𝟒. The Reaper (part 1)

Emily threw the book on the table. Because of it, you had left home and now all she could do was look at her mother with an angry expression.

«What the hell's going in your head, why you keep talking about the same story over and over and in front of Y/n?!» Her tone tried to be calm, but the situation had gotten out of hand again and now that the evening was going well, they started talking about the damned past again «You have to stop this mom, otherwise we'll get out of here.»

«And you always want to solve things like this, running away?» The older woman retorted when saw her daughter rise from the seat at the table, as if she intended to leave «My only niece has the right to know what kind of place you took her to!»

«You see? That's why I didn't want to come back! But I did it for you and for dad who's no longer here.» The two women fought through words and gestures, until Emily gave up «I know what happened that night of twenty-five years ago. But I didn't want this to upset Y/n in any ways, she shouldn't have known...»

Without another word, her mother took a step towards her and hugged her, remembering the past had made her forget that her daughter and granddaughter were in her house, after so much time spent at a distance.

«I'm sorry darling.»

The other woman returned the gesture, before looking to the set dinner and at the book left there, which had just ruined a pleasant family evening; she couldn't forget the look on the face of that child she once thought was innocent and when saw him, her nightmare was awakened again.

Judith's laughter on that morning of October 31st...the shyness in Michael's eyes when she gave him his new clown costume...everything was perfect, before night fell, unaware that Death would soon knock on the door of the Myers house.

«If only I had arrived in time...I could have stopped him.» Emily whispered into her mother's shoulder, a question she couldn't find an answer if not more feelings of guilt. That night, Mrs. Johnson had seen her daughter covered in blood and the shock printed in her eyes, full of tears and horror.

And then there was that kid. He was covered in blood too, but there was something wrong with him, as if his sister's death hadn't affected him in the slightest. His eyes were pitch black, as if there was no life left inside him...but he was only seven years old, how could he hurt his own sister in such a brutal way?

People started to murmur later. Her daughter continued to believe that Michael hadn't done it and in the meantime, there were those who believed it was Emily Johnson who killed Judith Myers during a fight between girls...but luckily, she was innocent and analyzes conducted at the crime scene demonstrated the murderer was the victim's younger brother.

«There was nothing you could do, Emily.» The mother held her daughter tighter, none of them could forget the bad past they had encountered in their lives, as if it were an indelible scar «You couldn't know that Evil had nestled inside him, to the point of harming his own family...but now he's locked inside a prison and that's what matters.»

She was right, there was no need to worry anymore, the only thought in Emily's head was knowing where you were and so, she picked up the phone to press the button on your contact, but she just heard the answering machine voice.

«Maybe it's just a lack of connection. She's not a reckless girl, she will come home soon.» Emily looked at her mother and believed her, Haddonfield wasn't a dangerous place and knowing you, you were already on your way home, tired of getting cold and with a stomach that was rumbling with hunger.

«...I guess I need to reheat dinner again.»

She seemed to have finally gotten rid of some burdens until the door bell rang, surely it was her sweet daughter returning home to make peace.

But she didn't know that something else was waiting for her.

«Honey–»

«Mrs. Johnson, right?» A young officer appeared before her and judging by the look on his face, something had happened «I'm Lieutenant Carter, Haddonfield Police. This is not a simple check-up in view of Halloween. Is your daughter home?»

The other woman shook the head, clearly confused and the policeman continued speaking.

«I'm her daughter...what do you need, agent?»

«Some guys have gone missing, including your daughter...at the moment, the dynamics of the accident are still to be verified.»

At those words, the woman turned pale like a ghost and a shiver ran down her spine, she had a bad feeling about it.

«...what kind of accident?»

The policeman merely invited her to follow him outside and Emily did immediately after telling her mother to wait for her return.

«Please, tell me what's happening and what does my daughter have to do with this? Is she fine?!» The woman didn't stop asking Lieutenant Carter questions and he drove straight to the Anderson house, which had already been surrounded by yellow wires and police cars; Emily knew that family well and knew they had a daughter of your age, but now she couldn't understand what the connection was with you.

Carter parked the car right in front of the entrance. Emily wanted to go out and see with her own eyes, but she was prevented by the other agents, now the house was accessible only to authorized people so as not to dirty the evidence inside, as well as not to leave her with bad views.

Slowly, the street was filling up with people but unlike them, Emily's head filled with terrible thoughts, result of her past experience, whatever had happened tonight, it couldn't be connected in any way to that night of twenty-five years ago...

«No, there was no way he did...»

Lieutenant Carter got out of the car alone. The electrical cables had been cut cleanly and the police officers were forced to walk around the house just with flashlights. The air was becoming less breathable, as if there had been some wild animal in there...

Of course, they didn't expect to find themselves in the middle of a carnage.

He had never seen anything like it. Sure, he already knew about Judith Myers' murder and couldn't imagine anything worse than that, but he had just discovered he was wrong.

«How can a human do...this.»

The first boy had been found on the kitchen floor, his throat deeply cut. Apart from the pool of his blood, there were no particular signs of a struggle with the attacker, most likely he had been taken by surprise and the agent made a note in his notebook, trying to not miss anything.

Not far away, there was the body of a girl. She had purple bruises around her neck and the right side of her head had crushed the nearby wall hard, as there was still some remnant on it; chairs and other objects were scattered everywhere, but nothing had been stolen.

«Another here. I think he tried to fight, but it wasn't enough.» Carter moved towards the living room, where his colleague was talking. There, a second boy had been found on the stairs and this time, full of stab wounds all over his body, which belonged to a large blade.

«Whatever monster is, it must be stopped.»

The lieutenant didn't answer and lit a cigarette to calm his nerves. They had never seen so much violence before and coincidentally, it had happened again after a long time, on Halloween night.

Suddenly, they heard some creaking upstairs. Carter motioned for two other officers to follow him with their guns ready...

But what he found was another girl on the ground, barely breathing.

«It's okay, you're safe with us!» When he put a hand on her shoulder, the red-haired girl didn't stop trembling, raising her eyes full of terror, she had a deep wound on her abdomen which was holding down with the palm of her hand «What happened here, who hurt your friends?»

The girl was still in shock and weak from the blood loss, but still tried to move her lips to say something.

«H-him...it was the—»

She fell asleep after that. Lieutenant Carter tried to shake her, but her skin quickly became cold and he ordered the ambulance to hurry up.

«Lieutenant? There's something you need to see here...it's urgent.» One of his men called him from another bedroom and judging by his tone of voice, it wasn't a pretty sight. Carter took a deep breath and stepped inside, his flashlight pointing straight at whatever was there.

What if you were there? He had taken a photo of you from the woman and for now, you were none of the girls found, but it was still too early to sing victory; he slowly advanced towards the double bed and there, he saw someone lying there, completely still, blood was everywhere around her body and when the policeman touched her wrist, he clearly felt a pulse.

«Did I say call the fucking ambulance or not?!» He shouted to the others without turning, there was no way he could let her die too. Carter kept to analyze the place and the unknown girl, whose clothes had been partially torn away...but when he moved to the foot of the bed, he was speechless by the terrible sight between her legs and there, an unpleasant thought crossed his mind.

«Don't tell me this girl...»

Finally, the sounds of the ambulance approaching were heard. He came out just in time to see the stretchers roll in, as Emily Johnson ran towards him with labored breathing, but before the woman could ask, her gaze caught a cot where there was a girl, supported by a respirator and wrapped in a white veil, now stained with her own blood...as soon as she recognized her, Emily tried to wriggle away from the policeman who had been holding her to keep her calm, promising that he would have escorted her to the hospital to see her daughter.

Of the five youngers found in the house, just two girls were taken from the crime scene to hospital urgently, both in very serious conditions. Once again, that quiet town had been stained with blood, as had happened twenty-five years earlier, but there was no certainty that it was the same person...he had vanished from there, locked up in some psychiatric clinic before being thrown in some prison cell for the rest of his life...

So, it wasn't possible that man had returned and killed those people...and if so, why had only one been spared?

After being brought home, Emily and her mother headed to the hospital as quickly as possible. Even though she hadn't said anything yet, the tears on her daughter's face didn't lie and Mrs. Johnson became more and more worried.

«What happened to Y/n? Please tell me!»

But the younger woman just quickened the pace, hoping that what she had seen earlier wasn't true and all of this was just a terrible dream...and when she asked about you, the nurse clearly told her that she would have to wait for you to be escorted to the patient room, after having done all the checks.

«I-it happened again and on Halloween night, it can't be a coincidence!» Mrs. Johnson thought in a loud, shaky voice and Emily did everything she couldn't to follow, placing the hands on her temples to stay clear «What if it was–»

«Say that and I'll take you home immediately, mom.» Emily interrupted, clearly tired of hearing, nothing else was more important than you at the moment and later, the doctor walked out the door to report the results.

«Please God, tell me my daughter is safe and sound!»

«The parameters are stable, but your daughter's condition is very serious. The injuries suffered are multiple and in particular, the internal one caused her an instant shock...she is now under medication and resting in her room, you can come and see her now–»

«What do you mean with internal injury?» Emily asked when she noticed the doctor's worried tone, the truth would have shocked her further but she had to know what happened to her daughter that night.

«...what I mean is, your daughter has suffered very serious physical abuse. It's a miracle she's still alive but thanks to sperm samples, the police will be able to find the culprit. I'm so sorry for this, Mrs. Dawson.»

Without wasting any more time, Emily rushed into the room where you were, her face full of tears. When she reached the room, your mother stood there, watching you with the respirator on your sleeping face, still marked by the previous attack before approaching with a shaky step.

«M-my little girl...» She took your sore cheeks in her hands, but you didn't respond to the stimulus «WHO DID THIS TO MY DAUGHTER!?»

Emily burst into uncontrollable tears, collapsing onto your bed. Mrs. Johnson reached the door, unable to hold back her tears as she saw her only granddaughter in such terrible conditions.

«I-it happened again...but why Y/n?»

The other woman remained silent, intent on observing you and there, she noticed some cuts on your arm, cuts caused by a sharp blade...she had already seen them in the past, on Judith's body and the thought that it had been the same person as twenty-five years ago became possible, if not certain.

«It was him, mom.» Emily just answered through sobs, struggling to stay lucid as she dared to pronounce a name she had hoped to forget forever. Death had returned to terrorize the poor town of Haddonfield and this time, it had targeted her family, aiming at you.

«It was Michael Myers
