Chapter Eighty Eight

━━━━━━━༺ - ༻━━━━━━━

It was nightfall, Elaena and Daenerys were sitting around the campfire speaking with some of the people from Yunkai and the children, trying to get to know them.

Naerella sat across from them with her siblings Hensley and Elisaria speaking with Andros and Cadal

One month has passed since the defeat of Yunkai, and the two dragons started to advance in number as days. More people were joining them, every day.

Daenerys had been stuck with numerous parchment-work, a quill in hand more than her beloved dragons, eyebrows raised due to the stress. "Conquering is easier, but trying to rule? Not so much..." she had said to herself one time.

Rhaella and Rhaego were growing up with dragons and their cousins. While Elaena had been helping her at the Hand of the Queen, their rule was less than stable.

Some of the former slave masters' subordinates had planned a coup, hoping to restore the old order of things, but Andros and Cadal swiftly threw them into the dungeons, close to where an old dragon pit was built. Drogon was the most aggressive of the lot, roaring at the prisoners if he sensed any misdemeanor from them.

That aside, the two Targaryens were proving quite capable, mostly thanks to Elaena knowing what the people wanted. The councils were usually filled with arguments regarding policy-making, but both Daenerys and Elaena could be persuasive when they wanted to.

That night, as the two rulers of Yunkai were relaxing by the campfire, Fuyutsuki suddenly appeared before them looking quite forlorn.

"Elaena, I bring you grim news."

The young ice dragon's eyes lit up upon seeing her old pal once more. She stood up and drew him in for a hug. " "You're all better,"

Samara sprang up and approached him, saying, "Master, you're back."

Fuyutsuki smiled at the two, happy to see them again. It'd been too long. He glanced up at the young ice dragon wondering how she would take the news, the last thing he wanted to do was to cause her angst.

Yet, He knew he had to inform Elaena and the rest of the Starks on their brother and mother's passing.

" Daenerys, this is Emperor Fuyutsuki of Kamakura, " Elaena said, introducing them to each other.

" It's nice to meet you, your imperial highness, " Daenerys said, standing up. " And, thank you for your country's support in my cause.

He glanced up at the dragon queen with a smile, lifting her hand and bringing it to his lips, kissing it gently. "Likewise, your grace."

" How is Kyoko? " Samara asked.

" She's well, '' Fuyutsuki replied.

" You shouldn't leave her again for too long, " The sorceress advised.

The sorcerer nodded with a playful smile forming on his face knowing his wife could be quite scary when ignored. " Trust me, I have learned my lesson the last time."

" We are glad you're doing better, " Elaena said. " We were worried."

" Yeah, you can't give out on us soon old man " Samara teased.

Fuyutsuki gasped out in sarcasm at what his student was saying. " I am not that old."

" You kind are, " Elaena said, teasing.

" I see some gray hairs forming in your hair, " Samada said, sharing a glance with her best friend.

" You two have truly become cruel in your teasing, " He said, shaking his head at them.

" We are not being cruel, " The red sorceress said. " Not, intentionally anyway."

Elaena shook her head at her best friend. It had been too long since they had a pleasant night. " How are Rickon and Arya?"

Fuyutsuki stared up at the young dragon and said. " They're good. " Arya has been taking up some lady lessons with my wife, Rickon is doing very well in his training."

Samara let out a snicker at what she was hearing. " I'm sorry, did you say Arya and lady lessons?"

" Arya wishes to be a lady!? " Elaena said, in a shocked tone. She could never imagine her young she-wolf of a sister in dresses.

" Well, she wishes to learn some useful tips from my wife, " The sorcerer answered. " Though, she still is trying to be the next Visenya Targaryen."

" And, how is Dreamfrye doing, " Elaena asked, wondering about the little white hatchling hoping she was okay.

"Dreamfrye is doing well," Fuyutsuki replied, a fond smile on his face. "She's growing rapidly, and her fire is becoming stronger. She is as big as a ship now."

Elaena smiled at that, a sense of relief washing over her. She had been worried about the young dragon, but it seemed she was in good hands.

"That's good to hear," she murmured. "We've been worried about her. It's not easy raising a dragon."

Fuyutsuki nodded, understanding her concern. "It's indeed a challenge, but it's also a privilege. They're remarkable creatures."

Daenerys cleared her throat, speaking up. " What news did you have to tell Elaena again."

The emperor's eyes began to sadden not wanting to tell her of this distraught news. " We should go somewhere private."

The young ice dragon stared up at her old friend sensing something was wrong. " Something has happened, hasn't it."

" What is it? " She asked.

Samara glanced up at her master, his eyes meeting her giving her a look. "We should talk somewhere privately, away from the children's ears."

Elaena nodded agreeing with her friend

" You should come with us too, your grace. " Fuyutsuki said. " This news will benefit you."

Daenerys nodded signaling two unsullied soldiers to follow behind her.

Elaena, Daenerys, and Samara along with the two unsullied soldiers walked away from the campfire, heading into one of the main tents. Once they entered, Fuyutsuki began to pace around unsure of how to deliver a bombshell such as this.

Samara glanced at her master, sadly knowing he was feeling conflicted about whether or not to tell Elaena the truth, but it was only right that she knew the truth.

She had learned of Robb and Lady Catelyn's death in a dream a few nights ago, she had seen the horror of what they endured and couldn't help but smile at that.

They deserved every bit of karma that came their way, they had tried to order the deaths of innocent children and tried to sell one off as a bargaining chip.

The red sorceress was glad that they were gone, no longer a threat to Elaena. The only thing she felt sad about was telling Elaena what happened, knowing despite their betrayal her best friend still loved them.

Elaena was far too good for this world, she had a pure heart which many had taken advantage of such as the kingslayer himself.

Samara cleared her throat and spoke. " " Just tell her, Fuyutsuki, she needs to know the truth."

The young ice dragon glanced back and forth at her friends wondering what they were keeping from her now. " The truth about what?" What's going on tell me?."

Fuyutsuki looked over at the young ice dragon in pity and said, " Your brother Robb and mother were murdered by the twins Walder Frey and Roose Bolton, a plot created by Tywin Lannister."

Elaena felt her heart drop at what she had just heard, not knowing what to say or feel.

Daenerys on the other hand was quite happy about the news, glad to know that their children were safe now.

This was one less problem for them to deal with at the moment.

" I am so sorry, " The sorcerer said, glancing at his friend in pity.

The young ice dragon cleared her throat and spoke. " It's alright, thank you for telling me."

Elaena pushed back her tears, her face remaining stone cold, refusing to be sad over their deaths. They had tried to kill her and Daenerys's children sold her little girl off to those stinking freys.

The only she felt sorry for was the northern soldiers who were slaughtered that night for Robb's mistake.

" Do Arya and Rickon know? " She asked.

Fuyutsuki shook his head and said. " Not yet, I want to tell you first."

Elaena was lost in her thoughts for a moment wondering how her siblings would take it not wanting to imagine the look on her siblings' faces when hearing the news. " I would appreciate it if you could tell them; they deserve to know ."

" Kyoko will tell them when the time is right, " The sorcerer said.

" We will hold a funeral in honor of them." Elaena said. Where are their bodies?

Fuyutsuki gazes at her not wanting to tell her of the graphic details about the red wedding. " There are none, even if Lord Frey probably has their heads stuck on pipes on his wall."

Elaena shook her head not believing him one second, knowing their bodies had to be out there so where. " Perhaps, I can send a letter to Walder Frey asking him to send their bodies, so they can be put to rest ."

" He won't agree to your request, " Samara said. " Lord Frey probably had their bodies burnt or worse penetrated."

Daenerys glanced at her niece in shock at what she was suggesting. " Elaena, you would hold a funeral for them after they betrayed you and tried to kill your children."

" It's not for me, it's for my siblings " Elaena replied, glancing back at her aunt. " They deserve to have a chance to say goodbye to their brother and mother for the last time."

Samara laid a comforting hand on her friend's shoulder and said. " You are very honorable for doing trust."

" I will hold the funeral in the old dragon pit nearby, " Elaena said.

She glanced up at her friend and said. " Would you mind gathering up my siblings and bringing them here, it's been far too long since we've all been away from each other."

" Of course, your grace, " Fuyutsuki replied. " I will fetch them."

He shapeshifted into his crow form and flew out of the text into the skies.

" You are very kind for doing that, niece, " Daenwrys said, staring at her niece with a sad smile. " You have a big heart, even for people who betrayed you.

Elaena turned to face her aunt once more, sadness was visible in her icy blue eyes. " They were my family. They didn't deserve to pass away in that manner, regardless of what they did. And Arya, Sansa, and Rickon... need resolution. All of us do.

She got on her feet while the news still weighed heavily on her heart. "I'm going to begin trying to reach out for some allies across the narrow sea."

Daenerys nodded, acknowledging the significant obligation Elaena was taking on. "You can rely on me, Elaena. We'll complete this jointly."

Elaena nodded in appreciation for her aunt's help. She paused before turning to leave. She added, her voice barely above a whisper, "And Daenerys." "Thank you."

She then exited the room, leaving Daenerys to think by herself. All of them had been shocked by the news of Robb and their mother's passing, but Elaena... She was stronger than she appeared. For her niece, Daenerys couldn't help but feel proud. Elaena still has the heart of a dragon despite

everything.

Two weeks went by, Elaena had met up with her siblings once again. Sansa, who was closest to her current location, was the first to receive the news. She wore a Norvoshi-style gown; loose-fitting, pastel purple, one-shouldered and embroidered with golden threads. Her once innocent blue eyes now held a sharp tinge to them, and her hair was straighter than when she was last seen.

Arya and Rickon were next, wearing white kimonos (upon Kyoko's advice). Sansa had remarked on it at first, but Rickon quickly made the excuse of it being a Stark color. He was partly right; but he and Arya ahd come to realize the color's... other meaning. Case in point, Dreamfyre was waiting at the Dragon Pits, anxious and ready to spit out fire the moment Arya snapped.

Fuyutsuki, as a crow, carried three coffins on his back. The direwolves Crystal, Lady, Nymeria and Shaggydog looked to the sky, their eyes dim. The litter of pets knew something was wrong β€” Grey Wind was somewhere inside those boxes.

"By the power of Thanatos... !" Sansa exclaimed, having learnt that fron the Norvoshi. Both Rickon and Arya gazed up at her; she must have caught on too.

The crow descended into the ground, and Elaena quickly used her powers to set the coffins to their places. The nine dragons then emerged, each eager to see what had made their masters despair.

"I stopped by the Jackal's to get them preserved." said Fuyutsuki, who now looked exhausted.

"You mean, those pyramids at Pentos?" Arya remarked.

"...Yes. Finest embalmers in Essos."

" How did you manage to find them? " Elaena asked. " Did Lord Frey accept my demands?"

"Lord Frey has no respect for the dead." he replied somberly, and opened the coffin that housed Robb.

His head was clearly swen together, it must have been cut off when he was killed. Same applied to Grey Wind. The younger Starks screamed and wailed, particularly Sansa, who did not expect such discourtesy.

"No wonder why you two wore white..." she muttered, in between her tears.

" Close the coffins now " Elaena ordered, tears welling in her eyes. " They don't need to see this."

The young ice dragon grabbed her siblings all in for a hug trying to comfort them to the best of their abilities.

Catelyn was in far worse shape. She bah been found floating at the Trident, partially decayed. The embalmers in their jackal masks had truly tried their best, but even they could not hide the slit made on her throat, or the skeletons showing on her eyes. Some of the fluid, yellowish, leaked out from those once blue eyes like tears of gold. Elaena noticed, that even in her last moments, she looked rather... remorseful, pleading.

The gods did not hear her, even then.

" Thank you, my friend, " Elaena said.

The direwolves had gathered at the third coffin, begging with their whimpers for it to be opened. Reluctantly, Fuyutsuki unsealed the bos, revealing Grey Wind's swen in head and body riddled with wounds from arrows. His once lustrous fur was now gone; a certain house made sure to leave him dishonored even in death. As a result, he had been wrapped in white linen, but the golden embalming fluid still highlighted his wounds.

Perhaps Ghost and Summer had a hunch, wailing as the winter there pressed on.

" Your grace, it's time, " Cadal said, making his way towards his queen and her siblings.

Sansa, Arya and Rickon did not object. They had seen enough of their family's humiliation.

"Tsuki, doesn't the Pentoshi believe that corpses burnt cannot enter the afterlife?"

"They do... but your family is not Pentoshi."

Elaena, Sansa, Arya and Rickon gathered along with everyone else inside the old dragon pit. Daenerys was standing next to Ser Jorah wearing a long-sleeved black dress with shades of red, her hair pined up high.

Fuyutsuki and Hayate placed the coffins in the center of the pit, saying their prayers in different languages. Samara noted a scarab on both Robb and Catelyn's necks and removed them. She would find use for those amulets later.

Sansa walked up to the coffins holding a blue rose in her hand, she laid her hands on both of the coffins whispering out a prayer.

She lay the blue roses on her mother's coffin, tears forming in her eyes. After saying her peace the young red wolf made her way back over to the rest of her siblings.

Arya and Rickon were up next, they walked up to the coffins just as tearful as Sansa was. . Each held two bouquets of spider lilies, and white chrysanthemums, both symbols of demise. They had seen many Kamakurans use those flowers in funerals, and they took the culture with them to at least, honor their lost family for the last time.

Much to their surprise, the dragon queen walked over to the coffins placing lilies down upon them. . It looked like a shower, reminding the audience of life's fleeting nature. No matter how many years they had lived, it was always too short for the world around them, most especially the ones who loved them most.

Soon, everyone began to place flowers on the coffins whispering prayers out for the young wolf and the Tully to find peace.

Finally, it was Elaena's turn; she slowly walked over to the coffins unsure what to say. She was holding an ice flower in her hand.

She placed her hand on the coffins starting down at her falling brother and mother. " I love you, Robb, no matter what you have done I will always be your sister and remember all the good times we had before people turned us against each other. " Rest in peace, my brother."

Turning over to her mother's coffin placing a hand on it and said. " Mother, I know you probably hated me but I want you to know I don't hate you. " You were nothing but a good mother figure to me, I'll always see you as my mother no matter what. " Rest in peace, mama."

Elaena put the ice flower down on her brother's coffin, she glanced around the pit seeing everyone bow their heads in respect.

She cleared her voice and spoke. " I want to thank you all for being here today for me and my siblings."

Everyone smiled at her nodding their heads glad to be there for her and her family.

" May, my brother Robb and mother rest in peace, " Elaena said, loudly.

" May they rest in peace " Everyone said, in harmony."

Eddarion, who was almost the size of a ship, came flying over to his mother. He hovered over the coffins, he let out a screech at his mother waiting for her signal.

" Dracarys! " Elaena said, glancing up at her blue hatchling.

Eddarion obeyed, opening his mouth blue flames came shooting out onto the coffins.

Elaena walked back towards her siblings grabbing them close. The siblings watched on, their faces illuminated by the flickering glow of the pyre as their brother and mother's coffins burned. Arya and Sansa, their expressions stoic, stood tall and unwavering. Rickon, the youngest, leaned into Arya, his small frame shaking with quiet sobs.

Elaena stood a little distance away, her gaze fixed on the flames. The dancing fire reflected in her icy blue eyes, revealing a depth of sorrow and resilience. She had orchestrated this final tribute, a means to provide closure, and to honor the memory of their family despite the bitter betrayal she had endured from them.

" What happens now, Elaena, " Rickon asked, glancing up at his sister.

Elaena glanced at her little brother and said. " I don't know."

The young ice dragon didn't know what would have happened next and didn't care to know about it. All that mattered was being here now with her siblings, enjoying time together.

Whatever would come their way next they would figure it out together.
