either, you'd probably kick my ass if I just left him alone."
"Damn right I would," I chuckle. "Is he with Charlotte? I miss him."
"Yeah, since the first night you were kidnapped," he replies."And he misses you too, everyday he asks if you've woken up yet and when can he see you. I didn't want him to see you while you were in a coma still." My heart melts as I picture a worried Oli asking his uncle about me.
"Let me go get your doctor and then I'll let Charlotte know you're awake so Oli can come by later," he tells me, kissing my cheek before walking out. I gaze to the ceiling, listening to the beeping from the heart monitor, my heart at a steady relaxed pace. I'll have to ask Jason later what happened to Eiichi, if they caught him or if he miraculously escaped. I hear the door sliding open and I turn expecting to find Jason with the doctor but instead it's Cora.
"Cora?" I ask in confusion. Why the fuck is she here? She doesn't reply instead looks down at the floor but I do hear the audible click of the door. I slowly move my hand towards the nurse's call button, rapidly pressing it a couple of times as I continue to observe her. Since she stepped in here she hasn't looked up at me once since she walked in and I'm still wondering how she even found me here.
"Victoria, you know you really fucked things up for me," she says looking up at me, and the look she's giving me it looks like she's about to snap.
"I've told you before and I'll say it again, you did that on your own. You kept me around because I apparently attract hot men but at the same time cheating on your long-term boyfriend that was ready to propose. Who can you blame besides yourself?" I ask calmly. I don't know why she's here but the one thing I know is that I can't go pissing her off since I still don't know what her intention is.
"And I've been itching to get you back and lady luck brought me here today," she says ignoring me and slowly starts to walk towards me adjusting the backpack she's holding on her arm. "I got an interesting visit the other day, a woman named Andjela Yamazaki." I flinch when I hear that name and her smile sharpens. "She caught wind of her son fucking up his job back in Quebec, disposing of you."
"What did she tell you?" I demand, I start inching away from her but I'm in no position to walk, after all, I haven't walked in two months.
"We talked, she found out how much I despise you and she decided to cut me a deal. A big payout so long as I finish her son's job. How they found you in that forest is luck but she doesn't want to take that chance of the police realizing what's on your back," she smirks and she pulls down her backpack and pulls out a big bottle. She uncaps it pouring whatever was inside onto the bed. My fingers touch the bed, I rub them together and it's not water, it's oil.
"Cora, you don't want to do this," I say, my voice rising already knowing what she's planning to do, my hand continuously pressing the nurse call button. I hear someone trying to open the door, yells from outside, Jason's the loudest.
"But I think I do," she snarls as pulls out a lighter and I quickly roll off the bed, the wiring attached to me wrapped off with me falling to the floor, the bed going up in flames. I don't even notice the impact and if I was just a second later I'd be burning on that bed. I shimmy my body under the bed, the instinct to survive coursing through me. "Where do you think you're going?" I hear her call out and I feel a hand wrap around my ankle dragging me from underneath.
I look at her, a crazed look in her eyes as she stands above me. She reaches inside her coat drawing out a knife that was hidden inside, the harsh hospital lights glinting off of it. The fire illuminates her face as she raises the knife with both arms above her head, a maniacal grin on her face.
"Goodbye Victoria," she says before bringing the knife down and I close my eyes tightly waiting for it to pierce through me but instead, I hear the hospital bedroom fly open and a single gunshot go through the room. I open my eyes to see Cora looking unsteady for a moment and the next thing I know is she's falling on top of me with the knife still in her hand.
It just nicks my cheek as it pierces into the floor and I feel like my heart is going to jump out of my chest. Footsteps quickly round the bed and I see Jason looking down at us and waving people over. Cora is lifted off my body and Jason bends down picking me up, I wrap my arms tightly around his neck as more people rush in to deal with the fire.
"Jason, bring her here," I hear Haruto call out and he walks towards him placing me down on a chair. His arms unwrap from me but I still hold onto him tightly. "Sweetheart?" he questions as he moves to kneel so he's no longer bending awkwardly. My mouth opens but the words are just stuck in my throat, I can't make out what I want to say.
"Sweetheart, I'm here. I'll always save you," he tells me, his voice thick with emotion as he holds onto me tightly and that's all it takes for the dam to break, the pent-up emotions ever since the accident me breaking free as I openly sob into his chest. My cries are loud, my hands fisting into his clothes but he doesn't push me away, only tightens his arms around me and right now this is the one safe place I don't want to leave.

A/N You guys must have thought the second half of the chapter would be a cute moment with Jason, Oli joining them later and everything would just be fine and it would be the end. Too bad I don't like to play on expectations, expect the unexpected. I spent yesterday and tonight working on this, I couldn't just drop this without having some drama. At this point, drama should just be my middle name.
And I know some of you are wondering, 'Eiichi was speaking English, Japanese and French?' A little geography lesson for those who are confused, Quebec is a province in Canada and their main language is French. Hope that clears everything.
But anyways, what are your thoughts on the chapter? Be sure to leave your thoughts in the comments!!
