Chapter 24
"How come Cindy didn't have breakfast with us today? I went to the basement to wake her and she disappeared. Do you know where she is Tori?" Oli questions. Uh, well your aunt Oli, she's fucking nuts.
"Your aunt had to leave to do some things," I tell him with a fake smile. "I don't know if she will be coming today or this weekend. And why don't you call her Aunt Cindy?
"I don't want Cindy to come back and she said don't call her Aunt Cindy," he tells me, moving to stand in front of me.
"Do you want to tell me why?" I ask, taking a seat on the school steps. "Your uncle isn't here yet."
"Cindy, she's mean. Yesterday when uncle Jason went to go do work upstairs, I had a question for math and I asked her help but she said fuck off you shit," he tells me. "I don't know what that means," he says shrugging his shoulders. My mouth drops open for a second, shocked she told Oli to fuck off. And I'm not surprised he remembered it all, he is a pretty smart kid.
"Oli, never say that again, okay? Those are bad words," I tell him. "And did you tell your uncle."
"Okay I won't, and I didn't tell uncle Jason. I went to ask him and did my homework with him," he replies. I wonder how Jason would react if he knew Cindy was telling off their nephew.
"Did she say that to you before Oli?" I ask resting my arms on my knees.
"No, but I heard her say it to mommy. Even grandpa and grandma were mean to mommy, I didn't want to see her sad," he answers, stopping to look at the ground. This makes sense now, why he wasn't so comfortable when they came by the house the other day. If Oli saw how they treated his mom back when she was alive, it impacted him and since he's still developing mentally, he saw it was wrong.
"Oli, come here," I say holding my arms open for him. He walks over quietly and I draw him close to me, well as close as I can since I'm still sitting on the stairs. "I promise that while I'm staying at your house, you won't have to see Cindy or grandparents. We'll tell your uncle together okay?" I say to him, carding my fingers through his hair.
"Okay," he quietly replies hugging me back. I hold him for a couple more seconds before letting him go and he livens up again, chattering about what he did in class today. "And Ms. Santiago said I could borrow two books tomorrow when we go to the library tomorrow," he says waving his arms in excitement.
"You like reading?" I ask chuckling.
"I love it!" he exclaims grinning. Maybe Jason should invest in a home library for him, I think it'd be pretty beneficial. I notice a jet black car rolling up to the school and it goes around the roundabout before stopping in front of us.
"Oli, come here for a second," I tell him waving my hand towards him. A dark car with tinted windows in a school zone, that can't mean anything good. I get up moving Oli to stand behind me, on the edge as the passenger window rolls down. My body tenses waiting for the inevitable but as soon as it's fully down and I see who's in the driver's seat, a wave of relief washes over me. Oli peeks around me to see who it is and his face lights up, running towards the car.
"Uncle Jax!" he exclaims, standing at the window.
"Hey buddy, you look happy to see me," Jax chuckles.
"Jax, what are you doing here? Where's Jason?" I ask stopping behind Oli.
"There was a situation downtown and Jason had to go in. He asked me to come get you guys," he answers as he turns off the engine and steps out the car.
"Oh okay, but why are you getting out?" I ask in confusion as he steps around to where we are.
"I'm giving these to you," he says tossing the keys to me.
"But why? Aren't you driving us home?" my confusion growing by the second.
"No, you'll be driving me back to the station instead, this is your car," he tells me and my jaw drops open when I hear that.
"No, no, this isn't my car," I say shaking my head and tossing the keys back to him.
"Yes it is, Jason got it for you," he answers, and the keys are once again thrown into my hands.
"Uh uh, this ain't mine. I can't take it," I say disagreeing with him.
"I don't think Jason will let you give it back. He knows you need a car and after what happened to yours, well, he didn't want you to worry about paying for a new one," he says shrugging his shoulders. "And this little man helped pick it out, didn't you?" he asks looking down at Oli who's been silently watching the exchange.
"Tori, do you like the car? I helped uncle pick it," he says grinning widely. I look from Oli to Jax and I know I'm in a tough spot. If I say I want the car, well both uncle and nephew will be overjoyed but if I say I don't want it, there's only one person who's going to be upset.
"I love it Oli, thank you so much," I tell him patting his head gently. And I'll definitely be having a word with your uncle later.
"Now that that's settled, let's get out of here," Jax says as he opens the back door for Oli to hop in. I go around the car to the driver's side, getting in and settling into the seat, the new car smell invading my nose. My fingers skim the steering wheel and the dashboard, still not believing Jason got this for me.
"Alright, let's get out of here boys," I say starting the engine and pulling out of the school. I won't lie and say that I don't like driving the car, it's ten times better than my old one. "Are you going to meet Jason?" I ask Jax.
"Yeah and Jason will probably get me to assist with the reports, my least favourite thing to do," he chuckles.
"I think anyone would hate having to do any kind of report," I snicker as I turn at the light, a couple of streets away from the station now. "He probably just enjoys your misery."
"Can't argue with that," he says as I turn into the station. I stop outside the entrance as Jax gets out closing the door behind him. "I'll see you later Victoria and you too little man," he says reaching out to give Oli a fist bump.
"Bye uncle Jax," Oli replies eagerly.
"Ready to go?" I ask Oli as I drive back out onto the street.
"Let's go!" he cheers. It's a quiet drive back to the house, and the traffic is light for a Friday afternoon as I turn down Jason's street. The first thing I see is a car sitting in the driveway and three people standing at the door.
Of course, they were going to come back, do people like them give up so easily? I park the car at the curb, killing the engine as the individuals watch my arrival. "Why is grandma, grandpa and Cindy here?" he questions as he looks out the window.
"I don't know Oli but just wait in here for a second," I tell him as I step out.
"Where is our grandson? We want to see him," is the first thing Sandra tells me as she stalks up to me.
"He's inside but I'm not letting you see him," I say crossing my arms over my chest.
"You can't stop us, you have no right to say that. We are his family and you're just some woman that's shacking up with Jason," she counters.
"Yeah, well this woman he's currently shacking up with is in charge of his well-being right now so you'd have to take it up with me," I smirk.
"You think you're so high and mighty, getting into our family business," Cindy scoffs as she steps beside her mom.
"I don't see why you care Cindy, after all you're the one that told a child to fuck off right?" I say with a glare. "In any case, so long as you guys are hanging around here, he's not getting out. We're going to eat out today," I say nonchalantly as I open the driver's door.
"We'll report you to the police," Sandra's husband who at this point I thought was a background character speaks up.
"Maybe your cells are already turning grey, at this point you're already becoming a fossil but newsflash, this kid's uncle is a police officer and he knows what kind of people you are," I sneer. "Two oldies that only knew how to harass his mother, a woman that insults children and is perfectly okay with being a tramp; I wonder which one of us he'll believe."
They look gobsmacked at my final words as I shut the door behind me and pull away from them. They're so ignorant and aggravating. I don't understand what they want with Oli, what their motive is. Cindy is obvious, she just wants to fuck Jason but her parents? Can't they tell he doesn't even like them? The day they came to the house you'd have to be pretty stupid to not see how he reacted.
"Victoria, where are we going?" Oli questions, breaking my train of thought. "Why did we leave them?"
"We are going to do something fun today instead of staying at home. I was thinking of going to play some basketball, you like that right?" I ask, glancing up at the driver's mirror.
"I love it!" he exclaims.
"We'll play for a bit and later we'll get some dinner, your choice okay?" I ask him as I focus back on the road. He starts chattering enthusiastically as I plan out my distraction for the evening. There's a recreation center not too far from the school and he can play to his heart's content. At least he'll forget about his fucked up family.

"Did you and Oli have a good time?" Jason questions as I step from the last stair, walking to where he's sitting going over some files. It's past ten, Oli and me coming back home an hour ago finding Jason neck-deep in work. Tonight I'm the one that put him to bed instead of his uncle.
"Yeah, we had a good time," I reply as I sit on the opposite chair from him, folding my legs underneath me. "I need to distract him for a bit, Cindy and her parents were here when we came home after school."
"What the fuck did they want?" Jason snarls as he lifts his head to look at me, his eyes blazing.
"They wanted to see him, still angry that you're shacking up with me and I'm getting into their business, their words not mine," I say shrugging my shoulders and rolling my eyes. "They even wanted to call the police on me, can you believe that?" Jason gets up from where he's sitting, dropping the papers in his hands on the coffee table before walking towards me. His hands gently clasp my cheeks as he leans down to kiss my forehead.
"Sorry you had to deal with that sweetheart," he murmurs before pulling me up to hug him. "Although they haven't threatened Oli I think I'll try to get a restraining order against them for now while he's still young."
"You probably should, Cindy told Oli off yesterday," I tell him, my words muffled into his shoulder.
"That piece of shit. I'm going to apply for one now," he tells me, his arms tightening around me.
"I think it's a good decision, he doesn't need that kind of influence in his life," I say agreeing with what he plans to do. "And Oli remembers things that even happened with his mom and them so that could be added in the report."
"They've always been pieces of shit and now they'll be gone. I can just picture their faces when they find out," he chuckles darkly.
"Honestly I'd love to see it too," I snicker for a couple of seconds before remembering something very important I had to bring up to him. I pull back from him and give him my best glare, my arms dropping to my sides.
"Victoria? What's wrong?" he questions and I can see he's trying to figure out what has me ticked.
"Jason, I'll just say it straight, why did you get me a car?" I don't need to beat around the bush, I'd rather get this done and over with.
"Your last car was totalled not to mention it was blown up," he tells me. "I know you needed a new one and you were still recovering from your injuries to think about it so I got one for you."
"I might have been focused on myself but at some point I would have started thinking about getting a new car. I just don't see why you had to get me one, you didn't need to do it since I've taken care of myself for the last decade," I reason. He's silent for a moment before pulling me back to him.
"Victoria, I wanted to do this for you. Some crazy shit happened and I didn't want you worrying about it. I know you can take care of yourself but for this moment I wanted to take care of you," his voice lowers and his thumb brushes my cheek.
"You're already taking care of me now aren't you? I'm staying here right?" I say raising a brow in challenge.
"I can't win can I? Then let's just say I wanted to spoil you," he says leaning down to peck my lips softly.
"Just this once Jason but don't do it again," I warn. "You really don't want to see me angry."
"I promise I won't," he says agreeing my order. "I'm pretty sure you'd be hot angry," he says smirking dangerously. I let out a bark of laughter as I place my hands on his chest. I stand up a bit and place my lips on his, kissing him for a couple of moments before pulling back.
"Although I wasn't too happy about it, I'll still say thank you Jason," I tell him as I go in to kiss him again. He quickly takes control over the kiss, his tongue moving against mine as his hands move under my shirt against my hot skin. He pulls back from my mouth kissing the corner of my eye as he looks down at me.
"I'll have to tell you, I got your car custom-made, bulletproof glass all around," he says calmly.
"Shut up, how'd you get that done," I ask, my eyebrows shooting up in surprise.
"You won't believe how many shitheads I had to see," he scoffs.
"How about you tell me," I push him back to sit on the sofa before sitting down on his lap, "And you can take a small break."
"With you sitting right here, I don't think I'll going back to work anytime soon," he smirks. It's peaceful as I listen to what he was doing while I was unconscious in the hospital. It's a shame that this bit of peace is only temporary with all the shit revolving around me and some that's still in the dark.

A/N So I took another break, I've just had a mental block for the last couple of days. In all honesty, I have the rest of the story planned out but for some reason I was stuck with this chapter. And the second I was so tired that every time I open my laptop and tried to write, by the end of it I'm thinking 'f*** this s***'. But now a new chapter is here!
What are your thoughts on the chapter? Jason got a new car for his girl and now he's pursuing a restraining order against Cindy and her family. All I can say now is that the drama will be picking up in the next couple of chapters and I'll be honest now, I'm estimating there might be 10-15 chapters left but remember that's just an estimation.
