Chapter Seventy Six

( A chapter on our golden lion)

A certain golden lion was at his wits end; he wanted nothing more than to then just drop dead. There was nothing worth fighting for anymore, his little ice wolf was dead.

She was gone, his beautiful wife was taken from him at the hands of those heretics. Yet, when he tried to play the scenario over and over in his head it didn't make sense to him at all.

What reason did they have to kill her, they were close to one another.Β  The heretics adored his wife dearly, that wrench friend of hers was protective over her.Β  What would killing Lyarra gain them?

He started to replay the young wolf's words over and over in his head at his family being the cause of his little wolf's demise. " Your family killed her, Lannister men set fire to the inn where she was staying at."

As he continued to mull over the young wolf's accusation, a mix of emotions washed over him - anger, disbelief, guilt, and sorrow. How could his own family be responsible for the death of his wife? He couldn't shake off the feeling that there was more to the story than what he had heard.

He needs to investigate the matter further and find out the truth. Perhaps there was a misunderstanding or a mistake, and his family was wrongly accused. Or, if they were truly responsible, he needed to confront them and demand an explanation.

Jaime headed towards the bathing chamber upon arriving he saw Brienne in the tub soaking.

Her eyes widened when she saw the kingslayer standing there and instantly covered herself up with her arms, glaring at him she turned around.

" As if I would be interested in a ugly wrench like you " Jaime scoffed.

" What are you doing here? " Brienne demanded, turning around staring at him.

" Taking a bath, what else? " the golden lion repiled, stripping himself of his clothes and got into the water.

She covered her eyes at the sight of his manhood having no desire to see it.

He leaned back against the tub wall enjoying the warmth on his body.

" Find another bath " She hissed.

" This one suits me quite nicely, " Jaime said." If I faint, pull me out. " I don't intend to be the first Lannister to die in a bathtub.

" Why should I care how you die? " Brienne hissed, glaring at him.

" You swore a solemn vow, remember? " Jaime reminded her. " You're supposed to get me to King's Landing in one piece. "Not going so well, is it?

" No wonder Renly died with you guarding him " He mumbled.

Brienne's heart clutches at hearing her king'sΒ  name fall out of his lips.

" That was unworthy, " He said, glancing at her knowing he was wrong for what he said. " Forgive me You protected me better than most ...

" Don't you mock me " The Tarth knight said, warning him.

" I'm apologizing,"Β  Jaime repiled. " I'm sick of fighting. "Let's call a truce.

" You need trust to have a truce " Brienne said.

" I trust you " He replied, glancing at her but soon turned away when he saw that familiar look in her eyes that many people gave him him before disgust.

" There it is "Jaime said. " There's the look;I've seen it for 17 years face to face. " My wife looked at me the last time I saw her.

" You all despise me, " He said. " Kingslayer, Oathbreaker, a man without honor.

" You've heard of wildfire? " He inquired. " Of course the Mad King was obsessed with it; He loved to watch people burn, the way their skin blackened and blistered and melted off their bones.

He began to tell Brienne of the mad king's way, how he burnt traitors, people who were against him and even innocents he didn't do anything.

" Aerys saw traitors everywhere " Jaime continued on. " Even his only family considers them enemy's. " When Brandon Stark and Rickard Stark was tried, his pregnant daughter Princess Shaena bravely went to the capital begging him to spare her husband and her good father in law.

" He refused and made her watch as her husband burnt in front of her eyes and later ordered his king's guard to beat on her. " He nearly killed her that day."

" The day when Robert Baratheon marched on the capital after his victory at the Trident, Aerys had wildfire spread all over the city and ordered his pyromancer to burn everything to the ground.

" I pleaded with him to surrender peacefully but all he said was to bring him my father'sΒ  headΒ  " Jaime said, tears beginning to well in his eyes.

" Aerys. turned to his pyromancer and said "Burn them all,Burn them in their homes, Burn them in their beds."

Brienne listen on her eyes widened in shock at what he was telling her not expecting to hear this.

" Tell me, if your precious Renly commanded you to k*ll your own father and stand by while thousands of men, women, and children b*burned alive, would you have done it? " Jaime asked. " Would you have kept your oath then?

" First, I killed the pyromancer andΒ  then when the king turned to flee, I drove my sword into his back " He said."Burn them all," he kept saying.

" HeΒ  wanted toΒ  burn with the rest of us and rise again, reborn as a dragon to turn his enemies to ash. "I slit his throat to make sure that didn't happen. " That's where Ned
Stark found me.

" If this is true... why didn't you tell anyone? " Brienne asked. " Why didn't you tell Lord Stark?

" Stark? " Jaime said, chuckling. " You think the honorable Ned Stark wanted to hear my side? " He judged me guilty the moment he set eyes on me.

" By what right does the wolf judge the lion? " He hissed. " By what right?

Suddenly, Jaime collapsed in the water closing his eyes for a moment. Brienne rushed to his side helping him stay up float yelling for help.

" Help! " She screamed. " The Kingslayer!

Jaime opened his eyes for a split second glancing up at her."My name is Jaime, just let me drown. I have nothing to live for."

" Don't speak like that, you have everything to live for " Brienne said.

" Like what? " He asked.

" Your family, your sister, " She replied.

" Not my wife though, " Jaime mumbled. " She's gone,I broke her heart, I put her through terrible pain. " I'm the reason she's gone, I didn't protect her.

Brienne sat down beside Jaime, placing a hand on his shoulder. "Jaime, you can't blame yourself for everything. You made mistakes, but you can't change the past. What you can do is try to make things right, to be a better person moving forward."

Jaime shook his head, a bitter laugh escaping his lips. "I don't even know how to begin. I've never been a good person, Brienne. I've hurt so many people, including the ones I love."

Brienne squeezed his shoulder reassuringly. "It's never too late to start. You can make amends, you can try to make things right. But you have to want to change, Jaime. You have to want to be better."

For a moment, Jaime was silent. Brienne could see the conflict in his eyes, the struggle within him. Finally, he spoke, his voice barely above a whisper. "I do want to be better, Brienne. I just don't know how."

Brienne smiled at him, a glimmer of hope in her eyes. "We'll figure it out together, Jaime. You're not alone in this. We'll find a way to make things right."
