"Look, Daddy! She smiled!"

"I saw, Dean"

It's night time in Lawrence, Kansas. Crickets chirp as a large ominous tree sways in the wind outside one of the suburban houses that line the street.
Inside the house, a woman wearing a white nightgown, carries a four-year-old boy, Dean Winchester, into a medium sized room. "Come on, let's say night to your brother." Mary sets Dean on his feet before switching on the lights, lighting up the nursery where her youngest son, Sam Winchester, lays in his crib and looks up at his mother.
Young Dean Winchester leans over the cot and kisses his brother on the forehead. "Night, Sam." Mary smiles down at her six-month-old son as she brushes Sam's tuff of hair back and places a kiss on his forehead as well.
"Hey, Dean."
At the sound of his father's voice, Dean turns and sees none other than John Winchester leaning in the doorway. The four-year-old boy smiles and rushes towards him.
"Daddy!"
"Hey, buddy."
John scoops Dean up and walks closer to Sam's cot while smiling down at his eldest. "So, what do you think? You think Sammy's ready to toss around a football yet?" Small Dean looks up at his father, shaking his head while laughing.
"No, Daddy."
John laughs. "No. What about Juliet?" Dean laughs again. "Daddy! She's one."
Mary smiles as she passes John and Dean on the way out of the room, looking down at her son before looking at her husband.ย
"You got him?"
John nods his head and hugs Dean closer. "I got him." The father of two then smiles down at his second born. "Sweet dreams, Sam."
After shutting the door to Sam's nursery, John makes his way towards Dean's room and switches on the light. The inside of Dean's room is just like any ordinary four-year-olds room except for the crib pushed into the corner of the bedroom.
Inside the crib lay a baby girl who's fast asleep. After setting Dean down on his feet, the small boy walks up to the white cot in his room and leans down. Just like he did with Sam, he kisses the baby girl on the forehead.
"Goodnight Juliet."
As if sensing Dean near, Juliet wakes up and smile's her baby smile up at him and lifts her hand, making a grabby gesture towards the young boy.
Dean laughs and places one of his hands in one of her small ones. Juliet grips one of his fingers as Dean looks towards John who is now standing by his sons side. "Look, Daddy! She smiled!" John laughs and looks down at the one-year-old girl to see the adorable smile still on her face.
"I saw, Dean."
John Winchester then ushers Dean into his bed, tucking him in, and kisses him on the forehead before moving to the door. The older Winchester looks towards his Son. "Night, Dean." His brown eyes then move towards the crib. "Goodnight, Juliet." The baby girl coos from her crib, as if she's replying to Johns "goodnight" with her own.
John smiles, then turns the bedroom light off before shutting the door behind him.
HOURS LATER
As Mary Winchester lays in bed, the lights start to flicker on the baby monitor that sits on her nightstand next to a photo of her and John. Strange noises start to come through the baby monitor, Mary, asleep in her bed, starts to stir.
She turns on the light that is on the nightstand before sitting up in her bed, still trying to make sense of things as she had just woken up.
"John?"
Mary turns her head to the side to see an empty space beside her. The blond woman then looks to her nightstand where two baby monitors lay, one for Juliet and one for Sam.
Seeing that it's Sam's baby monitor that is going off, Mary sighs before getting up and exiting her and John's room. The mother of two walks down the hall to Sammy's nursery. She nudges the door open and looks at John's figure standing over the crib.
"John? Is he hungry?"
John turns his head and shushes his wife. Mary shrugs. "All right." She then heads back down the hallway. As she passes the stairs, a light starts to flicker. Mary frowns as she makes her way towards it, tapping it until it stops flickering.
"Hm."
Another flicker of light comes from downstairs which grabs Mary's attention. As she peers into the lounge she sees that the tv is on and a random war movie is showing. She casts her eyes to the chair in front of the tv and sees John asleep on the chair, an empty beer bottle hanging from his relaxed hand.
Mary realizes that the man in Sam's room is not in fact John. Scared for her Son, the blond woman rushes back up the stairs, almost tripping over her nighty as she does.
"Sammy! Sammy!"
Mary enters her sons nursery and stops short.
Downstairs John has been abruptly woken up by the sound of his wife screaming. Dropping the empty beer bottle to the floor, John rushes up the stairs, calling his wife's name in worry. The older Winchester bursts through the closed door of the nursery, where he heard Mary scream.
"Mary."
The room is quiet as John looks around, and appears empty except for Sam who lays awake in his crib and John being in the room. The older man glances around the room one more time before pushing down the sides of Sam's crib.
"Hey, Sammy. You okay?"
Something dark then drips next to Sam, landing on his pillow. John furrows his eyebrows as he touches it. Two more drops land on the back of his hand. John then notices that it looks a lot like blood. He looks up to the ceiling, where the drops were coming from.
There Mary is, sprawled across the ceiling, the mid-section of her nightgown now soaked in crimson red from her blood. She stares at John as she struggles to breathe. The air from his lungs is knocked out of him as John collapses to the floor, staring at Mary in shock.
"No! Mary!"
Before John can blink, Mary bursts into flames. The fire spreading over the ceiling. John just stares, still frozen. Sam wails from inside of his crib and it's then John is reminded that he isn't alone and gets up and scoops Sam out of his crib before rushing out of the room.
Dean, who had woken up from the commotion, turns the corner with Juliet in his arms, coming to investigate. Seeing the bright flames engulf Sam's nursery, the small boy turns to his Dad in fear.
"Daddy!"
John turns at the sound of his other Son's voice and shoves Sam into Dean's only free arm. "Take your brother and Juliet outside as fast as you can and don't look back!" Seeing his Son still standing there, John shouts a little louder with urgency in his tone. "Now, Dean, go!"
Dean turns and runs the best he can with two babies in his arms. John turns back to the nursery. "Mary!" The entire room is now on fire. Mary can now barely be seen, being swept under the bright orange flames.
"No!"
Dean runs outside as Juliet and Sam start to whimper in Dean's arms. The four-year-old looks down at both babies and gently shushes them. "It's okay, Jules. Sammy." Dean turns to look up at Sammy's nursery window, which is lit with gold.
John runs outside and scoops up Dean, Sam and Juliet, and carries the three of them away. "I gotcha." Fire explodes out of Sam's nursery room window as neighbours come out of their houses, looks of horror on their faces.
It's a few minutes later when the Lawrence fire department arrives. One of the firefighters gets out of his fire truck and takes over at the gauges for another firefighter.
"I got it. You go hold the line up."
The second firefighter goes to the back of the truck and takes a hose from a third firefighter. That firefighter then takes the hose towards the house where a fourth firefighter is spraying the water through Sam's nursery window as a paramedic opens the back of an ambulance. A police officer waves some of the neighbours back.
"Stay back! You have to stay back."
Across the street from the house, John and Dean sit on the hood of John's 1967 glossy black Chevy Impala.
John holds Sammy as Dean holds Juliet, clutching her close to him. John looks up at the remnants of the fire, tears in his eyes, grief-stricken and silently vowing to get his revenge on the thing that killed his wife.
