Chapter 22
"Girlfriend?" the old woman, Sandra I'm assuming asks incredulously. "Someone like her is your girlfriend? She's not even the same as us." You've got to be fucking kidding me. I already know where this is going without her saying the obvious. It's normal to see mixed couples in society and it's pretty clear she and the rest of her lot don't seem to like people like myself, people of colour and different ethnicity.
"Mother, we came to see Oli, not to insult Jason's guest. It's pretty late so I'm assuming you will be going soon?" the woman Jason called Cindy asks with a sweet smile but her eyes aren't smiling.
"She lives here Cindy so she won't be going anywhere," Jason says in a sharp voice. "You three, on the other hand are the guests and all you've done is remind me why Emily couldn't deal with your bullshit." I have to hold back my chuckle as Cindy looks stunned when Jason snaps at her and both her parents have blank faces. I feel Oli stirring against my side and he slowly opens his eyes, yawning as he sits up straighter.
"Tori?" he asks in a sleepy voice.
"Oli, your favourite Aunt Cindy and your grandparents came to visit you," Cindy says in a cheerful voice. Oli looks at the three of them for a couple of seconds before focusing on Cindy.
"But Charlotte is my favourite aunt," he answers honestly and I snicker behind my hand at her flabbergasted face. Even Jason is holding back his laughter.
"Child, come say hello to your grandparents," Oli's grandfather snaps, speaking for the first time since he came in. Oli quickly gets up and gives a hug to all three of his relatives before diving back into my arms.
"Do you have somewhere to stay?" Jason asks them.
"We rented a hotel for the two of us but we were hoping Cindy could stay with you. It's best Oli has more of his family around him, not outsiders," Sandra says in a snide voice. I roll my eyes but keep quiet, holding myself back to not give them a piece of my mind. As much as I would love to, they're still Oli's family and I don't want him to see anything happening between us.
"And how long are you staying?" Jason asks crossing his arms over his chest.
"Today is Wednesday, we will be here until next Monday," she answers. "We had to come to see our grandson after hearing he was in an accident."
"Two days," he says.
"I beg your pardon?" Sandra asks in confusion.
"I'll let her stay two days, until Saturday and after that, I want you out of here. You can find a place to stay until you leave on Monday," he says giving Cindy an ultimatum.
"But Jason," she says in protest.
"Two days, that's it. I'm only tolerating you all because you're his aunt and grandparents," Jason snarls. Sandra huffs, ruffled at Jason's attitude and being told off.
"Fine, let's get going, Walter. We'll see you tomorrow sweetie," she says to Oli before turning to glare at me. I feel bad that Oli has fossils like that as grandparents, I guess we all have family problems. Jason goes to walk the two out and I'm left Cindy standing in front of me.
"It's laughable Jason is with someone like you," she says breaking the silence with laughter. "You won't be staying here for long now that I'm here." I feel arms tighten around me and a head shaking against my side.
"Tori, you can't leave. You said that you were staying with me and uncle," Oli whines. My lips tug in a soft smile as I pat his hair.
"I'm not leaving for a long while," I answer and I won't lie, maybe it's the inner pettiness in me but seeing Oli reject his bitch of an aunt like that in favour of me. Jason walks back to where we are and Cindy perks up when she sees him.
"Where will I be staying Jason?" she asks eagerly.
"I'll show you to the guest room in the basement," he tells her and her face crestfallen.
"I'll be sharing with her? Don't you have a spare room upstairs?" she demands.
"There's Oli's room, my room and my office. Victoria is staying with me so the room is free for you unless you don't want it," he asks challengingly. She shakes her head as she frowns.
"Fine, I'll sleep there," she agrees begrudgingly. "Goodnight Oli," she tells him as she opens her arms for a hug.
"Goodnight," he answers, not bothering to move to hug her and I hold back my laughter considering he just snubbed her. For a six-year-old, he's pretty savage.
"Victoria, do you mind taking Oli upstairs? I'll show Cindy to her room," Jason asks me. She takes her bags giving me one last glare before scampering behind Jason. I let out a small sigh when they're out of sight. Life, we need to have a serious talk. Why do you have to throw one bitch after another at me? There's only so much bitchiness I can take.
I nudge Oli to stand up and he takes my hand as we slowly walk to the staircase. We slowly go up and he keeps checking on me to see if I'm okay, if my leg can handle the steps; so adorable at how protective he is.
"Let's get you to bed Oli, it's been a long night," I say as we walk to his room.
"Tori, I want to stay with you and uncle," he says as we reach the door. I look at him in concern and I lean down so I'm at eye level with him.
"You don't want to stay in your room?" I question. He shakes his head and I decide to take him with me since I know Jason won't mind.
"Alright, we'll have a sleepover tonight with the three of us," I say agreeing to his request. "You want to grab your pillow?" He nods his head eagerly and he drops his hand as he runs into his room and grabs it plus a plushie dinosaur before coming back to me.
"We're ready," he says excitedly.
"Is that your friend?" I ask as we walk to Jason's room.
"Yup, mommy gave it to me," he replies as he bounds inside, climbing up on the bed.
"You like dinosaurs?" I ask as I sit down beside him while he moves under the blanket.
"They're my favourite, they're big and scary," he grins.
"Oh? And your not scared?" I chuckle.
"No, I'm six," he answers pouting.
"I'm sorry, I forgot that you're a big kid," I chuckle. "You should sleep now Oli, you still have school in the morning."
"Okay, goodnight Tori," he tells me as he hugs his plushie close to him.
"Goodnight," I answer. A few minutes pass before he falls back into sleep, a serene look on his face. I turn my head to the door when I hear footsteps coming inside, Jason pausing for a second as he looks at the two of us.
"Wanted to stay here tonight?" he asks in a low voice.
"Yeah, I don't mind," I tell him.
"I'm not surprised he'd want to stay here, I know he's not comfortable with the other side of his family," Jason sighs as he walks around to sit beside me.
"I wouldn't be comfortable with them either, racist pieces of shit," I hiss. He lets out a chuckle as he wraps an arm around my waist and I lean against him.
"Ever since I got custody of him I've lost count of how many times I've asked him if he doesn't want to talk to them anymore. You know just getting custody of him was a big problem. They wanted to take him but my sister and her husband left a will saying if anything happened to them I'd get custody of him," he tells me. "But those fuckers instead took me to court while I was there," he scowls.
"But you got him instead. I'm pretty sure your sister knew you were the better option instead of them. Imagine if he was living with them, he'd become like them," I point out.
"When my sister was still alive she'd tell me all the shit her in-laws would do to her. They use to tell her that their son made a mistake marrying her, that he was better off leaving her and taking their son instead, fuck, I got so pissed hearing that," he snarls. "They adored Oli but hated her."
"They're assholes," I say patting his thigh.
"And her husband was a fucking weak piece of shit, couldn't even tell off his parents. The reason why they don't like me is because the one time I went to visit I'm the one that gave them shit," he smirks as I chuckle listening to the story.
"How bad was it?" I ask in between chuckles.
"Sandra almost fainted from how many times I called her bitch, fuck, even my sister was surprised at how I went off at them," he chuckles. "The best part was that it was in front of all her old friends that came to the house for lunch, I was on a fucking roll."
"I wish I could have seen that fossil's reaction," I tell him picturing the image in my mind.
"I get the feeling you would have joined me," he says lifting me to sit across his lap. "I could tell you were holding back."
"I only did it for Oli's sake, I don't want him hating them," I say glancing at the sleeping child.
"Unless he tells me he doesn't want to see them anymore, I can't really refuse them," he says resting his chin on my shoulder. "And now I have to host their bitch of a daughter."
"It's only Thursday and Friday and by Saturday she'll be gone," I say, tracing the tattoos on his fingers.
"And then it'll be back to the three of us," he says moving to kiss the skin that's showing from my shirt. "You're going back to work?"
"Yeah, but just to the hospital. They want to check to see how my leg is healing and I asked them if they could give me a couple of hours to work. No use sitting around all day not to mention it's now convenient since there's a guest here," I tell him.
"When are you going? In the afternoon?" he questions.
"Yeah, when Oli gets home I'll be going," I answer as I turn to face him. "Though I'll have to figure a way around since my car was blown up."
"How about this, when I bring Oli back here I'll let you take my car so you can get to the hospital. If Sandra and her husband are coming during the day, I'd rather not leave Oli alone with them," he tells me. "But at the same time, I don't like the fact you're going out on your own." I move close to him, kissing him softly before cupping his face between my hands.
"It's scary to think what those shits will do if they catch me again but I'll be fine. I'll text you when I reach the hospital and when I'm leaving," I say to him, my thumb brushing his cheekbone.
"If anything happens to you, every single one of them is dead," he growls as he takes one of my hands linking our fingers together before moving to kiss me again. If something did happen to me Jason, I can only hope I'll still be alive to see it.

"You're not coming with me again Tori?" Oli asks with a pout as he puts on his shoes.
"Not today or tomorrow but next week we'll be going to school together again," I tell him as I hand his jacket.
"You're the one that's taking him? You're not even his family," a snide voice cuts in. I hold myself back from sighing when I hear Cindy's voice. From the time we woke up she's been making one side comment after the other, it's like she's waiting for me to react. If I have to compare her to something it'd have to be a dog.
When we came downstairs and she saw Jason she instantly perked up but as soon as she saw me you'd think she'd want to attack me on the spot. And I can't forget how she barely said a word to Oli, her own nephew that she supposedly 'came to see'; the whole time spent batting her eyelashes at Jason. She's not hiding the fact she only came to see Jason, hoping he'd give her the time of day.
"Well, I work in the school so it makes sense if I take him along," I answer. "But for now since I was injured I'm still on break." She opens her mouth to probably say something nasty but instantly brightens when Jason walks towards us in his uniform.
"Jason, I forgot you were an officer, you look handsome," she says flirtatiously.
"Thanks Cindy," he says dismissing her as he steps beside me. "I'll see you later?"
"Yeah," I reply as Oli hugs me before opening the door and stepping outside.
"Alright. If you're not feeling well or this gets painful," he points to my thigh, "Call me."
"I will, have a great day at work," I say stepping up to capture his lips in a kiss, purposely dragging it out with Cindy behind us.
"You're doing that on purpose sweetheart?" he chuckles, his mouth ghosting against mine.
"Maybe," I answer cheekily. "But for real, have a good day and stay safe."
"I'll see you," he says before giving me one last kiss and walking to his car where Oli is waiting. I close the door behind me and turn around to find Cindy fuming, her arms crossed over her chest.
"That had to be a fucking joke," she sneers.
"What was?" I ask as I brush past her to grab a glass of water.
"Jason, you, he let you kiss him like that," she prattles as she follows me.
"He's my boyfriend, I'm his girlfriend. I think it's okay for me to make out with him," I reply as pour water into the glass.
"He's going to regret being with you. It's obvious you're someone not of status," she continues.
"And what do you mean by status? That I'm not rich? That I'm not the same as you?" I ask taking a sip of water. "News flash hun, maybe you've fooled other guys with your facade but Jason can see right through that. He already knows your a bitch and of course, so do I. And I'll tell you this, he wants me more than he could ever want you."
"Why you piece of shit," she says stepping up to me and instead of hitting her, with a flick of the wrist, the remaining water in my glass is on her face and clothes. She lets out a screech as the water runs down her face, hair, and clothes while I'm holding back my laughter at the sight.
"You're only here today and tomorrow, and frankly I won't do anything to you for the sake of Oli so try not to piss me off," I say placing the glass onto the counter not too gently. "And be sure to clean up the mess here, you don't need me explaining to Jason what happened here, right?" I ask with a dark smile as I walk past her a smirk on my face as I settle in front of the television. Victoria one, bitch zero.

A/N Yes, we're all in agreement that Oli's family from his dad's side are s****And Victoria has to deal with one thing after another. Not to mention Oli can throw some real shade😂
But anyways, what's up everyone and how are you all doing? Honestly, the days are just blurring one after at this point I think every day is now Saturday. I'm trying so hard to take my time writing this story because when I started it in April I already wrote 17 chapters in a month and the number I have in my head, well, let's say I could probably finish mid-June.
But don't worry, I'm not going to rush since I have so many kickass ideas, it's a miracle my brain hasn't self-combusted yet. Anyways, leave your thoughts of the chapter in the comments!
