Octavia comes in later to apologize and I mumble a muffled "thank you". But I've already decided that everyone in the Capitol is evil. A few hours later Octavia comes back into my room and tells me that it's time to meet my stylist who will prepare my look for the interview. I nod and put on some casual clothing. I walk to the living room, where Octavia and Concher are talking. Since when did theyย get along? Octavia notices me coming. "Well darlings, time to meet your stylists!". We go into the elevator and Octavia presses the button saying "G" or "ground". It's exciting going in the elevator, even though I'm 16 and about to die and should not be thinking about this. But I can't help it. Asherah would love this elevator. Pearl would too, but not show it. I wonder how they're doing back home. Hopefully I make it back home. For them.
Once the elevator door opens, Octavia leads us through some twists and turns to this room with countless wardrobes filled with extravagant creations on maniquettes. I see a black evening dress decorated with an emerald corset. A purple ballgown decorated with an amethyst necklace. An azure sundress like the ones we wear in 4, except made with flowing silk. Octavia catches me looking at them. "All of them were created by one person. You are very lucky my darlings! Tigris Snow is going to be your stylist.". A weird silence settles in, until Octavia clicks her fingers. "Tigris, honey? They're here.". "Oh coming!", a lady says. Tigris steps out from a curtain and looks at me and Concher.
"Hi, I'm Tigris. Tigris Snow.", she says.
"It's an honor. Your creations are just... beautiful. I'm Mags and this is Concher.". I motion to him.
"Nice to meet you, both. And thank you. I try and add some district elements to it, like the sundresses from 4 or the evening dresses from 11. Adds a homey feel to them, don't you agree?"
I nod.
"Well, let me introduce myself. I'm Tigris Snow, born Capitol. And I love clothes. They just... speak to me."
"Snow, like Coriolanus Snow?", Concher asks.
Tigris winces, like the name Coriolanus brings back bad memories. "Yes, I suppose so."
"Isn't he currently the vice president?"
"Yes.", Tigris replies. "I'm his cousin. But the old Coryo I knew is dead.". Tigris then covers her mouth, like she just spilled a secret. "I'm sorry. Let's get back to work, shall we?"
Tigris chooses me to come with her first to get my outfit for tonight's interview. She asks me what I would like to wear and I replied with "something beautiful, that would make an impression". Tigris smiles and says she has the exact thing for that. A wardrobe labelled "Tigris' Private Clothes" creaks open, as Tigris pushes it. She rummages through it and brings out a mannequin with the most beautiful thing I have ever seen.
It's a baby blue ballgown made out of luxurious silk, with a corset that is lined with blue opal. There's also a small crown, made out of gold, with a transparent blue veil. The hemline glimmers when Tigris spins the mannequin and the sleeves are made out of the same light and translucent material as my veil. But the best thing about it is that when Tigris spins it, the silk starts to flow, just like water. Like the sea. The sea. District 4.
"Oh my god."
"Thought it would add a little touch of home, I reckon.", Tigris says.
"B-but Tigris I couldn't possibly wear this! I mean it's from your private wardrobe!"
"If you look good, you'll feel good. You're going to be stunning! They'll love you."
I let out a excited laugh, as Tigris slowly and delicately puts the dress onto me. It seems to exactly fit my size and when I twirl, the water effect is even more astounding. Tigris then places the crown on top of my head, along with the veil. And if things couldn't get any better, Tigris then takes out a princess necklace from another wardrobe made out of glimmering aquamarine.ย
"Tigris... thank you so much.". I give her a hug. I actually feel beautiful now. Thanks to Tigris."
"My pleasure. Should we show it to Octavia and Concher?"
"Yes!"
We step out of the room and Octavia lets out an audible gasp.
"My darling, you look gorgeous!", she says.
"Well, all thanks to Tigris."
Tigris just gives a small smile. Concher looks mesmerized and I can't help but laugh a little about it. How we fought a few hours ago, and now he's falling for me? Tigris seems to notice me too because she mouths the word "spice" and I end up crying from laughter.
Tigris then takes Concher and a few minutes later, he comes out in a three-piece suit, with a jacket that has the same shade of blue as my dress, and a crisp white collared shirt, so unlike the stained ones we have in 4.ย
"Wow. You look less ugly.", I say.
Concher lets out a friendly laugh. "You too, Mags. You too."
I'll just assume that everything's fine between the two of us.
Octavia and I make some small talk, and she complains about how having the interview before the training sessions will lessen the anticipation, while I reply saying she should tell the Capitol officials or something.
When it's time for the tribute interviews, Tigris places me and Concher on small chairs in front of a mirror, as she styles our hair, and for me my makeup. Tigris braids my hair into a side braid ponytail and gives Concher a spray of cologne. She then applies light blue eyeshadow on my eyelids and adds a touch of blush on my cheeks. Then, some lip gloss for my lips and the finishing touches, which include placing the necklace on. I feel so luxurious in this dress and even with the tiara and the necklace, it seems simple not extravagant.
We are escorted to the theatre in the Tribute Building, where the interviews will take place. We line up with the others in order of district. It's actually the first time I meet all the tributes in person and Concher strikes up conversations with 1 and 2. They seem to be getting along well. Meanwhile, I talk to 5 and 6, to discuss strategies or allying. The girl from 5, Lanita, is nice enough and it's fun talking to her. I also notice that the boy from 6, Steerer, is very protective of his district partner Rainie. And the more I get to talk to them, the more I wonder, "How am I going to kill these people?".ย
Now I know them personally. It's worse than being enemies. Now we're friends.
