Chapter 19

"What problem?" he demands. I look at my mirror again as I hear him tell someone to track my number.

"We were leaving the bank and there were two men in the parking lot watching Oli and me. One of them had the tattoo," I tell him as I shift my phone between my ear and shoulder as I start to drive faster, weaving in between the cars.

"Sweetheart, we're tracking your number and following reports of the shots fired on the street. Whatever you do don't stop," he says as more bullets go off from behind us. I look up in time to see one car spin into the lanes driving in the opposite direction. Two cars slam into it and all the other cars coming from behind slam their brakes. Oh shit.

"Tori, what's happening? Why is it noisy outside?" Oli doesn't sound scared but he does sound uneasy with everything that's happening.

"Jason, I'll keep going but your window of getting to us is going to close if you don't hurry," I tell him as I continue to accelerate.

"I know, we just heard about the crash. Sit tight sweetheart, we'll get to you guys," he says as he hangs up. I throw my phone on the seat beside me, rolling my eyes at Jason's parting words, it's not like I can sit tight at the moment.

"Hey Tori, why are we going so fast?" Oli pipes up from behind me.

"Uh, I want to get home real fast so we can watch our movie together, I'm excited," I say in a tense voice as I make a hard right at the turning light. Scenes like this you'd only see in movies but here I am in a car chase, being hunted down in a game of life or death.

The street we're on now has lighter traffic, I pass by two cars before the road is empty in front of me. I recheck my mirrors and see the black car still trailing behind us, but from afar, I can hear the sound of sirens coming towards us. I feel relief surge through me for a moment but it's fleeting when I hear a shot go off, and I hear one of the back tires explode. The car starts to swerve and I have to press on the brakes so it doesn't spin out of control, but this is what they wanted.

"Oli, I need you to listen to me, take off your belt and get on the floor now and cover your ears," I shout as the car closes the distance between us. He looks frightened at my raised voice but silently does what I ask and I watch him shift onto the floor, his head out of sight. Jason, if anything happens to me at least nothing will happen to Oli. My car slows a bit and as the other car and I quickly duck my head as bullets are fired through the windows.

The glass of the window explodes inside, Oli's screams from behind me rattling my heart. I lift my head, the car in front of us slowing down and see one guy standing through the car's sunroof and it looks like he has a, wait, is that what I think it is? Oh fuck, fuck. I watch as he sets up a small machine gun in front of him. Do they not want me alive? It's a risky move, and there's a chance they'll shoot again but there's no way we can stay in here.

"Oli, we need to leave, come here," I say holding my arms out to him. He grabs onto them and it's a tight squeeze but I managed to pull him through the space from the front seats and into my lap. I push my chair back so I have more space to hold onto him and he's not pressed against the steering wheel.

The sirens sound like there a couple of meters away and it seems they're not sticking around to retrieve me. "Oli, I need you to trust me okay?" I say to the trembling child. I don't wait for his reply as I take my foot off the brakes, open my door and throw the two of us out.

Just as I do that, the man standing through the sunroof starts putting bullets where the engine is, Oli and I rolling out of the way as my car starts to swerve and I use my body to cover Oli's as it explodes behind us. The ground is shaking beneath us, my ears are ringing, and I hold onto Oli's head tighter as I feel the heat from the fire on my body. The sirens, they're so loud and I can hear them stopping a couple of feet from us. Hands touch Oli and I and I can feel him shaking against me.

"Sweetheart, Victoria, can you hear me?" Jason says frantically and my vision starts to swim a bit.

"Jason, Oli, take care of Oli," I mumble just as darkness washes over me and for the second time this month I pass out in his arms.

Concussion. Blood loss. Those are the last words I hear as my eyes flicker open. I squint slightly at the harsh light in the room and see two figures standing to my far left by the door, talking in a hushed voice, looking back at my figure on the bed before stepping out and closing the door behind them. I force my eyes open and realize there's beeping going around me.

I tilt my head and look to see monitors beside me, the wires trailing onto the bed, attached to me. I feel something shift against my side and I turn to find Oli curled up beside me, asleep. If I'm not wrong one of the people that just left was most likely Jason. I lift my arm, a lethargic sensation washes through me, but I force myself to keep going as I settle my hand on his hair, my fingers slowly brushing through it.

Okay, time to work out what the fuck happened. My current situation right now is that I'm in the hospital, it seems I'm the only person injured since Oli looks okay, but the question is why I'm here. Think Victoria, you might have just woken up but you seriously need to think. I close my eyes as I think long and hard for the reason why I'm here and it's like electricity goes down my body as the memories take over.

The bank, Eiichi's men, the car chase, being shot at, the car exploding. That really happened. Something I would have never dreamed of in a million years happened. Oli's head shifts under my fingers and I watch him lift his head, yawning slightly as he looks at me. I watch his eyes widen at the fact I'm awake and I'm not prepared as he jumps onto me.

"Tori, you're awake," he exclaims as his arms tighten around my body. "I was so scared, you didn't wake up." I slowly lift my arms and wrap them around his body, mindful of the wires stuck in my arm.

"Sorry I scared you Oli, can you forgive me?" I whisper as I rest my cheek onto his head.

"I'll forgive you," he says as he relaxes against me. I'll be honest, this kid is too cute for his own good. He wormed his way into my heart so fast, his enthusiasm, the smiles he's given me. And he could have gotten injured or worse because of what happened. I slowly start to move my arms in case he wants to leave but in return, I feel his tightening around me. It seems he's not ready to let go just yet, me not waking up must have been scaring him. That's fine with me, I'm perfectly content on holding him still.

"Hey Oli, what happened while I was sleeping?" I question as I go back to brushing his hair. "Were you hurt?"

"Uncle saved us, and we came to the hospital. I wasn't hurt but I got bandages," he says lifting his head and I see just below his hairline a bandage on his head. "And uncle said I have bruises," he adds. I gently touch the bandage and lean forward, lips brushing above it.

"I'm sorry you got hurt Oli," I tell him.

"It's okay. It doesn't even hurt," he says in bravado.

"Such a brave little man," I chuckle and he giggles with me. We're interrupted when we hear the doors sliding open, a familiar tattoo body stepping in. He glances at the bed, freezes in surprise to see I'm awake but quickly shakes it off as he slides the door behind him.

"Uncle Jason, look, Victoria is awake," Oli exclaims as he sits up slightly.

"I can see that buddy," he chuckles as he walks up to us. He sits down on the otherwise of me and holds Oli against me so he doesn't see as he leans in and presses his lips to my forehead before moving down to kiss me gently on the lips.

"Hey," I whisper as he pulls back.

"Hey sweetheart, you scared the shit out of me," he whispers back as he presses his forehead to mine. "Thought you weren't going to wake up."

"It's not my time yet, and I'm not going anywhere," I answer, giving him a small grin. We hear Oli whining he wants to be let out of our hug and Jason chuckles as he moves his arm and lifts him into his lap instead so he's not lying on me.

"Oli, Victoria is still resting so let's try not to hurt her by accident," Jason tells him.

"Fine," he answers, the pout not moving an inch.

"It's fine Jason, he wasn't hurting me or anything," I tell him as I open my arms for Oli. He looks at Jason for a second, waiting for Jason to give him the okay before he's diving back beside me. "Want to tell me what happened? Or at least how I landed myself here?"

"How much do you remember?" Jason asks me as he takes my free hand, linking our fingers together.

"I remember everything up until the car went off," I answer. "What took place after?"

"When I got to you, you passed out in my arms again. Paramedics had to be careful moving you because there was a piece of metal wedged into the back of your left thigh," he tells me. I remove my hand from his, go under the blanket over my body and I touch the thick bandage that's wrapped around it.

"Right when I was waking up I heard voices, I guess it was you and the doctor overseeing me, I heard him say blood loss and concussion," I say focusing back on him.

"You lost a lot of blood when they took it out, and you had a concussion from the explosion. Both of you did but you got the most impact," he tells me.

"And I'm guessing I was in a coma then?" I ask as I take my hand back out and he joins them together again.

"You were out for six days, today's the first of March," he answers. "You had some brain swelling since you already had a concussion and this was your second in a short period of time."

"And what about him?" I say looking at the child who fell back asleep from the ministrations against his head.

"Very mild bruising from when you guys jumped out of the car so he stayed the whole for two days, got discharged on Friday," he tells me. "When the guys told me you jumped out of the car with Oli in your arms I thought they were hallucinating."

"I'm surprised I managed to stay calm in that situation though in all honesty, I couldn't even think of myself, he was the only one I was thinking about," I say glancing at Oli again.

"As his uncle I say thank you for protecting him, I'm just glad your both safe," he says squeezing my hand.

"The shooters, what happened to them?" I question.

"They fled the scene after the car exploded. A couple of cruisers took some hits from bullets they fired but no on was hit," he answers.

"Your team is already looking for them?" I ask.

"Yeah, we even have a sketch made of the guy shooting from the sunroof. Oli helped," he chuckles.

"Oli did?" my voice pitched with surprise.

"He heard me and Jax talking about it when he was still in the hospital and just interrupted us saying he knows what he looks like," he smiles. "Turns out he's got a photographic memory and I didn't even know until a couple of days ago."

"And the car crash? Are those people okay?" I ask thinking back to the major accident we left behind.

"The drivers from the three cars were admitted here for life threatening injuries but I was told they'd survive," he tells me. "But out of all the shit that happened, I'm wondering how they found you or was it just by chance they saw you."

"No, I don't think it was by chance. I think they were waiting for me," I say to him. When I saw them it was like they were baiting their time before they could strike. "To be honest, I wouldn't be stunned if my shit of a step-sister had something to do with this."

"You mean if she contacted the yakuza and told them she had direct contact with you right?" he says finishing my thoughts.

"It's plausible right? I know she's not the one that found me at my apartment but there is a chance Eiichi might have talked to her before and she mentioned to him she's seen me in person," I say shrugging my shoulders.

"We're looking for her as well. As soon as we find her we'll question if she's involved with the yakuza. She's going to regret mixing in with them with the number of charges that are being put on her," he smirks.

"I want to know but at this moment I'd rather not ask," I chuckle as I lean back against my pillow.

"Rest for now sweetheart," he says as he leans forward to kiss my forehead again. "I'm going to get the doctor to check on you." I close my eyes, listening as Jason gets up from the bed and just as I'm being lulled back to sleep again, my eyes fly open, my body flies to sit up, mindful of the child clinging onto me. I wonder why I just remembered this now. Sure it's been at the back of my mind but did  my recent trauma jolt some old forgotten memories?

"Victoria, what's wrong?" Jason questions looking at me in concern.

"Jason, you know how we were at Charlotte's house the other day? And I met Cleo's family," I say as I look at him. "I didn't tell you but when I met Cleo, I had a prickling feeling I met her somewhere before, years back to be precise."

"Where specifically?" he asks, his tone changing from light to serious as he walks back to the bed.

"If my memory serves correct, it was before I was arrested. It was the day Eiichi turned eighteen, the day he became the new boss of the yakuza."

A/N Well, that just happened. What's up everyone! Last chapter I said s*** was going down and going down it did. The whole time I'm writing I'm thinking of Fast & Furious. But Victoria and Oli are okay and alive, nothing is going to happen to our faves.

In regards to the last chapter, I know some of you are confused but I changed up chapter 17 slightly to fit with this. And now, more is going down. Cleo may be involved? We'll have to see what happens next, won't we?

Anyways, be sure to leave your thoughts of the chapter in the comments.
