Chapter Seventy Three
Special dedication to ProtonCoccusΒ for helping me with this chapter,
Elaena was in her tent surrounded by her trustworthy advisors and family, the ice dragon was staring over a large map she made out of ice which was of the free cities trying to figure out where to settle down with the people she freed.
" We should sail to Kamukara, Empress Kyoko would be more than willing to take us in " Samara spoke up.
" She has already done so much for me, " Elaena said. " I can't ask her for more, it wouldn't be right. "
" May, I say something " Arya spoke up, glancing at her sister well cousin now.
" Of course, little she-wolf, " Elaena smiled. " Speak away."
" I honestly think we should sail back to Westeros, " Arya said. " Robb needs all the help can get and now we have an army and fleet which he needs right now.
" It's too great of a risk, princess, " Cadal warned.
" I am not a princess "Arya grumbled.
" My apologies, " Cadal mumbled.
" I don't think it's wise to get involved in a war right now, " Andros said. " We have children to consider and the safety of the people.
" We would not win, " Hayate spoke up. " Since House Tyrell has joined with House Lannister, their numbers are triples times stronger than ours and have supplies to give their men.
" We should wait until we gain more men " Samara said.
" So, you mean for us to abandon my brother and mother who needs our help " Arya scoffed.
" Look, I want to help them as much as you do Arya " Elaena said. " But, I can't risk putting the lives of my people, my children, and my army in danger.
."Arya, I understand your situation, we all want our family safe but... last I heard, Robb broke his vows to the Freys and now he's losing support." added Samara.
" He made a mistake, " Arya defended. " Robb is an honorable man, just like Father!"
" Honor is what will get him killed " Elaena hissed. " Just like it did grandfather before him., my other father Brandon and then father. Wolves never fare well in the South."
" I want to go home, " Arya said. " I don't want to stay here in Essos for the rest of my life hiding in exile like you attempt to do. I miss Sansa, Robb, Rickon, Bran and Mother and I want our pack back together like we were ."
" I wish that as well " Elaena signed. " But, things will never go back to the way they were. " We are not those same people anymore, we've all changed.
" I know " Arya said. " But, we can't let the Lannister tear us apart anymore. " We have to fight for our home, we can't live in fear all the time. " I mean don't you miss Winterfell, why would you want to stay here in this exile land forever. ?"
"Well, about that..." Hayate mumbled. He had not told Elaena about Theon's betrayal and the torture that occured at the castle
" I do miss Winterfell, '' Elaena repiled. " But, it's not my home anymore, I don't have a place there anymore. " The Northerners would never accept me back and Robb has disinherited me and even told me it would be better if I stay in Essos. " He clearly doesn't want me back, nor does mother.
" Don't you see, Arya, " Elaena chuckled. " Me and my children will never be welcome in the north . " I am a Lannister in their eyes now and they see me as a traitor nothing more. " I have faced nothing but heartbreak, danger in Westeros and Essos too. " But, I honestly grew to love it here and envision a peaceful life for myself, my children, my people. " You don't have to stay here if you don't want to, I would never force you to, but I ask that you wait until the war is over to return to Westeros.
" You're a Stark, " Arya said. " You're one of us, Robb would never turn his back on you, let alone mother."
" He already has, " Elaena responded. " Mother as well, you think she'll still love me when she finds out that I'm not her daughter but the daughter of the man she loves and of the women she loathed " Or when she learns that I gave birth to Jaime's children."
Arya was filled with internal chaos. Could people really be that petty? Is Robb not as honorable as she believed him to be? What was with all these people telling her that her beloved siblings had a darker side?
" You shouldn't doubt them " Arya rambled out. " Robb would do such a thing like that, maybe mother would but not him."
"War changes people, little wolf. Sometimes for the better, sometimes for the worse. I have experienced it for myself, trust me on that." remarked Hayate, who had started twirling his hair around his finger.
" It makes no sense, '' Arya repiled. " Why would Robb disinherit you, you're a Stark, a wolf."
"Because men dislike powerful women. Look what happened to Rhaenyra Targaryen. Despite the king naming her heir, the common folk still expected her half-brother Aegon to be king.".
"That's ancient history, Sister."
"Indeed, but traditions impact our lives today. "
" Your sister is the rightful heir to the north, not your brother, " Cadal said. " He is a usurper , just like Robert Baratheon before him."
" How dare you " Arya hissed. . " My brother is no usurper, Elaena, you don't even want the north, you said you want nothing to do with Westeros anymore.
" I did, " Elaena said, shooting a glare at Cadal. " Cadal, I respect your consul, but you're wrong about Robb, he is no usurper. " He is only trying to protect the north, if something were to happen to him then I would be heir to the north and the Lannister would take advantage of that. "
" If your brother Robb was to ever find out about Elaena's true identity " Hayate warned. " A civil war would erupt and possibly another dance of dragons could happen but this time an ice dragon wolf and young wolf are battling each other.
" You're crazy! " Arya exclaimed. " We are not like the Targaryens. " Elaena and Robb would never fight each other, especially over something so foolish."
" Why do you think that, Hayate? " Elaena asked. " Do you really think of me to be like my ancestor Rhaenyra Targaryen to fight my own blood over a throne?
" Would you" " Arya asked, glancing at her cousin curiously wondering about that. " Are you really serious about giving up your claim to the north and giving it to Robb or are you going to take the North back for yourself when the dragons are grown?
" I am not some tyrant, little she-wolf, " Elaena scoffed. " I have no desire to ever return to Westeros, like I said my life is in Essos now, there's nothing for me in the north anymore, it's not my home anymore.
" Yet, you refuse to help Robb when he needs it badly " Arya snorted. " He's our family and you're abandoning him just like you abandoned Sansa, sailing her off to Norvos as a chess piece and then Rickon to Kamkarma. "
" That was Sansa's choice, " Elaena answered. " I begged her not to go but she wanted to go so badly and wanted me to stop treating her like a child. " And, Fuyutsuki is the one who took Rickon away to Kamkarma for his own safety and he happens to love it there. " Empress Kyoko has been taking care of him as her own child, so as much as I miss him I'm not going to put him in harm's way. At this point, it is for the best if he hides, at least until he is a fully-fledged knight."
" Kamkarma is the best place for your brother to be at the moment " Hayate agreed. " And, for you as well."
" What?" Arya asked.
" I think it would be best if you went to Kamkarma and stayed with Empress Kyoko and Fuyutsuki for a while until things die down in Westeros, little she-wolf, " Samara said.
" I'm not going, " Arya hissed. " I'm not going to stay in a castle all day drinking tea, wearing dresses and doing lady things. " My family needs me right now and I'm not going to sit around doing nothing unlike some people.
" You're going, " Elaena said sternly. " I can't afford to put you in harm's way anymore, I think it would be good for you. " I've written to Empress Kyoko and she's agreed to take you in along with the children here.
" As much as I don't want to be separated from Henley and Elisaria, I have to keep them safe " Nalerella spoke up.
Elaena glanced at her friend, noticing her sad expression on her face, " If you wish to go with them, you should."
" Thank you , " Nalerella smiled. " I'll think about it."
" So, now you're sending me off just like Sansa? " Arya exclaimed.
" I'm sending you to a safe place " Elaena defended. " As for Sansa, I will get her back here to us soon. "
" This is the best thing for you, little she-wolf, " Andros repiled. " War isn't pretty and a young girl shouldn't see things like that. "
"It's not fair, why isn't Naerella going?" the young Stark complained.
"You're a child." Hayate replied sternly
"I'm notβ"
"Yes you are, Arya. I hate to burst your bubble, but the world is not a static place. Robb may have been as honorable as you thought but that was when things were peaceful. It is hard to keep your virtue when lions and flayed men come prowling in your turf. He broke his promise and that is costing him
"What if he loved that girl? Mother said that the Freys are ugly."
"Love? Oh, little pup. I'm afraid that it is a fatal emotion during war time. For all your virtues, you do not have a single talent for politics."
"How about you, you're a century old warrior!"
"Indeed, but I tried to learn my share of lordly matters. You have taken your own lessons for granted, and this is the result."
"Snasa never learned to fight. Look what happened to her. I want to protect my niece and nephews, you know?"
"You still have to go east, little one. Last I heard, Rickon has been improving his swordsmanship."
"Really?"
"If you learn a bit of diplomacy, you will be allowed to train. The court of Kamakura is particularly strict with its rules."
Arya despised rules. She wanted to be free, but at what cost?
"Being a lady does not mean that you are weak, little she-wolf. It simply means you have a little extra armor on you. After all, who would expect such a sweet soul to hide daggers up her sleeves? That is what made Cersei so dangerous. Believe it or not, Empress Kyoko captured Gregpr Clegane using her womanly wiles." Elaena explained.
"So, if you want to protect your family, train at Kamakura. It is safe there, and you get to be with Rickon again." Cadal added.
The promise of seeing her little brother was enough to make her relent. Sighing in defeat, Arya nodded her head.
"Okay, but only until I become a strong warrior. Then, I and Rickon will come back."
" This is not forever, " Elaena said. " I need our pack safe, please believe that this isn't a punishment.
" I know, " Arya mumbled.
Elaena pulled her in for a tight hug, tears fell from her eyes. " Please forgive me, little she-wolf. I only wish to keep you safe. " I couldn't live with myself if something bad happened to you.
" I understand, " Arya mumbled. " I don't hate you Elaena I could never hate you. "
In a matter of minutes, Arya's things were already packed. Hayate shapeshifted into his giant crow form, and gestured for the young Stark girl to come aboard.
"Goodbye for now, sister ."
"Yeah... for now." Elaena sniffed, wiping her tears away from eyes.
As the crow took flight, she watched New Ghis disappear into nothingness, and her hand touched the clouds for the first time. Silverwing, who was sitting on her shoulder, looked at the atmosphere in awe, wishing that she could fly like the giant crow.
"Don't worry, you'll grow up soon... just like me." Arya whispered, and rested her head against Hayate's feathers.
By the Old Gods, she was exhausted.
Riverunn
" Robb, you must make amends with Walder Frey " Catelyn exclaimed. " You've broken your oath and need to give him sos
" What am I to do, mother? " Robb asked, throwing his hands up in frustration. " I can't offer him anything else expect for marriages. " I can engage Arya off to one of his grandchildren and Sansa to his son. , I could offer one of Lyarra's children to them, Walder Frey would not doubt kill to have a beautiful princess in their grasp.
"You're sick, they're just babies Robb!" Catylen protested."And no daughters of mine are marrying those stinking Frey!"
Brynden shook his head. None of this would have happened if Robb learned to keep his urges in his trousers.
" If I may say something, your grace " Edmure spoke up. " I don't think it would be wise to sell one of your nephews to the Freys, you don't have any right to do so.
" They are subjects of the north, " Robb defended. " My sister Lyarra will understand, she wants to protect the north just as I do.
" They're not your children, Robb " Catelyn exclaimed. " You can't just go around selling people's children off like pawns. "
"Edmure could marry one of the Freys instead. Perhaps he will finally contribute in the war effort" Brynden suggested, eying his nephew.
" What, " Edmure said. " I will not wed! "
" For all your flaws as a general, you are a great leader in peace time. I respect that. Hopefully, this marriage will bring some much-needed prosperity to the Riverlands." Brynden explained.
" This is for the best, brother, " Catelyn said. " Remember our family words, family comes first.
" You're so full of it, sister, " Edmure scoffed at her words. " Robb here gets to break his oath and now I have to pay for his mistakes all because he wanted to marry that girl.
" Her name is Jeyne and she is your queen " Robb sternly. " You will not disrespect her.
"He's only a boy, he makes mistakes." Catelyn defended.
"Of course you would say that. He's your golden son after all, but this is warfare. A king who breaks his oath can't be trusted to keep more promises." Edmure clarified, sending a glare to Catelyn that could rival Tywin Lannister's.
" I will treat with Walder Frey, " Robb said. " I will offer Arya a hand in marriage along with Lyarra's infant daughter.
" What of the kingslayer's sons, your grace " Roose asked, staring at the young wolf. " I don't think it would be wise if you were to keep them alive. " They are threats to your rule and seeing as you have no children of your own .
" I will have heirs very soon, " Robb answered.
" I don't doubt that, your grace, " Roose replied. " But, if something were to happen to you then your sister Lady Lyarra would be the heir of the north. " No northern wants a Lannister to rule the north. "
" I have disinherited my sister " Robb said.
" And Tywin Lannister will have her reinstated back " Roose answered.
"Lord Bolton is right, for once." Brynden remarked.
" I say we slay those golden brats " Lord Karstark hissed. " Bring their heads back to their father
"They're not even in Westeros, you vengeful old grump!" Robb protested, banging his hands on the table.
" They are Lannisters, " Lord Karrstark yelled. " They are a threat to your rule, your grace . " We can't afford for a Lannister to get his or her hands on the north. " The king slayer killed my son and I shall kill one of his, a son of a son.
" Careful, Lord Karstark, " Robb warned. " That is my nephews and niece you are talking about.
Catelyn's eyes began to fill up with fear and concern, the Tully mother still hasn't told anyone about the truth of Lyarra's true identity.
Suddenly, the door opened and in came a Stark bannerman, the young man made his way towards the young wolf and bowed . " Your grace, a letter has arrived for you from the capital. "
Rob grabbed the letter out of the man's hands, " From whom, "
" Lord Tywin Lannister, " The young man replied.
Robb tore the seal off the letter and began to read
To Robb Stark, the Usurper
It has come to my attention that your beloved sister is not whom you think she is. Lady Lyarra is a Stark yes, but she is not of the late Ned Star's seed. She is the only daughter of your uncle, Brandon Stark with Shaena Targaryen, making her the rightful heir to the Northern throne. Because she is married to my son, Jaime and their children also have a higher claim to the North, more than you, Sansa, Arya and your other siblings. I believe that Lady Catelyn knows the truth, but has kept it from you to preserve her own power. An ambitious woman indeed, not unlike Cersei, if you ask me.
Respectfully Yours Tywin Lannister, , Lord Paramount of the Westerlands, Lord of Casterly Rock and Hand of the King.
Robb dropped the letter out of his hands, an angry look formed on his face and glanced at his mother. " How could you keep this from me?"
" Robb, what are you talking about? " Catelyn asked. " What did that demon old lion write to you? " You can't believe anything he says."
'Oh, how come? Because mothers know best? You failed Sansa by not showing her the harsh realities of being a Southerner, and look what it got her, heartbreak and misery! "
" What did Lord Tywin say? " Brynden asked. " Another threat I guess. "
"Surprisingly, no. Here, have a look Uncle." Robb replied, handing the letter to Brynded.
Catelyn wanted to rip that paper off her brother's hands, saying that it doesn't matter. Tell her son that it was just Lannister propaganda, but what could she do? In this instance, that old lion was telling the truth!
" What!? " Brynden exclaimed in shock " I don't understand. I thought Princess Shaena died giving birth to a stillborn daughter."
" Another lie, out of concern for her child. Ned must have done it to protect the last piece of his brother that he could hold. Not so honorable, but what is honor compared to the love for family?" Edmure pondered, looking over the place where Hoster's funerary boat had burned.
" This has to be a mistake, " Robb said.
" It is no mistake, your grace " Lord Reed spoke up from the table staring at the young wolf.
" And how do you know this is true? " Robb asked.
" I was there that day with your father, '' Lord Reed replied. "After we left the tower of joy, he traveled to Dragonstone where Princess Shaena was staying with her late mother Queen Rhaella and brother Prince Viserys. " The two were in heavy labor. " The Queen died giving birth to her daughter Daenerys but Shaena survived for a few days.
" Shaena begged your father to protect her daughter, kept her safe from Robert. " Your father honored her wishes and took her home, raising her as his own. " Lyarra isn't your sister's real name, it's Elaena Stark Targaryen. "
Robb stood frozen unsure what to say or do, everything he had ever known was a lie.
" I'm so sorry, your grace for keeping this from you " Lord Reed said. " But, I swore a vow to your father and even Princess Shaena to keep Princess Elaena safe."
" I see that dragon whore seduced you too, Lord Reed " Catelyn hissed.
" She was no whore, Lady Catelyn " Lord Reed hissed. " She was nothing but a gentle, kind soul and would've made a damn good queen. " She was the best Lady Of Winterfell there ever was and you're just envious because Lord Brandon loves her not you."
" How dare you! " Catelyn snarled.
" I only speak the truth, Lady Stark " Lord Reed defended.
" It's true,Cat, " Brynden said. " I tried to tell your father the same but he didn't listen. " Brandon was never intending on marrying you, he already had his heart set on the princess."
" The Mad King is the one who forced Brandon into a marriage with her " Catelyn defended. " He had no choice and in the end it killed him."
" Even if the King hadn't ordered the marriage " Edmure said. " Brandon would've still married her, he was known to be a determined person and once he was set on doing something he would do it. "
" You're wrong, " Catelyn said. " Brandon loved me, I know he did. " When we were engaged, he brought me flowers and wrote me little notes ."
" He was just doing his duty " Brynden defended. " As all Starks are honorable and dutiful. "
" You don't know anything, Uncle, " Catelyn repiled.
" Enough, " Robb yelled, glaring at his mother. " Are you completely so blindsided that you can't even see what is in front of you? Uncle Brandon never loved you, he loved Aunt Shaena and always will. Jon and I found old love letters of theirs in Father's office locked away in a vault. "
" It's time to face the facts, sister , " Edmure said. . " Brandon never loved you, he only had eyes for the dragon princess."
Catelyn glared at her brother refusing to believe what he was telling her, even that old demon spirit. The Tully mother couldn't believe that Brandon never loved her and chose another woman over her just like Ned did. He had laid with another woman and brought a bastard in her home, making her believe Lyarra was her daughter instead she was the daughter of that blasted dragon whore and the man she loved.
Yet, she couldn't help but still love the girl as her own and care for her deeply. Lyarra would always be her daughter, maybe not her biological daughter but she would always be hers. She fed her at her own beast, raised her into the young woman she was today.
" This changes nothing " Lord Karstark spoke up, glancing at the young wolf. " You are still our king and we will follow you until the end of our days. We would never support a Targaryen , Stark or Lannister whatever name your cousin goes by now."
" I have to disagree with you, Lord Karstark, " Roose said. " The north loves the young dragon wolf princess, and still holds Princess Shaena and Brandon Stark in their hearts closely. '' Do you think they are going to sit back and watch as you finish off the daughter of their late favorite warden of the north and precious dragon princess. ?"
" There will be uprisings, war, house against house " Roose added. " South vs North.
" She is a girl, " Brynden defended. " She can't inherit anything."
" This means nothing, Robb, " Catelyn said, staring at her son. " She is still your sister no matter what and you can't let that demon lion pit you two against one another. " He is using this to his advantage and trying to lead us into a trap. The First Men and the Rhoynar share one tradition; the offspring of a family's senior member, if he has any, has the higher claim to their estate. That means..." she paused before composing herself. "Lyarra is the rightful ruler of the North."
"And what about the men who crowned me king? You're just confirming that I am a usurper!" Robb exclaimed.
"That's a lie Tywin is using to discredit you. Because Lyarra and her children are absent, for understandable reasons, you are the heir. Consider yourself a sort of regent, while your sister is fleeing for her life." Edmure clarified.
"
" And what if Lyarra or Elaena should I say pushes her claim in the north? " Robb asked. "
" :She would never, despite being capable. Lord Karsark replied. "She's far too humble for that."
" Yes, " Lord Reed agreed. " Elaena is not like that at all.
" Your grace, you are worrying over nothing " Lord Karstark exclaimed. " She doesn't have support, or men she's in exile living as a refuge hiding from the Lannister's. " I doubt she is in the mood for a war."
"Speaking of war, the broken vow with the Freys needs attention." Brynden hissed, now recalling the purpose of the council.
Edmure sighed in defeat, realizing that he had no choice in the matter. He could complain all he wanted, but it would not change anything.
"All right, I'll marry one of the Freys. From an economic standpoint, their bridge fees could be used for projects, among other things."
And there went his strategy. Grabbing a spare piece of parchment, he drafted a quick plan in case the war ended sooner. He had hoped to make his home prosper, and the finances of the Freys could be a big help. House Tully was not poor, but an extra hand would do some wonders.
Hopefully, this was not a trap by Walder Frey.
3 weeks later
Elaena rode up front with her men traveling across the land of Astapor, she had passed the town and saw it was destroyed nothing but ashes remained behind. The young ice dragon was currently traveling to Yunkai more like passing by it.
The young ice dragon was sad not to have her little wild sister beside her but knew Kamakara was the safest place she could be and Rickon was there with her.
The only thing she was worried the most was about Sansa, it hadn't been weeks without any word on Sansa's well-being, Haycate had told her Sansa was safe and settle in well to try city.
Eddarion, Jamerion, Meraxes, Catshaena and Fialova flew in the skies above her exploring the new land, Elaena smiled up at the sight and continued to ride on until she heard Jolothan inform them to stop for a moment.
" What's wrong? Elaena asked glancing over to Jolothan who was beside her.
Two Ghiscari soldiers suddenly rode towards them and came to a stop in front of them. " Your grace, there is an army up ahead of us, we asked for safe passage but they wouldn't allow it.
" How many men? " Elaena questioned.
" Hard to say, your grace, "
Samara glanced over at her best friend in concern, feeling unsteady about this. " I think we should turn back "
" It would be a waste of time, " Elaena said.
" Ask them if we could speak to their leader and tell them we mean them no harm " Elaena replied, glancing at her men.
" Yes, your grace " they said in unison and bowed before riding off.
__________
It was nearly nightfall, Elaena had set up camp and was sitting down in front of the bonfire talking with the children and the people getting to know them more.
Samara was playing with Hensley and Ellaira showing them some magic tricks of hers while Andros and Cadal was standing guard trying to see if anyone was coming to their camp with news.
" This is ridiculous, " Andros exclaimed, throwing his hands up in frustration . " Why are we just sitting around relaxing and doing nothing when we may be on the verge of being attacked?"
" We should prepare ourselves for attack, " Cadal said agreeing with his friend.
" Not every battle can be won with a sword, sometimes words can do " Samara spoke up.
" The masters of Yunkai are not ones for conflicts, " Dansielle said. " They are cruel people but reasonable and won't attack unless we give them a reason to. " They only care for their slaves and money.
" Slaves " Elaena exclaimed. " Yunkai is a slave city too ."
" Yes, " Daniselle responded . " There is another slave city up ahead, Meereen, that's where most of the slave masters live.
Elaena began to get lost in her thoughts wondering what to do. Should she just pass by and mind her business, but that would be wrong leaving the people behind that were in trouble, it would be selfish.
" How many slaves are in Yunkai? " Elaena asked, glancing at Daniselle.
" I don't know, your grace, " Daniselle answered. " A lot, most of them children.
" You're going to free them right? " Hensley and Ellaira spoke up staring at the young ice dragon.
" Hensley, Ellaria" Naelessa scolded, giving them a look.
The two siblings gulped and stared down at the ground feeling guilty for making their sister upset and speaking out of turn.
" Your grace, this doesn't bring you any close to Westeros or the North " Andros commented.
"" I can't just leave innocent defenseless children and people behind to those cruel masters. " Elaena answered. " I'm a mother and mothers defends their children to their last breath. " I can't just walk away. "
" I understand your reasoning, Elaena, " Samara said. " But, we may not have the men to defeat these wise masters."
"What shall we do? All these politics can take ages to succeed. We are foreigners in this land. I doubt that the tactics you used at New Ghis would work. Tales spread fast." Naerella warned.
Elaena placed a palm on her forehead. This was getting more difficult each day, on top of caring for her dragons, her children and managing a vast army. She let out a yawn, it was starting to catch up to her.
.
"We could send diplomats instead to speak to their leader." Andros suggested.
His voice was softer than she remembered, as if it was retreating to somewhere far, far away. There was a ringing in her ears that she could not recall where it came from, andβ
"ELAENA!"
The young dragon was on the ground, her light braid slightly undone. She did not seem to respond to any stimulus, which worried Naerella to no end.
"What happened to Her Grace?" Cadal asked, rushing over to the commotion.
"She's exhausted, Cadal. Now we really need to find a settlement." Samara explained, lifting the young dragoness into her arms. She was a renowned witch of Ashaii, lifting an unconscious person was like cake to her.
Up in the skies, a lone dragon soared. It appeared to be larger than Cathshaena, and it looked rather plain in comparison to the other dragons. Sharp eyes gazed into the unconscious princess's form for a while, until it decided to return to its master.
Daenerys was relieved when she saw Drogon return. That little thing, or not so little one, had been scouting for her for an entire day, not stopping unless there was meat to feast on. The platinum blonde leader of Yunkai patted her dragon-child's snout, giving him a piece of beef to roast.
"I saw her, your niece."
"You mean Elaena? My word, she's close by. How far from the capital is she?"
"Around a kilometer, Mother. Last I heard, her friend said they could send for... diplomats?"
"Worry no more, Drogon. I will send Ser Barristan and Jorah to them."
Babbling from the crib near the fireplace interrupted Daenerys's and Drogon's telepathic exchange. Lifting Rhaella into her arms, the Mother of Dragon was genuinely smiling, one of the rare moments that she ever got to do so.
"Great news, Rhaella and Rhaegon, you'll meet your cousin soon."
The Next Morning
Elaena blinked her eyes open a few seconds she looked around at her surroundings and noticed she was in a tent. The furnishings were rather modest, not unlike the ones she and her newfound allies used. There was a dragon on the makeshift bed, green and bronze and rather curious. She could feel a gentle hand pat her head, and platinum blonde hair strands could be spotted out of the left corners of her eyes.
"I see that you have woken, niece. " spoke a gentle voice.
Elaena looked up and saw Daenerys sitting beside her, her eyes widened in confusion. " Dany, is this another dream?"
" No, " Daenerys smiled, grabbing her hand and squeezing it. " I'm really here."
" I don't understand, " Elaena said, sitting up staring at her. " Where are we?"
" Yunkai '' Daenerys answered . " We're outside the city walls, I'm planning on taking the city soon. "
"Really? I... I could help." Elaena offered.
Deanerys shook her head, her eyebrows raised and a sadness was visible in her purple eyes.
"No, you may not. With your condition, you might be a hindrance."
'But I have powers that could be useful."
"No is no, dearest. Your magic is strongest when your health is in peak condition. I can wait until you are well enough, then we take the city together."
"We?"
"Us dragons need to stick together. And look outside, Drogon seems to like his new friends."
True enough, the growing creature was flying after Cathshaena, Eddrion and Jaimerion, chasing the two in circles. Rhaegal and Viserion stayed with the other two dragons, choosing to stay on the ground.
"Last I heard, you had six of them. Where' s the other one?"
" Dreamfyre, she's with my little sister Arya " Elaena responded. " Also, I'm not ill, just tired. Raising three children and dragons, along with the army, is very hard. " My little cubs tend to keep me up all night long and haven't had a chance to sleep at all.
"I have twins of my own as well, I can understand you. " But, you need nursemaids like I have for my children. " You can't be with them all the time as much as you want to.
" I can't trust anyone with them, " Elaena explained. " The last time I did, they were nearly killed. "
" Oh, my god, " Daenerys exclaimed. " By who?"
" People who want me dead " Elaena repiled. " Anyway, enough about me, how are you doing, how's your children?."
"Rhaego and Rhaella can be a handful at times, especially the former, who cries so loudly that it serves as an alarm for when the sun is about to rise."
Elaena burst out laughing. She had never thought some infant's cry could be that useful. Daenerys tried not to join, but the thought of the countless soldiers being startled awake just before sunrise was giving her quite the joyful feeling. At least they get to ;earn punctuality., or that some of the tardy ones do.
Ser Barristan flapped the tent's entrance open, smiling at the scene.
"You two enjoy yourselves. I can watch the children for you." he offered, taking Rhaego into his arms. The curious baby started to softly feel around his light armor, hoping to find something interesting through touch.
"Curious lad/" Elaena remarked.
"Always was, always will/" Daenerys replied.
Rhaella was far more well-behaved, choosing to stay quiet in her crib. The baby had fallen asleep moments agon, the sound of the gentle breeze blowing through the tent's open roof calming her.
Suddenly, the tent flap opened and in walked Cadal and Andros who were carrying the triplets in their arms. Cadal was struggling to hold Lucaelon and Naelsella properly since the two were being fussy. While Jacerion was being claim in Andros's arms. The poor guard looked like he was about to snap from frustration.
" I'm sorry, your grace, " Cadal said. " I tried calming him down but it seems he wants his mother."
" It's alright " Elaena repiled. " I got it from here.
"Oh, what beautiful children! Can I hold your daughter?" Daenerys requested excitedly.
"Yes of course."
Cadal handed Naelsella to Daenerys, who quickly took a liking to this other dragon.
" She's beautiful, " Daenerys smiled but soon looked into her eyes, noticing it was green. " Eyes of a lion but it doesn't matter she's a true dragon. "
" Well, " Elaena said. " All my cubs inherit something of their father.
Daenerys nodded and handed Naelsella to Elaena, Cadal and Andros walked towards her, handing her sons. Lucaelon instantly calm down, welcoming his mother's touch.
For the rest of the day, Daenerys and Elaena bonded over many things as Samara and others kept watch.
For the two dragons were untied together and their fire would reign supreme.
