"I love you, Mommy."

"I love you too, Harls."
โข โข โข
Juliet and Dean lay in bed, sleeping with Harlow between them, the little girls limbs sprawled out. Her hand is in Dean's face as her feet touch the back of Juliet's legs. Both parents unfazed as they sleep soundly, used to how their daughter sleeps. Sam lays in the bed opposite, tossing and turning as nightmares plague his mind as he sleeps. Scattered images enters his subconscious. Images of the house where him, Dean and Juliet grew up, but the house isn't the same. It's not a nightmare of his mother being plastered on the ceiling as bright orange fire burns around her, no. The snippet of images show a woman banging on a window of the old house, screaming. It's like she's looking directly at Sam, screaming for his help.
The last thing he sees is the crooked tree outside the front of the house before his eyes flash open as he breaths heavily.
Sam wakes up in a cold sweat, he turns to the clock on the beside table, two-thirty in the morning. He rubs a hand down his face, letting out a sigh as he knows that trying to go back to sleep will be fruitless. He turns to a sleeping Dean, Juliet and Harlow. Chuckling as he sees Dean hanging out of the bed, if his brother moves an inch more he'd be on the floor. He shakes his head as he quietly gets out of bed, being sure not to make a sound that could wake his brother, best friend and niece up.

The next morning, Sam lays awake in his bed, drawing a tree on some motel paper, as Dean and Juliet sit at the table, coffees in front of them as the former of the two has his laptop out in front of him, searching for cases.
Harlow sits on Dean and Juliet's bed, playing with her dolls as Dean turns to his brother, "All right. I've been cruisin' some websites. I think I found a few candidates for our next gig. A fishing trawler found off the coast of Caliโ- it's crew vanished. And, uh, we got some cattle mutilations in West Texas..." Dean looks up at Sam and notices that his brother looks to be in a world of his own, "Hey." Sam looks up at the sound of Dean's voice and turns to the man who motions to the paper in his hand, "Am I boring you with this hunting evil stuff?"
Juliet shakes her head as she looks at Dean, "Leave him alone, hon. He didn't have a very good sleep last night." Sam looks up at hearing those words, his eyebrows furrowed. He goes to open his mouth and say something but Juliet cuts him off before he can get the chance to utter a single word.
"I'm a light sleeper, Sammy. I have to be with how Dean snores."
The said man shoots his girlfriend an offended look, "Hey. I don't snore!" Juliet turns to him, a smile on her face. "Oh, of course you don't honey." She looks back to Sam and sends him a wink. The younger Winchester brother shakes his head and turns to his brother before Juliet can question him on why he was up late into the night, "I was listening, Dean. Keep going."
The said man looks back to the laptop screen and does just that, "...And, here, a Sacramento man shot himself in the head. Three times." He looks back up to Sam to see his concentration back on whatever it is he's doing. He looks to Juliet, who shrugs her shoulders, before waving a hand to try and get his brother's attention. "Any of these things blowin' up your skirt, pal?"
Sam ignores him and instead raises an eyebrow as he sits up and looks at the pieces of motel paper, flicking through them as he looks at the tree he has drawn. The one from his dream the night before. "Wait. I've seen this."
Dean turns to Juliet, "Looks like I was talkin' to myself."
Juliet gets up from the table and rubs Dean's arm as she passes him to put her, now empty, coffee mug on the side. "Don't take it personally, we all have days where we're not ourselves. Maybe Sam is havin' one of them?" Dean shrugs his shoulders in reply before watching Sam as he gets up from the bed and searches through his duffel bag.
"Seen what?"
Sam doesn't reply and continues to look through the duffel bag, piquing Dean's curiosity more. And even Juliet has to admit, Sam's got her interested in whatever it is he's doing. She turns to him with her head tilted to the side, "What are you doin'?"
The two hunters watch as Sam holds up an old photo and compares it to the tree sketched on the paper. Sam's eyes bounce between the photo of him, Dean and Juliet outside the house in Lawrence, Kansas with Mary and John and the tree he's sketched. The tree from the photo and the tree from the drawing look identical, at least in his eyes they do. He turns to Dean and Juliet, the former still by the kitchen sink, cleaning out her mug of coffee.
"Guys, I know where we have to go next."
Dean raises an eyebrow, "Where?"
The next words out of Sam's mouth are enough to shock Juliet.
"Back homeโ- back to Kansas."
Juliet drops the mug she is holding, the porcelain breaking into small shards. She cusses under her breath as one of the shards pricks her finger as it breaks, blood oozing out immediately. Dean instantly jumps up from his seat and briskly walks over to Juliet, gently taking her finger in his hand, grabbing a towel and wrapping it around her finger as he replies to Sam, "Okay, random. Where'd that come from?"
Sam approaches the two, photo and drawing still in hand, as he turns to them and shows them to the two hunters. "All right, um, this photo was taken in front of our old house, right? Where mom died?"
Dean nods his head, still applying pressure to Juliet's right index finger. He narrows his eyes at his little brother, skeptical on where he's going with this. "Yeah."
"And it didn't burn down, right? I mean, not completely, they rebuilt it, right?"
Juliet raises an eyebrow at Sam, "Not to be that person, but where are you going with this, exactly?"
Dean nods his head, "I guess so, yeah. What the hell are you talkin' about?"
Juliet gives him a look at his use of language, Dean winces in response before pulling the towel away from her finger, the bleeding now stopped, and placing a gentle kiss upon the cut in apology as Sam shakes his head, wanting, no...needing the couple to listen. "Okay, look, this is gonna sound crazy but...the people who live in our old houseโ- I think they might be danger."
Dean and Juliet share a look at that before turning back to look at Sam, the former of the two raising a curious eyebrow. "Why would you think that?" Juliet narrows her eyes as Sam starts to stumble on his words, a tell-tale sign that he's keeping something from them.
"Uhh...it's just, um... look, just trust me on this, okay?"
He starts to walk away but Dean and Juliet follow after him, not about to let Sam get away from them or the topic that easily. "Wait, woah, woah, trust you?"
Sam gives Dean a curt nod of his head, "Yeah."
Dean sighs, "Come on, man, that's weak. You gotta give us a little bit more than that."
"I can't really explain it is all."
Dean shakes his head, "Well, tough. I'm not goin' anywhere until you do."
Sam sighs as Dean crosses his arms, waiting expectantly for Sam to give them an answer. Feeling like this isn't going to go well, Juliet turns to Harlow. "Hey, sweetie? Why don't you go and play dollies outside while me, your dad and uncle have a talk."
The five year old groans, "But mommy-"
Juliet gives her a look, "I wasn't asking, Harlow."
The little Winchester gets off the bed with a groan before sulking out of the room, shutting the door behind her so the "adults" can talk.
With his niece now out of earshot, Sam turns to both Dean and Juliet with a sigh, knowing that what he's going to say next will sound far-fetched to Dean and Juliet. And that's saying alot with the job that they do. "I have these nightmares..." Dean nods his head, "Yeah, we've noticed." Sam gives him a look before continuing, "...And sometimes...they come true."
Dean, stunned, stares at his brother not blinking.
"Come again?"
"Look, Dean...I dreamt about Jessica's deathโ- for days before it happened."
Juliet gives Sam a soft look at hearing that, having an inkling that, that's what he decided to use to lure Mary into the mirror all those weeks ago. "Sammy...I-" The said man cuts her off with a shake of his head, "I'm fine, Jules."
Dean, head still reeling over the fact that his brother has dreams, no, nightmares, that have been coming true, shakes his head as he tries to comes up with a reasonable explanation as to why. "Sam, people have weird dreams, man. I'm sure it's just a coincidence."
Juliet watches him, concerned as Dean sits down on the bed, his eyes looking like he's not all there and is in deep thought as Sam shakes his head, not about to have his brother play it off like it's nothing, "No, I dreamt about the blood dripping, her on the ceiling, the fire, everything, and I didn't do anything about it 'cause I didn't believe it. And now I'm dreaming about that tree, about our house, and about some woman inside screaming for help. I mean, that's where it all started, man, this has to mean something, right?"
Dean, feeling overwhelmed, shrugs his shoulders as his breathing starts to pick up.
"I don't know."
Sam moves and sits across from Dean as Juliet sits next to her boyfriend and rubs his back in comfort, which seems to be working but only just. Sam tilts his head, "What do you mean you don't know, Dean? This woman might be in danger. I mean, this might even be the thing that killed mom and Jessica!"
Juliet shakes her head, knowing that it isn't the same thing because if it was, John would be around and would have left them coordinates for them to follow to shake them off his trail. She decides to keep her thoughts to herself and not voice them to the Winchester brother's. She's broken out from her thoughts as Dean gets up from the bed and starts to pace up and down the carpeted floor, "All right, just slow down, would ya? I mean, first you tell me that you've got the shinning? And then you tell me that we've gotta go back home? Especially when..."
Dean trails off as Sam tilts his head in confusion like a lost little puppy.
"When what?"
Juliet, seeing that Dean is still overwhelmed, decides to answer for him.
"When we swore to ourselves that we would never go back there. Sammy, look, while you were off at college, me and Dean...we agreed that we would never go back to that house, especially with Harlow. I swore to myself that I wouldn't even go near the street again. I'm scared of what memories it will bring up of my parents. What if it brings up a memory that I didn't know I had suppressed?"
Sam gives both his brother and his best friend a soft look, now understanding why they don't want to go back, and he gets it, he does. But if there's a persons life at stake, he knows they'll make the right call.
"Look, guys, we have to check this out. Just to make sure."
Dean and Juliet share one last longing look, having a silent conversation with their eyes. Juliet gives a subtle nod of her head that has Dean sighing before turning to Sam, "I know we do."
โข โข โข
Dean pulls up outside their childhood house, but Juliet's eyes isn't on the Winchester house, they're on the house opposite. Her parents old house. The exterior is painted a baby blue with a slanted roof and square bay windows. Her heart aches at the sight of it.
Dean watches her from the rearview mirror, seeing the sadness relflected in her eyes. He looks to the house that used to belong to the late Joseph and Lydia Sullivan, Juliet's mom and dad. Being older than Juliet, he remembers spending a lot of time in that house, seeing as Juliet's parents were Mary and John's best friend's. He moves his eyes back to his childhood home, memories of the fire playing out in his mind.
Sam notices the look of thought on his brother's face, hearing Dean's breathing pick up, he looks at his brother in concern.
"You gonna be all right, man?"
Dean exhales a deep breath before glancing at his brother, "Let me get back to you on that."
With that, the family of four get out of the car, Juliet taking a look at the Winchester house. Her heart beats ten to a dozen as she eyes the front door of the old house, she narrows her eyes as a memory she didn't know she had, hits her hard.
November 1st, 1983
One year old Juliet is cradled in her mother's arms as the said woman Lydia and her husband Joe carry their daughter across the road and to the house opposite their's.
Joseph and Lydia Sullivan share a look before the former of the two walks up to the door and knocks three times. Joe wraps his arms around his wife as the front door to the house opens.
Joe's brown doe eyes look down and smile at the four year old that is Dean Winchester as the said boy opens the door. "Hey, little dude."
Hearing the man's voice, Dean smiles a toothy smile before looking over his shoulder, glancing at someone standing behind the door. "Daddy, uncle Joey's here!"
The gruff voice of John Winchester can be heard, "Let him in, Dean."
The four year old opens the door wider and lets the Sullivan family in, chuckling as Joe ruffles his hair as he passes him. Dean eyes are instantly drawn to Lydia and the baby in his arms and smiles a toothy grin as he bounds over to the mother and daughter, "Can I see her? Can I? Can I? Can I?"
Lydia chuckles at the excitment which is evident in young Dean's voice. She nods her head as she gently crouches down to the four year old's height so he can get a better look at her daughter.
The smile on Dean's face widens as he holds out one of his little fingers that Juliet clutches in her tiny fist. "Hello, Juliet." The one year old gurgles in reply, as if she's replying to Dean's greeting with one of her own.
Lydia chuckles as she smiles down at the two, having an inkling that they're gonna be the best of friends when they grow up, just like her and Mary wants. Speaking of the mother of the Winchester boys, she walks in and makes a beeline straight for Lydia, a smile on her face as she stands behind Dean and looks at the baby girl.
"She has Joe's eyes, Lyd. But she's the spitting image of you."
Lydia smiles as Mary holds her arms out for her Goddaughter, Lydia obliges and hands baby Juliet over to the blonde woman. Thankful for the break on her arms, she loves her daughter but the more she grows the heavier she becomes.
"Lydia."
Hearing her husband call her name, she walks over alongside Mary. The Winchester parent's look to the Sullivan parent's, John eyeing the two with a raised eyebrow.
"So you caught wind of a werewolf? In Kansas?"
Joe nods his head, " I know we were a bit surprised to say the least but it should be a quick job and we'll be back before dawn. Lydia has all of Juliet's stuff in the bag. Please John, just for tonight."
Mary and John share a look at hearing Joe's words, when Mary was pregnant with Dean, the both of them swore they were done with the hunting life, but Lydia and Joe? It seems as soon as they had Juliet, it only fueled their passion for hunting more, using the excuse that they need to make the world a better place for their daughter.
John sighs, "Joe, is this really a good idea? Huntin' with a kid?"
The said man rolls his eyes at his best friend, and like clockwork replies with what he always says.
"John this world is messed up, if anything me and Lydia are making the world a better and safer place for Juliet to grow up in. A world without any monsters that can hurt her."
John sighs, once more.
"What use will you be to your daughter dead?"
Joseph scoffs as he dismisses John's words with a wave of his hand, "Have more faith in us, Johnny boy. We've survived so far and we know what we're doing, trust us. Please."
John tilts his head from side to side as he mulls Joe's words over in his mind before reluctantly nodding his head. "Yeah, alright. We'll watch her until you guys get back." Joe smiles at John as he claps him on the back, "Thanks, man. We owe you one."
Lydia smiles as she hands John the bag that has Juliet's things inside, before walking over to Mary, who still holds Juliet, and drops a kiss on her daughter's head. "We'll be back soon, sweetheart. Promise. I love you."
Joe smiles as he, too, places a kiss on his daughter's head. Brushing her dark locks out of her face. "We'll see you soon, kiddo. Love you."
With that, the Sullivan's leave the house with one last longing look at their daughter. Swearing that they'll wrap the werewolf hunt up as quickly as they can. John see's them out and shuts the door behind them, not knowing that that's the last time he'll see his best friend's alive.
Present
Juliet is brought out of her thoughts by Dean, who places a comforting hand on the small of her back. Having seen the far away look in her chocolate brown eyes, he looks at her with concern. "You okay, baby?"
Juliet shakes her head, dimissing the memory that she wasn't even aware she had. She plasters on a fake smile and turns to Dean, nodding her head. "What? Oh, I'm fine. Sorry, my head was somewhere else," she turns to look at the Winchester family house, "So, what's the plan?"
Harlow watches as her father and her uncle share a look between them, a look that goes unnoticed by her mother. It's a look that screams concern, but for what? The five year old doesn't know, but she can tell that something is wrong with her Mom. She lets go of her father's hand and walks up to Juliet, who furrows her eyebrows at her daughter but before she can ask what's wrong, Harlow wraps her arms around her mother's waist, giving her a hug with a big squeeze. She rests her chin on Juliet's stomach and smiles up at her, "I love you, Mommy."
Juliet strokes Harlow's hair as she shares a confused look with Sam and Dean, wondering what caused her daughter to give her a hug out of the blue. The two Winchester brother's both shrug in reply, but both wear soft smiles on their faces at the sight of the mother and daughter. Juliet gives her daughter a squeeze, "I love you too, Harls. Very much."
The five year old smiles before pulling away from the hug to instead grab her mother's hand and holds it tight.
Juliet clears her throat as she glances between the old Winchester home and her boyfriend and best friend. "Like I said, What's the plan?"
Dean sighs, "I don't know this is different to our usual gig and by that I mean, this case โthat's if there is a case hereโ is a personal one." Juliet hums in agreement, "So, what? We go and knock on the door and say we're FBI?"
Dean shakes his head, "Nah, there's no reason for FBI to be in the area...we could say we're from a gas company?"
Juliet gives Dean a look, "Because that worked out so well last time. Do I have to remind you of Larry Pike?"
Dean winces before nodding his head, "Okay, do you have any ideas?"
Juliet smirks and nods her head, "Yeah, actually. I do. I suggest we say we're federal agents but make up a case of our own and if the owner asks questions then we can just say we're not at liberty to discuss anything about it."
Dean smirks at his little brother as he points to Juliet, "See, that is why I can't wait to marry her one day." He snorts, "She's way smarter than you, Sammy." The said Winchester just rolls his eyes, "Right. Can we go now? The longer we stand outside the house the more likely people are to be suspcious of us."
Dean and Juliet nod their heads, agreeing with Sam as they, along with Harlow, follow him up to the front door. They watch as Sam knocks on the door three times and not even a second later, the door opens to reveal a young woman with blond hair and blue eyes standing before them, wearing what looks like dark pink comfy clothes. She eyes the three with a raised eyebrow, confused on who they are and why they are at her house.
Juliet can't help but eye the new owner of the house, blond hair and blue eyes? She can't help but notice small similarities between her and Mary Winchester.
Jenny, the new owner of the house eyes Juliet as the brunette stares at her. The blond woman finds it impossible to not feel uncomfortable under the huntress' gaze. So she looks away to eye all three of them once more. It's then she notices that a child is with them, she looks to be younger than her daughter but just as, if not more, adorable.
"Yes?"
Dean clears his throat as Sam gently nudges Juliet to get her to snap out of her gaze. She turns her gaze onto Sam and glares at him from feeling his bony elbow dig into her side. So, being the mature adult that she is, elbows him back, harder and more harsher before sticking her tongue out at him.
Dean speaks before the new owner of his old childhood home can question the interaction between the best friends.
"Sorry to bother you, Ma'am, but we're with the Federalโ"
Before he can finish, Sam interrupts his brother as he has a random impluse to just be honest with the woman standing in front of them...Well, honest about their names and their ties to the house. He motions to himself "I'm Sam Winchester," he then points to Dean, Juliet and Harlow, "and this is my brother, Dean and his girlfriend, Juliet Sullivan and their daughter, Harlow. We used to live here. You know, we were just drivin' by, and we were wondering if we could come see the old place."
Jenny tilts her head, their last names sounding familiar. "Winchester and Sullivan. Yeah, that's so funny. You know, I think I found some of your photos the other night"
Dean and Juliet share a look of surprise, Juliet more so than Dean. She didn't think there would be pictures of her family, but there has to be right? Otherwise, how would she recognize Juliet's last name? The huntress shakes her head, once again and looks at Jenny, eyeing her with a perplexed look as she tilts her head, "You did?"
Jenny nods her head with a smile as she steps aside, opening the front door wider so the Winchester-Sullivan family could enter. "Come on in."
All four family members walk inside.
โข โข โข
The three hunters plus the little Winchester follow the new owner of their childhood house, which they now know is called Jenny, to the kitchen. A soft smile immediately lights up Juliet's face as she eyes Jenny's two kids, a daughter sits at the table drawing a picture as Jenny's son stands in his playpen, jumping up and down exclaiming, 'Juice! Juice! Juice! Juice!'
Jenny smiles at the little boy as she makes her way to the fridge, "That's Ritchie," She pulls out a sippy cup from the fridge before closing the appliance door, "He's kind of a juice junkie." She hands Ritchie his sippy cup, "But, hey, at least we won't get scurvy." She makes her way to her daughter and stands behind her, placing her hands gently on her shoulders, "Sari, this is Sam, Dean and Juliet. They used to live here." Her eyes move down to Harlow who stands between her mom and dad, "and their daughter Harlow."
The said little Winchester waves shyly at the young girl who looks only a few years older than her, "Hi." Dean and Juliet share a smile as Harlow hides her head in Dean's pant clad leg.
Sam smiles as he takes a step foward, approaching the small girl, "Hey, Sari."
It's times like these that he's thankful to have a niece, it helps him when it comes to cases that involve kids, helps him be able to talk to them not like an adult. A blow hits his heart as he thinks about what could have been with Jessica. They could've had a family of their own, Harlow could've had a cousin to play with but as he's learnt, life isn't fair and nor does it play out in the way you want it to.
Dean places his hand on Harlow's head as he plays with the end of her hair, more for his benefit than for hers. Just being in his childhood home makes the hairs on the back of his neck stand to attention like soilders about to march to war. Juliet's notices how skittish he looks and grabs hisfree hand as he turns to Jenny with a fake smile plastered on his face, "So, you just moved in?"
Jenny nods her head, not noticing the uncomfortable look on his face as she smiles, "Yeah, from Wichita." Juliet looks around the house, a thought strikes her brain. It's quite a big house for just one adult and two kids. She raises an eyebrow as her hand still holds Dean's. "Do you have family here in Kansas or..." She trails off at the sad look that crosses Jenny's face. The huntress winces, regretting asking the question.
"No. I just, uh...needed a fresh start, that's all. So, new town, new jobโ-I mean as soon as I find one. New house. Although the neighbors across the road seem nice and welcoming, they baked us a casserole and welcomed us to the neighborhood."
Juliet swallows the lump in her throat, having an inkling about which house she means but just wanting to be sure, "The house opposite?"
Jenny smiles as she nods her head, "That blue one opposite, with the nice bay windows."
Dean squeezes Juliet's hand, knowing where her mind has wondered to her parents' once more.
Sam wanting to bring the attention away from Dean and Juliet having their moment, smiles a small smile at Jenny as he starts to ask questions, wanting to find answers to why he dreamed about this house and this woman. "So, how you likin' it so far?"
Jenny bites her lip in thought but decides to get what's wrong with the house off her chest, maybe it's because it's just her and her kids, but what's wrong with the house stresses her out sometimes, especially since she's on her own in this.
"Well, uh, all due respect to your childhood homeโ- I mean, I'm sure you had lots of happy memories here," Dean smiles weakly at that, the memory of the fire and his mother being plastered on the ceiling of his brother's nursery comes to mind as Jenny continues, "but this place has it's issues."
Juliet raises an eyebrow, her curiosity piqued.
"What do you mean?"
Jenny sighs, "Well, it's just getting old. Like the wiring, you know? We've got flickering lights almost hourly," Juliet raises an eyebrow at that as she shares a look with Sam and Dean. All three of them sharing a silent conversation before Dean raises an eyebrow and looks back to Jenny, who was oblivious to the looks shared between them. "That's too bad. What else?"
Jenny kisses her teeth, "Um...sink's backed up, there's rats in the basement," She pauses with a wince, realizing that she's complaing to the previous people about their childhood home, "I'm sorry. I don't mean to complain."
Dean, not offended one bit, shakes his head with a small smile. "No. Have you seen the rats or just heard scratching?"
A thoughtful look crosses Jenny's face as she contemplates Dean's words, "It's just the scratching, actually."
Sari looks up at the hunters from where she sits at the table, an apprehensive look on her face before she looks to Jenny. "Mom?" With her daughter now having her full attention, Jenny kneels down to be eye level with her as Sari mumbles the question she's too afraid to ask them. "Ask them if they were here when they lived here."
Jenny raises an eyebrow, "What, Sari?"
Sari eyes the hunters from the corner of her eye before answering, "The things in my closet."
Jenny shakes her head as she places a comforting hand on her daughter's head, "Oh, no, baby, there was nothing in their closets." She looks to the three hunters expectantly, "Right?" Sam is quick to shake his head in reply, "Right. No, no, of course not."
Jenny smiles down at her daughter reassuringly before turning back to the three hunters, "She had a nightmare the other night."
Sari shakes her head at her mother's words, "I wasn't dreaming. They came into my bedroom โ- and one was on fire and the other was see through with no face."
The three hunters share a look of shock at hearing that. Looks like Sam was right, something weird is going on with this house.
โข โข โข
Juliet sends one last smile to Jenny as she, Dean, Sam and Harlow exit the house, shutting the door behind them before making their way back to the car.
Sam turns to Dean and Juliet, a look of shock etched on his face, still reeling from the information that Sari had given them, even if Jenny didn't believe her daughter, they did.
"You hear that? A figure on fire."
Dean nods his head as he raises an eyebrow at his brother, "And that woman..." Dean trails off as he forgets the woman's name. Juliet rolls her eyes, grabbing Harlow's hand as they cross the street. "Jenny, dear. Her name was Jenny."
Dean pulls a face at the nickname but just nods his head and points to Juliet in thanks, "Yeah her. She was the woman in your dreams?" Sam nods his head as they stop at the car, "Yeah. And you hear what she was talking about? Scratching, flickering lights, both signs of a malevolent spirit."
Dean shakes his head, mind still reeling at the possibility that his brother could have the shinning. "Yeah, well, I'm just freaked out that your weirdo visions are comin' true."
Sam groans in frustration at his brother focusing on the least important thing out of the case, "Well, forget that for a minute--" He goes to continue but Harlow's voice interrupts him. He looks down to his niece to see her already looking up at him with a confused smile on her face. "But why? It means you're a disney princess, uncle Sammy." The three adults share a look of confusion before Juliet turns back to her daughter as she opens the car door, so her daughter can get in. "What makes you say that, Harls?"
The said little girl giggles as her mom lifts her up and buckles her up into her booster seat.
"Isn't it obvious? His dreams are coming true. That means he's a disney princess."
Dean and Juliet share a soft look between them, hoping that their daughter could stay innocent forever. Juliet coos and kisses her daughter on the head, "Promise me that you'll never grow up, Harls."
Harlow smiles up at her mom and holds put her pinky finger, "Pinky promise." Juliet smiles as she interlocks her pinky with Harlow's before shutting the door with one last smile. Now, she's out of ear shot, Juliet puts both hands on her hips and faces the two brother's as Sam continues with what he was gonna say before his adorable niece interrupted him. He looks between both Dean and Juliet with an eyebrow raised, "--The thing in the house, do you think it's the thing that killed Mom and Jessica?"
Dean shakes his head, panicked. "I don't know!"
Juliet huffs out a breath at her boyfriend before shaking her head and looking at Sam, "If it is, does that mean it wasn't one thing that killed Mary or Jessica. Sari mentioned another figure, a faceless one. What do you think that is?"
Sam shrugs his shoulders, "I don't know, Jules. I really don't know." He sighs before a question hits him, "Well, I mean, has it come back or has it been there the whole time?" A thought strikes Dean as he raises an eyebrow at his brother and at his girlfriend, "Or maybe it's something else entirely, guys, we don't know yet."
Sam looks back to his old childhood home before looking to his brother and best friend, "Well, those people are in danger, Dean, Juliet. We have to get 'em out of that house."
Dean nods his head, "And we will."
Sam shakes his head with a sigh, "No, I mean now."
Dean raises a dark eyebrow, "And how are you gonna do that, huh? You got a story that she's gonna believe?"
Sam sighs, feeling deflated. "Then what are we supposed to do?"
Juliet bites her bottom lip and places a hand on Sam's shoulder, her heart breaking at the expression on his face. "We'll figure that out, Sam. I promise."
With those being the last words said on the matter, they all get into the car. Juliet giving her childhood home one last longing look before she does.
โข โข โข
Dean sighs as he stands by the gas pump, filling up the car. Juliet and Sam sit on the bonnet of the Impala as Harlow remains in the back, listening to music on the walkman that Dean had given to her, one that hasn't been turned into an EMF metre. He looks to his brother and his girlfriend, their latest case still plaguing his mind, "We just gotta chill out, that's all," Juliet scoffs but Dean gives her a pointed look before finishing, "You know, if this was any other kind of job, what would we do?"
Juliet huffs, "Except this isn't any other kind of Job. We're tied to this one, Dean." The said man rolls his eyes at her antics, "Just...humor me. Please." Juliet sighs but nods her head as Sam thinks his brother's question over in his head from beside Juliet. "We'd try to figure out what we were dealin' with. We'd dig into the history of the house."
Dean nods his head, "Exactly, except this time, we already know the history."
Sam raises an eyebrow before looking between Dean and Juliet, "Yeah, but how much do we know? I mean, how much do you guys actually remember?"
Dean arches a brow, "About that night, you mean?"
Sam nods his head, "Yeah."
Juliet shrugs her shoulders at Sam's question, "I remember feeling the heat and someone carrying me out of the house but that's it." Dean raises an eyebrow at her answer, "Really? You can remember that?" The brunette gives him a look, "I was one years old, Dean. Not a newborn." The older hunter holds his hands up in surrender, like he's sorry for even asking her such a question.
Sam looks to Dean, eyeing his brother, knowing that out of the three of them the one to have more memories of that dreaded night would be him. "What about you, Dean?" The said hunter shrugs, "Not much. Like Jules said, I remember the fire...the heat." Juliet purses her lips as he pauses in his words, as if he's contemplating telling them what else he remembers. After a few seconds of mulling it about in his head, he comes to the conclusion to say whatever it is he's holding back. "And then I carried you both out the front door."
Sam looks at his brother in surprise at the new piece of information he has just gained, "You did?" Dean lifts his head in a nod, "Yeah, what, you never knew that?" Sam, still with a look of shock on his face, shakes his head, "No."
Juliet scoffs, "What you didn't actually think John carried you out, did you?" Dean rolls his eyes at the tone in her voice. It seems lately Juliet hasn't had anything good to say about John recently, whenever he's brought up into any conversation she either rolls her eyes and tunes out of it or scoffs and walks away.
"Juliet..."
The huntress rolls her eyes at Dean's tone, "What? I'm just saying, he doesn't exactly deserve father of the year award for what he's putting both you and Sam through at this current moment." The older Winchester brother sighs, "It doesn't matter. We can talk about that later," He turns to Sam, ignoring another scoff from Juliet, "And, well, you know dad's story as well as I do. Mom was...was on the ceiling. And whatever put her there was long gone by the time dad found her."
Sam tilts his head like a little curious puppy, "And he never had a theory about what did it?"
Juliet let's out a sarcastic bark of laughter, "Ha! Even if he did, do you think he would have shared it with us? I mean, you asked him enough times." Dean glares at Juliet, a certain annoyance sparking in him. "Alright, enough. What's got your panties in a twist? If anything about Dad is mentioned you immediately get on the defensive and not to mention the look you have on your face whenever his name is brought up." Juliet furrows her eyebrows as she purses her lips in distaste, "What look?"
As if proving his point, Dean points at her face. "That look, like someone's done something foul and put it in your mornin' coffee."
Juliet groans, "I just don't like the fact that he's leaving us all of these clues and coordinates and you just follow him like a soldier following his general to war. It's not fair on either you or Sam, Dean. The least he could do is give you one lousy call to let you both know he's okay." Dean's eyes soften, "Jules, we've talked about this. Dad could be seriously hurt or worse. We can't just leave him." The Sullivan descendant just glares as she crosses her arms with a pout on her full lips, mimicking the exact look their daughter pulls when she can't get her own way. "But it's okay for him to up and go, leaving nothing but a lousy letter in his absence?"
Dean glares at Juliet but before he can retort with an answer, Sam stops him. He knows them both well enough to know when an argument is starting to brew between the two of them. That, and you could cut the tension with a butter knife, it's that thick.
"Okay. So, if we're gonna figure out what's goin' on now...we have to figure out what happened back then. And see if it's the same thing."
Dean nods his head, "Yeah. We'll talk to dad's friends, neighbors, people who were that at the time."
Juliet sighs as she stands up from the bonnet of the car, jumping down. Deciding that she might as well help, not for John's sake but for Jenny and her children. "I'll look through John's journal. See if any names of old buddies are mentioned, that might be able to help us." She quickly fishes it out of the backseat of the car, sending a small but sweet smile to Harlow as she opens and closes the car door, returning back to her space on the bonnet of the car and opening up the journal, flicking through the pages.
As she does, Sam looks up at his brother, his next words stilling Juliet's movements.
"Does this feel like another Job to you both?"
Juliet bites her lip, remaining quiet on the subject. Instead, she watches Dean as he pauses before motioning to the bathroom at the back of the Gas 'n sip. "I'll be right back. I gotta use the bathroom." Juliet and Sam watch as he walks away, the former of the two raising an eyebrow at his retreating figure, knowing full well that her boyfriend hates using the bathroom at gas stations, not unless he really needs to. She narrows her eyes as Dean passes a corner and goes out of sight. She sighs before handing the journal to Sam and getting up before walking in the direction that Dean had gone in.
She rounds the corner where Dean had gone and pauses as she sees Dean's back turned, his mobile held up to his ear. She narrows her eyes, once more at hearing the familiar voice mail on the other end of the line.
"This is John Winchester. If this is an emergency call my son, Dean at 866-907-3235. And if you can't reach him, call my god-daughter, Juliet. 785-401-9138."
She rolls her eyes as a thought strikes her, since the shifter case, Dean had to have his number changed, so the police aren't able to track his cell. How was John able to get hold of his new number? The beep sounding brings her mind back to the present, she more or less expects Dean to hang up and sigh before leaving it at that, but to her surprise, his voice is heard as he leaves his dad a voice message.
"Dad? I know I've left you messages before. I don't even know if you'll get 'em," Juliet's heart breaks in two as she hears his voice crack before he clears his throat, "But I'm with Juliet and Sam. And we're in Lawrence. And there's somethin' in our old house. I don't know if it's the thing that killed mom or not, but..." his voice breaks again and Juliet holds back all of her will power to run over and hug him tight. Instead, she just listens, having an inkling that Dean already know she's there.
"...I don't know what to do," Juliet feels tears start to brim in her eyes at hearing the heart-wrenching sob Dean lets out, the poor hunter feels like he can barely keep it together but he remains strong in his next words, "So, whatever you're doin', if you could get here. Please. I need your help, dad."
Juliet watches as he hangs up the phone before turning around, not surprised to find Juliet standing there. Her heart breaks at seeing the tears cascading down his face, one after the other. This time, she does step foward and wraps her arms around him, holding him to her and she plays with the hairs at the nape of his neck, their argument forgotten about. She may not agree with what John is doing, and she may not like that Dean's there to answer his every beck and call but when he needs John, he isn't there but that will not stop Juliet from being there for her boyfriend, especially when he needs someone.
Dean burries his head into the crook of her neck, hugging her back just as tightly. Juliet bites her lip and has to look up to the sky to stop her own tears from falling as she feels her boyfriend's tears wet the collar of her shirt.
When they do find John, and she'll make sure they will, she silently promises both Dean and Sam that she'll beat the crap out of him and if he dies while doing so, she'll bring him back to life just to do it all over again, because no one, and she means no one, deserves to go through what both Sam and Dean are going through.
Nothing is said between them, not one word. They just hold each other, she knows that Dean wouldn't appreciate her saying anything at the moment, words are not what he needs. He just needs her and her presense, that alone is enough for him.

Authors Note
Hello there!
I know it's been months since I last updated and I can only apologize for that, a lot has been happening in my life recently. I've moved into a new place, how exciting is that?! I'm still sorting out some bits, but it's actually quite peaceful living on my own, I always thought I would hate it and that it would be too quiet, but it's actually nice!
I will try my best to be less sporadic with my updates for this book, BUT I can't make any promises.
Anyway, that's a wrap for the first part of the episode 'Home'. This one is definetly ONE of the episodes from season one that I've been most excited to write and you'll see why as the episode progresses.
So...it seems like Mary isn't the only one 'haunting' the old Winchester home. I wonder who could the the faceless 'ghost' Sari mentioned? I guess you'll have to wait and see, although I would love to hear your theories on who you think it might be!
Also, I'm sorry if the flashback wasn't that good, in fact I was contemplating with the whole idea on even adding a flashback of Juliet's parents into the story but decided that it does help you have a sense on what they were like as people. I know some of you might think that Juliet's parents weren't good parents and put hunting before their daughter, and to that I say that you're right, but I just love the angst and the mommy and daddy issues, what can I say?
And yes, I know John didn't start hunting until after Mary had died but I wanted to change that in this story and in order for me to have it so Joe and Lydia were best friends to John and Mary as well as hunters, I had to change it otherwise it wouldn't have worked with the plot.
Also, in case any of you were wondering. Joseph is played by Johnny Depp and Lydia is played by Mรคdchen Amick! I hope that helps you be able to Visualize them more.
I can say this, John and Mary were right to have their suspicions on there being a werewolf in Kansas. I can't say much without giving it away, but not everything is what it seems when it comes to their deaths and you'll see what I mean in season two, more specifically in the last two episodes.
The scene where Dean leaves John that voicemail breaks my heart and I thought iy was so sad that he was crying and alone with no one to turn to for comfort, so obviously I had to change that and add Juliet into that scene because it's just another excuse to add a cute moment between the two of them after the little spat they had before hand. Yes, Dean is getting closer and closer to finding out that Juliet has been keeping John's whereabouts from him and Sam, which will eventually lead to a massive arguement somewhere along the line, well, I know when it'll be but you guys don't ;)
Also isn't Harlow just the cutest! She's so innocent I love it.
Anyway, enough of me talking.
I hope you enjoyed the chapter. It hasn't been edited, so I'm sorry if there are any spelling mistakes.
Please don't forget to vote and comment and I'll see you in the next chapter.
Until then...โค๏ธ
