Pudding
Harleen Quinzel scooped a spoonful of vanilla pudding into her mouth, her lips curved into a smile as she swallowed. She couldn't imagine a world without pudding in it. It was her favorite dessert in the whole wide world.
As she swallowed another spoon, she was suddenly hit by an idea. The cafeteria at Arkham always served such bland, colorless food that seemed to leave a sour taste on your tongue. Harleen had tried eating some of the food there once, and was disgusted to know that her patients were subjected to eating that nonsense multiple times a day.
Maybe to make their day brighter, she could see if pudding could be added to the menu. Hopefully that would bring a smile on some of their faces.
She finished her cup of pudding and tossed it into the trash, packing up her lunch box and exiting the break room where she had been eating her lunch.
Harleen approached one of the staff members at Arkham, her job being to oversee the lunches at the Asylum. She was currently working on cleaning up the kitchen from the patients who had just eaten their lunch.
"Hi, Patty," Harleen smiled warmly. The woman was slightly plump, with rosy cheeks and cat eye glasses resting on the bridge of her nose. Her blonde hair was dyed a shade too light for her skin, and always pulled into a loose low ponytail.
"Oh, hello there Dr. Quinzel. How may I help you?"
"I have a quick question. Some of my patients have been complaining about the food and the little amount of options. I would be willing to offer a portion of my paycheck to afford some dessert for the patients."
"That's very kind of you, dear. What kind of dessert were you thinking?"
"I was thinking... Pudding?"
"Pudding? That sounds delightful. I'll see what I can do, Dr. Quinzel."
"Thank you very much," Harleen smiled.
Patty wrote something down on a notepad on the counter, "Of course, honey."
***
It had been about a week and a half, and pudding had officially been added to the menu. It was instantly a hit. The patients loved it.
Harleen Quinzel stood outside of the cafeteria, watching the Joker take another bite of his chocolate pudding.
He grinned widely and then looked up. Their eyes locked. Joker took another bite and then gave her a thumbs up. Harleen smiled, her cheeks tinged in baby pink.
"I knew you'd like it," she said softly, "Puddin'."
