Chapter 11
"Tori? Why are you here?" Oli questions, stopping at the kitchen entrance as he looks at me in surprise. I look at Jason as he quietly continues to sip on his coffee as he focuses on whatever is on his phone. I turn in my chair to face Oli, I'll have to ask him after all if he's okay with me staying here.
"Uh, well Oli, I'm going to be living here for a bit," I tell him, a sheepish grin on my face. He looks at me in surprise before turning to face his uncle.
"You'll be sleeping over every day?" he asks in excitement.
"Yeah, I'll be here every day," I answer, chuckling at his excitement.
"This is going to be so cool!" he exclaims as he runs up to me.
"It will be but don't you think you should start on your breakfast? We don't want to be late," I tell him as Jason waves him over to where his breakfast is waiting beside him.
"Are you taking me to shcool?" he asks with a mouthful of cereal.
"Yes, but don't talk while your eating, you'll choke," I warn and he quickly snaps his mouth shut eating the rest of his breakfast in silence. I look over at Jason who's frowning deeply, whatever he's reading now probably pissing him off.
"What's wrong?" I ask him. His eyes glance over at Oli who's in his own world as he eats before meeting mine.
"Someone's apartment in your building got broken into last night. They weren't home but when they came back they found the place trashed," he tells me. A frown makes its way on my face as well. It's obvious my hunch last night was right. Those people I saw, the people my neighbours were talking about were Eiichi's men. Luckily for me, I got a heads-up and heads start to leave, and they also got the wrong apartment.
"Considering they got the wrong home, I doubt they'll be going back there," I say to him as my fingers clench around my mug. "They'll know I've probably left and I'm staying somewhere else. It's convenient that your house is far from my apartment and the school is also far from there."
"You're sure you can't think of any reason why they're looking for you?" he questions.
"No, and if I knew I'd give them whatever they wanted so they could leave me alone," I sigh.
"I'm done," Oli announces, interrupting the serious tension between us.
"Go get dressed bud and so we can leave," Jason tells him. Oli places his dishes by the sink before running back upstairs.
"Are you still looking for Cruz?" I question.
"Yeah, Jax and his team are still combing the streets for him. You think he's the one that exposed you?" he questions.
"I don't know, maybe. I did piss him off after all after I refused to have sex with him," I say shrugging my shoulders. "But at the same time how would he know them?"
"We'll look into it but whatever happens now, be careful. Most probably they were looking for you earlier, maybe even years and now your location has landed in their laps. For now don't trust anybody and that includes your friends, the one at the bar and the one at the hospital," he tells me.
"I'll have to tell Cora I can't come to the bar anymore, at least until this is solved and as for the hospital, I'm only called on a needed basis so I don't have to worry about that," I muse. He nods his head as he finishes his coffee and walks to place it in the sink. He comes to stand behind me as I lean back against him and he wraps his arms around my shoulders.
"You'll get through this and then things will go back to normal," he tells me as I place my hand on his arm. "We should go get ready since I'm dropping you two off."
"Why I didn't change into my work clothes after I showered I don't understand," I sigh as he drops his arms and I move back getting out of the chair.
"You looked like you weren't awake still when you came downstairs. The coffee is the one that revived you," he chuckles as he follows me up the stairs.
"I was exhausted," I reply, turning a bit to look at him.
"I wonder why," he says with a smirk. I roll my eyes as I walk to his bedroom while he stops to check and see if Oli is ready to leave. I'm talking off the sweater I borrowed from Jason and I hear the bedroom door close behind me.
"I wouldn't have expected you to have a tattoo," I hear him say as he walks up behind me. I freeze holding his sweater against my chest as his fingers brushing against my neck going down my back.
"I got it done when I was with yakuza," I tell him. "Eiichi insisted it would look good on me and his mom introduced me to a friend of theirs who would do it for me."
"I won't lie it looks sexy, but what does it mean?" he questions. The lettering isn't in English but in Japanese writing instead, kanji to be specific.
"The first part is my mother's name and the date of her birth date plus death date. The second part is something I told I used to tell myself, wake up each day with a smile on your face and have sass in your step," I tell him, my voice getting soft. "It's not a great memory considering who I got it with but I needed something positive when I was with them."
"I happen to like it, looks good on you," he says and I feel him kiss my back.
"I happen to like it too," I say turning around, a small smile on my face. I finish dressing, the only distraction coming from Jason when he saw me in my lingerie, stopping me to kiss me deeply.
"You ready?" he questions as he fixes his uniform.
"I'm ready," I reply as I fix my turtle neck and tie back my hair. I look over at him, my eyes fixated on the way his uniform, the way it hugs his body and tightens when his muscles flex. I wouldn't mind being pressed against that body again like last night.
"You're staring," he says breaking me out of my thoughts, a smirk on his lips.
"My eyes appreciate what they see," I say with a smirk of my own. He steps up to me, his arm curling around my waist, his lips almost touching mine when we hear Oli calling our names.
"We're being summoned," I say, stepping back to walk towards the door.
"Let's go before he starts yelling from outside the house, don't know how many mornings we went through like that," he tells me as he steps back into his closet and I hear the sound of buttons being pressed. He walks back out strapping a gun to his holster, and the noise of the buttons make sense, a safe for his gun. He grabs his jacket before following me downstairs.
"What's the rush Oli?" I ask as he stands at the door looking at us impatiently.
"I have gym right now and I forgot," he replies. "We're playing basketball today."
"You like basketball?" I ask as I slip on my coat.
"I love it a lot," he answers happily.
"Do you want to be a basketball player when you're older?" I question as I put on my shoes.
"I will when I'm nine," he says nodding his head. A chuckle slips from my lips at the thought of a nine-year-old playing professional basketball.
"I know you will," I grin as ruffle his hair. "You ready to go?" I ask Jason as he hands Oli his lunch bag.
"Yeah let's go," he replies as he ushers us out. It's a quiet drive to the school, the only sound in the car is Oli's excited chatter in the back. We reach the school with fifteen minutes to spare as Jason slows down the car at the front of the school.
"Hurry up uncle," Oli says as he unbuckled his belt. I hear Jason chuckling from beside me as he goes out to open the door for him. As soon as Oli's booted feet hit the snow he's running as fast as he can to the front door.
"Is he always this excited when it comes to a class he likes?" I ask Jason as I get out of the car.
"I swear it's almost every day," he replies as Oli stops to wave at him.
"That's precious," I chuckle. "Anyways, I have to head in inside too and get things ready but I will see you later," I tell him as I lean in to kiss his cheek as I walk to the building. I feel a hand on my wrist and I gasp as I'm spun around,
"What kind of goodbye was that?" he questions leaning in with a smirk.
"It was a goodbye that's appropriate for school grounds," I reply with a smirk of my own.
"You win this round sweetheart," he laughs as he pulls back. "Before you go, let me give you this." He reaches into his jacket pocket and pulls out a silver key.
"Jason," my voice trails off as I look at the object.
"I'll stop after school today to pick you both up since you don't have your car but for the future, you can let Oli and yourself in instead of waiting," he reasons.
"You're sure?" I ask, my eyes meeting his.
"Definitely," he answers, his smirk falls instead replaced with a grin.
"If you insist," I answer as I take the key from him. I don't know what I'm feeling inside. I'm not jumping for joy but I'm not unhappy either, it's a muted soft feeling. I hear the first school bell ring and I know they'll be locking the front doors in five minutes. "Okay, now I really have to go but I'll see you later."
"Have a good day Victoria," he answers before leaning down to give me a soft kiss. I pull away and kiss him on the cheek as I quickly turn and run into the school. It'd look bad if a faculty member was late. I look at the key in my hand and a small smile is on my face as I put it in my pocket.
"So, who was that sexy man you were talking with outside?" a voice startles me from behind.
"No one important Camryn. Shouldn't you be getting to class right now?" I ask with a tight smile.
"Oh yes, I can't be late to teach my eager students," she gasps. "But don't think you're getting out of this," she says before sauntering away and I let out a sigh. Fuck, just what I need, to be at the top of the rumour mill again. Well, whatever I think as I walk down the hall to my office. At the moment, I don't think there's anything that can really damper my mood.

"You're sure it's okay to come in?" Haruto questions.
"You called me earlier and I'm already in my uniform. If you tell me I'm not needed I'll come over there right now and put you in a hospital bed," I threaten.
"No you're still needed, thanks Tori," he says before hanging up. Oh Haruto, sometimes you frustrate my soul. I hear the front door being unlocked and I walk out of the kitchen to meet Jason.
"Hey, welcome home," I greet Jason as he walks into the house later at night. I freeze for a moment, it's such a domestic greeting. When was the last time I greeted someone for coming home? He takes one look at my appearance as he closes the door behind him.
"They called you in tonight?" he questions as he takes off his shoes.
"Yeah, they need an extra hand tonight so they called me in," I answer as I fix my nurse uniform.
"Where's Oli?" he asks as he steps closer to me wrapping his arms around my waist.
"He's been asleep since eight," I reply as I place my hands on his chest. "I'm going in for a couple of hours, the latest I'll be done is one."
"Okay, stay safe and if you need me for anything don't hesitate to call," he says as his arm tightens around me, no doubt remembering what happened the last time I left the hospital.
"I will," I reply as I stand up to kiss him. His arms press me close, the kiss slow between us as our lips mould against one another. I pull back from him as he leans down, his lips against my forehead. He let's go of me after a couple of minutes as I throw on my jacket and put on my shoes.
"I'll see you later," I tell him as I walk out quickly to my car. I turn on the engine waiting for it to heat up as I reply to a message from Cora asking me why I can't work at the bar anymore. I'll have to explain to her the next time I'm free.
I back out of the driveway and I'm soon driving down the street, the late-night music filling the emptiness in the car. I reach the hospital pretty fast and park in the employee's parking lot. I get out greeting the police officers that are standing at the entrance and go straight up to the pediatric ward.
"Tori, your finally here," Haruto calls out as he walks up to me. "There's been a slight change of plans. You'll be working on the other side of the hospital in the emergency department," he says as he hands me a clipboard.
"Why the change-up?" I question as I take it from him.
"I don't know but one of the senior nurses told me to tell you that," he answers with a shrug.
"Fine, I'll see you later," I tell him as I turn to make the long trek to the other part of the hospital. I scan through the names on the list but my eyes widen when I see one, the clipboard tumbling out of my hands as it crashes to the floor, the sound echoing the silent hospital. Devin Marshall.
