➽Epilogue II - A Love Like Theirs
The Chauhan household had been quite happy these days, everything was turning around for them and with the little kids in the house it seemed like the sun had started shining on them after all.
Revati and Adhyan had gone to a charity event, while Erisha was meeting up with Yami for a case, so the kids were with Vritika and Dishank, who for a change had no work today.
Vritika had been playing with the kids in her room for a while now while Dishank, who was oh so much in love with his wife, stared at her with a goofy look on his face.
"Dish, you know I could really use your help, right?" Vritika said, trying to do something that all the kids would like but alas whatever she said left two excited and one not so much.
"Yeah, I know." Dishank said nonchalantly as he continued to stare at the scene in front of him for a few seconds before picking Reyansh up.
As the attention turned to Dishank, Vritika swiftly left the room to bring their food.
"Dish cha...funny" Reyansh giggled as Dishank's beard tickled him. The eldest of the next generation was three but guess what his favourite hadn't changed at all. To him anything Dish Cha did is fun and if the same thing is done by someone else, it is boring. We could say he was Dishank ka chamcha.
While Reyansh was busy with his chachu, Adviti turned her attention to her Vri chachi's make up kit laying on the dressing table.
Adviti looked at the colourful make up products with fascination and then remembered her chachi and mumma puts it on face to look pretty.
A idea popped inside her little brain and she carefully picked up one of the eyeshadow pallettes and rushed towards Dishank and tugged at his pants to gain his attention.
"Cha, Adu make cha pretty!!" she giggled showing him the pallatte. Dishank then put Reyansh down and sits in front of Adviti. He knows he should stop Adviti from using her wife's expensive make up products but who was he to deny Adviti Chauhan's puppy eyes?
Soon Adviti started her work on his face, finding what his didi was doing interesting, Trishan joined too. And with the two enjoying painting Dishank's face, how could Reyansh stay behind? If Dish cha becomes pretty, Rey has to become pretty too. So instead of applying things on Dishank's face, he started applying on his.
"Adu, Rey pretty too.." he said showing his sister the drawing he made on his cheeks with the pink lipstick.
"My turn!!" Trishan said and asked Dishank to draw on his face. And soon all the four of them had various different designs on their faces.
That's the scene Vritika entered the room to. "Dishank Chauhan, ye sab kya hai?"
"Inki shakal dekh, could you deny them? Also tune na bola, keep all of them involved! See everyone is happy"
"Happy...happy Tishu!" Trishan squealed clapping his hands.
Vritika sighed knowing there was nothing Dishank or her would not do to keep the tiny three happy, ruining the make up was a no big deal.
"Dish, I don't think hum parents material hai. We can't even be thoda stern with them like Reva Bhabhi or Erisha or Adi bhai. Ek look pe hum candle ke tarah pighal jaate." Vritika laughed, picking up Adviti to wash her face, while Dishank nodded carrying Trishan and Reyansh following behind.
Soon after great difficulty, the two fed the three kids and put them for a nap. Dishank stayed in the room with the kids, doing some work in his laptop while Vritika left for Nalini's therapy.
The bond between Nalini and Vritika changed quite a lot after the revelation. Nalini started therapy on Dishank's insistence and over the period of time realized that how bitter she had become.
Slowly, she started taking steps to amend the relationship with her daughter in law. Asking forgiveness was not easy but she apologized, even asking Vritika to join her in her therapy sessions.
To think, the therapy sessions have been fruitful, the mother in law and daughter in law duo are much closer now. Obviously not like a mother and daughter from a film but cordial and respectful. We could say something we share with our office seniors.
"Aaj thaki hui lag rahi ho?" Nalini asked once Vritika joined her in the car.
"Humare ghar ke teen shaitan hai na! They are tiring." Vritika replied.
Nalini laughed knowing how troublesome the toodler stage is. After all, if Adhyan, Dishank, Samay and Erisha were stressful then Reyansh, Adviti and Trishan were a lot more tiring with their Samay uncle to help them with their antics.
"Not to pry, but when are you and Dishu planning a kid?" Nalini asked and Vritika shrugged not knowing what to answer. If you asked them two years back, the answer would have been a yes but now many things had changed for them.
For one, Vritika couldn't get pregnant, the doctors had deemed her uterus too weak to carry a child for the whole term and Dishank didn't want to risk his wife's life. And the second reason, after the whole revelation, the couple thought parenting is about making too many difficult choices and they might not be ready yet. Also the major reason would be Dishank not wanting to continue Prakash Sahu's bloodline.
The couple had thought of adoption and surrogacy. Dishank was leaning towards adoption seeing how well Adviti became family but Vritika was not sure if the family would accept the first child to be adopted as in Revati and Adhyan's case they already had Reyansh before adopting.
"We are thinking either adopting or not having kids at all!" Vritika answered instead.
"That's a good idea! Bohut bache hai jinhe Maa baap ki jarurat hai and I am sure you two will make fantastic parents." Nalini answered with smile.
"Aapko problem nai adoption se? Like aapko aap ka khoon nai chahiye? All the vanshaj and everything?" Vritika asked surprised, her biggest apprehension regarding this issue was how will her mother in law react.
Nalini chuckled at that and smiled warmly, "Not at all. I haven't told this to Dishank or any one of you all to be fair, but let me tell you, we were actually looking to adopt a kid before Dishank came along."
Vritika's eyes widened comically as she exclaimed, "Sacchi!?" Nalini nodded and placed her hand on Vritika's as she said, "Haa, we had even selected the orphanage to adopt from, Asha."
Vritika smiled feeling grateful that Nalini shared this with her. She decided to talk about it with Dishank and go visit the orphanage too if possible.
"I think you'd be a great maa." Nalini said as her hand lightly brushed Vritika's face causing Vritika to beam with happiness.
As decided, Vritika told Dishank that she needed to talk to him about something important when he came home.
Dishank entered their room worried, "Kya hua?" Vritika smiled and asked him to sit beside her.
"You know, I realised today that parents are not always stern." Vritika said causing Dishank to get confused.
"Aaj I said right that I don't think we're parents material because we can't be stern with the kids? I don't think that's true. A parent's job is love." Vritika explained.
"What do you mean?" Dishank asked, he was not sure if she meant what he thinks. "I talked with maa today. She said I'd make a great mom. We can adopt Dish." Vritika said and stared at him hopefully.
"I want to step into parenthood, Dish." Vritika stated and held his hands.
Dishank's face spasmed as he took his hands out of Vritika's hold and placed them over his face, pulling a blanket over it.
"Dish." Vritika called out and tried to pull the blanket but Dishank had gripped it pretty tight. "Dish, suno." Vritika tried again and this time she heard a whimper.
Vritika laid on the blanket that wrapped Dishank and knocked, "Are you crying Dish?" Dishank pulled the blanket down, his face coming into view, his eyes looking glassy due to the tears that pooled up.
Dishank immediately hugged Vritika and kissed her forehead. "Are you sure about this?" He asked and she nodded a yes causing Dishank to squeal and he peppered kisses all over her face making Vritika giggle delightfully.
Samay who heard them, smirked and knocked on the door loudly. "Aaye haaye guys."
Dishank rolled his eyes and got up, mumbling curses as he unlocked the door, "Samay yaar. Kuch bhi karta hai tu."
"Kar main raha tha ya aap?" Samay teased, wiggling his brows. Dishank smacked him on his head.
"Chup raha kar. Tere liye ek news hai." Dishank said and beckoned Samay inside. "We are planning to adopt." Vritika informed with a huge smile and god knows Samay Chauhan's scream in that one moment put all the teenage fangirls to shame.
One by one everyone got to know of it. The Chauhan house was overjoyed with their decision as the kids were told that they'd get a new brother or sister now.
During all this, Nalini glanced at Vritika and they both shared a knowing smile as Vritika silently thanked her.
To say Samay was overjoyed was an understatement. In his words, "Seekho kuch, I was the first person they informed. First toh chhodo, they informed me."
Just like that, the day passed. Vritika and Dishank soon visited the Asha orphanage and they absolutely adored a baby boy there and therefore soon, they were done with all the formalities and welcomed him home.
Dishank and Vritika Chauhan were now parents to a very beautiful and healthy baby boy, Dhairya Chauhan.
