Chapter 34

"Natalia?" I hear the relief in Nash's voice when he says my name.

"Sorry for making you worry," I tell him and I can picture him shaking his head in response.

"Don't apologize, you don't know how fucking relieved I am to hear your voice," he answers. "Hold on a second while I get Jason." I hear the sound of him walking away from where he is and a knock on a door before Jason's voice comes through the line.

"Natalia, what's your status right now?" Jason asks getting straight to the point.

"Hey Chief, I managed to get away from where Felix left me and I'm on my way to arrest him," I tell him. "There was another warehouse we didn't know about that's currently burning away hopefully what is the remaining amount of drug."

"Burning away? They set it on fire?" he asks in a sharp voice.

"Yeah and they tried to burn it away along with me in it," I say, my voice muttering the last part but I know the two of them pick up that last detail.

"What do you mean along with you in it?" Nash asks echoing my last words.

"Felix in his words said he was taking a page from the woman who set fire to Vcitoria's hospital room," I say quoting his earlier words to the two of them. The phone is silent for a moment and I know that there are dark expressions on their faces.

"Anything else to report," Jason questions, anger clear in his tone.

"I'll need medical, not in good shape right now and Felix will definitely need medical after I'm done with him," I say to him. "Let me send you the address for the warehouse and where I'm heading. At the warehouse I left a man there who was helping Felix, I doubt he'll be leaving so he should still be there."

As an officer the last thing I should be doing is texting and driving but right now I don't have much choice. Luckily for me there aren't many cars on the highway right now so I slow down a bit as I quickly type both addresses to Nash.

"I'm going to send back up your way right now," Jason tells me. "Depending on how fast you drive you might arrive before them, there's no precinct nearby there."

"I'll get there as fast as I can and see what I can do, my busted leg has gone through enough tonight," I tell them.

"Busted leg?" Nash questions in concern.

"I had to get out of the warehouse somehow and running through fire was my last plan," I say evasively.

"You're deflecting Natalia," he scolds.

"It's a long story among other things and also why medical needs to be sent," I reply, deflecting his question. I don't want to worry him more since we still have a job to finish. "Where's Jade?"

"Jade is with her teacher, you already talked with them about this possibly happening so they were prepared. All of them are worried about you," he adds.

"A hit was already put out for me so what was stopping them from trying to kidnap me if it didn't work out? I'm not surprised though they were alarmed when I brought it up," I say to him. I hear rustling noises in the background before hearing the sound of a car engine. "Where are you going?"

"You didn't think we wouldn't be coming out to you did you?" Jason asks. "They already fucked up when they started this shit but they fucked up even more when they took one of our own. A quarter of the precinct is heading out." A warm feeling passes through me when I hear that.

"Drive carefully Natalia, we'll see you soon," Nash tells me.

"You too," I reply before hanging up and tossing the phone back onto the passenger seat. I continue to drive for another twenty minutes before exiting the highway and the area I'm in now really shows how far out they are from civilization. By the time I reach where the man is supposed to meet Felix, it's obvious to see that the houses here are very spaced from one another and that a person wouldn't know what their neighbour is doing.

I've slowed down the speed of the car as I look for the house number Felix texted earlier and I feel a bit energized when I finally see it plus Felix's car meaning he's still here. I turn into the driveway, it's shabby and unkept, probably he was using this place since it's an emergency because it doesn't look lived in. Garbage was scattered all over the yard and the front porch light bulb is flickering; I'm not looking forward to seeing the inside of the house. I turn off the engine place the keys in the waistband of my pants and take the gun I took from the man earlier.

I glance down at my leg and I know I have to push myself one more time to officially see this through to the end. I open the door and the blast of cold air chills me instantly, the car heater only did so much in warming me up. I step out of the car, careful so I don't put my leg on the ground which would make me fall down. I hop a little to the side so I can close the door, my body leaning against the car as I look in the distance to the door.

"I'm not even going to make it halfway without falling into the snow, I'll be caught," I mutter to myself. I quickly look around to see if there's anything I can use to help me walk and I know my eyes are lighting up when I see a broomstick a couple of feet away from me. Seems luck is working in my favour right now. To the best of my abilities, I steadily hop over to where it's on the ground and bend down to pick it up. It's a poor variation of a crutch but it's honestly better than nothing.

I make my way through the snow to the front door, if anybody saw me right now I'd probably be a sight to see. Honestly speaking if I saw someone like myself right now besides going to help them I'd wonder how the fuck they ended up like that. Eventually with my pace I finally make it to the door and I toss the broomstick behind me as my hand grips the door casing while the other takes the gun from the waistband of my pants.

My fist knocks on the door loudly three times and when it opens the person standing in front of me lets out a gasp when their eyes meet mine. I hold up the gun to my lips in a keep-silent motion and Georgia's eyes are wide with dread; she's smart enough to know it's game over for her. And her being here makes things so much easier in lighting the workload of having to look for her.

"Don't try any shit with me, take me to him," I say in a low voice. "And I need you to support me, I can't walk."

"What the hell happened to you?" she asks as she takes my arm and slings it over her shoulder.

"I don't think I need to explain anything to her," I bluntly tell her, especially to someone that's going to be arrested and was indirectly as well as directly responsible for everything.  "Where is he?"

"Basement," she replies as we walk inside and she closes the door behind me.

"You could have retired peacefully but instead you'll be spending your remaining years in jail, I'm personally going to make sure you get the maximum. And your brother will be joining you as well, it'll be a whole family event," I say as I glance over at her nervous expression.

"I needed something before I left Natalia, you wouldn't understand," she hisses at me as we start going down the basement staircase.

"Of course I wouldn't understand, I'm not delusional about causing harm to others just so I can get some recognition, you're fucking crazy," I conclude as we reach the landing and see Felix's back turned towards us.

"Good work Roman, the place is engulfed in flames by now right? They'll have a hard time finding anything or anyone," he cackles callously. I can't believe this is the same man that I've worked with the last couple of years, even if we weren't the closest of friends I did consider us to be good work colleagues.

"I'll make sure to pass on your thoughts the next time I see him for you," I say aloud and I don't miss the way his body stiffens when he hears my voice.

"How did you get out?" he questions and he still hasn't turned around to look at me.

"What, did you think I was just going to stay there and wait for someone to come for me?" I ask sarcastically with a laugh. "You should at least know me better than that Felix, I'll do anything when it comes to getting the job done." My gaze doesn't miss as his arm shifts on the table in front of him and I already have a scenario in my head on what he's planning to do.

"So what's your plan now? You're going to arrest the two of us? Good luck accomplishing that," he sneers. In an instant he turns around with a gun in hand ready to shoot me but I don't even wait a second as I fire mine into his hand. "Fuck!" he shouts aloud as the gun falls and he clutches his bleeding hand. Georgia's hand on my arm tightens in shock considering everything is happening without warning.

"I don't want to stand anymore so take me over to that chair Georgia so I can sit. And as for you, I'll shoot you again if you try to pull any other shit so don't test me," I say to Felix as he glares at me. She helps me to the only chair down here and the moment I sit down the tension that I had since I was kidnapped starts to fade away.

"What are we waiting for now?" Georgia ask me.

"Now we're waiting for the backup, officers are going to be here soon for the two of you," I say as I look at the two of them. She falls quiet when she hears my answer and it's silent for a couple of minutes before I hear muttering coming from Felix. "If you want to say something to me don't be a fucking coward."

"I said I shouldn't have left you alive at the warehouse," he repeats while I roll my eyes.

"Yes, that's too bad for you, I should thank you for underestimating me," I counter and his glare deepens. It's not long until we hear the sound of footsteps and loud calls of 'police'. "Looks like your time is up for the both of you."

"I am not going to jail, someone my age can't go to jail," Georgia stammers nervously.

"Freeze, this is the police, everyone put your hands up in the air," a voice commands and we see three police officers, two men and one woman coming down to the basement. "Which one of you is Natalia? We were told that you would be handling the situation."

"That would be-"

"Me! I'm Natalia!" Georgia exclaims as she cuts me off midsentence. "She's holding the two of us hostage and she shot him." She points at me and I look at her in disbelief as she blatantly lies to the officers and plays the victim.

"You're mistaken, I'm Natalia and she is the one that the call was made out for to arrest," I correct but the three officers look at the two of us before walking over to me and grabbing onto my wrists so they take the gun from my hand.

"You're under arrest Georgia Hamilton for your involvement in drug possession," the female officer says to me and the next thing I know is cuffs are being placed onto my wrists and I internally sigh at the ludicrously.

"This woman is probably on her way to retirement so why would you try to frame her for a crime she didn't commit?" one of the male officers asks. But I'm the one being framed for a crime I didn't commit. Besides having to deal with this bullshit I'm going to have to deal with these three idiots when I report them and push to have them suspended from their jobs.

There's no doubt that Jason wouldn't have sent a description of Georgia and Felix so there's no reason for them to fuck up so badly. Well it doesn't matter, Jason, Nash and the rest of the people from our precinct are on their way here so I won't be in these for long. And for Georgia this is just going to be an added charge for her so good luck to her on trying to get out of it. I doubt she would have tried this shit if she knew my precinct was also coming here.

"There's an ambulance here right? I can't walk out of here and I shot him," I say as I nod my head at Felix. The whole time he's been silent but there's a minuscule grin on his face as he watches my frustration.

"I'll help you upstairs," one of the male officers says as he reaches for me. He pulls me to stand before placing an arm around my waist as he helps me up the stairs and outside of the house. As soon as the EMS personnel see me they come straight over with a stretcher and load me onto it, they do the same with Felix as well. Georgia watches the two of us as we're wheeled away by the stretchers towards the ambulance, a self-satisfied expression on her face at the thought she'll be able to disappear from everything.

I notice cars driving towards us and quickly recognize my precinct's number on the hood. The first car quickly parks and out jumps Nash alongside Felix, the two rushing to the scene. Nash quickly looks around for me and I lift my handcuffed hands to wave to get his attention. The relief is on his face for just a moment before cold fury is present on his face when he sees my handcuffed hands.

"Why the fuck is she in handcuffs?" he asks the officers.

"That's the criminal Georgia  Hamilton that we were instructed to arrest," the female officer explains to him. "She pretended to be the officer that came here to arrest the criminals, I can't believe she tried to frame such an old woman," she continues as she points at Georgia whose eyes widen at finally being caught.

"The person you just arrested is the very police officer that dragged herself here to personally arrest these two, we sent very clear descriptions on who you were to arrest but instead ignored it and proceeded to follow your own bias," Jason says in anger as he takes over and Nash walks over to Georgia and places handcuffs on her. "Your Chief will be hearing about this, give me the keys." I watch in satisfaction as they're all chastised in public for their shit work. One of the male officers hands him the keys and he walks over to where I'm currently being hooked up to a blood pressure monitor.

"I think this is the most interesting arrest I've been a part of," I comment as Jason uncuffs me.

"I'm going to make sure they get suspended without pay, fuck, how dare they try to arrest one of my own," I hear him mutter. "You're going straight to the hospital and I don't even want you thinking about work until the day they let you go home."

"Yes Chief, I'll make sure I don't cause you any trouble" I answer with a teasing smile.

"Somehow I don't believe you," he says with a sigh before his face softens. "I'm just glad you're alright though I know someone else has been anxious to see you." He turns his head and I look to see Nash waiting for the two of us to finish talking.

"I'll send him back to you all in a minute," I tell him and he nods before stepping away and Nash quickly replacing him.

"Hey beautiful," he says, voice lowered so no one hears him. His hand cups my cheek and I lean into it as I smile at him.

"Hey yourself," I reply. "I know you want to talk but you have to finish your work here first."

"I know, I'll come to the hospital as soon as I'm done," he tells me. The EMS finish setting me up and tells Nash that we're going.

"I'll try to stay up to wait for you," I say to him but he shakes his head.

"If you need to sleep, sleep, I can wait. I'll always wait for you," he says with a tender smile that honestly just makes my heart melt. "I'll see you later." His hand drops from my face but I quickly reach out and pull him closer to me, down to my level to kiss him. I honestly don't care that there are other colleagues here to see this, I'm just happy that I'm still here and able to be with my most important person.

A/N Hello everyone!! It's been some time since I've updated but we finally have a new chapter!! The chapter came out a bit longer than expected but I'm happy with how I've wrapped things up. Can we just take a minute to applaud how much of a badass Natalia is? I had to change things up a bit and with Natalia's personality, she was going to try to save herself before waiting for someone to save her. And of course I had to add some drama at the end because why not? At this point the Convict series is built on drama. Anyways, be sure to leave your thoughts of the chapter in the comments! And also thank you all, current and new readers for 60k views!! I hope you all continue to love the story and series ^^
