Chapter 3.1 | New Bonds

"It's okay to see her now right? I don't want to overwhelm her or anything." My ears perk up when I hear a female voice from outside my room. It doesn't sound like Charlotte and I know it's definitely not Cleo. I watch as the room door slides open and a familiar face pops in, relief clear as day when they see me.
"You know it was really scary hearing my very first friend almost died, well almost died again," Camryn says from the doorway and I hold back my laughter before waving her inside. She rushes over to my side and stops beside my bed, contemplating something for a moment before a determined look takes over her face. Before I can even question what's wrong with her she moves forward and gently wraps her arms around my shoulders.
"I'm really really glad you're okay Victoria, I wish you never had to go through that. Scratch that I wish no one would ever have to go through what you did," she tells me, her voice thick with sadness.
"Trouble seems to follow me wherever I go," I answer as I hug her back before she lets go and sits in the vacated chair Jason was in only ten minutes earlier. He mentioned to me that someone came to visit me periodically when I was moved here, I guess it was Camryn. I did tell her that I'd give her one chance at being my friend. From what she said last time about not having any or not being able to keep any, it seems she could really use one.
"But you're really okay right? I heard from your boyfriend that something serious happened yesterday," she starts. "But then when I was passing by some nurses they said someone tried to kill you right after you woke up."
"Of course I'm the main talk of the hospital again. Why am I not surprised everyone is gossiping about it," I sigh. If it was any other time, I wouldn't have minded if someone was talking about me, but I'd rather people just kept quiet in this situation.
"Well you work here right, can't you talk to your superiors about getting them to stop? Otherwise people like me will hear about it," she suggests and I shrug my shoulder.
"I don't really care if you know but even if I did talk to them it'd just fuel them to talk about it more," I reply, leaning against my pillow. "Now if anyone comes to try and confirm whatever story they heard then I'm at no obligation to say anything," I finish with a smirk.
"Yeah for sure, by the way, the students miss you at school," she tells me as she reaches into her bag and pulls out a bunch of cards. "They wrote a bunch of get-well cards for you," she tells me as she hands them to me.
"They're so cute," I comment as I look through each card, skimming the words as I remember each face who wrote it. Some are from students I helped treat, others are from the ones that stop by my office just cause they want to.
"It's going to be some time before you come back to school right, hopefully it's before the end of the year," she laments and I put the cards down before looking at my hands.
"Yeah, I'm hoping they clear me soon but in any case, while I'm still recovering you can still come visit me here and when I go home," I tell her and she perks up in excitement.
"Don't worry, I was planning to do that already," she says with a wave of the hand. It's strange, she doesn't have a bad personality but she has no awareness for social cues at all.
"I need to ask and I hope I'm not intruding but why is it your bad with people? We've talked with one another for the last fifteen minutes and honestly I'm not even pissed," I ask her and she grimaces for a second before a small smile takes over her face.
"You know, you're the first person to ask me that," she answers before reaching into her jean jacket, unlocking her phone before passing it over to me. "Here, search me up."
Search her up? Is there some huge secret about her on the internet? I open the app before typing in Camryn Valencia. I watch the page load up before her face appears on the screen and beside her picture are other images of what looks to be when she was a kid and others with her parents.
"Are you a celebrity?" I ask incredulously turning her phone towards her.
"Yes and no. My parents are the ones that are famous so I have fame by proxy because of them," she explains calmly and I look back at the picture of her with them. "They're fashion designers and honestly I hate talking about them but long story short, I grew up in a world where I could say and do whatever I want."
"Kids my age knew who my parents were and so they didn't bother going against me. It wasn't until I left for university that I got a reality check," she sighs with a wry grin on her face. "After that pretty much no one wanted to do anything with me and I tried to change, I really did but I slip up so many times because after eighteen years of living like that it's hard to curb."
"That's why I meant what I said when we were in the gym, you still haven't given me shit for what I've said and I mean in the sense you leave me crying and like I said it still doesn't change the fact that I'm sorry for how I acted. I personally think it's still a sign we should be friends so please don't give up on me." I keep quiet processing whatever she just told me, it makes sense if she grew up in that type of environment so I can't fault her for that but this is the real world and not the one with her parents.
"I get it but don't worry, I'll make sure I get that attitude out of you. I'll take back what I said in giving you one chance but like I said you'll learn very quickly that I don't take any bullshit," I say with a smirk.
"Got it," she says with a grin as the room door opens and Jason walks in looking at the two of us.
"Hey I came to tell you I'm heading home to pick up Oli," he says coming to stand on the other side of the bed, taking my hand in his. "You need anything before I go?"
"Maybe bring something with you tomorrow to keep myself busy while I'm still stuck here," I answer while squeezing his hand. "And make sure you tell Oli hello for me and give him a hug for me."
"Alright, are you staying until visiting hours are over Camryn," he asks looking over at her.
"Unless she wants to kick me out I'm staying," she answers cheerily as he laughs.
"Okay, I'll see you tomorrow sweetheart," he says before leaning down to kiss my forehead. "See you Camryn," he tells her before walking out, the door closing behind him. It only after a couple of seconds before Camryn lets out a squeal while grinning widely.
"You guys are so cute together," she tells me while I laugh. I look at her and it looks like she has something else to ask but is clearly holding back.
"You want to know when we first met," I ask gauging her reaction at my question and right on cue she looks bashful for a moment before nodding her head.
"Only if you're comfortable with sharing," she says holding her hand up in a stopping motion.
"I don't mind," I answer with a wave of my hand. "We met here in the hospital when I became a witness to a shooting," I start off before breaking into laughter at her incredulous face.
"You weren't kidding when you said trouble follows you," she says shaking her head as she moves her chair closer to me.
"You don't know the half of it," I mutter under my breath before launching into the story with a new friend by my side, after the shit I've gone through the last couple of months and yesterday, it's nice to have some type of normalcy.

A/N So yes this is another bonus chapter and it's going to be the LAST bonus chapter. I felt like I had to write out these two scenes and I think officially out of all the chapters I've written on Wattpad, this is the longest. The next chapter was originally connected with this one but as I explained in the next one, I cut the whole scene out from here.
I hope you all enjoyed the chapter, I'll probably have to add on to it later since it's so short but be sure to leave your thoughts of the chapter in the comments!!
