"Zaara dear, please stop playing around with your food." My uncle said side eyeing me from across the table. I silently nodded and then continued to play with it making him sigh.
My mother put a hand over my mine, a way for her to say "stop" and then continued to eat her food. I stopped playing with my food and started slowly chewing it down.
My uncles and their wives don't live here, but there here every damn day for dinner and it's annoying sometimes.
I was distracted thinking about my conversation with father and mother and I couldn't help but feel something different on the fact that perhaps father didn't genuinely liked me.
Granted, he hangs around us siblings and talks to us, but there was just something about Zoya that he loved more.
Is there a reason he doesn't like me?
Maybe I did something in the past...but if I did do something I would remember it...
Maria came suddenly swiflting through to me and picked up my plate which was half empty, I didn't feel like eating any more so I was grateful for that.
She picked up everyone else's dishes and started to turn around but I caught a glimpse of something on her dress.
I narrowed my eyes and saw something...purple? I followed her with my eyes until she left the room, except she wasn't heading towards the kitchen.
"Excuse me," I said to no one in particular and quickly followed behind Maria making sure she doesn't see me.
I followed her until we headed to the west wing, where no one ever went. In fact I, as well as the whole family, were strictly forbidden by my grandfather to ever come here.
But... he's not around now is he?
Maria stopped outside a door and knocked 3 times, she stood there for a second and then opened the door and closed it behind her.
I raised an eyebrow and quietly made my way to the door. I pressed my ear against it trying to hear anything but I couldn't hear a damn squeak inside.
Maybe the room was sound proof?
I heard footsteps suddenly which proved the room wasn't sound proof at all, and before I could hide the door swung open and Maria stared at me wide eyed. "Zaara?" She whispered before hurriedly turning around and closing the door.
But before she did, I saw a glimpse of someone sitting on a chair facing the window, she was wearing some sort of a dress and her hair was in a low ponytail.
"Zaara, you are forbidden to come here!" Maria hushed quickly checking to make sure no one else was behind me.
"Chill, I'm here by myself," I stared at the one door in the west wing that wasn't dusty. "Who's in there?"
Maria shook her head "Nobody! Come along now." She grabbed my wrist and dragged me away from the door, but for some reason I couldn't shake the feeling that I had to open that door.
"Now, I'm supposed to report this to somebody but because this is the first and last time you do this, I won't tell anybody if you promise not to tell anybody as well."
The desperation in Maria's voice made me uneasy, she was never this tense around us. I nodded and she let out a quick breath "Good," she stared down at her watch "You should go, you have dress rehearsals in an hour."
I nodded and didn't look back until I made it to my room.
I closed the door behind me and scrunched my eyebrows together trying to imagine what secret layed behind that door.
But then suddenly, it all clicked.
Rayyana was behind that door.
